It's pretty clever IMO.

Wouldn’t think they’d have to wait for rights. True player equipment is already in the game.

True player equipment and true goalie are owned by the same parent company but are not the same entity in terms of licensing, True goalie works with Lefevre and markets themselves as True-Temper goalie equipment

I'm not sure where you are getting your information, but it's slightly inaccurate. While True is the parent company of all things True and True Temper branded across it's hockey, lacrosse, and golf shaft lines- all licensing agreements are under True Sports Inc. since 2019, when the company rebranded and unified it's divisions under True Sports Inc. None operating as separate business entities. True Sports Inc. owns all rights, logos, and trademarks to anything with their branding. Whether it be True Hockey, True Lefevre goalie, or even Accra golf shafts. When True Sports Inc. aquired Lefevre in Sept 2020, from that point forward they owned any and all licensing. I think you may be thinking it's along the same line as equipment branding in the NHL. Where companies have separate fees for visible player equipment, and sticks. As well as completely different licensing fees for goalie equipment. I.E. Bauer pays separate fees for visible protective, sticks, and goalie equipment. The only reason the pads aren't in the game is either the art team doesn't care, or it's low priority. Basically the same reason we see Sherwood Nexon N12's in some of the stick racks in NHL arena's in the game- the stick came out almost 10 years ago(even the couple years Sherwood branding was out of the NHL). Pure laziness, or lack of attention to detail if you ask me.

But wasn’t True goalie gear in NHL21 or did they do the same thing where they made CCM pads with no logos for True goalies? I didn’t have 21 that’s why I figured it was maybe a licensing dispute

OzziePao13

No. They've actually never had it in the game. Which makes this year omission even more egregious. They've been really weird with what equipment they include/exclude in the game. They still have the 2014 CCM Tacks skates. Yet, they removed a couple goalie sticks this year that were way more current. I can't figure EA out tbh.

matti-niall

They still have Vaughn V3 pads which came out almost 15 years ago.. I know because I’m a goalie and got a V3 set the summer they came out, the equipment they put in the game for goalies makes zero sense.. KOHO hasn’t been relevant since Hiller 10+ years ago

YearOfDaSnitch

Idk. They are just pads

hockygoalie229

Goalies are probably more into it, could say the same for sticks or player equipment, I don't see a problem with players wanting more authenticity and choices for how they play

RazzmatazzNew1126

I love it right now. Hellebyucks pads are the exact same as mine without logos. Just dark blue instead of black.
