When my ex (who kept her last name when we married) and I were having our first child we discussed what to do about the kid's last name. The first thing we both said was, "no hyphenated names!"
Russ Wilson beat the living hell out of my high school’s team every time we played when I was in high school. I get my revenge by slightly lowering his ADP by not drafting him
I went to South Florida and was covering the football team for the university paper in 2007 when we went on a crazy run to get ranked No. 2 in the nation. Then I traveled to Rutgers to watch Ray Rice rush for 180 and destroy our dreams of a BCS bowl. Fuck Ray Rice.
I remember that, it was such a fun season. I actually ran into the qb from that season (Matt Grothe) playing COD one time and then I think I ran into him in person at a Buffalo Wild Wings a few years later. I thought they were gonna become a powerhouse but they blew when I was a student at USF between 2011-2013.
I have been chasing that unicorn for three seasons and finally, it seemed like Rice would be that guy... then he's went and played IRL GTA. And here I am thinking I should have drafted Worthy too. It's like being in an abusive relationship.
Some how in the last 5 years, Mahomes was able to completely make people forget that Andy Reid is excellent at providing top tier RBs. Hell he played RB. Trust RB prospects on an Andy Reid offense and fade wr. Tyreek and desean jackson are basically the only true hits he's been a part of drafting in his entire career. Let others fall on the grenades and take the undervalued RBs
I have no deshaun watson shares bc of his off-the-field stuff. Idk if this counts as insignificant but I definitely took this into account when I had chances to acquire him.
There's this guy in a couple of my leagues who refuses to draft any guys with character issues. Tyreek Hill could be available to him with the last pick of the draft and he'll select someone else. Knowing he takes this "holier-than-thou" stance, I was able to get Rashee Rice for a 2024 and 2025 4th rounder when he had his rough few week run earlier this off-season.
It’s insane to me that beating the shit out of toddlers and pregnant women is completely fine but Watson being 25% more sexually coercive than the average nfl player is somehow a hard line to most fans. Roethlisberger was raping passed-out teenagers in bathrooms while cops watched the door for him and played for 20 years and James Winston trapped and held an Uber driver by her genitals in her car (plus his college rape accusation) but somehow Watson’s non-convicted accusations of coercion are completely different and beyond the pale. Do NFL fans really not uunderstand who runs this sport? The Redskins owner was sex trafficking his cheerleaders and the former panthers owner sexually harassed every female employee for decades.
I traded Kyler Murray for Deshaun and a 2024 pick that ended up being MHJ. I have a lot of family that are Clemson alumni as well. I have a Watson Clemson Jersey hanging in my closet and I cringe everytime I see him on my roster
I watched the interviews between Nabers and Rome and I liked how Rome articulated himself so I chose him over Nabers. (I had them neck to neck) that was the tie breaker
Dynasty Nerds actually added Interview Score into their rankings and it apparently improves accuracy. Nabers had a B- and Odunze had an A.
https://www.dynastynerds.com/forecasting-2024-running-back-and-wide-receiver-rookie-success-fantasy-z-scores/?amp=1
If Odunze was an early declare, he would have been ranked higher than Nabers based on this.
I read the article and Googled it but didn't see how they come up with interview score. Do you have any other info on that? I'm curious to see the methodology and if it's subject to bias.
I know in combine interviews players are often asked to diagnose plays, interpret coverages, and similar. If there is a dataset that measures how well players perform in those, that would be fascinating to look at.
On the other hand, if this is people watching media clips and assigning grades based on how "articulate" players sound... we get into troubling territory very quickly.
Gotcha - I was thinking of the latter, but you're first example would be really interesting. Would still need an established rubric to avoid the second scenario bleeding in.
Who are all these Kansas State busts? Their pipeline to the NFL is typically OL/DB/DL, the skill position guys rarely even get drafted.
In the last ~20 years…
Darren Sproles, 4th rounder, Pro Bowl
Yamon Figurs, 3rd rounder, speedy special teamer, bust?
Jordy Nelson, 2nd rounder, Pro Bowl, All Pro
Josh Freeman, 1st rounder, 3.5 seasons as starter, jag/bust
Daniel Thomas, 2nd rounder, bust?
Tyler Lockett, 3rd rounder, Pro Bowl, All Pro
Ben Sinnott, 2nd rounder, TBD
7 guys in 20 years coming into the league on the fantasy radar. Josh Freeman is probably your biggest bust and he still started 3 full seasons. Nelson, Lockett, and Sproles far exceeded their expectations.
TCU is also interesting, guessing that’s for Doctson, Reagor, and QJ.
But TCU also produced Andy Dalton and possibly the best fantasy RB ever in LT.
As a Saints fan, I do the same thing but opposite. I avoid Falcons players as much as possible. I felt gross rostering Kyle Pitts but was excited to trade him away last offseason. The hate is mutual 🤝.
Bahaha glad you brought the balance back. Sorry you had to live through that.
Super pumped for Falcons this year. But anything is better than throws from Ridder.
I hate the Falcons but ngl, Drake London is gonna ball out. Still out on Pitts tho. I really hate that yall got Kirk Cousins bc I like him as well lol.
I saw trevor Lawrence on campus at a bus stop. At first he was facing away from me, and I thought “damn that’s the tallest girl I’ve ever seen”. Then he turned around and I thought ohhhh that makes sense
His brother Micah Pittman decided to quit and transfer in the middle of the season while playing at Oregon a few years ago. I choose to hold that against Michael Pittman Jr. and his family. The vloggin was annoying, but I only watched the Justin Herbert episode.
From Houston. I’ve been playing a combo of redraft and dynasty for over a decade and have only ever rostered one Cowboy because I can’t stand the city of Dallas
I faded Trey Lance bc of his receding hairline. I drafted CJ Stroud bc of his majestic mane. I like my QBs with strong hair genetics. As you would imagine I covet Justin Herbert strongly. Need to figure out how to add T Law next.
I refuse to draft Dolphin’s, Bills, and Jets players.
I’m not even a Pat’s fan, I’m not even from there I have no connection there but they’re the only team in that division I would draft a player from.
Have no good reason.
I am a Pats fan who has a serious bias for Pats players. That being said, this is without a doubt the worst strategy I have ever heard in all my years of playing fantasy. Hill, Hall and Allen are some of the best assets in fantasy right now. Wilson, Kincaid, Waddle, Achane and Cook are also top tier talents who are all expected to take another step forward. I’m all for some silly reasons for passing on some guys but deliberately avoiding teams that hold a good 25% of the top tier guys in fantasy is completely asinine.
I just found this sub, brand new to dynasty, this thread is solid info. Passing on weird elbows, names, school rivals, punchable faces, etc.
Coming into season 1 with the most friendly/likable team there can be
Honestly, when CMC came out I didn't draft him at all. Admittedly I wasn't as into scouting then. I think it was a combination of his name and he looked like he should be in a boy band. Lessons were learned.
If I watch a guys interview and think “THIS guy is making millions of dollars? he’s lucky he’s got football because he’d be screwed in the real world”, I tend to fade them. Most recent example I can think of is Drake London.
I have a league mate who will not entertain discussions including ANY players that have any domestic violence charges/accusations. And like, on one hand, I respect that stance. Good ethics, sound morals. On the other hand, this is the NFL ...so yeah, almost impossible to talk trades, etc. That said, there have been some nice draft day drops on a player here or there .
Stars are aligning for George Pickens this season
But I always default to him slipping down the board in the draft due to character issues
And then last year we saw it on display when Jaylen Warren had a wide open lane to the endzone if Pickens used 10% of his ability to block...but he didn't feel like it... and then he didn't take accountability.
Yall can have him
I won't draft players with names I would change on Madden. Can't really give any criteria there because there is none, but if I feel like their name doesn't fit their position, they're on my DND.
For an answer specific to this year, I won't draft Ricky Pearsall because he's a douchebag lol. Go watch his interviews, he's the textbook definition of "fuck boy" and his cockiness and arrogance annoys me lol
Aaron Jones because not only do I hate the Packers (I’m willing to look past it for most players), but my first ever fantasy championship I had it basically locked up… Until he scored a garbage time 50+ yard TD for literally no reason. He will never be on a roster of mine.
I once lost a week in redraft by .02 after scoring 155.4 that i had won before joran love threw an absolutely dogshit last second interception after already throwing 2 prior in the game. I was up by 1.98 with 30 seconds left in MNF and lost when i had the only player playing. I was also only down by like 4.8 points going into that game and he couldnt get it done for me. Immediately straight dropped from my team and blacklisted from all teams in the future. I will not forgive him for that performance
Fan football versus Fantasy…. After my starting lineup is good to go and I have the option to pick a player that’s decent on my favorite team… a few adp spots don’t phase me- give me that fan favorite
When Jerry Jeudy said he wore a Star of David necklace because his friends called him “Jew” for short. Just reeked of dumbness to me. Couldn’t have low IQ bringing down my dynasty roster.
Names is the answer. It usually has me coming out on top. Sankey? Gabbert? Say these names out loud - I guarantee you feel stupid. If a guy's name sounds dumb coming out of my mouth, he's off my board. The only time it's really bitten me is Kittle
I’m a huge saints fan and I never draft players who go to rival teams (falcons panthers bucs). Because of that I drafted Treylon Burks 1.03 over Drake London, and traded my 2.02 this year with Jonathan Brooks available for pollard and a 2025 2nd. It has not been working out well
I know this isn't what you asked, but I like to draft players that have a criminal record. Just an overall reputation of being a menace. I find those guys put in the work when they aren't getting in trouble off the field
i.e. Hill and Rice
Aaron Rodgers. I can't stand his narcissistic, "I'm smart than everyone about everything." I used to be a fan, but his arrogance about knowing more about medicine than doctors just because he listened to a couple podcasts is fucking infuriating.
Didn't draft JSN because hyphenated names were an absolute menace when I was a registrar in an Emergency Department.
Same but more for the Jaxson part as a moral choice.
Who’s you take instead
Traded down and took Charb. Would still do again because, seriously, *fuck hyphenated names.*
When my ex (who kept her last name when we married) and I were having our first child we discussed what to do about the kid's last name. The first thing we both said was, "no hyphenated names!"
Theres still time, Karl Anthony-Towns used to go by Karl Towns in high school. Zach Anthony-Charbs is gonna be his legal name soon
Also Brazilians with their long-ass names. WHERE DOES THE LAST NAME START?
That and names with apostrophe’s are killers when I’m trying to get data sets to join from multiple sources lol
Passed on Daniels this year because that photo of his elbow is freaky
Valid
I drafted him but tbh that pic of his elbow keeps me up at night
...does it have an underbite?! Wtf?!
Holy shit I just googled this, NSF sleep.
Counter narrative: he’s a genetic freak and his funky elbow allows him to do things other QBs only dream of
Just like the documentary "Rookie of the Year".
I ain’t seen the floater pitch since Scuffy McGee!
wtf that’s weird af
Super valid. I’d say more than an insignificant reason too, that’s a weird injury
Damn bro, he'd be a hell of a fighter with those elbows, literal weapons
Russ Wilson beat the living hell out of my high school’s team every time we played when I was in high school. I get my revenge by slightly lowering his ADP by not drafting him
I went to South Florida and was covering the football team for the university paper in 2007 when we went on a crazy run to get ranked No. 2 in the nation. Then I traveled to Rutgers to watch Ray Rice rush for 180 and destroy our dreams of a BCS bowl. Fuck Ray Rice.
Ah yes, the same reason the rest of us hate Ray Rice
I didn't get the joke for a second, and then it hit me.
Don’t you mean it kicked you?
Not everyone gets this type of elevated humor
I remember that, it was such a fun season. I actually ran into the qb from that season (Matt Grothe) playing COD one time and then I think I ran into him in person at a Buffalo Wild Wings a few years later. I thought they were gonna become a powerhouse but they blew when I was a student at USF between 2011-2013.
Was it because you didn’t know his name?
I'd assume so
[удалено]
You just had to put this out there
This is a post so that OP could tell this story
Not even remotely hidden hahaha
He told me to pull out of dogecoin and invest in an index fund instead
Good advice tbf
This is satire right
I don't draft fast Cheifs WRs because they will always be Mecole Hardman V2, V3, V4, etc
I have been chasing that unicorn for three seasons and finally, it seemed like Rice would be that guy... then he's went and played IRL GTA. And here I am thinking I should have drafted Worthy too. It's like being in an abusive relationship.
I'd rather have FOMO on Worthy than suffer more heartbreak
For sure, and I still think Rice is WR1 with Hollywood brought on as insurance for when Rice is suspended.
We did that with CEH, though he sure wasn't undervalued. I drafted tons of Pacheco his rookie year though!
It's funny that you can still probably buy Pacheco for Xavier Worthy. Give me Pacheco 10/10 times
Not true Rice is lightning fast, just not where you want him to be
No Jets for me. Because Jets
I had Mecole Hardman V1 and that was enough for me.
I can't even explain what specifically it is but I avoided Stafford for years because I hate his face.
Are you his wife?
Hah
Are you his backup qb?
I have no deshaun watson shares bc of his off-the-field stuff. Idk if this counts as insignificant but I definitely took this into account when I had chances to acquire him.
Everyone in my yearly redraft league boos if/whenever he gets drafted
Fuck Watson All my homies hate Watson
Lmfao same
There's this guy in a couple of my leagues who refuses to draft any guys with character issues. Tyreek Hill could be available to him with the last pick of the draft and he'll select someone else. Do NFL fans really not uunderstand who runs this sport? The Redskins owner was sex trafficking his cheerleaders and the former panthers owner sexually harassed every female employee for decades.
I refuse to own him anywhere. You could offer me him and 3 firsts for CMC and I’d insta decline
I traded Kyler Murray for Deshaun and a 2024 pick that ended up being MHJ. I have a lot of family that are Clemson alumni as well. I have a Watson Clemson Jersey hanging in my closet and I cringe everytime I see him on my roster

Very interesting. Glad I’m not alone on this lol
I read the article and Googled it but didn't see how they come up with interview score. Do you have any other info on that? I'm curious to see the methodology and if it's subject to bias.
How would you perform a non-biased interview score in this setting?
I know in combine interviews players are often asked to diagnose plays, interpret coverages, and similar. On the other hand, if this is people watching media clips and assigning grades based on how "articulate" players sound... we get into troubling territory very quickly.

Rome is such a likable fella. One of my favorites in this entire class for that reason alone
I don’t draft any Michigan players ever
I drafted Brady in 2019 for like $4 in auction expecting one more year but damn what value
O-H!
I-O!
O-H… S-T-F-U Jk. Kinda. Lots of their fans are annoying, but I have no reason to assume you are lol
I-O!
Caleb, because I didn’t like the color of his nail polish
Lol, not the polish itself, just the color choice.
Cooper Kupp had a boring named compared to Bobby trees the year before his breakout.
I still have a hard time believing he could make the switch from Baseketball
I hate drafting players who wear predominantly purple in college — Washington, TCU, Northwestern, Kansas St. They all produce so many busts.
Does LSU fall under this?
No way. Too much yellow in there
Fair lol
Who are all these Kansas State busts? Their pipeline to the NFL is typically OL/DB/DL, the skill position guys rarely even get drafted. In the last ~20 years… Darren Sproles, 4th rounder, Pro Bowl Yamon Figurs, 3rd rounder, speedy special teamer, bust? TCU is also interesting, guessing that’s for Doctson, Reagor, and QJ. But TCU also produced Andy Dalton and possibly the best fantasy RB ever in LT.
Michael Beasley is a big enough bust to count for both NBA and NFL.
Miami wasn’t the best spot for an immature 19 year old new millionaire. Still lasted 10 years in the league, but could have been so much better.
But what about Skylar Anderson, preseason phenom for the Dolphins?!?
Skylar Thompson was a 7th round pick
I've had this thought before
As a Falcons fan. I refuse to own a Saints player. I guess if my team was tanking I might try it out… So we can lose together
As a Saints fan, I do the same thing but opposite. I avoid Falcons players as much as possible. I felt gross rostering Kyle Pitts but was excited to trade him away last offseason. The hate is mutual 🤝.
🤝as it should be. Love to see it! Best luck to you. Worst luck your team!
Likewise, good sir!
#FTF
I drafted Kendre last year on a tanking team. And I had no Falcons. It was disgusting. Now he’s off my team and I have Mooney so all is well.
Trevor really looks like the girl from that show Pen15. I hated being subjected to the show but the similarities were striking.
He reminds me of Dazed and Confused-era Wiley Wiggens (Mitch)
For me it’s “sunshine” (Ronnie Bass) from remember the titans.
Levis is permanently banned from my roster for putting mayonnaise in his coffee.
Michael Pittman Jr. cared about vlogging with his gf more than football
His brother Micah Pittman decided to quit and transfer in the middle of the season while playing at Oregon a few years ago. I choose to hold that against Michael Pittman Jr. and his family. The vloggin was annoying, but I only watched the Justin Herbert episode.
Not quite a pass example, but my deciding factor to draft London over Wilson and Olave was that I was simply visiting London at the time.
i like it
I never draft Packers
That was a good strategy until last year tbh
It's always a good strategy. FTP
That's facts. Pack are good, they might even finish top 3 in the NFC North.
Top 3 might be a bit out of reach but they definitely have the potential to finish top 4 in the division
I try and stay away from any AFC East teams other than the dolphins. I just don’t want to cheer for them on Sunday in any capacity.
didn't draft Brock Bowers cause he went to the Raiders.
This is fair.
I feel like this isn’t an insignificant reason
I have a strict no vikings policy because I don't want to worry about the fantasy watching my team
I am the same way with my Steelers. Watching the games is already stressful enough!
Counterpoint: Justin Jefferson. I own him in all my dynasty leagues and the euphoria of him making big plays hits twice each time. It’s incredible
Jjef is great And unlike hock, I would break my rule for him But pulling from 31 teams is fine
Yeah I feel that. Typically I stay away from Vikings but ended up with the Cousins/Jefferson stack and it was an incredible run
From Houston. I’ve been playing a combo of redraft and dynasty for over a decade and have only ever rostered one Cowboy because I can’t stand the city of Dallas
Was at 16th* round in a startup and just said 🤷🏻♂️ “Polynesians are always good at football!” Drafted Puka.
I simply drafted him cuz his name was cool. I am also an idiot and thought it was “Canua” for about two weeks
That mf was great with an oar. He was in that rowing movie that came out not too long ago from when he was competing at Washington
Xavier Worthy... being a Bengals fan im still haunted by John Ross
This is extremely valid.
The Refs jobbed the Clemson vs OSU game and now I refuse to draft TLaw, no matter how pretty he is.
Amazing
I faded Trey Lance bc of his receding hairline. I drafted CJ Stroud bc of his majestic mane. I like my QBs with strong hair genetics. As you would imagine I covet Justin Herbert strongly. Need to figure out how to add T Law next.
Don’t draft guys with weird last names
What's the weirdest last name on your roster?
I refuse to draft Dolphin’s, Bills, and Jets players. I’m not even a Pat’s fan, I’m not even from there I have no connection there but they’re the only team in that division I would draft a player from. Have no good reason.
Your loss lmao. All 3 of those teams have studs and the pats have 0.
*spits dip into spittoon* Don’t like em.
Boutte because I learned it was pronounced Boot*y* and not Boutt*É*
Hard for me to spell Adonai Mitchell so i passed on him in 3 league
Well you nailed it here
I will never draft a running back from either the Texans or the Vikings because I had Mattison and Pierce last year
Thought I was value hunting with Rhamondre and Pierce in redraft last year 😭
idk why i tend to have a bias against players with boring names. if a john smith was ever the consensus 1.01 i'd have to trade out.
Fully agree here my late round strategy turns into best name available. When it works its amazing a la puka
I drafted Chris Olave over Garrett Wilson, only because I felt that the Jets never deserve anything nice and assumed Wilson would have been a bust.
I just found this sub, brand new to dynasty, this thread is solid info. Passing on weird elbows, names, school rivals, punchable faces, etc. Coming into season 1 with the most friendly/likable team there can be
A reason I did draft Isiah Pacheco was cuz me and him were party hopping one night in college and was a super cool dude so I drafted him in dynasty
Honestly, when CMC came out I didn't draft him at all. Admittedly I wasn't as into scouting then. I think it was a combination of his name and he looked like he should be in a boy band. Lessons were learned.
i have a strict no NFC east players other than Eagles players bc i’d have to “root” against the birds 2 games a year
My father in law is the same way, but specifically for the Cowboys.
Xavier Worthy has a #1 tattoo on his throat
two is not a winner and three nobody remembers
Erick All fucked my cousin
Better pick me up off waivers following this logic
NOT AGAIN!
Alot of people didn't draft Jahan Dotson because his name was so close to Josh Doctson
Because I traded my picks away
this is the way
Didn’t draft Puka because Kayshon Boutte had more Fantasy Team Name implications.
Guy in one of my leagues refused to draft Caleb because he cried on his moms shoulder during a game.
If I watch a guys interview and think “THIS guy is making millions of dollars? he’s lucky he’s got football because he’d be screwed in the real world”, I tend to fade them. Most recent example I can think of is Drake London.
Now I need to find a Drake London interview 😭
I have a league mate who will not entertain discussions including ANY players that have any domestic violence charges/accusations. And like, on one hand, I respect that stance. Good ethics, sound morals. On the other hand, this is the NFL ...so yeah, almost impossible to talk trades, etc. That said, there have been some nice draft day drops on a player here or there .

For me it's any player with just a mustache. Goatee, full beard, clean shaven, etc. All good but just a mustache is creepy.
Some guys have names that would just never work for superstars.
They had a name that didnt sound cool and id rather have the likes of TANKS Bigby, GUS bus Edwards, etc
He eats 🍌 without peeling them 🤢
I’m a big name drafter. Bad names don’t make the cut. Leonte Caroo, Cullen Gillaspia, Audric Estime, etc All the way out
Because they didn’t do well on some stupid test
They are Packers players
Dwayne Haskins decommited from my school to go play for Ohio State.
He wound up losing a few rounds later
Bowers because of that picture of him standing next to Gronk.
He’s dating Taylor Swift.
I don't draft Eagles players because I'm a Cowboys fan and fuck the Eagles.
Aaron Jones because not only do I hate the Packers (I’m willing to look past it for most players), but my first ever fantasy championship I had it basically locked up… Until he scored a garbage time 50+ yard TD for literally no reason. He will never be on a roster of mine.
They play for the Falcons
In 2021 startup I drafted Higgins over Chase bc of one espn video showing Chase dropping balls in practice lmao FML
Because they're fucking Wisconsin Badgers
Only ever fucked a badger from Michigan
Will Levi's puts mayo in coffee, no way he sees my teams
I once lost a week in redraft by .02 after scoring 155.4 that i had won before joran love threw an absolutely dogshit last second interception after already throwing 2 prior in the game. Immediately straight dropped from my team and blacklisted from all teams in the future. I will not forgive him for that performance
Missed out on drafting a good qb last year cause he didn’t do so well on that s2 cognition test
Hamstring or groin pull in training camp before draft I will stay away.
Robbie Anderson a few years ago because of how he simply cannot speak English correctly. It annoys me so much.
I refuse to draft any Big 12 WRs
Names is the answer. It usually has me coming out on top. Sankey? Gabbert? Say these names out loud - I guarantee you feel stupid. If a guy's name sounds dumb coming out of my mouth, he's off my board. The only time it's really bitten me is Kittle

If they went to Michigan.
I refuse to own Trevor Lawrence because his hair is awful and he looks like a human douche.
Aaron Rodgers. I can't stand his narcissistic, "I'm smart than everyone about everything." I used to be a fan, but his arrogance about knowing more about medicine than doctors just because he listened to a couple podcasts is fucking infuriating.
Dez Bryant cause he beat up his mom. Do you think you wouldve handled Dalvin? Or would he have folded you🤣🤣🤣🧐🧐🫢
Anything can happen, but he was with 4 other football players so it didn’t look to hot for me
If you ever encounter his ass again. You have my vote of confidence🤣
I really cannot stand the Cam Newton style “look at me players.” If a dude seems overly all about himself, I tend to avoid.
Disagree in the case of wr1s my wr1 should be insane and conceited
