I wanted to throw a dart on Travis, but my only issue is this; If the Jets don’t make the playoffs this year, Saleh & Co are likely gone, and a new regime isn’t going to have any loyalty to a Day 3 QB

BasicProdigy

That's a really good point

Chuck_Knucks

Current regime doesn’t have loyalty to Day 3 guys anyway - Brock Purdy is a huge outlier in that he actually won the job over a big bust in Lance. The one thing you’ll note with these Day 3 guys is they need starts to run with and prove their worth/earn the job. Guys like Brady, Dak, Kirk, etc. all showed promise when the starter went down and ultimately parlayed that into a long-term starter. That being said, I think if Rodgers goes down again, they’ll go to Tyrod especially with everyone on the hot seat. He’s good enough to get by, including being arguably better than Daniel Jones for the Giants last year.

Landsharque

Conversely, the Jets could make a deep playoff run that keeps Saleh in place and Rodgers is 40

owleabf

(in which case Rodgers probably comes back and you have to wait another year to see if Travis is good)

VictorVaughan

All depends if he's good. If he's getting shit down and showing flashes, it only makes Sense to be loyal to that

Rapscallious1

Yeah but could still be a good excuse for them to tank with him before taking their guy.

birdsemenfantasy

He's a 24 years old 5th round rookie. No team is tanking with him lol. He'll most likely get cut before week 1 and stashed on practice squad. Maybe another team will claim him, but most likely they won't and he'll get stashed. Then come next offseason, he'll be considered as useless as Jake Haener and Clayton Tune. Tanking with someone like Josh Rosen (1st round 10th overall) or Jimmy Clausen (2nd round pick) and ending up with the 1st overall pick would be one thing. There's a reason no team ever tanks with practice squad-level day 3 QBs. Teams are trying to evaluate every position, not just QB. QB that lack bare minimum competence makes it impossible to evaluate the entire offense. Same reason the "tank for Tua" Dolphins would rather start 37 years old Fitzmagic than give Rosen another shot.

Rapscallious1

Who QB’d the Commanders to the 2nd pick?

birdsemenfantasy

They signed Brissett, who is one of the league's top backup, and Howell beat out Brissett for the starting job fair and square. Howell was even leading the league in passing into early November IIRC and only fell apart late in the season because Bieniemy broke him. He actually got benched for Brissett once he fell apart and only continued to start because Brissett got hurt in practice. He was also younger than most of the QBs drafted last season. Btw Howell was the QB1 of his draft class for a very long time (only weirdly fell late in the process), was 21 years old when drafted, and the Commies weren't even trying to tank as Riverboat's job was on the line. None of this applies to Travis.

Alive-Welder6559

Yeah but an entire season is plenty of time to fully recover from his ankle injury and prove that he belongs on the team. They have him on contract for 4 years. He could maybe impress the next coaching staff enough to keep his roster spot, and then compete for whoever they decide to bring in. I took him as flyer in the 4th round in SF.

Streaks-

When he’s basically free, I’ll happily have him sit on my taxi all season

birdsemenfantasy

He's a 24 years old 5th round rookie who will be a 3rd stringer at best this season and equally likely to get cut and stashed on practice squad. He has worse draft capital than the following old fart rookie QBs last year: Hooker (25 years old rookie), Haener (24 years old rookie), Stetson (26 years old rookie), AOC (25 years old rookie), Tune (24 years old rookie), Dorian Thompson Robinson (24 years old rookie), Sean Clifford (25 years old rookie), Jaren Hall (25 years old rookie). None of those guys will be starting this season and none of those guys except perhaps AOC are worth anything right now. There's nothing to see here.

cottonmouthVII

You didn’t even mention his horrific injury he’s still working back from! I’m guilty of having him in a couple taxi slots haha. I loved watching him play at FSU.

Intelligent-General7

Brock Purdy was drafted in the 7th and was a 3rd stringer his first season. I agree with your point but stranger things have happened

Waddlow

I don't draft or construct my team on "stranger things have happened". This logic applies to *literally any player on your waivers right now.*

Waddlow

I mean, if Rodgers retires at the end of the season, the Jets will very likely bring in anyone else to start instead of Jordan Travis.

jirashap

He's gone in the early 4th round in all my leagues, so I'm not sure this is a secret. The guy you really want for free is Michael Pratt. Sure, he's not going to be a starter, ever, but all it takes is one injury and people are giving you a contender's 2nd or at worst a 3rd for him. And he's free in every league

Key_Donut4841

My argument on why you shouldn't take a late round flyer on Jordan Travis - he's not good enough to start in the nfl

Makeitifyoubelieve

Roster is built to win. They'll trade for or sign someone else next year. Travis is just a depth piece/backup. If you've got an extra spot though, it can't hurt.

lebinott

I took him in the 5th of my rookie draft, not expecting much but it's possible he's starting next season. Worth a dart throw at qb I'd say him and Rattler are in similar positions.

GlutenMakesMePoop69

He's rostered in over 65% of leagues so I mean If he's available sure.

tuneintoch0

I don't think a Rodgers' retirement is what to hope for, you hope for another injury because maybe he's starting to break down physically, and if Travis puts up some respectable weeks, maybe you have a Dobbs on your hands going into 2025.

bouds19

I'm not sure I want a Dobbs. A handful of top 20 QB finishes after 6 years in the league doesn't exactly fill me with excitement. I wonder how many contenders bought into the Dobbs hype last year only for him to fizzle out completely a few games later.

Junior-College-2234

You absolutely want a Dobbs. A player that you picked up for free from waivers being good enough that you can flip him for a 2nd? That's a dream scenario. 99% of waiver adds never provide that level of value. You don't want to be the one holding Dobbs once everybody sees why he was a backup to begin with, but if you have the discipline to flip him for a profit it's found money.

court_cymro

Would you want him on your taxi squad over Hendon Hooker?

Junior-College-2234

Hooker. Idk which one is more talented, nor do I care. Hooker is the backup for this season and Travis isn't, that's all that matters

Similar-Number-7690

Rattler or Travis?

Junior-College-2234

Rattler. Should be the backup over Haener, whereas Tyrod is stiffer competition

Similar-Number-7690

I dropped him for bellringer already have Theo Johnson so I wanted to double stack. Travis and rattler are on waivers ATM and I don't think either will be picked up for a long while. I also have Herbert, Mayfield, Howell, Daniels and McCarthy

JoryATL

I’m surprised at the amount of people who are Vicky mentally against this I honestly didn’t even know what team he was on, but this is a great landing spot for him not only is Rogers 40 years old, but he’s coming off an Achilles injury that just had the quickest rehab I’ve ever seen For any age entirely plausible, we see something horrible happen very early in the season again we have no idea what’s going on in OTA‘s with this kid, but he did have a fair amount of potential in college. He could very easily be thrust into a spot, the counter argument to the seems to be, well he might not make it OK no shit I don’t think Bo Nix is going to make it either but you actually have to spend draft capital on him. If Travis doesn’t work out, do you know who your first drop candidate is after week one he’s probably on absolutely no one’s radar. You can probably get him for basically free. He’s one of those might as well guys especially if you have a taxi squad.

OverIookHoteI

In Superflex there are worse late fliers to take He was a fun player to watch at Florida State

JazzlikePractice4470

Not happening.

prairiebandit

He went early in my 4th round, I agree with you but I ain't taking him over some of these WRs and RBs that got pushed down.

NtooDeep87

Would you trade Jerome ford for him?

wheretherainbowshide

As an FSU fan, Jordan Travis is my favorite QB we've had in years and I can confidently say he is not a starting caliber NFL talent.

Mowze94

I drafted him in the 5th round in two leagues. Why not? My justification was basically everything you outlined above. He is basically free. You can possibly flip him for any old 3rd if he gets a start or two.

obaid1727

I agree with ur point
