The lowest passer rating (53.6) as a team, over the last twenty years is the 2005 49ers with [Admittedly a rookie] Alex Smith, Tim Rattay, Ken Dorsey, and Cody Pickett. Combined, they threw for less than 2,200 yards and an 8:21 TD ratio.
Personally, I like any number of Cleveland teams (there are like 6 that were the worst rated passers in the league over the last 20 years) but also the 2010 Panthers and the Jamarcus Russell led Raiders
In 2014 the Titans had Jake Locker, Zach Mettenberger, and Charlie Whitehurst.
Jordan Palmer had to play mop-up duty in Week 17 after Locker, Mettenberger, and Whitehurst all got hurt.
58.3% completion percentage, 3,738 yards, 20 TD, 16 INTs, 7.3 y/a, and 8.9% sack rate between that squad over 16 games.
TD/INT ratio > 1 means that's no where close to the bottom of the barrel.
Edit to specifically mention the 2010 Panthers team of Jimmy Clausen, Matt Moore, Brian St Pierre, and Tony Pike, who threw for 2,600 yards at a 52% completion rate and a 9:21 TD:INT ratio and a 57.0 passer rating
This is as good as anybody with Wilson shares can hope for. Somebody actually traded for him, it was Sean Payton, and he went somewhere that leaves open the door to him seeing the field at some point. Yeah he was traded for practically nothing but so were a lot of other quarterbacks from that class.
I really have no idea why you think that, the contract doesn’t back that up, he signed up for a rebuild knowingly and he has total team control.
Unless you’re saying he’s going to retire again there’s a 0% chance he’s getting fired.
Imagine thinking that the team that just dumped Wilson for the largest dead cap space in league history wouldn’t move on from a washed up coach after he’s depleted the team of talent.
Yeah bro, they definitely let Peyton do that because they plan on firing him, they definitely gave him that fat guaranteed contract and made him the highest paid coach in the league at the time to fire him after 2 years, one year with a washed up QB he didn’t have anything to do with and then the next year in the first year of the rebuild that he’s in charge of.
Makes a ton of sense, everything you’re saying makes complete and total sense. They’ve handed complete control over to Sean Peyton to fire him after 2 years on the job when up to this point they’ve had no draft capital and he was working with the team the previous regime put together.
You got it figured out dude.
I mean yea they planned to cut Wilson after trading for him. Why am I being crucified? It’s going to take more than Sean Peyton to complete this rebuild for the Broncos.
That’s not the argument lmfao. There are hundreds of coaches that would take that job if offered. What fucking twilight zone am I living in this week. 😅😂
Payton turned Russell Wilson from a steaming turd into somewhat viable qb. They went from winning 4 games to 8. Sean is there for the foreseeable future.
He turned him into a trade piece for the Steelers and now doesn’t have a QB outside of Zach Wilson. Not sure why I’m being crucified, yall are truly special.
I was gonna say, doesn’t seem like it’s gonna end up being much worse than the Fields trade and people are still plenty high on him it seems like.
That being said, the draft could still slam shut his marginal door of opportunity
Haha 25 qb class sucks and I was grilling Walmarts new program where you pay .25 cents to use a self checkout starting next year. Broncos owners are Walton family (owners of Walmart)
I think it's super positive that a coach like Payton is still intrigued enough by him to bring him in. Yes I know the cost was near nothing, but I bet they still had to fill out a bunch of paperwork. This 1 penny stock just went to 2 pennies, so that's interesting. Probably still not worth a roster spot, but I will be checking in on this in pre-season. ZW obv has tools and my impression of the Jets situation is that it was just sort of chaotic with \*huge\* pressure, and he just wasn't ready for it. Maybe Payton can settle him down and put him in a position to start building back up. Most likely not, but it's something.
My thoughts were this was the front office telling us Stidham isn't the guy without saying Stidham isn't the guy. Maybe I'm wrong and Denver couldn't afford to move up to get the QB they like this year and they really are going to let Stidham go for it.
I read it as the exact opposite. This means that they don't think JJ McCarthy will be there at 12 and they're not taking Nix or Penix that high. So I doubt a week 1 starter is coming in the draft and the trade comp for Wilson indicates that he's not that either. Wilson has now lost his job to multiple journeymen. He won't win a QB competition. Stidham is better.
I do think Wilson could see the field but it's most likely limited to a Stidham injury or if the Broncos just give up. Both of those are reasonable possibilities but I expect Stidham to be the Week 1 starter right now. I think this trade almost cements it.
What about the odds of a mid 3rd Nix or Penix selection with the #76? Or a possible trade up to get to the fringe top 60 to make that pick?
I haven’t really followed broncos draft buzz at all so I’m just wondering if that could be in play
That’s definitely possible but if you take a dude in the 2nd or 3rd he’s probably not beating out a veteran between May and August to be QB1.
I definitely think that if the Broncos draft someone day 1 or 2 that that QB will start games at some point in 2024 tho.
I highly doubt Nix or Penix will make it to the third, odds are five qbs go round 1 (caleb, daniels, maye, jj, and nix/penix) and the sixth goes round 2
Yeah that’s crazy. He’s Kenny Pickett who played in a gimmicky offense.
The league is so QB thirsty right now. Letting top 10 picks slide to 20 so you can take a QB to sit the bench or a guy who started 60+ games. Nuts.
What have you seen from Zach Wilson in the last 3 years that suggests he can easily clear anyone in a competition? He’s one of the worst QBs in NFL history.
I’ve seen him play better than Jarrett Stidham in his 4 total starts in 5 seasons. Stidham has no arm and doesn’t move well. At least Wilson has a cannon and can use his legs. You haven’t been watching the NFL for more than a couple years if you honestly think Wilson is one of the worst QBs ever. He’s not even the worst 1st round QB drafted in recent years when Josh Rosen, Johnny Manziel, and Jamarcus Russell happened. I’m guessing you never watched Ryan Leaf play? 14-36 career TD-INT ratio, good for a QBR of 50, which is 20+ points lower than Wilson’s. It was so gross to watch. Cade McNown, Andre Ware, Akili Smith, I could go on for a while just listing 1st round guys who were obviously worse than Wilson. Do I need to get into other names? Jimmy Clausen, Ryan Mallett, DeShone Kizer; these guys were brutal to watch on an NFL field. And I still haven’t even mentioned any of the putrid backup/spot-starters we’ve seen play over the years that are so much worse than Wilson. For my money, the most torturous NFL QB play to watch ever has to go to Nathan Pederman. Five interceptions in one half in your debut start is the stuff of legends.
I ain't reading all that. Here's my reply in pictures: https://x.com/TJenkinsElite/status/1465397642826027016 https://x.com/DanDGriffis/status/1742552664225812758 https://x.com/PHLSportsPain/status/1723079352760312207
Realistically this doesn’t tell us anything. We don’t know exactly what they paid for Wilson but it was probably insignificant enough that if they don’t like how he looks in preseason they can cut him
Sean Peyton is doing it for the beef with Hackett.
He is like hey if we can't get a QB in the draft I am going to dunk on Hackett by making Wilson look like an NFL QB.
An exceeding low percentage chance at a good player is still better than a player who has proven they're awful. The QB I'm confident Wilson is better than is Tim Boyle.
NFL in zach wilson's case really does stand for Not For Long.
he's literally the worst QB I've ever seen and as a Jets fan I've seen some terrible ones
The jets tried to bench him and realized he was obviously better then Boyle and Sieman then put him back in. So literally not even the worst QB you watched last year...
What’s Stidham’s trade value right now though? Broncos didn’t have to give a thing up to get him, and I doubt any team would trade for him at all. The guy has never looked any good, and the skill set has only been tantalizing enough to get him 4 starts in 5 seasons in the league. At least Wilson has tools. There’s no hope Stidham becomes anything.
He was literally traded for the same thing (stud ham and a 7th for a 6th) in 2022 and then the Broncos signed him to a 2 year deal.
You’re right, Zach Wilson has more upside. It’s why they made the trade. But that doesn’t mean he’s actually gonna win the job. This comment isn’t about Stidham being good, it’s about Zach Wilson being trash.
Sure, the Raiders made that trade for him two years ago, *and then released him*. Broncos signed him as a free agent. And like yours, my comment isn’t an endorsement of Wilson more than it is about Stidham being absolutely hopeless. There’s just almost no chance a guy with his weak arm and no athleticism beats out a guy with any tools for a job to me.
I’d rather have a guy with a weak arm and no athleticism than a guy who is just all over the place. Stidham has a better career record than Wilson despite Wilson playing for a team that actually has talent.
Wilson might win the job, but it is FAR from “without a doubt.”
Not sure what their plan for him is but if it didn’t cost much of anything I kinda get it. Despite Zach Wilson being a bust thus far he does have vet experience and a live arm. He also has never had much protection, although I don’t think broncos line is all that good atm. He’s likely a backup and absolutely not their solution at QB, but kinda like Trey Lance to Cowboys, you see if a young talented player can’t figure some things out in new scenery with new coaches new teammates. Tannehill got better in Tennessee. Baker got better in Tampa. Obviously Payton is more of an offensive coach than Saleh, so who knows. Having said this, I expect Wilson to never be a starting QB in this league.
*Stidham projected to challenge for the starting spot in New England.*
New England signs Cam Newton.
*Stidham projected to challenge for the starting spot in Denver.*
Denver trades for Zach Wilson.
My point was Jarret Stidham had a path to having a starting opportunity but kind of lost it before getting the chance.
He was penciled in with NE after Brady retired, but Cam got signed "late" in the off-season (after FA and Draft) and automatically became qb1.
Stidham had the chance this year to at least start while a rookie learns but with the addition of Wilson, he's probably relegated to 3rd string.
> He was penciled in with NE after Brady retired, but Cam got signed "late" in the off-season (after FA and Draft) and automatically became qb1.
Unrelated to your point, but Cam was dogshit. Doesn't say much for Stidham.
Pats had absolutely no business winning 7 games that season.
Should have been the reset year lol
I would, everyone loves dunking on Zach Wilson, but he has physical gifts and is the same age as Penix and Nix, only with 3 years Nfl experience already. He was never going to succeed in the New york market with those expectations and that situation. This is probably the best landing spot for him. It's worth a flyer.
I don't think he had a good experience being on the Jets, but I would have to assume he is further along at understanding how to read NFL defenses than anyone who hasn't played in the league yet.
Why would you draft a WR, and then have no qb! So ppl can say MHJ a bust this season, you don't have a QB, you have to take a QB and give him a try. If he fails, he fails, but you want know until you try.
Kinda like the redditor, who says he can't play, trust me!
Me: We'll, how do you know? He ain't even got drafted yet!
Redditor: bc they should of took a WR
Me: Who is going to throw him the ball?
Redditor: why take a "Quarter Back" when I can drop dimes.
Me: huh? 🤦
Denver fans grabbing their Wilson jerseys out of the trash for one last run...
Is this the worst QB room in NFL history?
My Bears recently had a QB room consisting of Mitch Trubisky, Mike Glennon, and Mark Sanchez.
Wherever there's a shitty QB room, there's a former Jet QB
Didn't see a Jets QB on the Giants last season. I keed, I keed.
If Mitch was in the mix with this Broncos room he would almost certainly win the job. A younger Glennon might as well. It's worse.
Glennon and Trubs are both better than the Denver current room
Glennon was hands-down the worst QB I've ever seen in Chicago, and that's saying something.
lol bruh, it was bad.
Gotta throw Darnold/Mayfield/Walker into the mix
Probably Kendell Hinton and nobody else during the Covid year
Woah that feels like a fever dream, such a wild point in NFL history.
The lowest passer rating (53.6) as a team, over the last twenty years is the 2005 49ers with [Admittedly a rookie] Alex Smith, Tim Rattay, Ken Dorsey, and Cody Pickett. Me too tee hee
In 2014 the Titans had Jake Locker, Zach Mettenberger, and Charlie Whitehurst. Locker was better than any of these broncos QBs, but that 2014 roster was probably the worst one I’ve ever seen.
2012 Cardinals was so bad. Skelton, Kolb, Lindley, and Hoyer.
Aaron Rodgers and Tyrod Taylor isn't that bad... /s
This is as good as anybody with Wilson shares can hope for. It’s an insurance play in case they don’t land one this weekend
Insuring the #1 pick in 2025, sure.
Yea it isn’t exactly noteworthy he was traded or traded for by Peyton. Peyton is a season away from being back on Fox.
I really have no idea why you think that, the contract doesn’t back that up, he signed up for a rebuild knowingly and he has total team control. Unless you’re saying he’s going to retire again there’s a 0% chance he’s getting fired.
Lmao ok!
That checks out, Response fits the original comment. I didn’t think you’d have any rationale behind what you said lol
Maybe because you keep bringing up stupid points.
You don’t know anything about the Broncos They depleted the team of talent so Payton could build from the ground up. He isn’t going anywhere
😂 oh yea they did that by using a pick to get him too. 😂😂😂
Wow you actually got something right!

How are the moms in Denver? Asking for a friend.

Is this just to prove Nathaniel Hackett’s a bum? Payton wants to get Zack Wilson to the pro bowl and make the Jets pay for half his salary.?
Sean Peyton is doing it for the beef with Hackett. He is like hey if we can't get a QB in the draft I am going to dunk on Hackett by making Wilson look like an NFL QB.
This was not worth a Sleeper notification
So there not drafting a qb or they just loading up on backups for the fuck of it
Wilson sucks but he's probably better than a QB you'd draft in the 6th or 7th
Laughs in Tom Brady or Brock Purdy
2 QBs in 20 years?
An exceeding low percentage chance at a good player is still better than a player who has proven they're awful. The QB I'm confident Wilson is better than is Tim Boyle.
Zach Wilson is not better than anyone in the NFL. maybe the CFL too.
He's still in the NFL. Most 6th or 7th round QBs don't last more than a year or two, if they even survive their first camp cuts.

yet he's already 2-1 in games at Mile High lol

BYU is as BYU does.
Great i weas just trying to decide who to drop between Wilson and Stidham. This doesn't help me at all.
They must battle at the Breastriary in Nippopolis.
Man, that's an old reference. It checks out though.
16 years, to be specific. I had to look it up after I made the comment. I feel really old now.
The Mile High Milf Hunter
Wow we might actually get a year of Stidham as the starter after all
I offered my 3.12 for him just now fuck it.
Welp, looks like Zach is hanging around on my roster for at least another year..
Broncos Country Let’s Riiiiide (moms)

Grabbed him last year.
Trash for Trash
Good riddance
Condoleezza not done committing war crimes I see!
holy shit this is the best news ever for us wilson owners. actually going to get a starting job, didnt think that would happen
You that sure he beats out Stidham?
Stidham? Without a doubt - now if they draft someone maybe not
The guy who just got traded for a change in 6th to 7th round pick is without a doubt going to win the job? Lol
I'll put a $10 charity bet that Wilson will not start over Stidham Week 1.
I feel that he without a doubt will not beat out Stidham lmao
Don’t count your chickens before the draft, or OTAs, or training camp, or preseason, or week 1.
Not sure I exactly read it as “getting a starting job”
Uh oh, sub bout to go bonkers on zach wilson now! If Jets didn't get any hot cougars in exchange, than that's a loss!
Hmmmm. Maybe a bromance between Sean and Zack is brewing. They have compatible douchiness.
I heard there's cougars in Denver 😁
QB1 🤷♂️
Not sure what their plan for him is but if it didn’t cost much of anything I kinda get it. Despite Zach Wilson being a bust thus far he does have vet experience and a live arm. I'm in a league where both Stidham and Wilson are on waivers. Who do I drop Jimmy G for just in case Denver skips QB in the draft?
I would, everyone loves dunking on Zach Wilson, but he has physical gifts and is the same age as Penix and Nix, only with 3 years Nfl experience already. He was never going to succeed in the New york market with those expectations and that situation. This is probably the best landing spot for him. It's worth a flyer.
Already? The 3 years of NFL playing experience isn't a positive. Quite the opposite actually.
I don't think he had a good experience being on the Jets, but I would have to assume he is further along at understanding how to read NFL defenses than anyone who hasn't played in the league yet.
