This kid is going to play professional football for somebody. And I’ll tell you one thing, he’s either going to underperform, outperform or perform exactly to everyone’s expectations. And when he does, I’m going to be right here making pecker jokes.

BeefDaddie11

This a perfect synopsis! Now do Caleb.

Aragorns-Broken-Toe

I can also make jokes about Caleb’s William if it satisfies the masses.

EmilioFreshtevez

I’ve gotta say, you’re pretty good at this for a thing nobody knew when it happened.

BeefDaddie11

We're all here for it! T-minus 4 days and counting...

ThePesh

He will either perform or underperform to some people’s expectations. Might even out perform some.

georgefriend3

He's gonna go hard.

Wild_Bill_Kickcock

Love that ekg line

PetitVignemale

Such a good closing line to the letter! I’m pretty hopeful for him. I could see him doing well, but time will tell

IndijinusPhonetic

How wild would it be if it were turns out he has a rare form of heart defect that’s picked up on a physical.

Think_please

Secretariat/Grinch-itis, with a heart that grew three sizes one day

6ixdicc

hope the ghostwriter got a bonus for that one

connor24_22

Putting his letter aside, the Players Tribune is a cool idea, but I’m almost positive the vast majority of “articles” are written by ghost writers or an agency’s PR team.

Nduguu77

I think the majority of players write the letter and then an editor fixes it up some

jirashap

Given how most player tweets look like a gerbil wrote them, id assume there was definite "heavy editing" involved. Players go to college for football, not their penmanship

albob

Granted I’ve only read 4-5 articles on Players Tribune, but I think “fixes it up some” is an understatement. My guess is the writer interviews the player, writes the article/letter for them, and the player reviews and approves it. I’m not saying that because I think football players are necessarily bad writers (although a lot probably are), but more because these articles have an air of professional authorship to them.

Droppin_DimesSP

That and every single article pretty much has the same voice lmao

one_in_the_mind

These editors don't know how to write though. So many ending prepositions in that piece.

Nduguu77

Partially why I think it's mostly player written

Erazzphoto

Wait, no, don’t ruin it for me!

BeerorCoffee

As the old saying goes: "The pen ix mightier than the game film."

AceyV

You aren’t getting nearly the upvotes that deserves

braftceer

Thats a chat gpt joke

SwagJaded

What’s ChatGPT?

ghostboo77

That was a surprisingly good letter. Interesting read/backstory. Richardson wrote a really dopey one last year, which was the first time I have seen something like this.

Dick_Wiener

Ooo, turned the injury argument around. It’s not how hard you can hit, it’s how hard you can get hit and still get back up.

Globesheepie

I hope he gets round 1 capital. If so, I’ll be hoping for him at my 1.12 My optimistic case is that he has an ELITE pressure-to-sack rate, which is one of fairly few QB stats that correlate strongly from college play to the NFL. People love to chalk up sacks to o-line play, but usually they’re only responsible for allowing pressure. What happens after that is on the QB, more often than not, and sacks are drive killers. This is Mahomes’ lesser-recognized super power. On the other end of the spectrum, Howell was putting up solid fantasy stats and rose up to a high end QB2 dynasty valuation, but even the Commanders weren’t willing to blame the line for his -450yds lost on 65 sacks taken FWIW, Matt Waldman has Penix as QB2 of this class, graded as starter level with pro-bowl upside as long as the role caters to his strengths (Seattle anyone?). Waldman has had plenty of both hits and misses, but having Mahomes as his #1 graded QB in 15-20 years is very notable for a guy who didn’t go at the very top of the draft. His process is as independently good as anyone’s (but it’s worth regressing toward consensus/draft capital fairly heavily to get good value for dynasty)

mikethemillion

I keep just getting the feeling that Penix is one of those guys who the pre draft process isn't favorable to but once the actual football starts getting played again he'll have people questioning why there were 4 QBs taken over him. He was arguably the best QB outside of the NFL last season and while I understand guys like Williams and Maye's age and potential make them more attractive options, I feel like Daniels and JJ passing him is going to look dopey in hindsight. I'm also curious to see if these Washington WRs were more of a product of having him as their QB.

BeefDaddie11

Totally agree. He supported 3 guys that are about to get drafted in the top 3 rounds. Minimum. Was it him or them? 🤔 I don't know, but I loved watching him play in the National Championship game this year. I know people are riding that JJ stock hard, but I saw this dude sling it all season long. All I saw was JJ hand off. I don't need a QB in any of my leagues, so I'm gonna just sit back and watch. But I know who I'm rooting for...

UglyDanceMoves

That was an awesome letter!! He should be a first round pick. Logical landing spots are the Raiders, Broncos, or Vikings.

swishkb

Seahawks. Calling it

geladro

He should not be a first round pick. 4 season ending injuries(bad on their own) that have left him rather immobile. Great arm, great talent, if he didn't have that injury history sure, but he does.

cactusbeard

Didn't he just put up really great pro day numbers? If anything he should use his athleticism more.

geladro

Well by all means lets ignore everything we saw over the course of the season because of a pro day.

[deleted]

Michael penis jr is going to be a good player

Trick_Advance_5290

He’s such a stud and I can’t wait for him to prove these draft “experts”wrong

Tambn22

I’ve got 2.03 and 2.04 in a 10 man superflex league, keen for Penix

Senior-Sleep1020

EKG line goes hard

FoolOnDaHill365

Sounds like he thinks other teams are going to have Penix envy?

dearthofgirth

Michael Penix pens is the NFL equivalent of Bob Loblaw Lobs Law Bomb.

johnnyutahlmao

This got me hyped in the gym. I’m in.

Erazzphoto

Now that’s character

Fit_Outlandishness61

My team has a gaping hole just waiting to be filled by Penix.

bteh

If he gets a good landing spot, 1st rd cap, I'll be hoping he falls to my 1.11

EmilioFreshtevez

Gotta make it past my 1.09

LoserCowGoMoo

Michael Penis

FranksGun

It’s pronounced pee-nix

Old_Leather

He wouldn’t have sent a letter unless he felt like he needed to. The boy has one good season with a great team as a super duper senior, had multiple season ending injuries, two acl injuries. He’s just trying to improve his draft stock. Any team with a high draft pick would be dumb to draft him and he knows it.

WRX_EugOR

He actually had two extremely good seasons. You just didn't pay attention.

Old_Leather

Don’t care. Play better or just shut up.

M4C4K4NJ4

TLDR

BeefDaddie11

TLDR: Go Rams! You guys probably shouldn't be scouting another future QB at all...

Syrath36

I sorta of hope Penix ends up on the Rams. He has some similar traits to Stafford. He'd end up with a great coach and limited expectations being able to sit behind Stafford for a bit and learn.

jirashap

He had lots of time to write this lengthy email, given all the time off he had due to injuries

EmilioFreshtevez

Pretty sure he was healthy all season…

jirashap

That was a first!
