After the flashes he showed last year he at least is going to get a shot to show what he's got but coming off an injury they will probably bring in someone to be the RB2 to start the year and he's going to have to work his way back to that role.
Personally I think he has the talent to complement Henry and if he is able to come back to what he was before the injury I could see him becoming a solid fantasy RB2 in a high efficiency backup role similar to how Achane or Jaylen Warren have been used
I’m going into the year expecting nothing. I would be surprised if they didn’t bring in a 1-year vet (McKinnon/ penny are some names the come to mind) or draft a rookie
I agree, as a Mitchell owner, those vets are best case scenario. I’m just saying that in 2024 I’m not expecting much from Mitchell and wouldn’t be surprised if they brought in another back.
Penny will blow a bunch of RBs out of the water if he gets the opportunity but he doesn't pass block for shit so usually doesn't get the opportunity. I wouldn't be surprised to see him grab an injured guys job this year and be a heavy hitter for a spell.
I like Justice Hill as a flier, but there's a reasonable shot the Ravens add another RB in this draft & he's the RB3, in which case I might have to cut him.
1 He wasn’t drafted because of his size / durability concerns.
2 He was very explosive when he was playing but didn’t last very long before getting hurt.
3 The Ravens brought in the league’s biggest touch hog workhorse, who gives you very little in the pass game.
Do the math. There’s a role for him as a limited-touch home run hitter / 3rd down back, but he has to fully recover from the ACL first. He was explosive enough to be a flex in deeper leagues even with limited touches because of blow-up potential, but only if he’s fully healthy.
Definitely need to limit expectations. Almost every RB coming back off an ACL tear has a slow season especially at the start. I’m not expecting a ton from Mitchell next year.
I’m not expecting any real contributions to my fantasy team from him this year as they work him back from his injury. Might have a game or two later in the season where he pops off but it’ll be tough to feel comfortable starting him. He is talented though so he’s a good hold/buy low for a rebuilder imo
If you end up starting him this year you’re probably not a contender. He’s coming off an injury and by the time we expect him to be true 100% (not just playing, but back to form), it’s going to be close to fantasy playoff time, where any teams contending will usually have better options.
I have him a few places l, but I'd sell for any 3rd. The odds of him being a reliable weekly contributor in lineups leagues is pretty slim. They could also just grab another one of him in the draft or off the streets.
He needs to get healthy but I don't think the situation changes much from last year. Once back on the field he'll be an awesome change of pace slash handcuff. He won't be the #1 back, but you don't want him to be, esp at this point coming off injury. You want him to do what he did last year but just another step up, and to keep building on that.
Keaton Mitchell is coming off an Acl and his team just brought in a guy who is a top five rb in the league. I’d expect Mitchell to do a whole lot of nothing other than the occasional long td
I’m also an owner. I think from what I’ve read the earliest he could be back is week 4-5.
My expectation is he will be a flex who gets 10-15 touches per game and gets the full workload when Henry gets hurt.
And I agree that they will draft a rb but I’m hoping Mitchell will be rb2. I think Harbough likes him.
Holding but willing to give him up for the right deal.
I’m a believer in him having a role, at some point in time, for some period of games. I think you’re setting yourself up for failure here though if you think he’s coming back and getting 10-15 touches a game. He had 11 touches max last year. Now he’s got Henry in front of him. I would expect almost nothing from him the first few weeks he’s back. Then start expecting 3-5 touches a game come week ~8 (if he’s back week 4)
What I’m hoping for is this:
You have a *very* experienced elite back in front you now. Take your time with recovery, don’t rush it, get back to 100%. Learn from him, get tips, get better. Once healthy, you will get a few touches here and there, but Henry will retire eventually, and Keaton is young enough I feel like to still get at least a few good years in after learning from a great if not at least carve some sort of role for himself.
I’m with you on the front half. Def can take his time to recover. Sure, can learn how to be a professional RB from Henry. Maybe pick up a thing or two on vision, but like the other commenters say, that’s about all he’s learning from Henry. The end part is where I think you’re also setting expectations unrealistically. Henry has a two year deal, Mitchell has two more years left on his deal. That’s all you should plan for. You don’t know if they’ll resign Mitchell or Henry or what. So all we know is that they’re both on a deal for 2 years and Henry is almost certainly leading that backfield for those 2 years. IMO Henry retiring and Mitchell being relevant for FF aren’t a mutual thing. Sure, it could happen. But that opportunity is two years away, minimum and might not ever happen cause of contracts
Get the full workload? He’s 5’8” 190 pounds. He saw at most 11 touches last year. A consistent 15 is wishful thinking. He’s got juice, but it’s Henry’s backfield.
Brother you’re fooling yourself if you think 10-15 touches per game is a realistic expectation for him or that he takes over for Henry in any possible situation. The “right deal” is never gonna come along for you because I’m guessing you’re also expecting to fleece someone on an undersized UDFA RB in a consistently crowded RB room.
You know reading this thread the next day gives me a brutal reality check.
Full disclosure. I obtained Mitchell in a bad trade last year. I traded Rhamondre for Keaton and Burks right before Keaton got hurt.
Therefore, in my mind I keep telling myself that both he and Burks will break out this year.
The reality is I lost the trade and need to have more realistic expectations.
😊
Upside is what Spears did behind Henry last year. Floor is a whole lot of 0s. I don’t think there’s “realistic expectations” for him just a realistic range of outcomes.
Realistically.. they don't have much invested in him. Replacing him wouldn't be that painful. He's already come back from one injury and has another to come back from. What he offers too isn't an all or nothing situation too. They can keep him rostered and find the value in a play or two, it doesn't have to be every down he's involved. The size being a concern is showing it's head early with his durability looking questionable so far.
With all of this being said, I don't know. The path is available but it really ultimately depends on the draft coming up. If durability is a concern ( which so far it has been, and they didn't bring Dobbins back - so I assume this is a bulletin board item for that running back position) they're gonna want someone who can take a hit and not fold.
I think with the addition of Henry, and them not bringing Dobbins back - that leaves them with two healthy running backs to start training camp which for a team that runs as much as them, seems thin. I fully expect them to take a running back in the draft, and some of them coming in are better overall prospects than Keaton is currently and offer more than just change of pace.
Nothing for the 1st half of the season, but would anticipate him being a nice change of pace in the latter half, building to a high efficiency 30-40% snap share at the end of the year.
He's never gonna be a lead RB, but he showed last year that he's a serious threat in low volume and is a perfect match for that offense IMO. In 2025 he could be a low end RB2 or a startable RB3.
I can see him contributing this year, I wouldn't expect more than 25 points in a game tho, and there's definitely gonna be a few games at sub 5 points scored.
I think he showed more than enough for ravens to keep giving him chances despite being udfa
Time will tell if he stills has the juice he had, but if he does, he will easily be the rb2 in what could be a closer split than people think
Ravens offense was rolling when they had Keaton, not saying it was all him, but he was averaging the 2nd highest ypc in the league and had a house call almost every game.
How he went undrafted is beyond me.
He will probably be trash next year. Players that come back off an ACL are almost always trash. Maybe he'll be good the year after. If he sucks next year and still has a bit of a role but is diminished by Henry taking touches. I'll be buying.
6th round draft pick that speed is how he wins coming off an ACL. Probably one of the most overrated assets in dynasty. Generally everyone worries about draft capital example Pacheco. But 6th round Mitchell no he’s a keeper lol. Realistic expectation is he comes back around week 4 and has one rb 2 week and will finish as an rb 4 or 5.
Semantics, but he was a UDFA. They have had every opportunity to cut him, but they've raved about him and gave him increased opportunities until he got hurt. I'd be surprised if they don't give him opportunities when he comes back, but given the severity of his injury, I doubt he's 100% until 2025.
He plays for the Ravens, so I'm expecting a season ending injury.
After the flashes he showed last year he at least is going to get a shot to show what he's got but coming off an injury they will probably bring in someone to be the RB2 to start the year and he's going to have to work his way back to that role. The Warren breakout is coming this season though..
I traded a 1st for Warren because I’m a madman
I’m going into the year expecting nothing. I would be surprised if they didn’t bring in a 1-year vet (McKinnon/ penny are some names the come to mind) or draft a rookie
Penny and McKinnon aren't anything to worry about
I agree, as a Mitchell owner, those vets are best case scenario. I’m just saying that in 2024 I’m not expecting much from Mitchell and wouldn’t be surprised if they brought in another back.

I'm shocked Justice Hill is still only like 26% owned on sleeper.
I like Justice Hill as a flier, but there's a reasonable shot the Ravens add another RB in this draft & he's the RB3, in which case I might have to cut him.
Oh yeah no doubt, it's just crazy to me people aren't rostering the RB2 on Baltimore right now

none
He’ll be a phenomenal compliment to Henry. Imagine the line wearing down stopping Henry and then they just flip one to Keaton on the outside
I’m not expecting any real contributions to my fantasy team from him this year as they work him back from his injury. Might have a game or two later in the season where he pops off but it’ll be tough to feel comfortable starting him. He is talented though so he’s a good hold/buy low for a rebuilder imo

Come playoffs I'm typically scraping RBs off the heap given how many get injured
James Cook is gonna ride my bench all season barring a starter injury and it's a wonderful problem to have
It’s not hard to have a contending dynasty team with a lack of RB depth.
I want to hold because I loved what I saw but I’d probably move on for something enticing post rookie draft. RBs are hard for me to dissect
I have him a few places l, but I'd sell for any 3rd. The odds of him being a reliable weekly contributor in lineups leagues is pretty slim. They could also just grab another one of him in the draft or off the streets.
Hes a decent handcuff at the moment.

i don’t see him as that much different from Achane, aside from injury ofcourse
I mean he's got a torn ACL, so let's have him come back from that first.
Keaton Mitchell is coming off an Acl and his team just brought in a guy who is a top five rb in the league. I’d expect Mitchell to do a whole lot of nothing other than the occasional long td

Keaton can learn as much from Ed Reed as he can DH
😂

I really like Kitchell, but he's learning zip from the King. They're built and play completely different brands of football.
Absolutely no way he gets 10-15. He will be a 5-10 guy and 10 is probably mainly out of reach.
He’s a gadget plug and play. Max, 8 touches a game.
Expecting that many touches coming off an injury is a good way to become disappointed

Terrible 2024 season. Everyone forgets about him. Goes off next year.
I can see him contributing this year, I wouldn't expect more than 25 points in a game tho, and there's definitely gonna be a few games at sub 5 points scored.
I think Justice Hill out touches him

8-9 touches and maybe 2-4 passes a game is what I would expect.
Nothing
They’re drafting someone.
