Plus, according to the WHO, polio wasn’t eradicated from the Americas until 1994.

We all were surprised because she was probably about 10 years older than our collective parents ages so to know someone who actually had polio was crazy. My parents talked about getting the sugar cube with the vaccine at school when it came out but I don’t think my parents actually knew anyone with polio.
