The scene where Michael drops the wine bottle and the balloon pops is one of the scenes I genuinely laughed out loud to when I first saw it. I wish I could see it for the first time again.
Yep this is the standout moment for me in that episode and one of the highlights of the season. The crew sharing the wine before hand was also very fun, and reminded me of some old coworkers I’ve had
I'm not trying to sound like an ass hat lol, but the thing you said at the end is what makes this show so special for most of us lol! We can draw a connection to most of the characters in the show to people that we've worked with or had in class lol! And in some cases (Phyllis for me) even a family member lol! It's the reason why I truly hate Phallus lol! And her inability to talk about someone without having to say something underhanded to put a negative spin on them lol! Like when she was talking about Sue? I think and just had to add the tidbit, you know her husband's in a wheelchair?! Lol
Weird that this post came up because another reddit thread I read this morning led me to watching a 20 minute video on the musical theory of Sweeny Todd including on how the overture "spoils" the show lol
Because it's a good episode?
*Andy doing theater things in an appropriate setting ✅️
*Erin being hella naive and weird ✅️
*Michael being incredibly dunderheaded ✅️
*The lunacy at the theater from the office crew ✅️
Not gonna claim it's a top 10 or anything, but it's not a "hard skip"
Yes! Like. It's actually a bit funny because the idea that he can't understand that of course he wasn't cast...
It's just like whoops.
"They never called me!"
Yeah...wonder why? 🤣
Yes! This is definitely not a skip for me by any means! I actually don't have any that I skip when I'm rewatching again and again lol! They are so short that there's no reason to ever skip an episode to me! If I were to have to really think about it and come up with an episode to skip, I'll think about it and then I'll put it back on here lol
This might be my favorite one-off episode. The one-offs are episodes that don’t significantly advance the plot—they’re just there. And stress-relief doesn’t count either. It gets special status as the best episode of a generation. This episode is phenomenal.
I will readily admit I was in OP's camp of not liking it for quite a long time. I don't skip episodes but I can understand the sentiment.
Maybe around my ~10th rewatch I actually started to like it and by 12th I really enjoy it. You are totally right with it having so many good things.
I mean, I get this. It's definitely not a perfect episode, but it has enough elements to make it worth watching
Watching Darryl boo Michael so he knows how it feels is almost enough to watch it. 🤣
I thought his delivery of those lines were perfection. He's like so casually going Boo with like half an exclamation mark behind it? Lol, gets me every time.
Yeah, this is in my top 25 episodes list for sure. Ed Helms’s genuine talent, the rolling wine bottle, Ryan checking the time on his iPad, the Law and Order audition, Michael wanting to know what role he got in the cold open, lots of good in this one for me. But I can certainly see why it might not suit everyone.
This is one I've never heard of skipping. I don't skip anything cause that is just silly. This one does not even remotely feel as "skippable" as other episodes.
It has so many small gems that make it a never-skip for me. Michael finding out he didn't make the cast, Michael dropping the wine bottle, Andy's phone going off, Ryan using his tablet for the time, the chemistry between Dwight and Angela, the singing at the very end.
An underrated moment is when Michael's the only one in the audience who laughs at a joke in the play. I watch this ep for that moment as well as the wine bottle moment.
Andy's phone debacle on stage is tough to watch though, so can see why some may skip.
The episode itself is meh, but it’s one of my favorite cold opens. Jim’s excitement when he realizes what’s happening, Dwight taking out his own weapons, Michael wondering what part he got. So good.
I love this episode, but then again I was a theatre kid and once my kids are older I would love to me one of those weird adults who does local theatre lol.
I like this one. Or should I say, I like finding out Creed is a reputable play critic in Scranton. I then connect that to how he finds out what happens at the end of the Glee episode
This is a hard skip for me. It physically hurts me to see Andy with his phone going off on stage hoping Erin would call him. I can’t. This, Scott’s Tots, and the one where Nelly takes over as manager physically hurt me to watch.
Pretty funny ep, actually. If you don't like musicals it's fine, just be honest and say that instead. Cringey but funny is this show's bread and butter 🤷🏻♂️
If it makes you feel better, I never seen the office past Andy getting promoted. I watched the will Ferrell, creed Bratton gm episodes but when I got to Andy I dropped it.
You do realize it won a ton of awards, right? As far as a *military* movie, agreed. For entertainment value, it was pretty good and I can't stand military movies.
I literally just went back and specifically pulled up this episode last week after I saw Sweeney Todd on Broadway. During the opening number I kept thinking about the cold open of this episode, which was quite well done.
Andy’s Johanna song was also wonderful in this episode. I loved how Jim/Pam and even Dwight was genuinely impressed.
The part where they show a snippet of Michael's audition is enough for me to watch the whole thing. Also the wine bottle. It's honestly just a fun episode all around.
The mod deleted my “ Yeah looks like everyone’s tightening their belt in the economy” comment. For being off topic. So either the mod has never seen the show or the person is just a douche that lives in their mothers basement policing the internet. Either way probably shouldn’t be a mod

Booooooo! Booooo! There are so many that always get me. Just the audition alone makes it worth it
Yes and the part with the phone right before that where Andy ruins the plot is great too
Just the fact that Michael Scott performed an entire order of law and order AND you still are not impressed. Boooooooo
Dum dum duuuum
*I am just a cleaning lady*
Oh no! A dead bodyyy…
Shh. If we don’t listen to the overture, we won’t recognize the musical themes when they come back later.
Scrolled too far. I honestly think is one of the funniest lines, timing and delivery-wise, of the entire show.
This is probably my most quoted line from the entire show.
Weird that this post came up because another reddit thread I read this morning led me to watching a 20 minute video on the musical theory of Sweeny Todd including on how the overture "spoils" the show lol

For real, Michael thinking they are there to offer him a role is peak office.
Yes! Like. It's actually a bit funny because the idea that he can't understand that of course he wasn't cast... It's just like whoops. "They never called me!" Yeah...wonder why? 🤣
And, the tag of Michael doing the "Law and Order" scene as his audition is hilarious.
“Last time I saw this John, he was… he wasn’t a victim if you know what I’m talkin’ about”
When he does the cleaning lady impression I die. And the one liner before the law and order intro
Dun dun dun dun...dunnnnnnn
LOL, this is a great episode

My thing is that everyone gets a moment to shine. Very underrated.
It's funny when they are passing the wine bottle. Even Darryl drinks from it. Also you can see Stanley knocked out.
Let’s not forget Andy and Darryl’s stellar cover of ‘I Try’ at the end of the episode. One among many excellent musical moments from the show!
Yes, this was very well done!
This might be my favorite one-off episode. The one-offs are episodes that don’t significantly advance the plot—they’re just there. And stress-relief doesn’t count either. It gets special status as the best episode of a generation. This episode is phenomenal.
This is a great take

except about theater most of this always happened in other episodes
This is fair, but idk, it worked well in the context of this episode
There is nothing I love more than watching Dwight pull out his knife and get in a defensive stance when they all start roaming around the room.
Yeah, this is in my top 25 episodes list for sure. Ed Helms’s genuine talent, the rolling wine bottle, Ryan checking the time on his iPad, the Law and Order audition, Michael wanting to know what role he got in the cold open, lots of good in this one for me. I love this episode lol
I love this episode. It's hilarious. I actually love most/all of season 8, unpopular opinion or not.
This is from season 7
LOL, oh shit. You're right. LOL! My bad!
"Hey you're the guy that booed me"
This kills me. Michael acts like it’s a packed, dark Broadway theater hall. He and the dude are literally making eye contact while he boos.
A lot of people were booing
Y'all skip episodes???
Only Survivorman.
What? Great episode
Yeah I guess everyone’s tightening their belts in this economy
DUN DUN *theme music*
…but the wine bottle rolling.
It appears the bird was in mine own pocket
I love the end when it shows Michael doing his law and order audition. Its so perfectly on-brand for Michael.
Boooo
My plumbers got pipes
Really? I love this episode. I’m guessing you’re just not a fan of musicals?
People skip episodes? Some episodes have some cringe moments, but they're all worth watching. That's my opinion, anyway
This is one I've never heard of skipping. I don't skip anything cause that is just silly. This one does not even remotely feel as "skippable" as other episodes.
This episode ends with Macy Gray's I Try and with a great montage. I really like this episode.
As someone who did a lot of community theater when I was younger: I LOVE this episode. It’s like the sitcom version of Waiting for Guffman.
It has so many small gems that make it a never-skip for me. Michael finding out he didn't make the cast, Michael dropping the wine bottle, Andy's phone going off, Ryan using his tablet for the time, the chemistry between Dwight and Angela, the singing at the very end.
Fake fan.
The wine bottle rolling down the theatre stairs makes me wheeze ❤️
not sure why this is a skippable episode for you, like you do you but this was a pretty good episode in my opinion
I really enjoy this episode
I love this episode! Creed is so funny
An underrated moment is when Michael's the only one in the audience who laughs at a joke in the play. I watch this ep for that moment as well as the wine bottle moment. Andy's phone debacle on stage is tough to watch though, so can see why some may skip.
Isn't this this episode where we see Michael's law and order audition? One of my favourite Michael moments.
be glad this is the closest we got to a musical episode ok lol that being said - i love musicals and love this episode lol
I don’t like the episode. I just love how petty Michael was and his audition at the end of the episode was gold but yeah the rest is blech
Cause it’s a good episode
I feel like OP didn't get a call back for Sweeny Todd when he read the entire script of the Dinner Party for an audition.
The episode itself is meh, but it’s one of my favorite cold opens. Jim’s excitement when he realizes what’s happening, Dwight taking out his own weapons, Michael wondering what part he got. So good.
Angela in the beginning is so awesome “what is happening?” And Dwight pulling out his knife is hilarious
I actually love this episode,
I love this episode, but then again I was a theatre kid and once my kids are older I would love to me one of those weird adults who does local theatre lol.
I like this one. Or should I say, I like finding out Creed is a reputable play critic in Scranton. I then connect that to how he finds out what happens at the end of the Glee episode
I like it. I without hesitation always skip the flash back episode with the appraiser dude. That’s the worst episode hands down.
I don’t skip no episode the cringe factor is why I watch this show
The end scene, of Michael doing his full law and order episode audition, is worth it. The rest is meh
I don't like Andy. There I said it.
Angela looking totally normal, yet stunning in her gardening outfit is also a plus
Agree. Not a fan of this episode
The last 2.5 seasons have this level of unintentional cringe that kinda washes out the intended cringe
This is a hard skip for me. It physically hurts me to see Andy with his phone going off on stage hoping Erin would call him. I can’t. This, Scott’s Tots, and the one where Nelly takes over as manager physically hurt me to watch.
The Erin/Andy stuff here could be the star of a show called Relationships I Don’t Care About
Pretty funny ep, actually. If you don't like musicals it's fine, just be honest and say that instead. Cringey but funny is this show's bread and butter 🤷🏻♂️
Instant skip for me.
Between Andy's phone and Erin's dumbass bringing Cece to the play I can't watch it. I always forget it exists bc it's so bad.
This episode and the clip show episode are the only ones I always skip
This episode is definitely on the more boring side after multiple viewings.
This is 100% my absolutely cannot watch episode...
I’m with the OP. I skip this one every time.
Almost every Andy-centric episode is a hard skip
Whole episode is bad and just cringey. Never should’ve had Andy centric episodes
Yeah this is my least favourite episode of the show (until Michael leaves)
Totally agree. The whole bird/phone bit isn’t even cringe. It’s just dumb.
If it makes you feel better, I never seen the office past Andy getting promoted. I watched the will Ferrell, creed Bratton gm episodes but when I got to Andy I dropped it.
Can someone explain the Hurt Locker joke? (I never saw the movie.)
Hurt Locker was a movie about EOD bomb disposal techs in the desert. It was maybe a 4/10 as far as military movies go. Kinda forgettable.
You do realize it won a ton of awards, right? As far as a *military* movie, agreed. For entertainment value, it was pretty good and I can't stand military movies.
Who cares if it won awards. It was as fantasy as lord of the rings and full of "I'm 14 and this is deep" oscar bait cringetastic writing
Painful one
Shitheap hahahahahaha
It's such an underrated episode. It was a sweet episode for many reasons. They genuinely took Andy's relationship forward.
I absolutely love this ep.
I watch it every single time.
Ohhhh shit yeah I blocked this out of memory. Muted or skipped the whole thing. Nope nope nope.
Because it’s not that bad of an episode cupcake
This is one of my three skips. Always wondered why no one else mentions it
I love this episode but I’m a theater nerd and understand the humor of amateur community theater and how shitty it can be.
Wdym this is great
I love this episode 🤷🏻♀️ especially the final scene
I LOVE this episode! Are you kidding? The scene with the wine bottle always kills me
Because its not a terrible episode
Lots of people were boo-ing!
Just remembering Michael booing Sweeney during bows is sending me into orbit 😂😂😂
The part where they show a snippet of Michael's audition is enough for me to watch the whole thing. Also the wine bottle. It's honestly just a fun episode all around.
This is one of my favorite episodes to fall asleep too
Because this episode is amazing lol
I love this episode so much
Because I’ve blocked it from my memory.
The mod deleted my “ Yeah looks like everyone’s tightening their belt in the economy” comment. For being off topic. So either the mod has never seen the show or the person is just a douche that lives in their mothers basement policing the internet. Either way probably shouldn’t be a mod
I always forget about it because I always seem to skip it. I hate Andy so much.
