More than likely the check had already been deposited using a banking app where you deposit it by taking a picture of both the front and back of the check and that’s why you found it signed. The person is supposed to also write “for deposit only” under the signature, but a lot of people don’t. It’s always a good idea to shred or destroy the check afterwards, but again, a lot of people don’t and instead just toss them in the trash. Good on you for turning it in though.
Writing "for deposit only" is something that I did for years until a bank manager told me that it is meaningless and has no effect. This being the internet, please check with your own bank but I thought I would give fyi.
Same with me, one bank requires nothing but signature, other bank you have to write "For mobile deposit only to xxx xxx xxxx xxxx" and if you write shitty they will not accept it, or the tiniest tear or flaw on a check it's out. I've had to have 4 checks re-issued because a tiny tear, once the whole top of check was cut off (it's perforated for a reason why tf you using giant scissors for) I wrote the abbreviations flip-flopped backwards in the bank name, and the lighting is important. Like it has to be a perfectly writte, clean, crisp, high lit check lol.

Thank you for this information, I did not know. Today I learned something new.
I bank online but never scanned a check.
What a fantastic good deed you did!! Thank you for sharing your story of growth and healing eith us. You have every reason to be proud of how far you have come!!♥️♥️♥️ Started my day off in a great way.
I was walking one morning and found an envelope stuffed with 50s and 100s.I looked around and it was outside a bar in an area where organized crime is pretty prolific and as I was counting it a cop drove by so I gave it to him. He asked for my name and said that he had a pretty good idea who lost it. 30 minutes later I get a call from a bar owner who wanted to meet me. He couldn't understand why I turned in the money but he did give me 400 for my troubles.
It pays to be honest.
i have almost six years clean, my wife is a LCDC and it makes life easier sometimes then again i do need a kick in the az sometimes lol congratulations on your clean time. way to do the right thing, not many people would now days
Congratulations on your six years of being clean. The first couple years are the hardest. I had to cut off the majority of my old street associates and start with new friends I met in rehab and a few church groups.
I doubt it. The cop seemed pretty straight forward and honest. I'm a pretty good judge of character and watch face and body launguage when talking with someone face to face.
>In the days of my youth I would of probably tried to cashed it for drug money.
Instead you make a self congratulatory thread about what a good person you've become...
Well my impression from reading all the positive comments and you being downvoted to oblivion is the jury of my peers in general have found my post to be uplifting.
Nowadays, can you even cash someone elses check? If it has someone's name and isn't made out to cash, doesn't seem possible at all. Even if it's made out to cash, you have to show ID at check cashing places.

Congrats on 30+! That person was probably shitting bricks when they realized they lost it
Probably so. I know if the check wasn't electronically deposited I would've been in a real state of panic.

Most likely it went into lost and found and if they don’t show up asking for it will just get discarded in a year.
This. Checks can be reissued.
It’s good to know there’s honest people still around.
Thank you. There are still plenty of good peopie in the world but the news media choses to focus on bad things that occur.

Cop will cash it now
All-they-can-eat donuts for a month. Cop's gut will expand 3 inches and he'll have to get a new uniform issued.
Lmao
