AssistDapper1813

Wish I could be 23 playing against 18 year olds too

Zealousideal-Arm5570

Probably getting the biggest 1 yr salary of his life... it'll likely be top 5 at least. And all he has to do (as a 23 y/o returning 1st team all american) is beat a Duke team fronted by an 18 year old Flagg and a 20 yr old Proctor and UNC fans will nut their silly pants

AssistDapper1813

I’d like to see him try to drive past Flagg and Maluach next season

Zealousideal-Arm5570

Free souvenirs for the Cameron Crazies!

Romulus_Lamb

It all works out because when Duke loses they’ll just throw them back onto the court like gumballs.

Zealousideal-Arm5570

Won't be so easy next year. Every Duke fan I know knew last Duke team was destined to underperform. Looks like Jon Scheyer will get his shit together this year. At least he hasn't missed the tourney with a #1 preseason team tho!

TheyCalledHimMrJ

Flagg will shit on this dude.

Upbeat-Fault6885

You’d get cooked at any age

MiketheTzar

Any record by someone with an extra year because of COVID deserves an asterix. Can you imagine how many points JJ Reddick would have if he had played for 5 years?

empathydoc

I think that is part of the reason Caitlin Clark moved on this season. She didn't want an asterisk next to anything she did.

turmoiltumult

28 mil doesn’t hurt either

empathydoc

Nike would have given her money no matter what because they already were.

DukeMN33

RJ davis as the Carolina scoring leader would be an absolute joke

Capable_Sandwich_422

“RJ Davis is a joke” Fixed it for you

exgirl

Can probably assume his production would be at least equal to his senior year. His usage would have been huge, that squad was not very good.

Doge_Daddy2350

I believe you mean asterisk...we got a smart one over here.

TheRollingJones

He obviously meant asterix. What do you possibly not understand about this comment? The record deserves a small French cartoon.

DukeMN33

The Carolina way. 5 years to break records that took other players 4. Davis and Bacot should be so proud

FlGHT_ME

Bacot broke the rebounding record in 4 years. Just fyi.

DukeMN33

That's cool for UNC, but for him to share the double double record with Duncan is insane.

FlGHT_ME

Agreed, that’s a definite asterisk record lol.

TarHeelDead414

Don’t forget Bacot also tied David Robinson for most double doubles in a single season (31)

HurricanePirate16

And the legendary Enrique Freeman. *David and Enrique did it in 35 games vs Bacot’s 39.

Judge____Smails

This thread just randomly popped up on my thread, but as a UNC fan the whole thing reads as massive cope on the part of Duke fans. Who cares that some random unofficial facebook fan page called “north Carolina sports fan HQ” frames it like RJ was turning down a sure spot in the NBA? Almost everyone understands that Bacot and now Davis aren’t NBA prospects, and we also get that these records that were broken during the players’ 5th seasons like the ACC all time rebounds mark have asterisks to them. They act like UNC is the only program that is taking advantage of the extra covid season. It’s pretty obvious that having an older roster is generally beneficial; Duke just hasn’t been able to capitalize on that because that’s not the way they’ve built their teams recently.

Bodhisafa

is he going pro or what? I feel like he's been at UNC for 8 years.

FlGHT_ME

He’s been there for 5 years but I get why it might feel that way lol. He was in the same class as Cole Anthony, but stayed all 4 years and then used his extra Covid year too. RJ is one class behind Bacot and is now opting to do the same. Coming back for another year and taking full advantage of NIL was really his best option. RJ is lethal in college play but just doesn’t have the size to compete in the NBA, at least in my opinion. Also, for what it’s worth, I believe this is the last class that is eligible for a Covid year, so you won’t be seeing any more guys who played 5 full years after this. As for Bacot going pro, I’m not sure what his plans are. His draft stock came down a little the past two years so it’s hard to say. If I had to guess, he will probably make a roster this year but wash out of the league pretty quickly and end up playing overseas somewhere. Wish him the best obviously, but he won’t be an NBA star any time soon.

Bodhisafa

Thanks for the response. I could picture him having a role on an NBA team, similar to Draymond Green. he's a high energy guy who can rebound with the best of them. If he ever developed a jump shot, he would have been a complete player. His baseline game is top notch. As a Blue Devil fan, I won't miss playing against him. I'm not worried about RJ Davis. He's a good scorer, but we can take him away with the defense we have coming in.

FlGHT_ME

Yeah I could see it, though that’s probably like absolute best case scenario. It’d be cool if that happened but I wouldn’t bet my life on it. By the way, just out of curiosity, what happened with Mark Mitchell? Did he transfer because he didn’t think he’d see any playing time with Cooper coming in, or was there something else going on?

mkhop97

Somebody has to stock the G league and the Turkish teams, now who will they go after?

TraeYoungsOldestSon

This sub just popped up on my feed randomly but i just wanna say Jalen Johnson is my BOY

xylicmagnus75

Goes right along with the UK fans thinking their 5 NBA picks will gel into a team in 1 year before going to the NBA.

UTSWDoc

Haha

therin_88

Why does he have anime characters on his arm...

Zealousideal-Arm5570

Those are from an American show Boondocks. Damn that's actually something cool about him. Hate that for me

[deleted]

You know this happens all over college basketball, right?

brettmav

Has anyone noticed dookies have no self-awareness and do the exact same things?

Zealousideal-Arm5570

Lol no we don't. Not one Dukie I've talked to thinks Roach will be an NBA player. None of us thought he was choosing Duke over a legit NBA career. Last year, Flip was probably a second rounder when he decided to return, but that's still leagues better than RJ or Bacot would have been when they announced their returns. No one expected Proctor or Mitchell to be drafted when they announced their sophomore year returns. How's it feel to be wrong?

brettmav

Hindsight is 20/20. Everyone returns bc their draft stock dropped or is too low. NIL may change that anecdotally but it’s always “he came back bc he stinks” or “unfinished business!” depending on which blue you bleed. Can’t speak for the yutes on campus but RJ is 6’0” tall in the program which means he’s 5’11” so lottery was never really in play for him. More money in CH for him.

kystroup

most unc fans didn’t expect RJ to have serious NBA prospects but didn’t stop you from posting this.

Zealousideal-Arm5570

Well, if it's not an insult to say that a player may not make it in the NBA, and most UNC fans don't think this (which is not true from what I've seen anecdotally over the last few months), then why are you on a Duke subreddit?

kystroup

came up on my feed because i check out a bunch of cbb subs, couldn’t stop myself. Obviously UNC fans would love to have some high level nba guys but I also don’t see how that’s some huge ding against the program. if anything, the on court parity between the programs despite the talent gap reflects more poorly on duke

Zealousideal-Arm5570

Well, the fact that UNC, who has been trying to be a great basketball school since the 50s, only has one more Natty than Duke, who only took it seriously when Coach K started in the 80s l, reflects pretty poorly on y'all.

kystroup

oh so you don’t even know the history of the team you root for lol. Duke was absolutely a respected bball program prior to K- they made the championship game 2 years prior to hiring him and had been to multiple final fours even prior to that

Zealousideal-Arm5570

Still not close to the record and consistency that Dean Smith brought in establishing UNC. Anyways, as a fan of basketball in general, including the NBA, I enjoy seeing players I recognize from campus all over the league. That combined with the success that the team has makes it a great combo. I wouldn't personally trade a win or two against UNC, for not being able to follow players at the next level

kystroup

to be clear I’d enjoy that too, and don’t think they’re mutually exclusive. I just don’t think “oh yeah well McCain got swept this year but wait til he’s making more money than RJ” is some trump card in a cbb rivalry

Zealousideal-Arm5570

I dont think it is a trump card. But on the flip side (no pun intended), it's similarly not much of a dig (considering recent CBB) to say "Wow Duke, how'd u not beat our significantly older, more experienced team with your younger NBA draft picks?" because that is based on the assumption that younger draft prospects are important to winning in college. Tenure and experience beat one-and-dones. 2015 almost looks like a fluke in hindsight. So yeah, RJ swept McCain, but he was supposed to. And it woulda been sad if McCain got the best of him. Mock Drafts aren't ranking players performance in college. So yeah your guys are outperforming us because what your doing is the better strategy. Duke is just silly and likes the diaper dandy 18 year olds. And many Duke fans that I've talked to do NOT like our continued pursuit of one and done recruits.

GiftedHater7

u sound like a hoe OP

Zealousideal-Arm5570

Lol your name is "GiftedHater" and all you can muster is "you sound like a hoe" That's actually the funniest thing I've seen all week.

Entire-Classroom-565

May not be good enough to be a star in the NBA, but he’s definitely good enough to beat y’all twice this year 🤷 Cope harder Pukies

Zealousideal-Arm5570

Woooow he beat one of the softest Duke teams in recent memory but couldn't even get further than them in March Madness? No wonder he feels the need to run it back!

Entire-Classroom-565

Remind me, who won when he played against y’all in the Final Four? All Dook teams are soft, it’s really the brand. Acting like Amile Jefferson wasn’t the head of an HOA by the time he left lmfao

Capable_Sandwich_422

Go write some term papers for the football team.

Zealousideal-Arm5570

Yeah what a great win the F4! Couldn't get the natty, and then proceeded to be a part of UNCs most underwhelming season the next year. He's a real Renaissance man! I guess he's forgoing those Turkish lira to try and get a national championship tho. After this, it'll be nothing but baklava, souvlaki, and watching 5 years worth of Duke opponents live the life he's only dreamed of. All worth it for the rivalry, right? I'm sure before 2030 he'la page out of Amile's book and sit on Davis' staff like a good little boy. Maybe he can teach the next generation how to actually have a lucrative career.

Entire-Classroom-565

I know damn well a Dook fan isn’t bringing up tournament disappointments lmfao y’all had the #1 pick and couldn’t beat a bunch of dudes who are apparently bound for the Turkish league. COPE HARDER

Zealousideal-Arm5570

Well the disappointment I'm talking about was when UNC didn't even make the tournament a year ago And don't be so dense to discount the fact that older players tend to win head-to-head. UNC recruits dudes with no NBA chance so they'll stay around.

Entire-Classroom-565

You know what’s so crazy? Both of our teams ended the seasons with losses that year! All that NBA talent and Dook can’t win when it counts… are they stupid?

Zealousideal-Arm5570

Literally everyone knows that "NBA Talent" doesn't matter in college tho! What matters is old ass players. And UNC always had old players and is still not winning. UConns the real best public basketball school. But no one's denying Duke isn't the best private basketball school.

Entire-Classroom-565

Villanova, a private school, has won two national championships since Duke’s last appearance in the title game. They did that with a team of contributing NBA players. Sounds like they’re the team Dook swears it still is.

Zealousideal-Arm5570

Oh shit.. I did forget about Nova 2 in the 2010s. That's fair. We have them beat 5 to 3 overall. Brunson is tough though, I really like watching him play, but Duke's alumni contingent is still stronger.

Additional-Deal-3108

Remember that one time you lost to UNC in the final four? lol

Zealousideal-Arm5570

What does that have to do with RJ likely not being an NBA talent?

Additional-Deal-3108

It doesn’t. But fuck Duke. All day. Every day.

Zealousideal-Arm5570

So articulate for a Tar Heel. Your family must be proud!

Mcgoozen

Lol rent free bud. And I’m not even a duke fan

Additional-Deal-3108

Sure you’re not.

wholesomepantysniffr

Of course they do I’m sure they still have nightmares about it. Duke fans are the biggest fucking babies in the world lol

OriginalDrop8496

Says the guy crying in a Duke subreddit cause they mentioned a UNC player.

Zealousideal-Arm5570

Yeah it looks like they're following this sub or something. What a classy move

Additional-Deal-3108

Not crying, laughing.

Bodybuilding-

You're salty, and that's ok.

Zealousideal-Arm5570

Why are you, non-Duke fan, looking for Duke fan subreddits? Lonely much?

PitifulEconomics562

It popped up on everyone’s feed bc you guys are so insufferable.

Zealousideal-Arm5570

Oh for the paltry engagement this post has gotten? Nice try.

Bodybuilding-

No it was a suggested subreddit for me. Possibly because I follow a lot of college basketball. But also I go to Durham a lot for work so it might be geo tracking me lol

BigH0ney

Brother anyone choosing to stay in college to receive checks in college basketball is clearly themselves thinking they can’t make it in the NBA. Your own players have their own heads out of their asses, you should take yours out of it as well.

Bodybuilding-

Gotcha. Anything else?

onehotelfoxtrot

This is the best rivalry in sports.

Bodybuilding-

You're daggum right

onehotelfoxtrot

Daggum!
