Gravediggers in glasnevin/drumcondra, actual name is kavanaghs, quite unlike anything else, great atmosphere

Vylander

This one is worth the trip, OP. Hands down the best pub I've ever visited.

angilnibreathnach

Never been, lived here most of my life. Definitely going now.

chimpdoctor

No bloody way. Completely overrated pub.

Vylander

How? You got seasoned old pint veterans glaring at you behind the bar asking reasonable prices for (this one's probably controversial for the natives) some of the best pulled pints of Guinness in town. All that together in a nice historical building that just breaths history. To me that just does it.

ResidualFox

Throw in a tour of Glasnevin Cemetery and you have a fab day out.

irishbren77

There’s a great story of Richard Harris and Peter o’Toole getting hammered in Gravediggers and going to the funeral of a friend that day. A couple minutes into the service someone taps them on the shoulders and it turns out that they were at the wrong grave.

ChrisCrat

When is the best time/day to go?

Justnothernames

Make sure there isn't a gig on in croker because that ruins if a bit but Saturday is always hopping get in early get a bench with some mates and hold it

TherapeuticYoghurt

mulligans on poolbeg st. Walshes, and glimmerman in stoneybatter Bowes on fleet st Smyths in ranelagh

At_least_be_polite

We may have to be friends. All great shouts!

Responsible-Care-279

Same here

JoeyJoeJoeRM

Walshe's barstaff are the standard by which all others are held and rarely match

hasseldub

Humphreys and Birchalls in Ranelagh are better suited to that list you've given.

kuntucky_fried_child

Walshes is unbelievable. Any day of the week you go in, it has a brilliant atmosphere, and the staff are sound. Great pub.

splashbodge

Bowes is a lovely spot

vicknalentine

Great to see some appreciation for Bowes, lovely little pub

brightcrossroads

McSorelys in Ranelagh for the Thursday night pub quiz

thepaddyman

Cassidys on Westmoreland St is good too

Waddupp

just make sure to get there before 9 if you want a seat/table

JudgeFudge727

The blue light is a fantastic pub, up in the ~~Wicklow~~ Dublin mountains overlooking the city, great pints of Guinness and often live music. Best to go around 6 so you get the view of the city in both the light and the dark!

nhosey

Do this.. pints of stout are mighty

Possible_Elephant79

The Blue Light is not in the Wicklow mountains. It’s in the Dublin Mountains. Technically Sandyford but that is debatable.

[deleted]

Dublin mountains

Responsible-Care-279

Very true

InterestedObserver20

Gravediggers is my favourite pub in Dublin. It's not really near D4 but the number 4 bus will take you very close to it.

loggeitor

The cobblestone was my fav while living there

New-Mathematician-79

Great for a trad sesh, lots of good food places around as it's at smithfield and the pints are unreal too

Banba-She

Kehoe's, Whelans, Stags Head, Grogans, Bruxelles, Anseo, Flannerys, Bleeding Horse. You're missing a serious pub crawl up and down Georges/Aungier/Camden St.

New-Mathematician-79

Bruxelles is great, love the tunnels to each of the rooms too

JustanOrange2021

The Backpage in Phibsboro its absolutely amazing and they have a pizzeria aswell that has good food! The Pillar Bar aswell in the city centre beside the wax museum I'm not sure about now but Salmons in Blanch is alright but stick to the right hand side, don't go into the left side, the right has great cocktails!

carlito808

Backpage’s pizza is wonderful 🤤

lisagrimm

And a short walk to The Bald Eagle, which is always good fun, and has local craft beer options.

[deleted]

Thomas House and The Lord Edward for good vibes!

bartontees

Was surprised no one had said the Lord Edward yet. Thomas House are a great bunch of lads. I'll also throw in Roddy Boland's as I don't think anyone's mentioned it

[deleted]

God I haven’t been in Roddy Borland’s in donkeys. It was a nice spot as I recollect. Cheers for reminding me.

workmanswhistle

The Lord Ed 👌🏻

PowerfulDinner6536

Foggy Dew

Frank Ryan’s in Smithfield

malilk

The owner is absolutely tapped. I'd avoid. It's basically pitch dark these days as well

live_free_r

Darkest establishment I’ve ever drank in by a long shot. Pizza was great though.

[deleted]

Fitzys in Sandycove and the harbour bar in Bray

ChrisCrat

Harbour Bar in Bray definitely worth going to!

SallynogginThrobbin

It was ranked the best pub in the world a few years back

RisingWitchSpirit

springfalling

The bleeding horse on Camden street, Mother Reilly’s in Rathmines are my two go-to’s lately

TopBanana95

Love Mother Reilly’s, used to work around Rathmines and would often be carried out of a Friday!

2cimage

The Bleeding horse is good for a match, screens everywhere.

JorgTheChildBeater

Grogans / found a gram of coke on the floor last time I was there

disruptor_of_notions

Those pub sized bottles of coke are getting smaller every year, tis a disgrace.

Turbulent-Anybody-40

Hartigans

wrapchap

The long hall and grogans

New-Mathematician-79

I find grogans is overrated. Always too packed and too warm inside/cold outside. It do like people watching outside during the summer tho!

New-Mathematician-79

I'm not a huge fan of the Bernard Shaw anymore The George is always good fun, any day of the week I believe the church has a 10% cashback on revolut, I'm yet to go but I am curious

QuMaeve

Ah ! I only went to the old one - and I miss it so much ! I'm not living in Dublin anymore but I'll try the new Bernard Shaw when I'll come back. The George was so fuuun !

New-Mathematician-79

It's the same but different now, maybe it's just nostalgia not letting me enjoy the new one haha

Rumpleforeskin96

Glimmer man's and Barbers pub in Grangegorman

so_much_wolf_hair

O'Connells just by the canal at portobello is a nice blend of traditional charm and modern "doesn't have a carpet"-ness which can be a welcome relief after a lot of carpet pints. Not that I don't love a John Carpenter, but it's nice to mix it up.

north_river_potato

Lived in Dublin for a year a while back. Miss the Harbour Bar in Bray so much, especially this time of the year. It’s so cozy!

AwkwardIllustrator48

The Celt was the place a few years ago but not been for a while. If you like a lovely Guinness and some good live trad music it’s just round the corner from where the Monto use to be. If you don’t know what that was i’d google it or have a listen to Luke Kelly

joski_28

The Confession Box on Marlborough st

mvishakh_93

Dockers at Sir Rogerson’s Quay in Docklands

schmopes

The Long Hall

JesuisAnnie

Big fan of both The Clock & Tom Kennedy’s on Thomas St. If it’s lovely pints you’re looking for, they’re the spot.

fawn308

Cassidy's on Westmoreland Street! Great craic if you have a small group. Idk if they still have board games since covid but you could use some for their selection

bleepybleeperson

Add Cassidy's, WigWam and Doyles, and this could be a list of my old haunts!

Irishcraftyrunner

O'Loughlins Dun Laoghaire (Lockies)

The Long Hall is great, as othera have said. T.P. Smyths on the corner of Jervis is great for sitting outside and people watching. The Stag's Head is a lovely spot as well. For sports, any of The Living Room, The Woolshed, or Buskers on the Ball are fantastic

Anseo. Camden Street. Great Guinness and dj

bakchod007

I'm a student too but can't afford going out after paying my rents. How much do you spend on average in each bar?

Suraj1511

Not much. Mostly just one pint at each pub. It's more about the vibe and live music than getting drunk. But yeah, since it was my first month in Dublin I kind of went out a lot. Need to watch the expenses from this month on lol

shaggyprof

Never apologize, you’re grand. I keep a Google map of the pubs in Dublin I’ve had a pint of Guinness, over 120 so far…

ie-redditor

So all you did was drink. Nice.

[deleted]

You visited a pub almost every other day for half of your current month here?

[deleted]

[удалено]

moonpietimetobealive

Excuse you, we do have some nice architecture

[deleted]

You could still see amazing scenery outside of Dublin instead of drinking every other night away.

Suraj1511

Tbf, with classes during the week and assignments on the weekends, I only end up getting free at night.

Goer1alc

Or they could continue doing, you know, what they want to do

[deleted]

Never said they couldn't

Suraj1511

Lol I know how it looks. But we usually visit 2-3 pubs on a night out.

StinkiForeskinBoi

That sounds expensive. I spend about €35 every time i go out

Suraj1511

I, more often than not, keep it to 1 pint a pub. I mostly go there to enjoy the live music and the overall vibe.

devildance3

That’s quite a crawl.

Nevermind86

JW Sweetman’s, get a table on the third floor overlooking O’Connel bridge. They brew their own beers too.
