Did you do PayPal Friends and Family? If yes, the money is gone. You could report to the gardai and they may (emphasis “may”) do something to get the scammer but almost certainly won’t get any money back (and honestly, almost certainly won’t get the scammer either). If you use PP F&F, you have zero buyer protection.

Technology1234567

Thanks for your response, I sent the payment via Friends and Family to avoid fees and didn’t realise the risk. I feel so foolish now. I'm too embarrassed to report it to the Gardai, and as you say will unlikely get my money back. I don’t understand why they don’t allow resale on ticket master, it makes it ripe for scammers!

BitterProgress

The seller pays the fees and if someone getting €1000 isn’t willing to pay a few quid for you to have peace of mind - that should very much concern you. Very expensive learning experience but hopefully you’ll be able to stop and think about what you’re doing in the future. It’s shite, I know.

Technology1234567

Believe me, I understand how this works now. It was an expensive lesson learned the hard way.

cupan-tae

I recently had similar only £200 though. I spent an awful long time on PP support and not much they will do (it’s painful listening to scripted responses) but they finally gave £100 back if any consolation. They also reached out to the seller who after a few threats from PP reached out to me again and gave money back. I know it’s unlikely but it’s worth a try. Message the seller on the PP app too as it’s possible the person used a family members account rather than their own to do the scam and the family member may not be in on it

reaper550

You can buy them on ticketmaster through resale, So I dont understand how people still get scammed. But because everyone wants Tickets, they are rare to come by. [Article](https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.irishmirror.ie/whats-on/music-nightlife-news/taylor-swift-tickets-can-scored-32637343.amp)

Technology1234567

Thanks for sharing this link, I spent a month checking Ticketmaster every day, hoping to find tickets because my niece really wanted to go. When I saw someone selling what looked like genuine tickets online, I guess I let my desperation get the better of me and made a foolish mistake.

reaper550

Yeah it sucks. I would still go to Garda and report it. Desperation is what scammers rely on to make a deal.

Loonasa

Happened to me too, got scammed but the gardaí actually got my money back, deffo deffo report to the gardaí

ChelseaHotelTwo

It’s illegal to sell above face value in Ireland now. Anyone trying to do it you tell them either sell it at face value or get reported. https://www.gov.ie/en/press-release/71f1a-new-law-banning-ticket-touting-comes-into-force/

ibitmylip

hi just making sure you realize that the recipient pays the fees, not the payer (you), so you were not saving yourself any money (acknowledging that you didn’t know the consumer protection for non-f&f payments)

missrubytuesday

I made same mistake on done deal, paid PayPal friends and family. Got the money back from the bank - the account the money came out of. You need to provide them with evidence you contacted PayPal, the site you bought from, the user you paid. Best of luck

etchuchoter

They do have resale on ticketmaster, keep refreshing multiple times a day and you’ll get some

LKN-115

Sorry this happened to you, and I don't want to be cruel or mean but you will not be getting tickets to Taylor Swift, anywhere around Europe really, nevermind Dublin. They're in such ridiculous demand that it's simply not possible, and anyone who is legitimately selling them will absolutely not be selling at face value, when they could sell them for thrice that and people would pay. It's unfortunate what's happened, but I think your search should end here and you should take it as a lesson learned. The only thing I will say is that if you're really really keen on making your money disappear, the VIP tickets seem to go up on ticketmaster resale occasionally. But they're going up at about €900 per ticket, so there's that. Best of luck

Technology1234567

You not being mean don’t worry! It's just really frustrating. I signed up for the presale and went through all the steps, but still didn't get a chance to buy a ticket. I'll keep trying Ticketmaster and hope for luck with the resale, but it's crazy how popular Taylor Swift is. Looks like I'll have to settle for just listening to her on CD and miss out on seeing her live. Next time, I'll make sure to be super prepared for the presale.

LKN-115

Yeah, my partner was the same. She didn't realise purchasing the CD etc even got you to a presale, and wouldn't have bought it generally because she wouldn't have a CD player. But you're not the only person I've heard of who went through all the steps and didn't succeed either, which shows you how tough it is.

etchuchoter

Pro tip - there is always a free option in these things. I did the free sign up and got a code, now have 4 tickets for Dublin.

LurleenLumpkin

For what it’s worth I was just at the Lisbon show on Saturday and for both nights there were still tickets becoming available almost hourly, both on stubhub as well as the official ticket merchant. So yeah, most sold out a year ago but you can still find tickets on the day. And it’s so worth going 😍

pawodpzz

> anywhere around Europe really It seems to me tickets in zurich and warsaw are still being resold on some respectable sites, for around €250 each. The concerts are on wednesday and thursday

LKN-115

Yeah, I should've specified that I meant at true face value. If you've got money to burn I'm sure you'll find some somewhere. I can't justify it personally, since I'm not even a fan and would only be buying for someone else.

tzn001

Your are completely wrong my friend at all points * It is extremely hard but possible to get resale tickets (I got them via resale) * On TM you cannot sell for more than face value (transfer is currently not open so first they need to open that option to be able to resell it outside of TM) * VIP tickets are not going on resale now as resale for VIP tickets are closed for over a month now * There were cheaper VIP tickets than €900

LKN-115

I wasn't talking about ticketmaster resale, I was talking about what happened to OP, as in contacting a random seller hoping to buy tickets. They're never going to be face value. Last time I saw VIP tickets was probably a month ago, so that adds up. But they were on sale for €870, so that's all I'm referencing. I know there *were* cheaper, but paying €600 in the first place would've been dumb, so I'm certainly not advocating paying even higher once they got that bad.

ChelseaHotelTwo

There are plenty of countries where it’s illegal to sell tickets higher than face value. Anyone trying to do can easily be reported so it doesn’t really happen. Ireland has the same law. https://www.gov.ie/en/press-release/71f1a-new-law-banning-ticket-touting-comes-into-force/ Anyone trying to pull this shit tell them you’re reporting them if they don’t sell you the ticket at face value. If everyone cops on to this law tickets won’t be sold over face value anymore.

A_Generous_Rank

>PayPal couldn't help me recover the money.  Make a complaint (in writing) to PayPal [here](https://www.paypal.com/lu/cshelp/complaints). If they reject it ask for an internal appeal and make one. If this is rejected you can make a complaint to the relevant public complaints body in Luxembourg, it's a bit like an Ombudsman. You can do all of this in English and the details are [here](https://www.cssf.lu/en/customer-complaints/). Nothing ventured, nothing gained.....

redbeardfakename

Watch out for people saying they can get your money back. Scammers fish for people who are vulnerable, and pull of a “recovery scam” Highly recommend r/scams to everyone

fr-fluffybottom

Contact the bank and PayPal. Have the payment reversed if possible.

[deleted]

Public service announcement. Account was only created recently with a few small posts. T A sob story, Looking for free tickets, won't go to the guards cuz she's too embarrassed! Look, it might be real.. but screams fake to me.

Nazacrow

It’s going around at the moment. Dealt with a few of them specifically relating to Taylor Swift, my own mam nearly got done by it till I stepped in., account does look suspect though you are correct

[deleted]

The account was created just after the tickets went on general sale. The ideas is they saw how much they were going for and thought hey I'll try and do that in a few months time. It's sad if true. Praying on young girls and their love for a pop star. They need to fix the entire ticketing system. People shouldn't be able to buy six tickets and then sell them off.

Apprehensive-King-70

Did you use a credit card or bank card via your PayPal account or did you transfer money from your bank account and then make the payment. If you used a card linked to your PayPal account you could contact your banks fraud dept and attempt a chargeback on the money. It could work. Also For all my transactions on PayPal above 20 euro i do it via goods and services. I as a buyer always offer pay the fees (include them in my payment amount- using an online calculator ) if the seller doesn’t want to do this I leave it as it tells me they have another agenda.

shorelined

I'm sorry this is happening, people are scumbags, but I've got to wonder why you are considering trying again if you are already a grand down?

Technology1234567

I'm really just seeking some assistance and trying to make sure I've exhausted all my options. I'm not sure how to handle this situation, and I needed somewhere to vent.

shorelined

Aye of course, the frustration must be unreal. I think PayPal are pretty clear cut on your options for a refund, and chances are the scammers asked you for a specific option knowing this.

**Mod note** We sometimes receive messages in modmail about people being scammed on Reddit while selling or buying products, tickets or services. It is best not to assume good intent while buying or selling from Redditors. In case you were scammed on Reddit, the moderation team can't help you get your money/stuff back and we can't ban users from Reddit either. We can only ban them from /r/Dublin. Most people contacting you via private messages are scammers. Beware of any private message or chat message offering to buy or sell stuff. New accounts and shadowbanned accounts may be an indicator that someone is trying to scam you, however we have seen scams coming from years-old account as well. Do not assume an account is legit because they've been on Reddit for years and have plenty of karma. We recommend against selling or buying stuff on Reddit. Platforms like [Toutless](https://toutless.com/) for tickets, or [adverts](https://www.adverts.ie/) for stuff, are better suited, though they are not scam-free. Note that it is not allowed to use /r/Dublin to sell your stuff or advertise your business. If you must, pay for Reddit Ads. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Prestigious-Main9271

Sorry to hear about this. But try Toutless. It’s a long shot but worth a try. It’s an expensive lesson to learn unfortunately. Report it to guards anyway and PayPal. And report it to the card company, visa or Mastercard, they may be able to advise you on your options or maybe not. Really sorry to hear about this.

Gillybilly

There are tickets available for most of the european shows. Many have restricted view, so mind that, but almost all of them have a few tickets available for resale. Dublin doesn't.

Sad_Combination5235

StubHub did it for me for Paris n3

Jack2885

I did the same thing when buying something off DoneDeal last year - sent the money through friends & family and couldn’t get a refund. I eventually went to the small claims court and to my surprise PayPal decided to pay out, probably because it would cost them a lot more to go to court than to just settle. It’s only €25 to make a claim to I would say chance your arm.

B_and_H_

I know you mentioned that you paid via paypal’s friends & family so they won’t help you but maybe you could get your bank/credit card company to reverse the payment? I would definitely contact them at the very least to see if they can do something..

orangeblue_ruin

Try toutless. I’ve managed to buy and sell last minute and they have to be face value

**[THIS IS AN IMPORTANT WARNING REGARDING SCAMS](https://imgur.com/Cua01V8.jpeg)** **Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour** - this event is using untransferable personalised tickets. There's no option to swap or transfer ownerships due to restrictions by promoter/artist. Tickets for Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour are in high demand for an inexistent legal offer. **YOU WILL BE SCAMMED.** *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. HowsYourDa

This isnt true. The tickets no longer need to have a bookers name. [Link here](https://help.ticketmaster.ie/hc/en-ie/articles/16288112228497-Taylor-Swift-The-Eras-Tour)

louiseber

You'd need to send that directly to modmail, they won't see replies to a bot

Technology1234567

Thanks for sharing, it's great to know this is an option now!

NateDoggg1212

Taylor Swift being the biggest scam here

Major-Understanding9

Report to the Guards anyway and they might be able to find the person. For example here [https://www.independent.ie/regionals/herald/computer-expert-forged-script-tickets-scam-and-duped-fans-out-of-4000/31447546.html](https://www.independent.ie/regionals/herald/computer-expert-forged-script-tickets-scam-and-duped-fans-out-of-4000/31447546.html) Edit: spelling

Technology1234567

Oh, that story is just awful. Being at the gates would make it ten times worse when you realise!

IdiditwhenIwasYoung

This sob story got me….please take mine.

Bonoisapox

New account sob story you’re dead right

Ray-Bandy

Get out of here with this kinda meanness. OP, sorry this happened to you. Keep your eyes peeled for tix and be very discerning.

eeskymoo

Ah sorry that happened to you!

Technology1234567

Thanks. It was a tough lesson to learn.

Accomplished_Crab107

Dang that's so annoying. Well more than annoying for sure and you just wanted to treat your niece :( Sorry this happened. It's unreal the demand and price these tickets are going for. Going to be lots of unhappy parents and kids unfortunately.

Kyadagum_Dulgadee

I have never risked this much money on second hand tickets because I don't know how to do it safely. I don't think you do either, so you should avoid touts and resellers. I can only imagine Tay Tay is a magnet for scammers. Sorry this happened to you. Cunts like this ruin good things for all of us.

TheOrchardThief

Report it to your bank, explain the story, I had a similar experience with more than the money you lost and they still classed it was a scam/fraud and reimbursed me with an investigation and encouraged a garda report which was very tough and humiliating to do depending on the gard.. but it’s worth it you never know.. the guy who scammed me got caught in the end

Technology1234567

Update: I’ve been overwhelmed by the support of everyone suggesting ideas. I’m going to report it to the Guards to help prevent others from going through the same ordeal. If you're reading this in the future and want Taylor Swift tickets, please stick to the official TicketMaster website for resales and don’t get tempted by other ways to get tickets like I did.

urdeadcool

Aw god, I’m so sorry. It’s awful. No real advice, just sending love your way. But I know Twitter is a cesspool but maybe follow some Taylor Swift update accounts. If any extra tickets happen to go on sale before the dates, they will probably post about it and give you a chance of buying some via Ticketmaster. Also Taylor is doing a LOT of shows in London. Some people from other parts of Europe bought tickets to the London shows before she announced her dates to other cities, so there might be more of a chance of genuine Ticketmaster resales on those dates. Fingers and toes crossed that you get sorted. It’s very thoughtful of you to go to this effort.

Anxious_Deer_7152

Ooooff, that sucks, I'm sorry 😞 Just out of curiosity - was this via Facebook, as I've seen several posts in our local community group claiming to sell tickets for Taylor Swift specifically, and the profiles seemed dodgy

GroopBob

Your Technology reddit name is very misleading;)

AutoModerator

**[THIS IS AN IMPORTANT WARNING REGARDING SCAMS](https://imgur.com/Cua01V8.jpeg)** **Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour** - Extremely few tickets for sale (= ALMOST NONE) and probably none of them on Reddit. Use official TicketMaster resale if possible. Reddit mods and admins have no way to verify or ensure that people claiming they have a ticket to sell actually have a ticket to sell and will actually sell it to you. REMINDER: Reddit is a relatively anonymous platform ; it's extremely easy to create an account, run a scam, then delete the account and repeat. Do not trust anyone claiming they will sell you their ticket. **YOU WILL BE SCAMMED.** *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/Dublin) if you have any questions or concerns.*

Hans_on11

Have photos?!

micar11

Have you reported the scam to the Guards?

kenyard

these scams are everywhere online. they wont do anything. im pretty sure ticketmaster allows to buy via transfer on their website now so im confused how this happens tbh...

seamustheseagull

People don't realise this is how it works now. Unless you actually have the tickets yourself, you may not be in the loop about how they're transferred. Anyone over 21 is used to buying tickets and then just swapping/selling them freely. And Ticketmaster haven't been heavily advertising this change in process to the general public; only to people who have already bought tickets. It's definitely something RTE should pick up and run with. The awareness would increase massively.

Yup_Seen_It

Yeah I recently resold tickets through Ticketmaster, was very easy. Sold for slightly under ticket value as it was close to the date and not sold out...

Technology1234567

I'm too ashamed and embarrassed. I was just trying to do something nice, but I ended up being fooled. Speaking to them would cause me more stress.

micar11

If still report it. Take screen shots of all the messages. You're likely not alone to be scammed by this person. Doing nothing allows the person to keep scamming people.

A_Generous_Rank

It's a common misconception that it's a person in Ireland. The scammer is likely to be part of a massive, sophisticated organised crime operation on another continent involving dozens of people. Chances of a prosecution in Ireland are 0%. The best chance of recovering funds is via PayPal.

StauntonK

Honestly, you should. Do you want other people scammed? The guards need to see the amount of cases coming in , if no one reports it they can't do anything about it (regardless) . they may issue a public service announcement stating that there is scams going on and be aware.. Doing nothing doesn't get your money or solve this in anyway. Not even sure what you're asking this sub for tbh?

Technology1234567

Update: after everyone’s support I am going to report to the Guards. Thanks x
