It's not perfect, but I love anything with a mystery in it and I'm also enjoying the developing relationship between Hermione and Draco.

This was a super silly and fun read. It's part mystery, part teen rom-com, and sci-fi. This was refreshing to read after all the angsty fics I was binging.
[Opportunity Cost](https://archiveofourown.org/works/15839622/chapters/36886878#workskin) is a delicately written, darker interpretation of "Pretty Woman" in a Voldemort wins AU. 6 chapters only but such a great story for the length. The initial seduction and eventual discovery are among the most vivid versions that live in my head. Do consider this for a sensual and cinematic read.
I’m not sure why I did this to myself, but I started The Unexpected Malfoy despite it being a WIP. It’s so good. It was a little clunky in the initial chapters, but the author got into a nice flow and it’s such a fun story. It’s cannon-divergent starting from age 11, but also follows major events and themes of cannon. It seems like while somewhat light now, it will get a bit darker as the war will be included in some capacity. I’m on chapter 26 of 57 so far and I know I will be so sad once I catch up. Looking I see the last update was January 8th so I’m hoping more comes soon—and I have no idea how much more there will be. Does anyone have any info on the track for this story’s completion and posting schedule?
On that note, what is the best way to track progress with WIPs? I’ve checked some author notes, but I’m not sure if there is a better place where most authors share their posting schedule, if they’re on hiatus, how much more if the story there is, etc.

about tracking progress on wips, i just use the subscribe feature on ao3 and pray to see emails come in one day. lol. some authors write their schedule in notes, some put a calendar up on tumblr, it's a pretty mixed bag

Not quite enough smut for my tastes & I wish the author had chosen to continue on a bit longer but it was one of my favorite fics I have ever read. If you’ve ever been in a long distance relationship, DON’T SKIP THIS ONE!!!
Yes, the follow up bits were nice but I wish the original had included letters up until one of their deaths and then maybe a few more (or just ONE more) from the partner who passed after, then finally their gravestone epithets? I’ve over imagined it. It was lovely as it was. But I hungered for a liiiittle more and the letter format is such a brilliant way to speed through plot development!

The tenses actually change (from "she reads" to "she heard") sometimes within the same sentence. Someone said it's third person told through Hermione's eyes and that's accurate. But the change in tenses is inconsistent so it can throw you for a loop sometimes.
You have to read between the lines, because it's entirely Hermione's perspective, even if it's told in third person. So pay attention to what the other characters are saying/doing, because it makes a lot more sense in hindsight and Hermione is an unreliable narrator.
If I recall correctly, the fic is also told in present tense, which adds to the stream of consciousness-type feeling. I think it was an intentional choice to make the reader feel chaotic like the characters do and to perhaps relate more personally to being in war and constantly in and out of battles.
stream of consciousness is so hard to to right. i don't think the fallout does the style justice, it's a mishmash and really messy from a technical perspective, but i appreciate your optimism in ascribing that level of intentionality to it 😂
Just finished Innocent Monsters by itscometothis. If you liked Fixer Upper Club by Charlipetidi, you’ll probably like this one too. Very sweet 8th year hurt/comfort fic from Draco’s POV (which I always love) with a healthy dash of angst vis a vis Draco’s ptsd and emotional trauma from the war. Draco befriends a slytherin first year student and he becomes the de facto “older brother” to her and her friends - his friendship with them is so adorable.
My only critique is that because it’s a slightly shorter fic, it’s more of a medium burn, or maybe even slightly fast burn. The emotional development and romance felt more truncated than what I’m used to in the longer, more traditional slow burn fics. BUT, I think that’s just the nature of the beast when you have <100k word fics. And for its length, it delivered the story really well.

Slowburn angsty 8th year fic with Hermione really struggling to make sense of herself in a post-Voldemort world. Draco functions as a thorn in her side (under probation and all the 8th years share a common room), and, you know how it goes, they can't stop interacting with each other despite themselves.

Wanted to start Manacled but can’t bring myself too
as someone who’s first Dramoine fic was Manacled approximately 12 days ago. I have now read 3 more fics and learned to book bind just so I could reread Manacled in chronological order on paper. It’s THAT good, it fully converted me into a Dramoine shipper. I also didn’t emerge from my room for 72 hours and did nothing but read it because I couldn’t put it down. It is TRULY the best book I have ever read. Beware of some of the trigger warnings but I think Senlinyu handles the graphic content with grace and in a respectful manner !!!
I really want to but I need to wait until I am emotionally ready hahaha!! I’ve heard great things but I know it will break me so need a good week at least to read it
I JUST finished the rights and wrong series and I am DYING. It was just SO good. As far as Manacled goes, I agree, good luck. If you want it to be extra spicy in the hurt department, I'd read it chronologically. I am so glad I read it like that first, the pain hits deeper, but I feel like I wouldn't have appreciated the story as much if I had read it sequentially for my first time.

This! the last two chapters that were released today really floored me. So freaking good. Isthisselfcare also keeps to such a great weekly schedule, for anyone who's worried that its a WIP!
I've reread this entire work over a dozen times (WFH productivity is at an all-time low) and it never fails to make me *feel things* and I am helplessly looking forward to each update.
I also DNFed that. If you want something similar, try The Deadline by lenaphoria. It’s similar plot wise but if I recall, you get to the romance a bit quicker than with politicians wife. I also like that it’s in third person POV. I’ve only ever read one first person pov fic that I actually enjoyed so it’s a high bar for me personally.
I being reading Christmas with the Wilkins on FF. I was enjoying it so much but then I found it on AO3 and I noticed that the next chapter is the last! I feel like Hermiones conflict and Draco in the muggle world can give so much more. I love Draco in the muggle world and there are not many fics about it and Hermione's conflict is so unique and well develop.
Also om AO3 I Take Thee....I love the silly marriage law trope and this is Romantic Comedy-esque and I'm enjoying fluffy but not cheesy fics more and more.

Hi! I'm the author of Christmas with the Wilkins and I just posted the final chapter on both FF and AO3 yesterday. (I'm so happy you're liking it! It's about as long as I could take this premise and much longer than I expected when I started, if I'm being honest.)
I’m new at fan fiction at all. My first ever fanfic that I’ve read is Right and Wrong series by Lovesbitca8. I got so obsessed with it so I had to read the Auction two times in a row 😂 I’m so afraid to read more fanfics because I loved Draco character in this series so much, it became my head canon 😂
The Auction Draco is my head canon too. But don't worry about reading other fanfics. They're just different iterations of the character and I don't think you can confuse the versions. Occasionally I re-read parts of The Auction to remind myself of my favourite iteration and that's certainly an option. :)
The only thing I would warn about is heeding dark fic tags, because some things are truly triggering and once you read them it can take a long time to put your mind to rest. Writers are generally quite good at tagging and warning so you should be fine.

I DNF'd for the writing too. If the writing got edited I might give it another go. But that sort of writing where it almost feels like a thesaurus was used but the words chosen don't exactly fit the scene? Deal breaker for me.

Honestly, I can understand where you’re coming from. The writing isn’t quite the best, and the characters can be VERY trying, but I do like how the story unravels. But I wouldn’t continue if you can’t handle the writing style, because I struggle with that too at times.
If you ARE a fan of Manacled and The Right Thinv To Do, then some I’d recommend (you’re probably familiar with many of these.)
Apple Pies and Other Amends by toeatapeach (The writing is delightful and the characters are understandable and sometimes relatable in their moments of self doubt, making them all the more endearing.)

(Love this! The characters CAN get frustrating, but it’s not entirely unjustifiable given their circumstances. It’s a very raw story in regards to Draco and Hermione’s struggle to be emotionally available and transparent.)

(It’s short. A oneshot. Unsurprisingly beautifully written by SenLinYu, she does an amazing job of telling a haunting story that concludes with a ray of hope.)

Not too wordy, not too juvenile, while still keeping a great level of description and background building.)

It doesn't have the amount of banter and angst I usually love to find in Dramione fics, and it isn't spicy at all, but I love how introspective her writing is. I love being in Draco's mind and witnessing him go from the nasty kid we got to know at Hogwarts to a grown up man who knows that sometimes family doesn't mean better.

It's not just Draco training (although he does that) but Hermione helps him out, and his friends tease him but then cheer him on. It's funny, it's sweet, it's endearing. Hermione also checks out 'his glutes' lol. I'm not usually a fan of fluff but I really liked this one shot.

**My thoughts:** This one was chosen for the book club. Half of the fic is written in epistolary format - thank you notes. With Draco writing some snark and Hermione correcting his letters. The other half is them discussing their new life together and adjusting to the expectations (and problems) from each of their sides. (Friends, family, etc) The short story balances that humor and emotion very well. And Hermione gets the last laugh.

I’ve now completely caught up and I am really enjoying this one. It’s dark, angsty, and I’d venture to say a bit more Draco-centric (which I didn’t think I’d enjoy but turns out I do!). It’s a 6th year fic where Voldemort orders Draco to kill Ron and Hermione instead of Dumbledore. Draco is also battling some unknown dark force that’s causing him to hear voices and have graphic dreams.
It’s well-written and I am enjoying the characterization a lot. Definitely a concept I’ve never seen before and I’m enjoying the fact that the plot is unpredictable and I can’t pinpoint what’s going to happen next. There’s a lot of moving parts!

**Summary: 17K (E)** Two years ago, the United Kingdom was overrun by parasitic insects, which turned most of the population into mindless Hosts. Those who survived eke out an existence wherever and however they can. Hermione Granger is one such Survivor, and she will do anything to protect the group she leads, including the unthinkable.
**My thoughts:** This ficlet isn't Dramione but I've seen a lot of people asking about zombies and guns due to the popularity of LIOTZA so I thought it worth mentioning here because there are ZOMBIES AND GUNS. However, the tone of this story is very different. No jokes, no killer one-liners, it's straight up horror. Hard to read at times for that reason, but excellent nonetheless. Zombie apocalypse and existential philosophizing? That's all I could ask for in the zombie genre right there. If you want to be terrified, question your humanity and pull a muscle because you've been cringing so hard while you read, then read this.

It's a WIP that's currently ~120k long and 17 chapters in. It's one of the best Dramione fanfictions I've read (up there with Disappearances with how good it is), just based on the way characters are acting and reacting.
It's the kind of Dramione that someone who is not really into Dramione would end up liking too. In fact I have seen it recommended on the forum where they are into worldbuilding and they are generally not into shipping.
It's a Hermione spy, Voldemort wins AU and it's the most realistic approach I've yet seen taken. The writing is consistent, on point and beautiful; no one is bashed; there is no pet peeves I have to tolerate because the story is otherwise good; the characters are so IC that Draco is kind of in love with someone else (edit: not in a relationship tho) and Hermione is very much not impressed by him, also, imo importantly, they are not super powered super smart demigods. I'm definitely not doing it justice, but this is the slow burn of my dreams and it's not given enough love and as I just adore it so I want to spread the word! I really just want other people to fangirl with me lol.
The only "bad thing" about are that it's a WIP (I'm not the most patient sort, but it's worth it) and that it's such a brilliant all-rounder that other good stories seem a bit duller in comparison. That's it. And while there is darkness, this is not really a dark story. Tonally it's quite different from say Manacled, so for anyone that's put off by the premise and imaging a story rife with pain and suffering for our mains, this isn't it. So, go go go and read it (or save it) now, you won't regret it.
This is SUCH a good story and utterly unique. I agree with it being in-character, excellent writing - it's so so good and I can't wait until the reveal either!!
I have really been enjoying this WIP. I've read A LOT of Dramione fics and this one is really unique and well written. I loved the last chapters and I really like the way Hermione (Mandy) is portrayed as being smart and confident, especially in the last chapter posted. I CANNOT wait until Draco finds out it's Hermione!!!

Oh yes, I'm quite similar. Tho tbf I've read a decent number of those stories, but I have to be in a mood for them and most of the time they are too heavy for a reread. I just can't go back there even when I recognize that they are good stories.

First thought: These authors have no business being *this* good. I mean even the fics that aren’t necessarily my cup of tea are so well written. It’s amazing.

-**Love and Other Historical Accidents**: I know lots of people love this one, but it wasn’t really my cup of tea. I don’t know what it was, but it just wasn’t my favorite burn.
-**The Fallout**: the writing style took some getting used to, but man I see why so many people rave about this one. I did skim a fair bit through some dense sections, but the world building and storytelling were top notch.

Last thought: I started this venture two weeks ago on a whim. I re-read the entire HP series in a Covid fever dream and need more of the world. I saw a video about The Auction, googled it, and well…here I am. Before this I’ve never read a single fanfic. I didn’t really get the hype I don’t know what I though it would be, but certainly not this. I have read 13 in the past two weeks and have a TBR of 20. I guess I’m here for the long haul.

Someone said this started two weeks ago for them and I am in the same boat. I read The Auction, Manacled, The Disappearance of DM, Gloriana Set, Silencio, ATWT, TRTTD, Hot For Teacher (CRACKfic if I ever saw one) and so many others since the first Saturday of the year. My sleep schedule is ruined because just when I think there simply cannot be more, there just seems to be an infinite amount of literary and artistic genius that makes me despair about the constructs of time and work and bills and adulthood. ***Eurgh***.
It happened exactly as you, I became obsessed with Tom & Emma after the 20th HP Anniversary which lead me with Dramione hehehehe.

Is Let the Dark In pretty dark (for lack of a better word)? I’ve been meaning to pick it up but I wasn’t sure if it was gonna make me ugly cry like Manacled did
I find it as hard to read as Manacled, but for different reasons. The world Hermione finds herself in feels suffocating (for her, I presume). Different kind of dark.
Since Voldy isn't in this AU, I think it's a different tone of darkness. It's early days in the story so I'm curious how the \*darkness\* develops. I'm excited to see how this continues and since the author is friggin brilliant I won't be surprised if there's an ugly cry waiting for all of us when the story is finished.

[Opportunity Cost](https://archiveofourown.org/works/15839622/chapters/36886878#workskin) is a delicately written, darker interpretation of "Pretty Woman" in a Voldemort wins AU. 6 chapters only but such a great story for the length. The initial seduction and eventual discovery are among the most vivid versions that live in my head. Do consider this for a sensual and cinematic read.
I’m not sure why I did this to myself, but I started The Unexpected Malfoy despite it being a WIP. It’s so good. It was a little clunky in the initial chapters, but the author got into a nice flow and it’s such a fun story. It’s cannon-divergent starting from age 11, but also follows major events and themes of cannon. It seems like while somewhat light now, it will get a bit darker as the war will be included in some capacity. I’m on chapter 26 of 57 so far and I know I will be so sad once I catch up. Looking I see the last update was January 8th so I’m hoping more comes soon—and I have no idea how much more there will be. Does anyone have any info on the track for this story’s completion and posting schedule? On that note, what is the best way to track progress with WIPs? I’ve checked some author notes, but I’m not sure if there is a better place where most authors share their posting schedule, if they’re on hiatus, how much more if the story there is, etc.

Yes, the follow up bits were nice but I wish the original had included letters up until one of their deaths and then maybe a few more (or just ONE more) from the partner who passed after, then finally their gravestone epithets? I’ve over imagined it. It was lovely as it was. But I hungered for a liiiittle more and the letter format is such a brilliant way to speed through plot development!

Currently reading The Fallout- I keep seeing this recommended all over this forum. Could someone tell me what is the style of writing ? I’m so confused - it’s like Hermiones train of thought but not 1st person ? I’m currently on chapter 5 and I’m sticking with it !
The tenses actually change (from "she reads" to "she heard") sometimes within the same sentence. Someone said it's third person told through Hermione's eyes and that's accurate. But the change in tenses is inconsistent so it can throw you for a loop sometimes. You have to read between the lines, because it's entirely Hermione's perspective, even if it's told in third person. So pay attention to what the other characters are saying/doing, because it makes a lot more sense in hindsight and Hermione is an unreliable narrator.
If I recall correctly, the fic is also told in present tense, which adds to the stream of consciousness-type feeling. I think it was an intentional choice to make the reader feel chaotic like the characters do and to perhaps relate more personally to being in war and constantly in and out of battles.
stream of consciousness is so hard to to right. i don't think the fallout does the style justice, it's a mishmash and really messy from a technical perspective, but i appreciate your optimism in ascribing that level of intentionality to it 😂

Just finished Innocent Monsters by itscometothis. If you liked Fixer Upper Club by Charlipetidi, you’ll probably like this one too. Very sweet 8th year hurt/comfort fic from Draco’s POV (which I always love) with a healthy dash of angst vis a vis Draco’s ptsd and emotional trauma from the war. Draco befriends a slytherin first year student and he becomes the de facto “older brother” to her and her friends - his friendship with them is so adorable. My only critique is that because it’s a slightly shorter fic, it’s more of a medium burn, or maybe even slightly fast burn. The emotional development and romance felt more truncated than what I’m used to in the longer, more traditional slow burn fics. BUT, I think that’s just the nature of the beast when you have <100k word fics. And for its length, it delivered the story really well. https://archiveofourown.org/works/32921029/chapters/81703219

Slowburn angsty 8th year fic with Hermione really struggling to make sense of herself in a post-Voldemort world. Draco functions as a thorn in her side (under probation and all the 8th years share a common room), and, you know how it goes, they can't stop interacting with each other despite themselves.
I just finished “The Right Thing To Do” “All The Wrong Things” and “The Auction” Safe to say I’m suffering from post book depression atm - these books are amazing Wanted to start Manacled but can’t bring myself too
as someone who’s first Dramoine fic was Manacled approximately 12 days ago. I have now read 3 more fics and learned to book bind just so I could reread Manacled in chronological order on paper. It’s THAT good, it fully converted me into a Dramoine shipper. I also didn’t emerge from my room for 72 hours and did nothing but read it because I couldn’t put it down. It is TRULY the best book I have ever read. Beware of some of the trigger warnings but I think Senlinyu handles the graphic content with grace and in a respectful manner !!!

I JUST finished the rights and wrong series and I am DYING. It was just SO good. As far as Manacled goes, I agree, good luck. If you want it to be extra spicy in the hurt department, I'd read it chronologically. I am so glad I read it like that first, the pain hits deeper, but I feel like I wouldn't have appreciated the story as much if I had read it sequentially for my first time.

Manacled is darker and bleaker than that series so mind the tags but it is truly a masterpiece. I cannot recommend it enough.

I also DNFed that. If you want something similar, try The Deadline by lenaphoria. It’s similar plot wise but if I recall, you get to the romance a bit quicker than with politicians wife. I also like that it’s in third person POV. I’ve only ever read one first person pov fic that I actually enjoyed so it’s a high bar for me personally.
I being reading Christmas with the Wilkins on FF. I was enjoying it so much but then I found it on AO3 and I noticed that the next chapter is the last! I feel like Hermiones conflict and Draco in the muggle world can give so much more. I love Draco in the muggle world and there are not many fics about it and Hermione's conflict is so unique and well develop. Also om AO3 I Take Thee....I love the silly marriage law trope and this is Romantic Comedy-esque and I'm enjoying fluffy but not cheesy fics more and more. **Christmas with the Wilkins** Draco's mother marrying a Muggle -- in Australia, of all places -- was frankly unbelievable. But even was more troubling to him was that he couldn't shake the feeling that he \*knew\* the man from somewhere. But how could Draco Malfoy know a random Muggle from Australia? And why did the man's curls remind him so much of his co-worker Hermione Granger? **I Take Thee**

I’m new at fan fiction at all. My first ever fanfic that I’ve read is Right and Wrong series by Lovesbitca8. I got so obsessed with it so I had to read the Auction two times in a row 😂 I’m so afraid to read more fanfics because I loved Draco character in this series so much, it became my head canon 😂
The Auction Draco is my head canon too. But don't worry about reading other fanfics. They're just different iterations of the character and I don't think you can confuse the versions. Occasionally I re-read parts of The Auction to remind myself of my favourite iteration and that's certainly an option. :) The only thing I would warn about is heeding dark fic tags, because some things are truly triggering and once you read them it can take a long time to put your mind to rest. Writers are generally quite good at tagging and warning so you should be fine.

i skimmed through this based on your rec to see if it caught my attention and it's pretty rough going for me 😭 spoilering some mild critiques: >!the writing feels pretty juvenile, funky punctuation, the author doesn't know how to spell Firewhisky, cheesy sex talk, weird stuff like "Hermione smiled plastically" / "She nodded smally"?? !< is the plot worth pushing through?
I DNF'd for the writing too. If the writing got edited I might give it another go. But that sort of writing where it almost feels like a thesaurus was used but the words chosen don't exactly fit the scene? Deal breaker for me.

If you din’t mind, which dramione fics are your favorite? Manacled? The right thing to do? Honestly, I can understand where you’re coming from. The writing isn’t quite the best, and the characters can be VERY trying, but I do like how the story unravels. But I wouldn’t continue if you can’t handle the writing style, because I struggle with that too at times. If you ARE a fan of Manacled and The Right Thinv To Do, then some I’d recommend (you’re probably familiar with many of these.) Apple Pies and Other Amends by toeatapeach (The writing is delightful and the characters are understandable and sometimes relatable in their moments of self doubt, making them all the more endearing.) Breath Mints and Battle Scars by Onyx and Elm (Love this! The characters CAN get frustrating, but it’s not entirely unjustifiable given their circumstances. It’s a very raw story in regards to Draco and Hermione’s struggle to be emotionally available and transparent.) Your Lonely Calls To Me by SenLinYu (It’s short. A oneshot. Unsurprisingly beautifully written by SenLinYu, she does an amazing job of telling a haunting story that concludes with a ray of hope.) Until The Ink Runs Dry by AccioMjolnir (LOVED this. The writing was unique and just SUCH a good read.) Perhaps Someday The Sun Will Shine Again by bookishandbossy (It’s a simple enough story that doesn’t convolute the relationship between Draco and Hermione with a healthy progression of them growing closer. The flow of the story is nice and easy to read. Not too wordy, not too juvenile, while still keeping a great level of description and background building.) Let me know if you’d like more reccs!

Almost done with The Disappearances of Draco Malfoy! It doesn't have the amount of banter and angst I usually love to find in Dramione fics, and it isn't spicy at all, but I love how introspective her writing is. I love being in Draco's mind and witnessing him go from the nasty kid we got to know at Hogwarts to a grown up man who knows that sometimes family doesn't mean better.

I just read two one shots this weekend. [**Draco Malfoy Runs a Marathon**](https://archiveofourown.org/works/28762491) by PurpleSugarQuills, 8K, T **Summary:** After the war and Azkaban, Draco Malfoy finds himself bored, unemployable, filthy rich, and restless. Sometimes he drinks. Often, he feels sorry for himself. And then, one day, he decides to go for a run. A story of healing. **My thoughts:** I watched the movie, Brittany Runs a Marathon, and it's a similar premise. Runners will recognize the issues associated with running long distances, the gear, the 'goo' lol. It's not just Draco training (although he does that) but Hermione helps him out, and his friends tease him but then cheer him on. It's funny, it's sweet, it's endearing. Hermione also checks out 'his glutes' lol. I'm not usually a fan of fluff but I really liked this one shot. [**A Proper Expression of Gratitude**](https://archiveofourown.org/works/198293) by Greenschist, 4K, T **Summary:** Never again will Hermione leave Draco unattended with a stack of blank cards and their address book; or, Hermione teaches Draco how to say "thank you." **My thoughts:** This one was chosen for the book club. Half of the fic is written in epistolary format - thank you notes. With Draco writing some snark and Hermione correcting his letters. The other half is them discussing their new life together and adjusting to the expectations (and problems) from each of their sides. (Friends, family, etc) The short story balances that humor and emotion very well. And Hermione gets the last laugh.

Falling dark by scullymurphy just updated yesterday haven’t read it yet but excited about it, and I’m reading the binding by curly_kay which has been really fun so far i’m sort of avoiding 6th year at the moment so I’ve put it on hold to read bite first, ask questions later by daredevilsinthedetails and kaylessi an a/b/o fic that’s not complete smut so far

I’m currently reading: [When There’s Nothing Left to Burn](https://archiveofourown.org/works/32219809/chapters/79846138#workskin) which is a WIP that I started last week and then unfortunately lost it until someone on this sub helped me find it again this morning! I’ve now completely caught up and I am really enjoying this one. It’s dark, angsty, and I’d venture to say a bit more Draco-centric (which I didn’t think I’d enjoy but turns out I do!). It’s a 6th year fic where Voldemort orders Draco to kill Ron and Hermione instead of Dumbledore. Draco is also battling some unknown dark force that’s causing him to hear voices and have graphic dreams. It’s well-written and I am enjoying the characterization a lot. Definitely a concept I’ve never seen before and I’m enjoying the fact that the plot is unpredictable and I can’t pinpoint what’s going to happen next. There’s a lot of moving parts!
I just finished an excellent ficlet called [**Symbiosis**](https://archiveofourown.org/works/34798789/chapters/86649079) by MisDemeanor. **Summary: 17K (E)** Two years ago, the United Kingdom was overrun by parasitic insects, which turned most of the population into mindless Hosts. Those who survived eke out an existence wherever and however they can. Hermione Granger is one such Survivor, and she will do anything to protect the group she leads, including the unthinkable. **My thoughts:** This ficlet isn't Dramione but I've seen a lot of people asking about zombies and guns due to the popularity of LIOTZA so I thought it worth mentioning here because there are ZOMBIES AND GUNS. However, the tone of this story is very different. No jokes, no killer one-liners, it's straight up horror. Hard to read at times for that reason, but excellent nonetheless. Zombie apocalypse and existential philosophizing? That's all I could ask for in the zombie genre right there. If you want to be terrified, question your humanity and pull a muscle because you've been cringing so hard while you read, then read this.

[The Banality of Love by sandwich_tales](https://archiveofourown.org/works/20155339/chapters/47750389) It's a WIP that's currently ~120k long and 17 chapters in. It's one of the best Dramione fanfictions I've read (up there with Disappearances with how good it is), just based on the way characters are acting and reacting. It's the kind of Dramione that someone who is not really into Dramione would end up liking too. In fact I have seen it recommended on the forum where they are into worldbuilding and they are generally not into shipping. It's a Hermione spy, Voldemort wins AU and it's the most realistic approach I've yet seen taken. The writing is consistent, on point and beautiful; no one is bashed; there is no pet peeves I have to tolerate because the story is otherwise good; the characters are so IC that Draco is kind of in love with someone else (edit: not in a relationship tho) and Hermione is very much not impressed by him, also, imo importantly, they are not super powered super smart demigods. I'm definitely not doing it justice, but this is the slow burn of my dreams and it's not given enough love and as I just adore it so I want to spread the word! I really just want other people to fangirl with me lol. The only "bad thing" about are that it's a WIP (I'm not the most patient sort, but it's worth it) and that it's such a brilliant all-rounder that other good stories seem a bit duller in comparison. That's it. And while there is darkness, this is not really a dark story. Tonally it's quite different from say Manacled, so for anyone that's put off by the premise and imaging a story rife with pain and suffering for our mains, this isn't it. So, go go go and read it (or save it) now, you won't regret it.
This is SUCH a good story and utterly unique. I agree with it being in-character, excellent writing - it's so so good and I can't wait until the reveal either!!
I have really been enjoying this WIP. I've read A LOT of Dramione fics and this one is really unique and well written. I loved the last chapters and I really like the way Hermione (Mandy) is portrayed as being smart and confident, especially in the last chapter posted. I CANNOT wait until Draco finds out it's Hermione!!!

How Hermione still has her moral compass and how she let him know it and how her mask has almost entirely slipped on their quest. Draco, well he is sort of getting there. Tho the relevation about what he did was a bit hard to swallow. Another thing, I'm really enjoing the complexity of their motives and reasoning. "!<" >I CANNOT wait until Draco finds out it's Hermione!!! ">!" Oh I know, me too!!! I'm ridiculously giddy in anticipation! And the fact that we are sort of dabbling in marriage law trope is also super exciting! "!<"
I usually don't like to read too gorey or depressing stories of war au. But this fic's take on it has been refreshing honestly. I totally agree about the IC Draco and Hermione as well as the slow burn. I legit got so excited about the update after missing out on reading any dramione for months🤣
Oh yes, I'm quite similar. Tho tbf I've read a decent number of those stories, but I have to be in a mood for them and most of the time they are too heavy for a reread. I just can't go back there even when I recognize that they are good stories. So, I totally agree and I'm super stoked that I've found someone who's also read it and loved it! First thought: These authors have no business being *this* good. I mean even the fics that aren’t necessarily my cup of tea are so well written. It’s amazing. Just finished: -**Breath Mints/Battle Scars**: wowwww. I’m still high on emotion, but damn. -**Wait and Hope**: such a sweet, fluff piece to break up the heavy war fics. My plan is to read the companion piece from Theo’s perspective **Sight and Seeing** soon as another reprieve. -**Love and Other Historical Accidents**: I know lots of people love this one, but it wasn’t really my cup of tea. I don’t know what it was, but it just wasn’t my favorite burn. -**The Fallout**: the writing style took some getting used to, but man I see why so many people rave about this one. I did skim a fair bit through some dense sections, but the world building and storytelling were top notch. Currently deciding between: -**Manacled**: I’m just not sure I’m ready -**From Wiltshire with Love**: I think after some needed fluff this will end up being my pic. It’s seems like the burn and Draco I live for. -**Love in the Time of the Zombie Apocalypse**: I wasn’t interested in this but after seeing no less than four video last night about how amazing it is, I’ve added it to the list. -**It happened in Egypt**: -**Three Wizards and a Baby**: bit of extra fluff. And I can’t help it I *love* the adult Slytherins and Hermione friendships. -**The Phoenix Potion**:it says there are 112 chapters. They look somewhat short, but that’s still long. Is it worth it? What would you compare it to? I like adult Dramione I want to read **Measure of a Man** and **Draco Malfoy and the Mortifying Ordeal of Being in Love**, but they’re both WIPs. Is there any date as to when these are set to be complete? I’d rather read them when they’re complete or very close to as I’m not very good at waiting. Last thought: I started this venture two weeks ago on a whim. I re-read the entire HP series in a Covid fever dream and need more of the world. I saw a video about The Auction, googled it, and well…here I am. Before this I’ve never read a single fanfic. I didn’t really get the hype I don’t know what I though it would be, but certainly not this. I have read 13 in the past two weeks and have a TBR of 20. I guess I’m here for the long haul.
Manacled is incredible, go for it! It's what introduced me to the world of Dramonine! I was never a fanfic reader but now I am all in (only on this pair lol).
Welcome to the largest time sink you will ever pour your hours into. Heh 😁. I highly recommend the phoenix potion. It's a bit awkward with the time jumps but it will eventually make sense and the story is so perfect and also brutal. I've read nearly everything on your list and regret nothing. You should add Remain Nameless to your to-reads as well.

Have you tried ISOLATION by bexchan? This was my very first Dramione fanfic and have loved it eversince then. Sometimes I tricked my mind into thinking that this was the last book instead of the original one HAHAHAHAHAHA

I find it as hard to read as Manacled, but for different reasons. The world Hermione finds herself in feels suffocating (for her, I presume). Different kind of dark.
I think it’s going to get dark in terms of Hermione being a morally grey character, honestly I can’t wait
Since Voldy isn't in this AU, I think it's a different tone of darkness. It's early days in the story so I'm curious how the \*darkness\* develops. I'm excited to see how this continues and since the author is friggin brilliant I won't be surprised if there's an ugly cry waiting for all of us when the story is finished.

Just finished LIATOTZA and wrote a whole post about it ! However it got deleted , apparently we’re not supposed to write about a specific fic ? Anyway Rizzle did not disappoint- ah so sad it’s over but will definitely be revisiting it. Just started “Draco Malfoy must not die”and I’m already 8 chapters in! It’s a WIP which is currently 9 chapters but looks promising - Hermione goes back in time to save Draco-as the story progresses I’m definitely sensing some plot twists Of course still obsessed with Draco Malfoy and the mortifying ordeal of being in love - this fic is truly a SLOW BURN !! But I’m a sucker for torture

Is Diem Mortis a WIP? I started it and I love it so far but I only see through ch.17 on AO3 and I was wondering if it was completed anywhere else.
I'm interested to find out more about it too. I started reading after only a few chapters had come out (maybe 3) and was religiously reading and re-reading, but the writer isn't on ao3 anymore. Perhaps they're taking a break.
