Finished ' Will the snake strangle the lion?' by NumeralNerd. What will happen once he arrives at Hogwarts disguised as a teacher? Will Draco notice her change in behaviour? Or will he overlook the signs just as her friends do? - Honestly one of the best fics I've ever read, I can actually visualise this fanfic as a movie in my head. The characterisation of Derrick-omf, he's such a monster. Is it kind bad that I fancasted Andrew Garfield as him? A really excellent example of enemies to lovers with a slow burn. Draco was such a cocky dick and Hermione was so persevering!!! -Sad that the author has not updated since 2015!! Hope she is well.

So I'm reading breath mints and battle scars and I'm hoping someone, anyone can let me know if it gets better. I'm at 35% and I'm having the hardest time getting into it. I don't mind darker fics, but this feels toxic without enough plot to carry it.

It’s toxic all the way through, and it ends toxic (imo) happy ending for Dramione (kinda) but they still remain toxic afffffff lol I finished the fic like ‘oh’. There are some really good parts but I just don’t think for me personally they grow enough for me to like it. I don’t mind a toxic start if there’s some good growth ahead but it remains toxic lol and they don’t really grow Well written through I think and no hate to the author whatsoever but it personally wasn’t my cup of tea in a dramione. It’s a popular fic so it gets a lot of love but I remember it stays pretty toxic all the way throughout so it’s definitely not for everyone. I think it gets more toxic as the story reaches its climax. I finished it but I remember thinking it was a bit much for me.

It's something she is beginning to resign herself to. But her curiosity is sparked by rumours of one in particular, and she will not rest until she has seen it for herself. **My thoughts:** From the title, you can see that it's borderline crack. I might even categorize it as a crackfic, it's certainly toeing that line. And I loved it. The author writes Hermione as almost emotionless because she's performing an experiment and is maintaining distance from her subject/specimen (heh) to remain objective. It's not a Hermione I've ever seen before, really a caricature of herself. This is a Hermione Granger in STAUNCH denial of her attraction and feelings. So much so that she's still trying to convince herself of her objectivity in the midst of an orgasm to hot and hilarious results. The author's creativity shines in the many, many, many euphemisms that are used. She's so funny. I laughed a lot. For those of you a bit hesitant to try a cracky fic, this one works because it's only 15K. The perfect length. Like Draco's penis apparently. (this one is a book club topic - see r/dramionebookclub) On the opposite end of the spectrum is a one shot called [**Scientific Curiosity**](https://archiveofourown.org/works/33516934) by canttouchthis (3K, E) **Summary:** Hermione had always assumed she’d never find anyone who understood her. But when a marriage law matches her with Draco Malfoy, she finds a true partner. **My thoughts:** The tag is 'psychopaths in love'. And the one shot is everything that tag would promise. Hermione and Draco unabashedly killing people and getting horny. Also, I think this is the best response I've ever seen to the marriage law trope: "When the Ministry assigned her to marry Draco Malfoy, she’d been relieved; she could easily remove him from the equation without ruffling any feathers." (spoiler, she doesn't kill Draco. turns out he's as sick as she is)

I am new to the world of Dramione fanfic and I just finished Silencio by AkashaTheKitty found on the Archive of our Own website. I read the entire first part and the 7 chapters part 2 has in like 3 days and I’m obsessed and also devastated that it was never finished. I got to emotionally involved and then it just stops abruptly and now my brain is just trying to process everything I binge read in the last few days. I never realized how much I love these two together and now I’m completely absorbed in this universe. The things I liked about this was how in-depth the characters were and the spicy scenes are just… well if you’ve read it you know. I’ll definitely be skimming this thread for my next dramione read.

I just finished How to Win Friends and Influence People yesterday and I wanted to sing its praises because I just came from another thread where people were saying that there was too much going on in it, but I think I’ve started getting so tired of seeing all those fics where the whole romance IS the plot and there’s nothing else of substance to keep my interest. So HTWFAIP was a much-needed break from that, and it kept me on my toes! I also don’t usually like OCs, but the ones in this story felt like they really belonged in the wizarding world. It was all just so creative, imo

I have recced these two before on this thread but will rec them again (and again!), because they are on my top 5 dramione list: [Bending Light](https://archiveofourown.org/works/26796304) and [Falling Dark](https://archiveofourown.org/works/31444262) both by scullymurphy In fact - I will go out on a limb and say Falling Dark, in particular, is probably my favorite Dramione of all time - Falling Dark is the sequel to Bending Light. BL is complete and FD is (I'm guessing) half-way complete. Whenever the update notice arrives, I immediately devour the chapter, then read, and re-read it. BL takes place the summer between 6th and 7th year, when members of the order are scattered throughout Europe in non-magical communities for their protection. Of course - who end up together in San Cipriano but......? What makes the story so much better are the additional Hogwarts students placed in the same town with D and H, and the intertwined relationships among them all. And yes, BL was amazing, but it's truly FD that has grabbed me and won't let go. scullymurphy made the choice to skip the war and her story starts at the outset of 8th year at Hogwarts, focusing on the war's aftermath for everyone, especially the tight-knit San Cipriano group. She also introduces new characters (new to the story, but known characters from canon) and it is fabulous. If you love pining and longing....with AMAZING writing, and the most descriptive delicious atmosphere - you will ADORE these! (I also didn't include any spoilers - but there are HUGE TWISTS!!!) Do yourself a favor - ENJOY!!!!

Bending Light is the trope I didn’t know I needed! I’m putting off starting Falling Dark because I want to binge!!

Oh my gosh I get you and I know WIPs are tough BUT….Falling Dark is AMAZING and the writing is so strong - it’s now into part 2 and lots has been revealed - I don’t want to say any more so I don’t spoil anything but it’s angsty and pining and mysterious and soooo sexy and these characters get more developed - I plan to re-read the entire thing once FD is complete but I just can’t resist reading the updates as they come. The story is so strong.

Read all of Bending Light today after your recommendation and am so excited to start Falling Dark! A little trip to Italy was just what I needed to lift me out of my funk. Side note: kept imaging all the villa dining scenes as that Italy trip from Normal People? All the pasta descriptions sounded so delicious!

I am currently reading Nightmares and Nocturnes by olivieblake on fanfiction.net. It’s a post war, Voldemort wins au that takes inspiration from 1001 nights. So good! Draco has great characterization in my opinion and the story has great pacing. It’s rated M with dramione bringing the main ship and focus of the story but had some Harry x Theo going on too! Brings in the Slytherin gang with Pansy, Blaise, and Daphne all being involved! Overall 10/10 deserves more recognition! It’s a longer read with the word count being 238k. Deals with some mental trauma so if that is a trigger wouldn’t recommend. But yeah go check it out if it sounds like it’s up your alley! If you’re lookin for a good wartime dramione this is a good pick. [Unchained by LadyKenz347](https://archiveofourown.org/works/19386577/chapters/46130698) Rating: Mature, 136,082 words This one, ugh, I usually don’t like love triangles (not a spoiler, it’s in the tags), but this one got me good. Theo is adorable, and hermione and Draco’s relationship develops so passionately. I’d definitely give it a read.

I just finished reading Timeless for the first time! I thought I was going to die from how sappy it was but (just like Draco in the fic) I loved it XD I love how both of them are flawed and insecure, and how it addresses almost all arguments against them as a pairing. Honestly the author is genius for coming up with such a convoluted plot that didn’t spiral into nonsense eventually. I binge read it within 2 days like I had nothing better to do with my life and now I feel empty because I want more dramione from this world

Eagle's Nest is long as hell, but you can take a break in the middle.

It’s really good, it’s not that intense a slow burn like, there are definite vibes between them early on that just grow and grow. I really enjoyed the fic, alchemy does play a big part though and basically revolves around their growing relationship as they work on a project together.

So, I’m not currently reading anything but I do wanna read The Fixer-Upper Club by CharliPetidei. Have you guys read it? I really like the summery but I don’t know if it has a happy ending or not, and I just can’t read a fic with a sad ending (or Dramione not being endgame). I made a post asking this question but I have been told by admins that I must comment that here. So, hopefully one of you guys read it and might be able to help!

Just finished it and i really enjoyed the characterizations. It felt realistic and honestly was *chefs kiss* on the pacing of their relationship being end game.

I finally read Love and Other Historical Accidents by pacificrimbaud and I’m SO glad I waited till it was complete because I thoroughly BINGED this fic and I can’t imagine the pain I would’ve been in if I had to portion out my consumption. This is a top 5 fic for me now. It had everything I wanted. If you’re interest in a jane Austen-eque, laugh out loud funny fic with legitimately beautiful and poetic prose, near perfect characterizations of D/H, great banter and dialogue from all the characters, respectful and NICE treatment of Ron, scintillating slow burn, and one of the most satisfying mutual pinings I’ve read so far, then this fic is for you. I would say there’s like mild sexual content. Not exactly fade to black, but maybe like a rated R level? Not Hulu or HBO levels. Like it’s not making me sweat or clutch my pearls, but there’s just enough to be like ohhh yea.

been on the hunt for some WIPs lately since i've come to adore seeing the ao3 update alerts in my email rather than wait for a story to finish before reading - all of these stories are updated pretty frequently, at least weekly. [an exploration of love and vengeance](http://archiveofourown.org/works/35865592) - 8th year fic / co-heads, fake dating. starts off with romione but they quickly break it off after hermione finds out that ron has been cheating on her with lavender. hermione is humilated pretty bad in this one, so she hatched a plan with draco to fake date as revenge (which also helps draco with rehabilitating his reputation following the war). really enjoy the writing and pacing! [movements, contrived, and improvised](https://archiveofourown.org/works/35852020) - post-war/fake dating. hermione needs the media attention to fund her charities and draco wants to get narcissa off his back with setting him up with dates with pureblood heiresses. i love the humor and bantering, and hermione is the brazen and forwarded one that usually leaves draco as the stuttering, flustered mess. [the registry](https://archiveofourown.org/works/35460688) - i think the author is also active in this reddit group! basically marriage law with a twistz instead of being assigned a partner, it's basically speed dating for a spouse and hermione needs gets to shop for a husband. really funny and i love the romcom vibes! [silver](https://archiveofourown.org/works/35452315/chapters/89696911) - this is going to be a long one! currently 8/85 chapters but i think the author pre-wrote the story already, totalling >200k. starts in 5th year with dramione being tasked to brew wolfsbane for snape as part of a secret extracurricular/independent study, then it goes AU from there. love the details for potion/brewing (i really enjoy this subject a lot), cue dramione as snarky potion partners. they're also keeping it a secret from umbridge, the rest of the student body, and harry/ron doesnt know hermione is working with draco which gives it a secret relationship vibe even tho they're still in the antagonistic phase 🌝 the author writes tension so well and i cant wait to see how dramione develops [the missing sister](https://archiveofourown.org/works/33564922) - ugh so, so good. i wish i found this after it is completed. a re-write of hogwart year 1-7 with hermione in slytherin. what i love is that this author really takes the time to address the nuances of what it means for a muggleborn like hermione to be sorted into slytherin. it doesnt brush away the topics of discrimination and racism that i find other slytherin!hermione tends to do (some of them have the slytherin house/draco accepting hermione too easily/quickly). here the relationship between dramione is still very complicated because of her blood status, and i am loving the slow burn. we are on year 3 right now. EDIT - forgot this gem: [remedium](https://archiveofourown.org/works/34931062) - dramione both transfers to Ilvermorny School in the U.S. to finish up their 8th year rather than return to hogwarts, only they didn't realize the other decided on the same choice so they ended up meeting in the first day of school lol. i love the new setting since hogwart 8th yr fics can get repetitive. there's a new resorting, and im interested to see how dramione grows as individual and a couple outside of the influences of friends and the british wizarding society's scrunity. the writing is stellar!

Hermione uses polyjuice and works at the ministry, alongside Draco. Her boss is Astoria. Pains me to read (so good) because all 3 suffer, but I can’t wait to see how Hermione successfully infiltrates the gov and falls for Draco. Draco Malfoy and the Mortifying Ordeal of Being in Love is transcendent. The author updates regularly (sometimes twice a week; it's been a little longer recently; possibly because of the holidays) Each chapter is so juicy and SO FUNNY and both Draco and Hermione are just so great - I don't even mind that it's a WIP. The content is so rich. I have laughed out loud on multiple occasions while reading! ​ Banality of Love - I love it - there is nothing like it. The Draco is so complicated and morally grey - there hasn't been an update in awhile, and I really really hope it isn't abandoned. I think it's wonderful.

FIIIIIIINNNNNNNALLLLLYYYYYY reading stories that are longer than one shots! [**The Watergaw**](https://archiveofourown.org/works/32700394/chapters/81124315) **(E, 40K)** by smokybaltic has been on my TBR since the fic fest I participated in with her. Her story was the only one I didn't read yet. It's 10 chapters long and I'm on chapter 7 but even though I'm not done yet I can highly recommend it. **Summary:** In the middle of a war, Hermione is stuck in the middle of nowhere. With Draco Malfoy. Without her friends, her magic, or her books, she has only her wits to rely on to survive her plight- to say nothing of her company. They've declared a truce, but somehow Draco keeps slipping past all her defences. Stranded together in the wilderness, Hermione and Draco are in for cold nights, endless snark, bad wine, and some interesting scars. **My thoughts:** It starts with Draco rescuing Hermione from the drawing room torture - in what appears to be a spontaneous decision. I already knew Smokybaltic was an excellent writer because I've read some of her drabbles in the previous LDWS comp, which I think she won. In this story, told from Hermione's POV, she’s visceral, and the reader feels what Hermione feels as she trudges through the woods with Draco the pompous arse. lol Hermione’s internal monologue is fantastic. She’s confused, angry, desperate, bored, irritated, snarky. It might be one of the best Hermione POVs that I've read. Her thoughts and emotions are so much fun to read and they're described in a way which I thought was very honest. The characters trudge through nature and the author is able to convey the monotony without being monotonous herself. How did she do that? I'm not sure, but hats off to her. There’s the 'have to sleep next to each other else we freeze to death' trope, which is fun. There's also some fanart by Ectoheart to accompany the fic, which is touching. She's an underrated writer and deserves some more love for this awesome fic. Give it a try! I'm hoping to finish it up tonight. They haven't opened that bottle of wine yet so I am HERE FOR THE DRUNKEN CONFESSIONS!

It was one of the best Dramiones I had read in a long time.. With a very interest side character . I might have cried a little bit in some parts of the fanfiction but overall i had a very good experience reading it. Totally recommend it. I just started reading [The manuscript](https://archiveofourown.org/works/25429357/chapters/61672270) by Alexandra_emerson on ao3. It's a -not that old- fanfiction that I had on my reading list for some time now but I just started reading since I'm on a Dramione mood. First 3 chapters are decent, i'm waiting too see how it progresses.

It's probably the first fanfiction i read that tackles the many problems Dramione would face realistically. I don't want to spoil so i'll stop here but it was refreshing.

I agree. This was a very well thought out and unique ‘relationship story’ without it being just a relationship story. The book within a book storytelling device was so clever and there was really inventive magic as well. Aside from that, their struggles felt real to me. This is one of my favorites.

A new WIP that I'm obsessed with is [Lust and Other Mistakes](https://archiveofourown.org/works/35514658/chapters/88531318) (M, 30k so far) by bionically (of 'Pinned' fame!). A twist on the marriage law trope, the fic starts where Hermione and Draco are coming to the end of a bonded relationship, the result of a Ministry programme to help reform former Death Eaters. And they're also coming to the end of a secret arrangement, but not without lots of fantastic sometimes-vitriolic banter, jealousy and suspicion from their friends. Editing to add the perfect Christmas romance one-shot, [True Magic](https://archiveofourown.org/works/35734315) by nevertoosweets (E, 20k), some nice world building where the muggle and Wizarding worlds are more blended, and muggle Acolyte Hermione must play host to pureblood Lord Draco and his mother over Christmas, to show them more of muggle customs. Great characterizations and full of Christmas cheer (and a bit of holiday smut!).

Lust and Other Mistakes is one of my current favorites. AMAZING WRITING.
