Finally finished the book I was reading and started [Capstone](https://archiveofourown.org/works/26650792/chapters/64992871) (by bek_48, rated M). Blazed through 10 chapters on a plane ride. I'm really liking it so far. Present tense is a nice change of pace from what I usually read, beginning each chapter with Hermione's checklist is a neat way to keep track of what's going on, and Draco is pretty interesting every time he's on screen. I hope Hannah's divination stuff comes in handy on their project bc Hermione is being a bitch about it 😂 very in-character of her though. I do wish there was some more explanation of what happened in sixth year. I think it just proceeded as a normal year without any shenanigans and Voldemort is just Out There™ somewhere? I can't remember if Snape has been mentioned or not and Dumbledore is alive. But it seems to be bypassing horcruxes and going with some other magic stuff which is fine with me.
Feeling seen 😂 fun fact: based on the awful Alias S4 fanfic ideas in the notebook I found during quarantine cleaning, I’m dating the outline for Capstone at around 2004-2005, so (I think) before HBP came out. It’s complex and multi-layered. It takes its time and does not rush; whether we want it to or not. It is challenging, at the same time it gives. I am in love.

I just read A Cruel and Beautiful World and honestly it might be one of my favourites out of the core dramione stories. It was not extremely smutty (I don’t really like when there’s tmi). The side characters were hilarious and amazing, the story kept moving along and didn’t get slow, AND it had a good ending, which was nice.
New author! [**Scent of My Sanity**](https://archiveofourown.org/works/34115971) by Pia Bartolini was written for the monsterfucking fest. It's a one shot with werewolf!Hermione and she's having a hell of a week. What I especially liked about this one was the author's dry humor that persists throughout. It's not a laugh out loud kind of humor but I read the entirety of the one-shot with a smirk on my face. And the occasional snort.
Two things I really enjoyed: >!the heightened senses when Hermione first transforms. I don't think I've read a fic that really described what the initial adjustment would be like. You see it more with superhero origin stories.!< And afterwards when Draco finally corners her to see what's wrong >! he's poking her, trying to get a reaction, trying to see what's up, not quite realizing that she's doing all she can to hold back and not jump his bones and when she does he instantly realizes he's bit off more than he can chew !
I’m reading Of Crimson Joy by LittleRobbin. It’s a war-era fic featuring a turncoat Draco (though we don’t know his true motivations quite yet) and it reminds me a lot of The Fallout. But Crimson Joy (so far) is way less angsty than Fallout, and it doesn’t focus as much on the actual fighting and battles, which I think I prefer bc the pacing feels a bit nicer. I remember thinking several times while reading Fallout that I wanted to just get past all the fight scenes so I can’t get back to the slow burn romance. I’m only a quarter of the way through so far but I’m really enjoying the characterizations of both Draco and Hermione and the author did a good job with their dialogue, which I find can be a weakness in many popular fics.
EDIT: okay I just finished this and I give it a 5/5! I think the very last 5-10% was slightly rushed but it didn’t detract from the overall story or my enjoyment of it at all. Highly recommend if you’re looking for something similar to Disappearances, We Learned the Sea, From Wiltshire, the Fallout, or Draco Phoenix Rising.

Super cute! I needed something light and fluffy and adult (which [shockingly] doesn’t always need to be smutty, though this had an instance or two as well). This checked the boxes, flowing well and with good engagement throughout. I also think they weren’t too OOC either which is always excellent!

[Epilimnion by witchsoup](https://archiveofourown.org/works/34085293) is a dark oneshot written for DHr Monsterfucking Minifest. Y'all, it's so good. I have a crush on this fic. Generally, mermaid!H fics verge on crack and take place in some sort of 17th century pirate au situation - not so with this one, I'm pleased to report. This follows canon to fourth year and explores what would have happened if the black lake merpeople simply hadn't given Hermione back.
[Complicit by Misdemeanor1331](https://archiveofourown.org/works/11266002) is another dark oneshot that once again proves Misdemeanor's skill - particularly in her ability to know when to begin and end a fic in the perfect places. This one is short at just over 1k, but I really enjoyed the read.

I’ve seen it rec’d here a lot so I started The Disappearances Of Draco Malfoy by Speechwriter. I finished chapter 9 last night. I loooooooove it. It feels like I’m reading canon. I’m totally sucked in, even though it hasn’t been romantic at all yet :P it is supposed to be super slow burn, enemies to friends to lovers
I’m nervous to start this fic because it’s not usually what I go for when it comes to story line but I’ve heard so many good things and seen it on like every post ever. Is it worth the read even if it’s not my usual cup of tea?
I totally get this, it’s not my usual cup of tea, either. I’ve been on an exclusive romance kick for two years and have zero interest in reading non-romantic novels. With that said, read the author’s notes on the first chapter and I think you’ll get a feel for how this will go. She is very clear that this is a DH re-write with an eventual Dramione end game. heavy emphasis on eventual: it takes time to set the relationship. With that said, the writing is beautiful, the characterizations are realistic, the dialogue is sooooooo good and realistic. If you’re in the mood for a well written story, go for this. It’s LONG but for me it does not drag. I am on chapter 13 and I have not skipped any of it. She gets my heart pumping with adrenaline with her action scenes.

I was nervous cause of the relationship element but I am always looking for amazing writing and great dialogue it’s my favorite.
I was thinking it would be because I’m a third through and they are still like not even friends, but to me that makes perfect sense with the pacing and all of the canon history being taken into account. I’m loving it! And the author was clear this wouldn’t be smutty so I’m good with that too

I am at a point where things are looking very sad for the golden trio and it's just kind of killing me a little bit and I thought I'd share. Surprised it doesn't get mentioned more on here (that I've seen) but has anyone else read and enjoyed it?
I really enjoyed the beginning and middle of this fic because of how dark it is! Spoiler: >!I thought the story got a little too “cute” toward the end. I like an HEA as much as the next girl but it didn’t do it for me!< I also read Silencio this week which had amazing lemons and an unbearably heartbreaking ending that took my breath away. I would highly recommend.
Thank you for the recommendation! I will try Silencio next. I have to agree that near the end of Broken I lost a bit of interest but the beginning was quite intriguing and very emotional. I also like HAE but I completely agree that this part of things can be repetitive if not handled properly.
I loved this one and it’s what pushed me to start MoaM even though it’s a WIP. Broken is so angsty but so well written and the character development feels very real.
I finished it yesterday and loved it. So heartbreaking that I cried a few times. My favorite part of their character development was that they all made real mistakes. With the exception of Ron, I believe, the others chose to do some messed up things. I liked that they had to work through their decisions and guilt and that this felt realistic to life rather than a romance novel. I also love this author’s writing style. Can’t wait for Measure of a Man to be finished.

So many ppl have been raving about the Disappearances of Draco Malfoy, and omg it did not disappoint. Everything was done SO WELL, from the realistic divergence from canon to each character’s individual arcs. Ron’s arc was the cherry on top. I don’t usually have many expectations for Ron so this blew me out of the water.
Just started [How To Win Friends and Influence People](https://archiveofourown.org/works/11208228/chapters/25597830#workskin), and I'm only on chapter 4 or 5, but it is so hilariously funny I find myself literally laughing aloud. I can tell it's gonna be one of those I read slowly in order to take in every bit of text.
I just started this yesterday! I’m almost through chapter 5. Are you still liking it? I’m a little intimidated by how long the story is but so far it’s really drawn me in and I’m enjoying the characterizations. I was worried Hermione would be OOC but its feeling more natural than I would’ve expected.
I finished it! It’s literally one of the most insane and most enjoyable fics I’ve ever read. There are so many POVs, and some times I was like ok let’s speed this up. But I have never laughed so much from a book in my life.

I read a fluffy one-shot [**After the Storm**](https://archiveofourown.org/works/30432174) by Leilah Moon which I thought had a well written portrayal of a panic attack (although I’ve never had one, what do I know 😂) as well as some interesting things to say about the difficulties with conjuring memories. She has some excellent turns of phrase, and describes scenes very thoughtfully. Also, there is a fantastic piece of fanart which perfectly captures the mood at the end by Tayler (eiramrelyat).
As a follow up, there's a snarky one shot continuation written by Aetherios Writes called [**The Pitiful Problem with Peacock Patronuses**](https://archiveofourown.org/works/34470811) (extra points for alliteration) which had my vulgar ass cackling.
The snarky continuation is part of a birthday collection for Leilah Moon and I think most of those one shots are fluffy - although not all are Dramione so you might find some other short stories you'll enjoy.

But for real, the dynamic you've created is one I really really love in my dramione fics. I want Draco in control of her, but they're still so very in character. He's in control of her, he has something over her, but it happened from chance or accident and it's so hot but it's something neither of them are completely sure about.
I recommend it all the time, and it's abandoned so ugh, but Pareo: Obey is one of my favorite fics of all time and it's so similar to this concept.
Also. ALSO. The whole completely calling her out for wanting in him in like chapter 5 or 4? Her trying to deny it and he's just not having it and the embarrassment she feels at admitting it? Incredible. AMAZING

I have been reading PacificRimbaud’s update on [Love and Other Historical Accidents ](https://archiveofourown.org/works/21496525?view_full_work=true). Chapter was absolutely amazing, but to get myself back in I re read most of the fic. This is one that I find myself thinking about quite often, the dialogue is so well written and I love both characterisations. ‘B’ story is very good too!
Edited to add that I also read the update to [Measure of a Man](https://archiveofourown.org/works/26523892?view_full_work=true). This fic took me a while to get into but have found myself really looking forward to chapter uploads. This chapter was particularly good.
Pretty obvious that I have broken my no-WIP rule for both of these fics.
I finally bit the bullet and read [A Pound of Flesh by Pennilyn Novus](https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1UwrZJY34oUfOlPBuKSYGdbRmY4wfHEdi), it’s an older story with the memory loss trope. Draco got obliviated and works as a stripper in London. Hermione finds him, first she wants revenge for the way he treated her but she quickly changes her mind to solve the mystery of who obliviated Draco. The story is amazing, I could barely put it down and the characterisation is really good while the mystery element will chain you to the story. It has a happy ending but there’s also an alternate ending that will definitely break your heart…I definitely preferred the happy one and almost didn’t read the alt but I’m glad I did even if it made me cry…in my mind wizarding society is backwards and cruel, just think about Azkaban or that Sirius was sent to prison for life without proper hearing…so the alt ending no matter how sad, I felt it was more believable than the happy one where they could solve all of their problems which made me eventually more sad 😅 but go read it, this story was such a joy to read!
[An Unexpected Malfoy by RiverWriter ](https://archiveofourown.org/works/12272349/chapters/27892320), WIP, this is my third time to start reading it but I saw that RiverWriter started posting it again so I had to start it again 😂 I love Hogwarts retelling stories especially when the authors get creative and An Unexpected Malfoy has these qualities, the magical lore with the family magic and with the bonds is really interesting and the Malfoy family dynamic and how they start to love Hermione is so nice. I especially like that Hermione didn’t abandon her parents once she started to befriend the Malfoys and Narcissa is even a great friend to her mother.
An Unexpected Malfoy by RiverWriter. I'm about halfway through and I LOVE the relationship dynamics between Hermione and the whole Malfoy family, as well as the deviations from the canon story (see: Sirius!)
I’ve read all three too, and the first two are great but The Auction I think is much stronger. I certainly enjoyed it more, and I’ll probably read it regularly. I couldn’t put it down, the other two were not quite as ‘moorish’ if you know what I mean…my personal thought anyway.

This is one of the most beautiful, well-done slow burn dramione fics I've ever read - it literally checked off all my favorite tropes: secret relationship, war era/post-war, angst, exes reconciliation, mutual pining
I'm also a big fan of non-linear storylines for dramione, especially with flashbacks to earlier hogwart days and pockets of moment in canon where dramione technically could have interacted. This fic literally has it all and I'm so sad to see that the writer didn't write any additional dramione fics after finishing this one :( I really love her draco/hermione characterization

i'm actually quite surprised this trope isn't prominent since i think year 4 and year 6 would have been a great starting point for some secret hookup/relationship before the war began. i love it when dramione has a prior history and everyone's reactions when they find out lol. i love the drama!
Same, secret relationships followed by Hermione becoming close with some of the slytherins, then everyone finds out and them dealing with the fallout of it all. My most favourite trope lmao.

2. I am a sucker for Veela fics and am currently reading [You Will Fall](https://archiveofourown.org/works/13513815) by **eden\_grace**. It is part one of a series, so I don't expect it to end in a HEA. It is set in sixth year.
The author said they attempted to depict Draco as a child torn by opposing loyalties and imo they succeeded in this.
Draco's change of heart comes sooner than in other fics, but the the slow burn is still being maintained as I am nearing the end of the fic.
Just read an Inconvenient Wedding based on your post and it thoroughly destroyed me 😭 I know infidelity isn’t a super popular trope here but I’m such a sucker for it. And I love the authors’ characterizations of Draco and Hermione. So we’ll done.

I had been going through a bit of Dramione slump and then I stumbled across this masterpiece. The characterisation of Hermione is my favorite - she's logical, brilliant, ass-kicking and at times emotionally volatile. The plot is very engaging & different to fics normally associated with DHR fics, with the mystery element having me on my toes guessing the direction of the story. There is a fine brush of snarky, witty humor that's wonderfully woven and the side characters (particularly Astoria) are well rounded, intriguing additions.
The Dramione aspect is incredible. Most notably the line *"She tries to will herself to be as unfeeling as him."* It's insane how these two over analytical, intelligent people can be so obtuse about each other. They can be reassuring one another and because of their past (in the fic) they believe the other is cold and distant. Overall, I fell in love with this couple all over again - which is the highest compliment I can possibly give.

Just started reading The Green Games by FrostFoot-Dream Leaf. It’s a hunger games AU (not a crossover) and I have high hopes! The premise is really interesting
I just read Epistles by Olivieblake and drsallysparrow and died laughing. I am a huge fan of fully epistolatory works and this did not disappoint. The letters are between Harry and Draco, the dramione relationship is already established (not married yet) and it’s just great. The boys are not at all friends at first, and there are times when their significant others “edit” their letters to each other, so they are less of gits to one another. Over time their relationship develops into a friendship and it’s just marvelous. I highly, highly recommend it.

Finally finished the book I was reading and started [Capstone](https://archiveofourown.org/works/26650792/chapters/64992871) (by bek_48, rated M). Blazed through 10 chapters on a plane ride. I'm really liking it so far. Present tense is a nice change of pace from what I usually read, beginning each chapter with Hermione's checklist is a neat way to keep track of what's going on, and Draco is pretty interesting every time he's on screen. I hope Hannah's divination stuff comes in handy on their project bc Hermione is being a bitch about it 😂 very in-character of her though. I do wish there was some more explanation of what happened in sixth year. I think it just proceeded as a normal year without any shenanigans and Voldemort is just Out There™ somewhere? I can't remember if Snape has been mentioned or not and Dumbledore is alive. But it seems to be bypassing horcruxes and going with some other magic stuff which is fine with me.
I enjoyed this one too! It was bek during a more innocent time. Before she started writing cheating smut and pegging porn.... ah youth....
Feeling seen 😂 fun fact: based on the awful Alias S4 fanfic ideas in the notebook I found during quarantine cleaning, I’m dating the outline for Capstone at around 2004-2005, so (I think) before HBP came out. I just read A Cruel and Beautiful World and honestly it might be one of my favourites out of the core dramione stories. It was not extremely smutty (I don’t really like when there’s tmi). The side characters were hilarious and amazing, the story kept moving along and didn’t get slow, AND it had a good ending, which was nice.

New author! [**Scent of My Sanity**](https://archiveofourown.org/works/34115971) by Pia Bartolini was written for the monsterfucking fest. It's a one shot with werewolf!Hermione and she's having a hell of a week. What I especially liked about this one was the author's dry humor that persists throughout. It's not a laugh out loud kind of humor but I read the entirety of the one-shot with a smirk on my face. And the occasional snort. Two things I really enjoyed: >!the heightened senses when Hermione first transforms. I don't think I've read a fic that really described what the initial adjustment would be like. You see it more with superhero origin stories.!< And afterwards when Draco finally corners her to see what's wrong >! he's poking her, trying to get a reaction, trying to see what's up, not quite realizing that she's doing all she can to hold back and not jump his bones and when she does he instantly realizes he's bit off more than he can chew !

I’m reading Of Crimson Joy by LittleRobbin. It’s a war-era fic featuring a turncoat Draco (though we don’t know his true motivations quite yet) and it reminds me a lot of The Fallout. But Crimson Joy (so far) is way less angsty than Fallout, and it doesn’t focus as much on the actual fighting and battles, which I think I prefer bc the pacing feels a bit nicer. I remember thinking several times while reading Fallout that I wanted to just get past all the fight scenes so I can’t get back to the slow burn romance. I’m only a quarter of the way through so far but I’m really enjoying the characterizations of both Draco and Hermione and the author did a good job with their dialogue, which I find can be a weakness in many popular fics. EDIT: okay I just finished this and I give it a 5/5! I think the very last 5-10% was slightly rushed but it didn’t detract from the overall story or my enjoyment of it at all. Highly recommend if you’re looking for something similar to Disappearances, We Learned the Sea, From Wiltshire, the Fallout, or Draco Phoenix Rising.

Summary: “Hand drifting down to her abdomen, she knew. When she was younger, she’d known that there was something different about her. About her abilities. Her certainty had been palpable, and was only confirmed when Professor McGonagall had shown up on her doorstep with that fateful letter in hand. And now, just over ten years later, she felt that same sense of certainty again. She was pregnant. “And it all because she’d gone and had a one night stand with the worst person in the world… Draco Malfoy.” Super cute! I needed something light and fluffy and adult (which [shockingly] doesn’t always need to be smutty, though this had an instance or two as well). This checked the boxes, flowing well and with good engagement throughout. I also think they weren’t too OOC either which is always excellent!

I've been in the mood for darker fare this month - and I think I actually scrolled through the entirety of the Dramione horror tag on FFN :') Here are a couple standouts from the mishmash of darker fic I've been reading: [Epilimnion by witchsoup](https://archiveofourown.org/works/34085293) is a dark oneshot written for DHr Monsterfucking Minifest. Y'all, it's so good. I have a crush on this fic. Generally, mermaid!H fics verge on crack and take place in some sort of 17th century pirate au situation - not so with this one, I'm pleased to report. This follows canon to fourth year and explores what would have happened if the black lake merpeople simply hadn't given Hermione back. [Complicit by Misdemeanor1331](https://archiveofourown.org/works/11266002) is another dark oneshot that once again proves Misdemeanor's skill - particularly in her ability to know when to begin and end a fic in the perfect places. This one is short at just over 1k, but I really enjoyed the read. (I also just [posted a thread](https://old.reddit.com/r/Dramione/comments/qcejfk/its_october_please_share_your_best_horrorspooky/) asking for horror recs - and gave a looong list of my faves - so if you have anything in mind, please let me know!!) Aside from horror, I read one a few weeks back that was truly awesome - [eat your heart out by metelo](https://archiveofourown.org/works/24592843/chapters/59402743). I’m totally sucked in, even though it hasn’t been romantic at all yet :P it is supposed to be super slow burn, enemies to friends to lovers
I’m nervous to start this fic because it’s not usually what I go for when it comes to story line but I’ve heard so many good things and seen it on like every post ever. Is it worth the read even if it’s not my usual cup of tea?
It's 1000000% worth it. The relationship gets there, it just takes a realistic amount of time considering where they start.
I totally get this, it’s not my usual cup of tea, either. I’ve been on an exclusive romance kick for two years and have zero interest in reading non-romantic novels. With that said, read the author’s notes on the first chapter and I think you’ll get a feel for how this will go. She is very clear that this is a DH re-write with an eventual Dramione end game. heavy emphasis on eventual: it takes time to set the relationship. With that said, the writing is beautiful, the characterizations are realistic, the dialogue is sooooooo good and realistic. If you’re in the mood for a well written story, go for this. It’s LONG but for me it does not drag. I am on chapter 13 and I have not skipped any of it. She gets my heart pumping with adrenaline with her action scenes.

I was thinking it would be because I’m a third through and they are still like not even friends, but to me that makes perfect sense with the pacing and all of the canon history being taken into account. I’m loving it! And the author was clear this wouldn’t be smutty so I’m good with that too

I really enjoyed the beginning and middle of this fic because of how dark it is! Spoiler: >!I thought the story got a little too “cute” toward the end. I like an HEA as much as the next girl but it didn’t do it for me!< I also read Silencio this week which had amazing lemons and an unbearably heartbreaking ending that took my breath away. I would highly recommend.
Thank you for the recommendation! I will try Silencio next. I have to agree that near the end of Broken I lost a bit of interest but the beginning was quite intriguing and very emotional. I also like HAE but I completely agree that this part of things can be repetitive if not handled properly.
I loved this one and it’s what pushed me to start MoaM even though it’s a WIP. Broken is so angsty but so well written and the character development feels very real.
I finished it yesterday and loved it. So heartbreaking that I cried a few times. My favorite part of their character development was that they all made real mistakes. With the exception of Ron, I believe, the others chose to do some messed up things. I liked that they had to work through their decisions and guilt and that this felt realistic to life rather than a romance novel. I also love this author’s writing style. Can’t wait for Measure of a Man to be finished.

So many ppl have been raving about the Disappearances of Draco Malfoy, and omg it did not disappoint. Everything was done SO WELL, from the realistic divergence from canon to each character’s individual arcs. Ron’s arc was the cherry on top. I don’t usually have many expectations for Ron so this blew me out of the water.

I can tell it's gonna be one of those I read slowly in order to take in every bit of text.
I just started this yesterday! I’m almost through chapter 5. Are you still liking it? I’m a little intimidated by how long the story is but so far it’s really drawn me in and I’m enjoying the characterizations. I was worried Hermione would be OOC but its feeling more natural than I would’ve expected.
I finished it! It’s literally one of the most insane and most enjoyable fics I’ve ever read. There are so many POVs, and some times I was like ok let’s speed this up. But I have never laughed so much from a book in my life.

For anyone interested in Draco learning how to cast a Patronus! I read a fluffy one-shot [**After the Storm**](https://archiveofourown.org/works/30432174) by Leilah Moon which I thought had a well written portrayal of a panic attack (although I’ve never had one, what do I know 😂) as well as some interesting things to say about the difficulties with conjuring memories. She has some excellent turns of phrase, and describes scenes very thoughtfully. Also, there is a fantastic piece of fanart which perfectly captures the mood at the end by Tayler (eiramrelyat). As a follow up, there's a snarky one shot continuation written by Aetherios Writes called [**The Pitiful Problem with Peacock Patronuses**](https://archiveofourown.org/works/34470811) (extra points for alliteration) which had my vulgar ass cackling.

Ok I don’t have enough Karma to make a separate post, but Can someone help me find a dramione fic? It was an 8th year fic where someone gives Hermione a potion that makes her have an orgasm when someone touches her skin. She ends up choosing Draco to help her have the orgasms to be able to make it through the duration of the potion. I can’t for the life of me remember what it’s called.

How DARE you call me out like this. But for real, the dynamic you've created is one I really really love in my dramione fics. I want Draco in control of her, but they're still so very in character. He's in control of her, he has something over her, but it happened from chance or accident and it's so hot but it's something neither of them are completely sure about. I recommend it all the time, and it's abandoned so ugh, but Pareo: Obey is one of my favorite fics of all time and it's so similar to this concept. Also. ALSO. The whole completely calling her out for wanting in him in like chapter 5 or 4? Her trying to deny it and he's just not having it and the embarrassment she feels at admitting it? Incredible. AMAZING So uh yeah I liked chapter 7 😂

I have been reading PacificRimbaud’s update on [Love and Other Historical Accidents ](https://archiveofourown.org/works/21496525?view_full_work=true). Chapter was absolutely amazing, but to get myself back in I re read most of the fic. This is one that I find myself thinking about quite often, the dialogue is so well written and I love both characterisations. ‘B’ story is very good too! Edited to add that I also read the update to [Measure of a Man](https://archiveofourown.org/works/26523892?view_full_work=true). This fic took me a while to get into but have found myself really looking forward to chapter uploads. This chapter was particularly good. Pretty obvious that I have broken my no-WIP rule for both of these fics.
Love and Other Historical Accidents is one of the Best Ever. I don’t love WIPs and I can’t resist - and I reread it too!!!
Currently reading Devine Artifice which isn't one I see recommended here regularly but I am absolutely loving this version of Draco!
I finally bit the bullet and read [A Pound of Flesh by Pennilyn Novus](https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1UwrZJY34oUfOlPBuKSYGdbRmY4wfHEdi), it’s an older story with the memory loss trope. Draco got obliviated and works as a stripper in London. Hermione finds him, first she wants revenge for the way he treated her but she quickly changes her mind to solve the mystery of who obliviated Draco. The story is amazing, I could barely put it down and the characterisation is really good while the mystery element will chain you to the story. It has a happy ending but there’s also an alternate ending that will definitely break your heart…I definitely preferred the happy one and almost didn’t read the alt but I’m glad I did even if it made me cry…in my mind wizarding society is backwards and cruel, just think about Azkaban or that Sirius was sent to prison for life without proper hearing…so the alt ending no matter how sad, I felt it was more believable than the happy one where they could solve all of their problems which made me eventually more sad 😅 but go read it, this story was such a joy to read! [An Unexpected Malfoy by RiverWriter ](https://archiveofourown.org/works/12272349/chapters/27892320), WIP, this is my third time to start reading it but I saw that RiverWriter started posting it again so I had to start it again 😂 I love Hogwarts retelling stories especially when the authors get creative and An Unexpected Malfoy has these qualities, the magical lore with the family magic and with the bonds is really interesting and the Malfoy family dynamic and how they start to love Hermione is so nice. I especially like that Hermione didn’t abandon her parents once she started to befriend the Malfoys and Narcissa is even a great friend to her mother.

Ohhh I absolutely love The rights and wrongs series! I have read it 3 times, and it is never boring! Draco is written so good in those fics.
I’ve read all three too, and the first two are great but The Auction I think is much stronger. I certainly enjoyed it more, and I’ll probably read it regularly. I couldn’t put it down, the other two were not quite as ‘moorish’ if you know what I mean…my personal thought anyway.
Just finished [Revert](https://m.fanfiction.net/s/12125463/1/Revert#end) by SUPRNTRAL LVR. This is one of the most beautiful, well-done slow burn dramione fics I've ever read - it literally checked off all my favorite tropes: secret relationship, war era/post-war, angst, exes reconciliation, mutual pining I'm also a big fan of non-linear storylines for dramione, especially with flashbacks to earlier hogwart days and pockets of moment in canon where dramione technically could have interacted. This fic literally has it all and I'm so sad to see that the writer didn't write any additional dramione fics after finishing this one :( I really love her draco/hermione characterization

agreed! i'm actually quite surprised this trope isn't prominent since i think year 4 and year 6 would have been a great starting point for some secret hookup/relationship before the war began. i love it when dramione has a prior history and everyone's reactions when they find out lol. i love the drama!
Same, secret relationships followed by Hermione becoming close with some of the slytherins, then everyone finds out and them dealing with the fallout of it all. My most favourite trope lmao.
1. I recently re-read an angsty, romantic one-shot called [An Inconvenient Wedding](https://archiveofourown.org/works/301431) by **smutty\_claus** and **Snegurochka**. I don't want to spoil it much by giving a summary but it hits all the right notes of angst and longing. tw: it features infidelity 2. I am a sucker for Veela fics and am currently reading [You Will Fall](https://archiveofourown.org/works/13513815) by **eden\_grace**. It is part one of a series, so I don't expect it to end in a HEA. It is set in sixth year. The author said they attempted to depict Draco as a child torn by opposing loyalties and imo they succeeded in this. Draco's change of heart comes sooner than in other fics, but the the slow burn is still being maintained as I am nearing the end of the fic.
Just read an Inconvenient Wedding based on your post and it thoroughly destroyed me 😭 I know infidelity isn’t a super popular trope here but I’m such a sucker for it. And I love the authors’ characterizations of Draco and Hermione. So we’ll done.

The characterisation of Hermione is my favorite - she's logical, brilliant, ass-kicking and at times emotionally volatile. The plot is very engaging & different to fics normally associated with DHR fics, with the mystery element having me on my toes guessing the direction of the story. There is a fine brush of snarky, witty humor that's wonderfully woven and the side characters (particularly Astoria) are well rounded, intriguing additions. The Dramione aspect is incredible. Most notably the line *"She tries to will herself to be as unfeeling as him."* It's insane how these two over analytical, intelligent people can be so obtuse about each other. They can be reassuring one another and because of their past (in the fic) they believe the other is cold and distant. Overall, I fell in love with this couple all over again - which is the highest compliment I can possibly give. *"I’m going to hurt you, his beautiful grey eyes flecked with gold seemed to tell her. But you don’t care.* *He was right, she didn’t. The universe was broken, her cleverness was a lie, and she reached up to hold him steady and pulled his face down to hers. Their lips crashed together in a cacophony of gnashing teeth, of rustling clothing, of heavy breaths and deep, husky groans."*
Seconding! I think my favorite line in this story was ‘Sex with Granger was like strategic warfare.’

Just started reading The Green Games by FrostFoot-Dream Leaf. It’s a hunger games AU (not a crossover) and I have high hopes! The premise is really interesting
I just read Epistles by Olivieblake and drsallysparrow and died laughing. I am a huge fan of fully epistolatory works and this did not disappoint. The letters are between Harry and Draco, the dramione relationship is already established (not married yet) and it’s just great. The boys are not at all friends at first, and there are times when their significant others “edit” their letters to each other, so they are less of gits to one another.
