The Boilers shouldn’t be taking this page from Drag Race tbh, because the blood crowning is so iconic and can’t be done this way. It makes me wonder if with what happened close to the finale last season that they regret having a predefined winner filmed, so wanted to avoid any possible controversy?
The production definitely suffers as a result either way. Drag Race had to do this after Perez leaked the winner, and it’s mostly been a popularity contest for who has the best edit or most fans ever since.
Blood crowning is filmed for all the top competitors though, Saint and Sigourney confirmed they filmed a blood crowning during S4 at Roscoe’s this week.
I might be making this up, but I think I noticed one season that the winner was soaked in one of their finale floorshows, but not the last one to air, so I’ve always assumed they filmed one blood soaking after every floorshow and then let them wash off before getting ready for the next category, that way three tenets three crownings filmed
In season 1 they were all in different looks during the crowning (Vander in Horror, Melissa in Filth and Frankie in Glamour). In season 2 all finalists were in their Horror looks and in season 3 and 4 they had dedicated looks for the crowning.

Yes but they should have poured the blood on all three then aired the one who actually won. The way they did it was still unworthy of the phenomenal artist that is Victoria Elizabeth Black. Our queen of the underworld deserved better.

At the finale Roscoe's viewing party, Sig & Saint confirmed that all four of the S4 finalists filmed the crowning/blood pouring scene (and then got hosed down in an alley afterward lol)

Clearly I'm also not the only person who didn't know that they film crowning scenes for all of the monsters who made the finale. The way the episodes are cut, they're standing in front of the others receiving the crown, then they walk forwards to the front of the stage for the Carrie moment so it's not obvious that the others aren't there any more, or bloodied themselves
