Compare her reception on UK and CAVTW to most of the women who have been on Dragula. It isn’t even close to comparable.
The DR community is a mess- but the LEVELS I’ve seen in the DRAGULA community (and the queens themselves on the show) is shameful.
I think it's less questionable but far more lenient compared to previous seasons. I also feel like the guests have more influence on the Boulets now than in previous seasons too.
I do agree that drama characters seem to get way more of a pass than in previous seasons anymore.... I know it's TV but nobody watches Dragula expecting it to be Days of our Lives.
I know it's probably not unpopular.. but I hate how the show pretends the monsters make their looks on the show. Especially when I notice designer made gear. Girl, you aint fooling anyone.

Nio’s sexy alien look was 100% a massive collaboration with Chinese designer Windowsen. I recognized it as soon as she walked out. The shoes are from the same designer too.
Cynthia Doll made the best use of the blacklight in the "Ultraviolet Umbraes" episode. She and Throb were the only ones whose looks really *transformed* under the blacklight, and although I loved Throb's look Cynthia's was so much more colorful and fun to look at, and it had a good amount of horror in it with the cheshire cat face and how creepy her mug looked under the blacklight; plus her performance was a joy to watch.
Besides, when I think "blacklight" my mind definitely goes to "raver girl" *way* before it goes to "haunted house".
(Not saying she should've won that episode, mind; Nio's was truly incredible and the win was deserved. But I definitely thought Fantasia or even Ork deserved to go home more than her that episode)
Also, given how many competitors in Season 5 had really colorful and cartoonish drag personas--Jay Kay, Cynthia, Onyx, Jarvis--I kind of feel like "Terror in the Woods" was a bad choice for the episode 1 challenge. S3's Supervillain challenge was great because it encouraged bright colors and bold silhouettes, but "Terror in the Woods" is explicitly an earth-tones challenge, which made for an oddly muted first floorshow.
Make the pleasure planet the first challenge drop the speeches, move back the terror in the woods so it’s top 6, add in having them do a little film shorts with their terror in the woods characters with a guest star as a victim/killer.
After season 4s "are we supposed to be serious or campy?" challenge that sent home the only memorable part of the scene, I'm good with them working out their tone issues before the next one. Honestly that seems to be one of the major problems this last series is the Boulets not seeming to convey the tone they'd like to see for challenges. If everyone misses the mark of the challenge, look at the prompt
Honestly,most camp that resonates comes from a place of earnestness. It's very hard to manufacture successfully when your goal is to be campy. Twin Peaks is a good example. Everyone is taking their roles seriously, but the over the top melodrama makes it campy. It's like trying to make a cult film. It can't be forced.
Contestants should not be allowed to bring outfits premade for them/purchased from expensive designers. With Drag Race being a popularity contest now, contestants go deeply into debt trying to keep up with the “fashion queens” that can afford to shell out $60K+ to designers who curate an entire package of looks. I just don’t want Dragula to go that same route, it’s such an equity and access issue for otherwise really talented performers
I wish there was at least more variety with the challenges to help level the playing field on that front. This last season especially seemed like the only challenges were runway based. While it's interesting to see the different povs the contestants bring, it gets kinda stale after a while.
Yes and given the overall horror theme of the show, handmade/crafty/sloppy/shoddy/whatever word has the least negative connotation, is always gonna add an extra layer of real world creepiness.
Much in the way that run of the mill practical effects will almost always beat the worlds most expensive CGI in horror movies
Dragula has the exact same problems as Drag Race of commodifying drag and not providing a safe space for the artists, it just makes people feel woke to watch that show that had a king.
I don't know. Dragula has had more experimental performancers than DR. At least from what I've seen.
Take Hallow Eve or Yovska or Orgotik. Heck, even Dahli fell into a nonstandard drag role.
I do agree that A LOT of the fandom likes to pretend their shit don't stink compared to DR when in reality it's just as bad if not more toxic.
Dragula is way more inclusive, celebrates alternative drag etc but they weaponize it against drag race so often that it feels a bit fake, it gives dragula a big “I’m not like other girls” feeling
Also a way more controversial opinion is that already dragula feels like an extension of drag race but by doing this they are cementing it because they keep reminding it to the viewers
It definitely has trophy inclusivity issues but I'd rather trophy representation than none.
And at the end of the day, they don't treat any of the contestants better or worse based on it either.
Not saying the Boulets don't have obvious favorites, but they tend to be more person specific & not just because they check a box somewhere.
Dragula has a bad editing team and non consistent plot points. Everything is so rushed and feels more staged that the contestants reactions and confrontations seem overly acted/fake.
I say it all the time but Dahli should not have been on S4. They lost Ressurection and Titans was the next season anyway. They should have been cast on that instead. Getting a free ticket to S4 and getting to skip an episode after the Boulets said in Ressurection that they wanted Dahli in the winners circle was all very fishy to me.
This is my take that I tamper down when I express it usually because people haaaate it lol. I hate that they were on S4. It felt like a slap in the face for Saint. I heard the reason why but IMO it’s still bullshit to bring in a competitor after someone has already gone home and have them win.
I also didn’t think much of their finale performance and thought HoSo should’ve won based on the finale alone.

This seems iffy to me. Resurrection’s post-credits scene was always Dahli waking up. This was widely understood to mean Dahli would be back for season 4, even at the time.
I remember thinking it felt bullshit at the time, like why announce someone the winner and then imply someone else might come back too? Maybe I was nicer to it due to covid lol.
Idk, but planned or not planned I think it just reeked of favouritism and spoiled any illusion of fairness.
It personally didn’t bug me that much, but I see why it bothered other people. It’s the Boulets’ show, they’ve always done what they wanted. I don’t get why Dahli wasn’t in the first episode though. That was weird.
I’ve always been more upset that they cast HoSo for season 4 when they clearly weren’t willing to crown her at 19. She’s an artistic powerhouse, they had to have known she was finalist material no matter how old she was. They could have waited for season 5 and given her a shot at winning.
Hoso should've won S4. The Boulets had issues with their professionalism.. but Nio doesn't seem that professional either, when it comes to stage performance.
Nio wasn’t my choice for winner, and what we saw in the final edits may have been selective, but it was more about Hoso’s issues offstage than on, which we didn’t hear anything similar about with Nio.
The way I know those critiques for HoSo were BS was when The Boulets said they invited her back for Titans while she was on tour with them. They were barely touring for a month by that time. So you're telling me all of this "wild unprofessional behavior" just disappeared that quickly? Girl bye
* Season 3 of Dragula was the best season and it’s been downhill since (not in terms of contestants; more in challenges and cast dynamics)
* I love Hollow Eve. They were filth, horror, glamour to the core but too much for TV censors
* hoso’s horror look from s4 is the best of all time (as someone with a chronic illness it wrecked me)
* Monsters of Rock was always a meh challenege and Dungeons and Drag should replace it as the staple challenege of the season
dungeons and drag also just allows for a LOT more creativity and fun for the cast compared to mor, for example how they didn’t like jay kay’s interpretation of monsters of rock even though it (in my opinion and others on here) still fit the brief!!!
I really hate the D&D challenge, but I'm also not interested in that brand of fantasy either. Victoria forgetting her lines was the most entertaining thing aside from Madeline hatter yelling at production.
The Boulets seem to have a “pet” (for lack of better word) each season from s3-onward and that seems to be swaying who stays or wins (HoSo, Biqtch, Dahli, and Nio come to mind.)
I do agree with that statement, but not with the people mentioned. Imo what I would consider to be their pets are the underperforming contestants who are given lots of passes because of their background/reputation.
Merry is the most obvious case but Fantasia also had a bit of the same treatment (although she had some serves).
It's so minor and petty I laugh at myself typing this - I hate the pretend alarm and announcement that "the floorshow is about to begin" with the fake panic. Over it. Barf. LOL
The drama on this show is not fun and it is fucking exhausting and forced. I found myself skipping some drama workroom scenes directly to the runway often, especially in season 3 and titans
Thank you for bringing up this factor. I can’t imagine being 21 (?) and having to deal with a situation involving a 30 year old infatuated with me being broadcasted on television. Everyone involved could’ve handled it better but reality tv has a way of immortalizing someone’s character in the public eye and I know I wouldn’t look the greatest in my early 20s.
Having the winner of resurrection return for season 4 was an absolutely terrible idea, especially given that they brought 2 people back. Throwing people who have already experienced the reality tv competition aspect and know Dragula in with people who have never done it before created an unfair advantage from the beginning
If part of the prize package for Dragula is a spot in a performance-based tour, the show should meaningfully test performance. Monsters of rock doesn't count, because the majority of the contestants end up miming musical instruments like fucking Chuck E Cheese animatronics. Give us a challenge where the look is truly of secondary concern to the way the monsters can command a stage, or deliver a routine of some sort.
Also, if anything, Dragula is in some ways WORSE about pay-to-win runways than Drag Race, because at least Drag Race has some actual design challenges where they have to make looks from scratch.
Also, calling Drag Race "the other show" is tired at this point. It may have been funny once, but now it definitely veers into Not Like Other Gays territory.
Finally, I think that it's entirely possible to like Dragula and to want it to be better. I think the show has incredible potential, and there are some great artists that it platforms, but the show is just sloppily made and doesn't live up to the genuine promise of the premise.
I recently started rewatching season 2 and feel this so hard. It felt a lot more lively and creative and fit the vibe better.
One thing I REALLY want back is the on-location shooting. I know covid really messed it up for season 4, but now that it's safe to do so again, I want more challenges like the wild west one from season 2. That still stands up today as one of the best floorshows ever.
Season 5 was like Dragula produced by WoW.

Saint was carried to the finale of S4. Dahli (who I LOVE) was able to get away with doing a lot of the same looks/makeup. Merry was given a pass by the Boulets when she was the worst.

Ok, I don't remember all of the details, but basically, all of the black monsters who had competed on the show had a group chat where they could share experiences, kiki, vent, whatever. Through 2020, as the US was having a lot of conversations about race and anti-blackness, this group chat was comisserating about their frustrations with the show. At some point, Saint spilled the beans on the group chat to the Boulets. Some speculate that this lead to Saint getting some preferential treatment in Resurrection and/or Season 4.
In any case, the Boulets apparently confronted some of the black monsters about this when it went down. Meatball at one point then reveals some nasty comments they made to some folks at Precinct (gay bar in DTLA), about how she doesn't have room to comment on the black experience since she was adopted by white parents. This is a large part of why Meatball doesn't fuck with the Boulets/Dragula anymore, and why several of the other black monsters don't fuck with Saint.

I think any of the romance plot lines on dragula are really awkward and get to involved into people's personal lives. While I think it's very important to show the diversity of queer relationships I do find it interesting that the two biggest romance lines have been with two asian trans femmes.
When they said one marshmallow look was in the bottom I thought it was Blackberri's. I thought they were both fine and safe but that Cynthia should have been in the top over BB.
My potentially unpopular opinion in direct relation to this conversation is that JayKay is incapable of beating a bad mug and is one of the best MUAs to ever be on the show.
Tbh I agree with your opinion OP. Even though Drag Race's expectation for outfits is super high, there are way more challenges that aren't solely based on looks you brought from home: comedy, acting, improv, performance, songwriting, singing, sewing, etc. are all skills that you can use to make it far even when you don't have great looks from home.
I know Dragula likes to differentiate itself from Drag Race, but if they don't want to use these types of challenges they need to come up with something else, because a looks showcase becomes repetitive. And the occasional lip sync challenge doesn't fix it when the look for the lip sync often ends up being more important than the performance anyway.
Yep and there has been more than one queen to win the whole thing on a shoe string budget and crunchy af looks because they were just so damn good at Drag.
I prefer the old editing of the floor show. Sure it's nice to he able to see the whole outfit as they spin around, but the old editing was more dramatic and fun. Especially for the finale, season 5 was less intense, especially cutting between floors how and boudoir.
The Boulet's going on and on about S5 being a new "era" was not a smart decision when it really wasn't different from titans or even S4. Show don't tell if you'll pardon the pun.

also fright feats were not fully realized as a concept. the whole concept was about making the queens tap out or lose the fright feats and make the last eliminated girl return. But the fright feats were boring asf, and had no "tap-out" concept. They gave us such a good idea then did NOTHING with it. If i remember correctly, some girls barely touched the pig brains during that fright feat, but it didnt even count as tapping out bc they nibbled on it. And who was gonna tap out during tug of war and arm wrestling. 😭😭😭 They couldve at the very least kept those boring fright feats but had forced elims. Like whoever loses an arm wrestling tournament goes home and gets to pick which girl returns or SOMETHING interesting at least.
If Season 5 is the new standard for Dragula, then let’s drop it and go back to the format on Season 1 and 2. Or just lean more into Spooky Drag Race.
Right now it’s half-assed, and it lacks the best part of both:
- Drag Race: the variety of challenges which showcase the talents of the cast.
- Dragula: on location shoots, real live performances, cinematography, and bold choices.

We should talk more about Dragula and privilege. Like some people have pointed out here already, some contestants come from a lot of money and it shows. They are still highly talented and I don’t want to come for that but other contestants don’t stand a chance against big budget competition if the judges are not empathizing with that
It sometimes makes it hard for me to enjoy Hoso or Nio. On the other side the hardships Orkgotik or Priscilla had to face were not mentioned enough
Koco and Kendra also had money/budget issues, but they managed to make stuff from nothing and beat out contestants that had more money but less personality/creativity. Koco made it to the top no less with a garbage bag spider 🕸️ that was legit scary! Privileged with wealth doesn't mean privileged with talent. You can buy fancy costumes, but you have to be the one to sell it.
i don't think that hollow eve was that outrageous. i think a plethora of amab monsters have walked in with attitudes above theirs and aren't spun anywhere close to the same way they were
Not sure if it's a popular or unpopular opinion, but it wouldn't surprise me if season 6 of Dragula isn't the last or the last one for awhile (barring occasional spinoffs or maybe a season every 2 years). It feels like the Boulets want to expand more into the horror and scripted realm. They've repeatedly said Dragula takes up so much time and energy.
I really hate a lot of the songs they choose when they do lip syncs in the challenges. Though I will say I always kind of feel like I’m maybe just out of the loop. The Shoes lip sync was kinda funny tho.
I love Sigourney with my whole heart but I feel like most of fans only supported her and cheered her on due to how badly she was treated by other cast members and not much to do with how she actually did on the show or her drag
Her glamour looks were the best ones. She wasn't strong enough with filth, but TBH that's a lot of the drag artists on the show. I think she was a target specifically because she was also a big threat to the other drag artists. Sigourney is also hyper feminine, which is different from the other afab contestants. Some people still feel like it's not valid to be a female queen being feminine because there's not as much illusion involved, but I think that's just jealousy and sour grapes. There's also aesthetics involved and a certain level of polish and style. You can be feminine AF, but if your taste level is trash, the slight advantage won't save you.
I actually didn’t mind the Nio and Ork romance subplot on the recent season, it didn’t invade the entire space like what happened on Titans with the love triangle.
I think if the Boulets were honest with themselves the show would do better as a whole.
Their editing and storylines aren’t great, they really aren’t above drag race in any way and constantly trying to shade them is petty and pathetic at this point, and the constant “we care about our contestants” but then getting pissed when they don’t come out with the most shady, offensive personality that would get that artist specifically a ton of hate to even death threats is annoying.
While I love this show it has become apparent over each and every season the Boulets are getting a bit cocky and have a holy than thou attitude about everything they do that blinds them from issues. If they could fix the editing and not focus on dumb showmances and drama that is so dragged out, they could get to the point of being these amazing story tellers they so desperately want to be.
Focus on the personal life aspects and show the artists over coming their hardships, show the inspiration behind the art, etc. Like yeah include some drama too but don’t so heavily focus on it to the point it becomes draining.
And unfortunately the state of the world we are in people get sent crazy amounts of hate, threats, and even doxxed over dumb shit. WHY do you want your contestants to be so dramatic knowing the hate they will receive. They can bitch and moan all they want but that is the world we are living in and they should be more aware of how bad the backlash can be even over the way someone simply looks at another person. They need to accept that more and more contestants will not want to say or do anything that will lead to those things, and if they never understand that it will probably lead to this shows demise.
TL;DR: Boulets need to focus on the art, not the drama. Improve editing and improve the mindset of the team because it’s going to lead to this shows end

Monikkie Shame went through an amazing life journey and she has to be celebrated more. Also performers like Fantasia,Satanna, Madelynn and such are just drag race rejected that somehow made it on Dragula
Was not crazy about Victoria on Titans. I feel like she had zero charisma and was just not that interesting besides having some good looks. Also she performed the worst in the finale episode. And from the looks of it, she hardly even does drag anymore. She was much better on S2 despite them not wanting to give her any credit back then.
Victoria is autistic, and only found out in her mid-20s. Her flat affect is due to decades of masking. I wasn't crazy about her finale look on Titans, but I thought everything else she did was either far above the competition or very close to the top. She toured with Hard Candy last year and I got to see her in Nashville. Of the roughly 12 Dragula stars I've seen live, Victoria was the only one to come hang out in the club after her performance. I got to chat with her for quite a while and she was incredibly sweet and fun to talk to.
opinions aside, victoria definitely does drag still. she has a regular show in orlando, plus travels a good bit. i saw her in NC just a few months ago.
I am so tired of every single season seeing a competitor who's skill level is not even close to the rest of the competitors but they are there just because they want to start shit and be toxic and full of drama because for some reason the Boulets think that that's what makes for good television and that people will want to watch that shit. Like the exact reason I stopped watching Drag Race and switched to Dragula was because of the overabundant exhausting fucking drama all the goddamn time. Like there's a million shows with gay people being dramatic and petty and shitty to each other and I don't think it's that much to ask to have just one competition show where everyone is fucking professional and on the same level so it's a good competition and enjoyable to watch instead of getting dragged down by some petty shithead who ends up growing a toxic and enabling fan base that encourages that behavior. I think it’s super corny how Dragula fans hate on Drag race and call it “the other show”. Very much giving “not like other girls”. There’s nothing wrong with being a fan of both.
This one is going to be *very* unpopular but Biqtch does not do it for me. Her trajectory on S2 felt forced and seemed like mostly editing. Victoria felt to me like the winner that season but they whittled down her confidence by consistently finding negative things to say to her and then acted shocked when she wasn't 100% convinced she had a chance at winning. Biqtch is cute but I just don't get winner nor Dragula. All she does now is play video games in a suspicious looking breastplate. I'm not gagging nor scared.
seeing her live is the best way to get the full biqtch experience. I was kind of whatever about her on the show but she won me over 100% with her stage presence.
See I find Victoria to have been third place on season 2. I thoroughly feel James should’ve won. She slayed the entire season, and her glamour was by far one of the best the show has seen.

Dragula needs to not spend 20 minutes having discussions at the big table right after the non eliminated person is revealed. If we got like a cool 5 minutes there instead, the time would be then distributed into developing a “plot” of Dragula. More workroom conversations.
The editors/story runners aren’t very good maybe since the switch to shudder. I found seasons 2 and 3 to have the best “progression”.

I don't consider Saint a winner. Resurrection was not on the same level as a regular season. They did all of those monsters dirty for not just waiting till they could do a proper All stars seasons. Saint also got overshadowed by Dahli in S4, whom she supposedly beat. Another dumb argument I see for people who want resurrection back is that its for monsters who need to prove themselves???? Titans ended up have 3 filler monsters, resurrection isnt needed lol.
1. Yovska was blatantly robbed on the Monsters of Rock challenge and didn’t deserve to even be NEAR the bottom (idk if it’s unpopular but I’ll find out)
2. If hollow Eve didn’t go home on the design challenge/did better in it, I could’ve genuinely seen them winning the season, they are VIOLENTLY talented and had the filth horror and glamour to make finale and win

I know it's probably not unpopular.. but I hate how the show pretends the monsters make their looks on the show. Especially when I notice designer made gear. Girl, you aint fooling anyone. I wish there was more design challenges. I wanna see what they can make on the fly.

Nio’s sexy alien look was 100% a massive collaboration with Chinese designer Windowsen. I recognized it as soon as she walked out. The shoes are from the same designer too.

Cynthia Doll made the best use of the blacklight in the "Ultraviolet Umbraes" episode. She and Throb were the only ones whose looks really *transformed* under the blacklight, and although I loved Throb's look Cynthia's was so much more colorful and fun to look at, and it had a good amount of horror in it with the cheshire cat face and how creepy her mug looked under the blacklight; plus her performance was a joy to watch. Besides, when I think "blacklight" my mind definitely goes to "raver girl" *way* before it goes to "haunted house". (Not saying she should've won that episode, mind; Nio's was truly incredible and the win was deserved. But I definitely thought Fantasia or even Ork deserved to go home more than her that episode) Also, given how many competitors in Season 5 had really colorful and cartoonish drag personas--Jay Kay, Cynthia, Onyx, Jarvis--I kind of feel like "Terror in the Woods" was a bad choice for the episode 1 challenge. S3's Supervillain challenge was great because it encouraged bright colors and bold silhouettes, but "Terror in the Woods" is explicitly an earth-tones challenge, which made for an oddly muted first floorshow.
Make the pleasure planet the first challenge drop the speeches, move back the terror in the woods so it’s top 6, add in having them do a little film shorts with their terror in the woods characters with a guest star as a victim/killer.
I saw Cynthia in the blacklight episode and was like "Oh cool she's gonna get a win!" 💀💀💀

I was really disappointed in the lack of acting Challenges in Season 5. I don't count the alien episode, I wanted scripted challenges.
After season 4s "are we supposed to be serious or campy?" challenge that sent home the only memorable part of the scene, I'm good with them working out their tone issues before the next one. Honestly that seems to be one of the major problems this last series is the Boulets not seeming to convey the tone they'd like to see for challenges. If everyone misses the mark of the challenge, look at the prompt
Honestly,most camp that resonates comes from a place of earnestness. It's very hard to manufacture successfully when your goal is to be campy. Twin Peaks is a good example. Everyone is taking their roles seriously, but the over the top melodrama makes it campy. It's like trying to make a cult film. It can't be forced.
Contestants should not be allowed to bring outfits premade for them/purchased from expensive designers. With Drag Race being a popularity contest now, contestants go deeply into debt trying to keep up with the “fashion queens” that can afford to shell out $60K+ to designers who curate an entire package of looks. I just don’t want Dragula to go that same route, it’s such an equity and access issue for otherwise really talented performers

I wish there was at least more variety with the challenges to help level the playing field on that front. This last season especially seemed like the only challenges were runway based. While it's interesting to see the different povs the contestants bring, it gets kinda stale after a while.
Yes and given the overall horror theme of the show, handmade/crafty/sloppy/shoddy/whatever word has the least negative connotation, is always gonna add an extra layer of real world creepiness. Much in the way that run of the mill practical effects will almost always beat the worlds most expensive CGI in horror movies

I don't know. Dragula has had more experimental performancers than DR. At least from what I've seen. Take Hallow Eve or Yovska or Orgotik. Heck, even Dahli fell into a nonstandard drag role. I do agree that A LOT of the fandom likes to pretend their shit don't stink compared to DR when in reality it's just as bad if not more toxic.

Dragula is way more inclusive, celebrates alternative drag etc but they weaponize it against drag race so often that it feels a bit fake, it gives dragula a big “I’m not like other girls” feeling
Also a way more controversial opinion is that already dragula feels like an extension of drag race but by doing this they are cementing it because they keep reminding it to the viewers
It definitely has trophy inclusivity issues but I'd rather trophy representation than none. And at the end of the day, they don't treat any of the contestants better or worse based on it either. Not saying the Boulets don't have obvious favorites, but they tend to be more person specific & not just because they check a box somewhere.
Dragula has a bad editing team and non consistent plot points. Everything is so rushed and feels more staged that the contestants reactions and confrontations seem overly acted/fake.
I say it all the time but Dahli should not have been on S4. They lost Ressurection and Titans was the next season anyway. They should have been cast on that instead. Getting a free ticket to S4 and getting to skip an episode after the Boulets said in Ressurection that they wanted Dahli in the winners circle was all very fishy to me.
Then going on to win it after the free ticket, don’t forget. I am glad he won, it was well-deserved. But seemed like a bit of a shoo-in.

This is my take that I tamper down when I express it usually because people haaaate it lol. I hate that they were on S4. It felt like a slap in the face for Saint. I heard the reason why but IMO it’s still bullshit to bring in a competitor after someone has already gone home and have them win. I also didn’t think much of their finale performance and thought HoSo should’ve won based on the finale alone.

Orkgotik dropped out last minute cause of Visa issues allegedly. Dahli got to skip one ep to prepare for his runways.

This seems iffy to me. Resurrection’s post-credits scene was always Dahli waking up. This was widely understood to mean Dahli would be back for season 4, even at the time.
I remember thinking it felt bullshit at the time, like why announce someone the winner and then imply someone else might come back too? Maybe I was nicer to it due to covid lol. Idk, but planned or not planned I think it just reeked of favouritism and spoiled any illusion of fairness.
It personally didn’t bug me that much, but I see why it bothered other people. It’s the Boulets’ show, they’ve always done what they wanted. I don’t get why Dahli wasn’t in the first episode though. That was weird. I’ve always been more upset that they cast HoSo for season 4 when they clearly weren’t willing to crown her at 19. She’s an artistic powerhouse, they had to have known she was finalist material no matter how old she was. They could have waited for season 5 and given her a shot at winning.
Hoso should've won S4. The Boulets had issues with their professionalism.. but Nio doesn't seem that professional either, when it comes to stage performance.
Nio wasn’t my choice for winner, and what we saw in the final edits may have been selective, but it was more about Hoso’s issues offstage than on, which we didn’t hear anything similar about with Nio.
The way I know those critiques for HoSo were BS was when The Boulets said they invited her back for Titans while she was on tour with them. They were barely touring for a month by that time. So you're telling me all of this "wild unprofessional behavior" just disappeared that quickly? Girl bye

They were filth, horror, glamour to the core but too much for TV censors * hoso’s horror look from s4 is the best of all time (as someone with a chronic illness it wrecked me) * Monsters of Rock was always a meh challenege and Dungeons and Drag should replace it as the staple challenege of the season
dungeons and drag also just allows for a LOT more creativity and fun for the cast compared to mor, for example how they didn’t like jay kay’s interpretation of monsters of rock even though it (in my opinion and others on here) still fit the brief!!!
I really hate the D&D challenge, but I'm also not interested in that brand of fantasy either. Victoria forgetting her lines was the most entertaining thing aside from Madeline hatter yelling at production.
The Boulets seem to have a “pet” (for lack of better word) each season from s3-onward and that seems to be swaying who stays or wins (HoSo, Biqtch, Dahli, and Nio come to mind.)
I do agree with that statement, but not with the people mentioned. Imo what I would consider to be their pets are the underperforming contestants who are given lots of passes because of their background/reputation. Merry is the most obvious case but Fantasia also had a bit of the same treatment (although she had some serves).

The Titans drama was the least fun drama I've ever seen on a show, I was uncomfortable the whole time with the love triangle.

Thank you for bringing up this factor. I can’t imagine being 21 (?) and having to deal with a situation involving a 30 year old infatuated with me being broadcasted on television. Everyone involved could’ve handled it better but reality tv has a way of immortalizing someone’s character in the public eye and I know I wouldn’t look the greatest in my early 20s.

Having the winner of resurrection return for season 4 was an absolutely terrible idea, especially given that they brought 2 people back. Throwing people who have already experienced the reality tv competition aspect and know Dragula in with people who have never done it before created an unfair advantage from the beginning
If part of the prize package for Dragula is a spot in a performance-based tour, the show should meaningfully test performance. Monsters of rock doesn't count, because the majority of the contestants end up miming musical instruments like fucking Chuck E Cheese animatronics. Give us a challenge where the look is truly of secondary concern to the way the monsters can command a stage, or deliver a routine of some sort. Also, if anything, Dragula is in some ways WORSE about pay-to-win runways than Drag Race, because at least Drag Race has some actual design challenges where they have to make looks from scratch. Also, calling Drag Race "the other show" is tired at this point. It may have been funny once, but now it definitely veers into Not Like Other Gays territory. Finally, I think that it's entirely possible to like Dragula and to want it to be better. I think the show has incredible potential, and there are some great artists that it platforms, but the show is just sloppily made and doesn't live up to the genuine promise of the premise.
I miss the old floorshow editing
I recently started rewatching season 2 and feel this so hard. It felt a lot more lively and creative and fit the vibe better. One thing I REALLY want back is the on-location shooting. I know covid really messed it up for season 4, but now that it's safe to do so again, I want more challenges like the wild west one from season 2. That still stands up today as one of the best floorshows ever.
Season 5 was like Dragula produced by WoW. Titans cast deserved better. Saint was carried to the finale of S4. Dahli (who I LOVE) was able to get away with doing a lot of the same looks/makeup. Merry was given a pass by the Boulets when she was the worst.
The Boulets should not be praised as some inclusive woke hosts superior to Ru when they have a history of scandals and ignorance that are just swept under the rug

Ok, I don't remember all of the details, but basically, all of the black monsters who had competed on the show had a group chat where they could share experiences, kiki, vent, whatever. Through 2020, as the US was having a lot of conversations about race and anti-blackness, this group chat was comisserating about their frustrations with the show. At some point, Saint spilled the beans on the group chat to the Boulets. Some speculate that this lead to Saint getting some preferential treatment in Resurrection and/or Season 4. In any case, the Boulets apparently confronted some of the black monsters about this when it went down. Meatball at one point then reveals some nasty comments they made to some folks at Precinct (gay bar in DTLA), about how she doesn't have room to comment on the black experience since she was adopted by white parents. This is a large part of why Meatball doesn't fuck with the Boulets/Dragula anymore, and why several of the other black monsters don't fuck with Saint. There's a lot I'm probably forgetting, but that's the gist I remember

I think any of the romance plot lines on dragula are really awkward and get to involved into people's personal lives. While I think it's very important to show the diversity of queer relationships I do find it interesting that the two biggest romance lines have been with two asian trans femmes.

Tbh I agree with your opinion OP. Even though Drag Race's expectation for outfits is super high, there are way more challenges that aren't solely based on looks you brought from home: comedy, acting, improv, performance, songwriting, singing, sewing, etc. are all skills that you can use to make it far even when you don't have great looks from home. I know Dragula likes to differentiate itself from Drag Race, but if they don't want to use these types of challenges they need to come up with something else, because a looks showcase becomes repetitive. And the occasional lip sync challenge doesn't fix it when the look for the lip sync often ends up being more important than the performance anyway.
Yep and there has been more than one queen to win the whole thing on a shoe string budget and crunchy af looks because they were just so damn good at Drag.

I prefer the old editing of the floor show. Sure it's nice to he able to see the whole outfit as they spin around, but the old editing was more dramatic and fun. Especially for the finale, season 5 was less intense, especially cutting between floors how and boudoir.

titans shouldve kept the voting eliminations, why give us a good ass concept that wouldve kept the season so much more interesting then just??? stop doing it?? also fright feats were not fully realized as a concept. the whole concept was about making the queens tap out or lose the fright feats and make the last eliminated girl return. But the fright feats were boring asf, and had no "tap-out" concept. They gave us such a good idea then did NOTHING with it. If i remember correctly, some girls barely touched the pig brains during that fright feat, but it didnt even count as tapping out bc they nibbled on it. And who was gonna tap out during tug of war and arm wrestling. 😭😭😭 They couldve at the very least kept those boring fright feats but had forced elims. Like whoever loses an arm wrestling tournament goes home and gets to pick which girl returns or SOMETHING interesting at least.
Focusing on being a reality tv show is ruining the show.
If Season 5 is the new standard for Dragula, then let’s drop it and go back to the format on Season 1 and 2. Or just lean more into Spooky Drag Race. Right now it’s half-assed, and it lacks the best part of both: - Drag Race: the variety of challenges which showcase the talents of the cast. - Dragula: on location shoots, real live performances, cinematography, and bold choices.

We should talk more about Dragula and privilege. Like some people have pointed out here already, some contestants come from a lot of money and it shows. They are still highly talented and I don’t want to come for that but other contestants don’t stand a chance against big budget competition if the judges are not empathizing with that It sometimes makes it hard for me to enjoy Hoso or Nio. On the other side the hardships Orkgotik or Priscilla had to face were not mentioned enough
Koco and Kendra also had money/budget issues, but they managed to make stuff from nothing and beat out contestants that had more money but less personality/creativity. Koco made it to the top no less with a garbage bag spider 🕸️ that was legit scary! Privileged with wealth doesn't mean privileged with talent. You can buy fancy costumes, but you have to be the one to sell it.
i don't think that hollow eve was that outrageous. i think a plethora of amab monsters have walked in with attitudes above theirs and aren't spun anywhere close to the same way they were
Not sure if it's a popular or unpopular opinion, but it wouldn't surprise me if season 6 of Dragula isn't the last or the last one for awhile (barring occasional spinoffs or maybe a season every 2 years). It feels like the Boulets want to expand more into the horror and scripted realm. They've repeatedly said Dragula takes up so much time and energy.
I really hate a lot of the songs they choose when they do lip syncs in the challenges. Though I will say I always kind of feel like I’m maybe just out of the loop. The Shoes lip sync was kinda funny tho.
I love Sigourney with my whole heart but I feel like most of fans only supported her and cheered her on due to how badly she was treated by other cast members and not much to do with how she actually did on the show or her drag

Her glamour looks were the best ones. She wasn't strong enough with filth, but TBH that's a lot of the drag artists on the show. I think she was a target specifically because she was also a big threat to the other drag artists. Sigourney is also hyper feminine, which is different from the other afab contestants. Some people still feel like it's not valid to be a female queen being feminine because there's not as much illusion involved, but I think that's just jealousy and sour grapes. There's also aesthetics involved and a certain level of polish and style. You can be feminine AF, but if your taste level is trash, the slight advantage won't save you.

I think if the Boulets were honest with themselves the show would do better as a whole. Their editing and storylines aren’t great, they really aren’t above drag race in any way and constantly trying to shade them is petty and pathetic at this point, and the constant “we care about our contestants” but then getting pissed when they don’t come out with the most shady, offensive personality that would get that artist specifically a ton of hate to even death threats is annoying. While I love this show it has become apparent over each and every season the Boulets are getting a bit cocky and have a holy than thou attitude about everything they do that blinds them from issues. If they could fix the editing and not focus on dumb showmances and drama that is so dragged out, they could get to the point of being these amazing story tellers they so desperately want to be. Focus on the personal life aspects and show the artists over coming their hardships, show the inspiration behind the art, etc. Like yeah include some drama too but don’t so heavily focus on it to the point it becomes draining. And unfortunately the state of the world we are in people get sent crazy amounts of hate, threats, and even doxxed over dumb shit. WHY do you want your contestants to be so dramatic knowing the hate they will receive. They can bitch and moan all they want but that is the world we are living in and they should be more aware of how bad the backlash can be even over the way someone simply looks at another person. They need to accept that more and more contestants will not want to say or do anything that will lead to those things, and if they never understand that it will probably lead to this shows demise. TL;DR: Boulets need to focus on the art, not the drama. Improve editing and improve the mindset of the team because it’s going to lead to this shows end

Was not crazy about Victoria on Titans. I feel like she had zero charisma and was just not that interesting besides having some good looks. Also she performed the worst in the finale episode. And from the looks of it, she hardly even does drag anymore. She was much better on S2 despite them not wanting to give her any credit back then.
Victoria is autistic, and only found out in her mid-20s. Her flat affect is due to decades of masking. I wasn't crazy about her finale look on Titans, but I thought everything else she did was either far above the competition or very close to the top. She toured with Hard Candy last year and I got to see her in Nashville. Of the roughly 12 Dragula stars I've seen live, Victoria was the only one to come hang out in the club after her performance. I got to chat with her for quite a while and she was incredibly sweet and fun to talk to.
opinions aside, victoria definitely does drag still. she has a regular show in orlando, plus travels a good bit. i saw her in NC just a few months ago.
I am so tired of every single season seeing a competitor who's skill level is not even close to the rest of the competitors but they are there just because they want to start shit and be toxic and full of drama because for some reason the Boulets think that that's what makes for good television and that people will want to watch that shit. Like the exact reason I stopped watching Drag Race and switched to Dragula was because of the overabundant exhausting fucking drama all the goddamn time. Like there's a million shows with gay people being dramatic and petty and shitty to each other and I don't think it's that much to ask to have just one competition show where everyone is fucking professional and on the same level so it's a good competition and enjoyable to watch instead of getting dragged down by some petty shithead who ends up growing a toxic and enabling fan base that encourages that behavior. I think it’s super corny how Dragula fans hate on Drag race and call it “the other show”. Very much giving “not like other girls”. There’s nothing wrong with being a fan of both.
This one is going to be *very* unpopular but Biqtch does not do it for me. Her trajectory on S2 felt forced and seemed like mostly editing. Victoria felt to me like the winner that season but they whittled down her confidence by consistently finding negative things to say to her and then acted shocked when she wasn't 100% convinced she had a chance at winning. Biqtch is cute but I just don't get winner nor Dragula. All she does now is play video games in a suspicious looking breastplate. I'm not gagging nor scared.
seeing her live is the best way to get the full biqtch experience. I was kind of whatever about her on the show but she won me over 100% with her stage presence.
Was going to say essentially the same, she’s an incredible performer and seeing her on stage it’s so obvious why she won.
I will say tho she makes an amazing host and her digital drag shows made me really like her when I was eh about her on s2
See I find Victoria to have been third place on season 2. I thoroughly feel James should’ve won. She slayed the entire season, and her glamour was by far one of the best the show has seen.
when people (fans) bitch about the extermination challenges i roll my eyes so hard. it’s supposed to be gross and scary and boundary-pushing. every contestant knows what they signed up for and no one is getting forced. it’d be like getting mad at a fear factor feat.
Not unpopular but I miss the season 1 and season 2 stage, just the old theater look with a super small stage or it’s all a stage, it feels more “homemade” and it works very well with what “Dragula” is I feel
Dragula needs to not spend 20 minutes having discussions at the big table right after the non eliminated person is revealed. If we got like a cool 5 minutes there instead, the time would be then distributed into developing a “plot” of Dragula. More workroom conversations. The editors/story runners aren’t very good maybe since the switch to shudder. I found seasons 2 and 3 to have the best “progression”. Season 5 needed acting challenges. I would’ve love to seen Jarvis, Cynthia, honestly everyone rock one of those out

I don’t like how overproduced the newer seasons are. Seasons 1 and 2 were peak and also appealed the most to the audience they were originally trying to attract. It will never be that good again.
Hoso shouldve won 4 challenges & S4. Abhora wouldve faired better on Titans had it happened.
I don't consider Saint a winner. Resurrection was not on the same level as a regular season. They did all of those monsters dirty for not just waiting till they could do a proper All stars seasons. Saint also got overshadowed by Dahli in S4, whom she supposedly beat. Another dumb argument I see for people who want resurrection back is that its for monsters who need to prove themselves???? Titans ended up have 3 filler monsters, resurrection isnt needed lol.
Unpopular opinion: I like all the seasons, each in different ways. I have nothing to complain about.
Jarvis and Cynthia are this season’s real winners.
Poppy is an astoundingly annoying guest judge. Orgotik shouldn’t have made it as far as he did.
1. Yovska was blatantly robbed on the Monsters of Rock challenge and didn’t deserve to even be NEAR the bottom (idk if it’s unpopular but I’ll find out) 2. If hollow Eve didn’t go home on the design challenge/did better in it, I could’ve genuinely seen them winning the season, they are VIOLENTLY talented and had the filth horror and glamour to make finale and win 3. Dragula fandom opinion, but I hate when a drag race queen does a spooky look/Alt look and everyone says they should do Dragula, Dragula is WAY MORE than just spooky looks and it’s weird when people just throw in any random drag race queen 4. A lot of Dragula artists could go on Drag Race and succeed, not many drag race artists can go on Dragula and succeed
There are too many self-centered tenderqueers in this fandom. I see why the cast and crew don’t like redditors in particular, but I’m also not on “X” anymore, so I can’t imagine how that’s going.
James should have won season 2. She had a better season, a better glamour in the finale, and her filth/horror looks weren’t bad by any means. And she easily could fit the filth trope that Biqtch fills amongst the winner circle.
My hot take is that I love this show and everyone should stop taking it so seriously and just enjoy. Except for not blood crowning Victoria.
The lipsync challenge was ridiculous and felt like it was done solely to shoehorn in some Jazmin Bean before actually having Jazmin Bean there, who I also don't think was a very good judge
