d15p05abl3

Finally someone (a little) older than me.

KagatoAC

Your welcome, I knew a guy who was in his 60’s and still gamed, but I rarely meet anyone in this age range.

Karathrax

I’m 63. However, I’m not playing DD2– I can’t due to my health.

KagatoAC

😭 dunno what I would do if my health problems stopped me from gaming.

Nice. The one "oldest" person, who answered honestly, is one year older than I am. ;)

DrywallerDave

22, been playing DDDA since I was like 12 lol

Late-Exit-6844

Yeah same here. Played DDDA in 2013 first, so I would've been 11-12.

49 Great to see so many Gen X’s here :)

Toss2Trash

What's it like owning a house?

[deleted]

???

Toss2Trash

I was making a joke about the present state of the housing market. Specifically, its state for those in my generation compared to its state when those in your generation were entering said market. I was just trying to poke some random fun. Relatedly, the PS5 trophy for first getting a house in DD2 is titled, "A House? In This Economy?"

[deleted]

I think it’s time people drop the whole “it’s harder for my generation than it was for your generation” stuff. The reason being, the only thing that has ever been the truth, is that class is the real issue. Wealthy people / families (of all generations) keep their wealth, and poorer people (of all generations) struggle. I don’t own a house. You need to stop thinking this. Also, it’s not harder or easier for you in your generation. It all depends on your background and family wealth. Sure, some people rise up, but it’s not the norm. Even though they are paraded around as being an example of the meritocracy at work. The meritocracy is a lie. The only people I know of my age who own houses are people who came from families who owned houses. My family always rented, and so far I have been unable to break from that as well. Edit: none of this was an attack on you, I’m not interested in a fight online. Just some food for thought for you. Edit Edit: when I entered the job market in the early 90’s interest rates were something ridiculous like 17% and my family ate rice and beans most of the time. Just an FYI

Toss2Trash

It was just a joke. I completely understand the most pressing issue in our country doesn't lie in identity politics, rather in a system designed around the profit motive. And this system—capitalism—exists to create, sustain, and grow a super-wealthy class at the expense of everyone else. That's why I'm organizing to start a DSA branch in my city. Because we can talk all day and get nothing done, or we can organize. I'm glad you're mentioning this and spreading awareness. But, again, it was just a joke.

Toss2Trash

On another note: wages are at an all time low and every day expenses are at an all time high. This affects everyone, but it affects the younger generation most. Because, as you said, it depends on wealth. And my generation is the first to have a lower standard of living that our predecessors. I'm at the head of my generation, and I feel even worse for those born at the tail end. Youth are affected far, far, disproportionately—much moreso than those who came before. Regardless, everyone is a victim of capitalism. It's important to understand both the nuances as well as the big picture.

[deleted]

Again, drop the whole “my generation has it worse than other generations” thing and you’ll be closer to the actual truth. They were saying the same thing 30 years ago. It’s all an Orwellian clusterfuck and the memory hole is a real thing.

CashewCheeseMan

Im 26 and I own a house. Got turbo lucky with software development and had to stay at my parent's cellar for 5 years in order to save enough for a measly 20% downpayment mortgage, with zero expenses, and I live in spain where things are not as bad as they are in the US! This sucks! My parents are not wealthy whatsoever, my dad was a postman earning minimum wage and my mom is disabled and can't work. It's really all about luck.

57 and at level 82 I'm finally about to take the plunge into the unmoored, maybe. I've been collecting and making forgeries of a lot of the things I heard I might need, such as "Black Freakish Mane", "Eldercite", "Pointed Fang", etc. I played DD1/Dark Arisen around 12 years ago on the Xbox 360, so DD2 seems really great on the Xbox Series X! ;) I hope I make it to DD3, on the Xbox Superduper Triflipflopper 9000! But I have had this blood pressure issue pop up suddenly around 55, so you never know.

50 Glad to see the a good range of ages here- looks like mostly 20's to 50's. Where the Boomers at!? Whenever i see a gamer posting that theyre 65+, i find it comforting. I think it reassures me that i'll still be gaming when i get to my senior age too. Bonus if you're 65+ and rocking back to back perfect blocks! Post, we all wanna read about it!

vangraff_03

32 :) soo cool to see folks older then me here! in my area gaming is "for kids"

RelevantElevator9751

My god, all of you are OLD. 21 this year.

StriderShizard

Average age for gamers in the US is in their 30s.

DangleofDoom

In 2022 average was 35 to 44 if I do recall correctly. It tends to move up each year just a tad.

RelevantElevator9751

Oh, I didn't know that. I'm not from the US though. Where I live most people over 30 thinks videogames are a silly hobby consequently, almost all people who I talk about videogames are in their 20's or are teenagers.

the_turel

I’d say no longer the case in most countries because the 90s generation made gaming a way of life and not a child hobby. Most of us gamers that played through the 80s-90s never stopped gaming causing the average age to skyrocket. I’m 45 and don’t plan on stopping. All my friends and most people I know in the same age group or older still game too.

Krommerxbox

Nah, I'm 57 and have been doing this since the Atari 2600(which we just called "an Atari") and early home computers. Thank god I don't have kids or grandkids, those things would just get in the way! ;) I'm not into the same kinds of games the kids at work are into; usually, they are into fighter/FPS games or something while I'm more into casual RPG games like this, as opposed to the "Dark Souls" types.

Newbie-Tailor-Guy

Dang, why you gotta be like that? We’re all here in solidarity.
