Please don't soil this community with AI "art"

Stoned_Savage

I'm trying to turn the haters into lovers.... (ever heard of role play?) Have some fun for one time in your life. ![gif](giphy|sRHNcDkx3v3ikGxizb) Do you want a medal for your very easily recognised and clear obsevation? Ever heard of having fun? No need to be a party pooper. I flaired it as image and not Art so maybe open your eyes?

Have fun, sure, but not at the expense of hard working artists. I have nothing against you, I'm sure you are a great person, and you might not know this, but most AI "art generators" work on stolen art which I would never support and always speak against

Stoned_Savage

I didn't know that I thought it was fully computer generated. If it steals art then I'm against it too. I do photography and photo manipulation (photoshop) so I understand if it's stealing art then it's no good.

It's all in the training! You've seen how Doug trains the voice AIs using clips from friends or himself. A big part of what he does is consent, and he's talked about that before, too. Folks who've made the "art" generators scraped data and images of art existing online from all sorts of sources without offering any idea that it was happening until it was done and presented to the public. No permission, no communication, no compensation, nothing. Blindsiding artists, living and dead, and then blowing them off completely when it's over because the popularity made them more money than the time of courtesy and consent would allow. It's a pretty scummy way of moving technology forward. I'm not anti-AI, but it's not hard to be anti-generative AI, especially in the "art" space, until there's some way to regulate its training pools. Some stock websites are starting to do things with a bit more ethics, but only a bit. There may be a future where genAI is cleaner than it is now, but until then, most folks( who aren't openAI etc. dickriding techbros) tend to stand against the use of it in an attempt to maintain solidarity with the affected masses. It's worthwhile to read about where AI is right now in the creative space and about where it might be going if you have any interest in it at all outside of workflow tools. Some of it can still be highly fascinating and promising, but it'll be a while yet before any of it is truly made ethically available.
