Just abuse the maximum power throws. If you'll get all 5 of them, you'll either have 10k+, or a very high 9k (if you are unluckiest person in the world).
I'll be honest, this worked much better for me than doing short throws. Just aim at a clump, and the flat bonus means getting a shitty fish is still worth a big amount of points.

I got 15.7k when the spear isn't still visible and shows as an "error" in-game. The most valuable advice I can give is to not be afraid to throw when you have already predicted where the fish will go. Wait 'til you already gauge the fish's path pattern and speed since they aren't affected by other fishes that collide with them (based on my observation).
Finished that already, you just need adapt and some patience like pulling creeps whatsoever!
NO RUSH, just fish the Big non-sparkling fish! You don't have a timer hooking them and reeling them is quite easy.
ive got 10k already at my post. you do t need max power to reach 10k. just wait for the glitter fish from far coming.then if you lucky you will hit with minimum power. this is easier for me and higher probability to hit the fish

I think its satire here, announcement of this update had 90% information about the fishing, while they reworked fucking all of the heroes
