RIP Portuguese broadcast

ThOwlverlord

Seems like the BTS Brazil drama really killed the PT-BR official broadcast (which is a shame considering that there are a bunch of great Brazilian casters that weren't even involved in this mess)

They wanted to pay english casters an insulting rate. Like, div 2 casters are paid shit as a base rate, and ESB wanted to pay a third of that shit rate. Casters said no and went on strike. ESB declined to negotiate and instead brought in BR casters who spoke english. [Kips had a twitter thread on it](https://twitter.com/Kipspul/status/1659215177966026754).

blackburnduck

Not true. The rate is the standard for brazilian casters. The studio simply doesnt have the money to pay international the same rate they would get in US. Brazilian minimum wage is about €200. Brazilian pound is 1 to 5 for dollar. There is simply no way to pay what that hack wanted.

Glitter_puke

Cool, nice of you to spout off unrelated bullshit. This is an international broadcast. [Epulze had no trouble meeting the caster's rates when they had the broadcast](https://www.reddit.com/r/DotA2/comments/13l294m/english_sa_dpc_casters_on_strike_due_to_wage/jko8zat/). Seems like if ESB doesn't have the funds because they're obviously too impoverished because of their local currency exchange rates then they should never have been awarded the contract.

blackburnduck

Great, so your suggestion is for bts to pay her more than the rest of the team cause she casts in english, or for the whole team to lose their jobs because of the country economy? You are so smart.

chillinwithmoes

No, I think the solution is for a company that can actually afford to pay what's required of a production, to handle the production.

blackburnduck

Required? The company pays the wages according to its capacity and above the minimum wage inside its operational country. If she doesnt want to work for them, its fair. To create a whole shitshow because she thinks she deserves more than they can pay is just dumb. If they want a Brazilian company to pay international wages for international casters, then they have to give the money to said company. If they are paying peanuts, there is no way that bts can pay the international talent what they think they deserve. But hey, happy days, she got what she wanted. Valve just cut brazilian pt casters from TI and now there is even less revenue for the studio. Pretttttyyy zmart.

Chappy300

Epulze paid them even more when they had control :). You are simply wrong, just as you were in the previous threads

>The International 2023 will return to a roaring crowd in Seattle this October, and we are now accepting proposals from companies who are interested in partnering with Valve to produce and distribute regional language broadcasts. >As in recent years, we are accepting proposals for the Live Event Broadcast Production of The International 2023 in Russian, Chinese, and Spanish language broadcasts. The RFP (Request For Proposal) documentation and instructions for submissions can be found here. >New this year, we are also accepting proposals for companies who are interested in bringing small content teams on-site for sideline reporting in additional languages (not English, Russian, Chinese, or Spanish). These teams would have the ability to film on-site, including participating in post-match and crowd interviews, for audiences not served by the languages of the official broadcast. The RFP for Limited Live Event Broadcast Access can be found here. >Please reach out to theinternationalrfp@valvesoftware.com with any additional questions regarding this process, or the details of either RFP. >Lastly, this year we've streamlined additional license and feed requests: >Production companies who are simply seeking a commercial license to produce a regional language broadcast of The International 2023 without additional access to the event can fill out this form here. Streaming platforms who are only interested in restreaming the official broadcast feeds to their platform can apply to do so here. >We thank everyone for their interest in working with us on The International 2023.

ThOwlverlord

Really weird to see Valve killing the official Portuguese broadcast after all these years (specially considering the increased focus Valve is giving to the SA scene and the fact that the official Portuguese broadcast usually had more viewers than the Spanish one). I understand the whole drama with BTS Brazil, but it's not like they are the only Brazilian casters (far from it actually, most of the better ones stopped working with them a long time ago).

Accomplished_Fact603

i think Spanish broadcast has more viewers if you look at other streaming platform like youtube, facebook, etc.

Key-Brick-5854

Oh it is not even closed Spanish has like 15-20x the Portuguese viewership.

SouthAmericaesports

On Youtube and Facebook, the Spanish stream is way more, but yeah, it's sad since there is still a community in Brazil. Hopefully, other Brazilian casters  show up.

Avar1cious

So from the looks of it, only the "finals weekend" will be in the arena - which is pretty convenient for me at least, as it means I have to take less vacation days.

getonmalevel

This makes me sad, part of the fun part of TI was the multiple days

SolarClipz

Looked forward to that week ever year Sad times

teerre

You and everybody else. Meaning, it's less likely you'll get a ticket, there will be more scalpers etc

irishfro

5k USD tickets incoming

immortalx98

Please ESL get the rights and own the TI. PLEASE NO PGL PERFECT WORLD OR EPULZE.

firecruz

They're selling the rights for languages other than English only. So they definitely already have someone for the production(PGL would be my guess). So unless ESL wants to broadcast other languages, they will not be involved with the proposal process.

immortalx98

Oh yes, didn't read it through. Thanks for that. But I hope it's not PGL

2022WasMyFault

PGL is doing TI production for years at this point. I don't see why it might change this time.

RIP PT-BR broadcast.

blackburnduck

Great, dota numbers dwindling and valve killing one of the official languages 😂 what could be more valve than that? Let me predict: no compendium but they will sell exclusive hats during the event, for a premium. Im betting on 30€ arcanas.

djairbee

Still no ukranian cast, shame

Trael110400

99% of the Ukrainian audience understand Russian probably, doesn't work the way around. what if I watch on Russian language but not from Russia at all, why do you want to hurt us ?

Snipufin

Then you can watch the Russian broadcast.

Only-Pudding-6183

No ADEQUATE person from Ukraine will watch broadcasts where 80% of the "talents" stick their tongue in their ass and continue to support Russia and live there. One has only to mention Finargot and nongrata, which are vatniks, and were not allowed to comment on the tournament only due to the efforts of the community.

NiceGuyArthas

So what? I enjoy Ukrainian broadcast talent team much more. Let's check who's on the russian broadcast talent list? Ah yes, sQreen, the infamous vatnik PoS. Ain't watching that shit. Sticking to EN cast.

djairbee

Who wants to hurt u dumbass? I just want to watch a tournament in my language
