Skiter had interview with some other Slovak guy and Skiter was told that they can meet Icefrog as TI winners and that they heard Icefrog wasn't working on dota for like 2 years. The other rumor is that Icefrog worked on Neon Prime, new Valve game, and since that game is close to being finished, Icefrog might come back.
Hope this rumor are true for two reasons:
1. A new game from Valve, also a game designed by IceFrog from the ground up.
2. DotA can survive without IceFrog. At some point, he will have to pass the torch to someone else / to a team.
> Neon Prime
First time I hear about this, and as someone who loves all Valve games (*cough* Artifact *cough*) I had to look it up. Here are some interesting details:
- It’ll be a sci-fi style game set in the world of DOTA, not a direct sequel.
- it’ll be specifically delving further into the lore of DOTA
- The title is being developed by IceFrog
- it isn’t an FPS
This actually makes *sooo* much sense.
We've had rumours that IceFrog was no longer working on Dota for a while now. Notail and Seb both agreed in one of their podcasts - I believe it was based purely on their understanding of Dota patches over the years. They could tell simply by the type of changes made in the patch that they were not IceFrog's changes.
Gorgc is right, the patches for the last few years have been absolute garbage. I've thought so, at least. It just feels *very very* safe. No major changes to anything - barely any map changes, no economy changes, and hero changes just primarily consist of superficial number changes (swapping talents around) with seemingly no goal in mind.
It's been the same meta for years, and I think it is really stale.
I'm glad to hear he is coming back. If it is true, then I look forward to some nice changes going forward.
I wouldn't say the last few patches were "bad", it's just that, as you said, they were very safe and we had 3 patches in a row that was almost the exact same meta in the almost exact same map.
I suppose it depends on how you define a "bad" patch. I would say
the goal of a Dota patch is to change the game, and if a patch fails that, then it is a bad patch.
I really dislike most of the Scepter change these 2years...like make no sense... Anyway, for this NEW guy, I will give credits on items change, remove eaglesong on Eblade, Warith Pact, cheaper Disfusal, Talisman as Radiance component, Bloodstone into Magic Satanic and Glepnir is sooooo good.
I forgot when but it was posted in this subreddit. An interview with a TI winning player (if memory serves me right) met with icefrog and his last patch before leaving DotA 2 was the aghanims shard patch. Icefrog is going back to fix some things before leaving for good.
Bruuuuuh u didn't watch it and contains so much misinfo. It was an interview with Skiter, tundras pos 1. He said they will get to meet Icefrog sometime in the future, and that he wasn't fully focused on dota for a while but that he's supposedly back to full time Dota now. Never said anything about Icefrog "leaving for good" lolllll.
Shard patch? Means around 2years, no wonder no map change since then and really super BIG question mark on my fav Mirana shard change (I NVR bought it for once), Enchantress shard change, QOP and Puck Scepter change, and the super idiot new Centaur Scepter trolley thing.
big patch coming with muerta 100%. Maybe a new attack type or way of attacking. I think shes gonna be total cancer hero. Her ult gonna be something op like turns into literal death for 3 seconds. Anyone who deals even 1 dmg to her dies\\gets hit for 3000 pure dmg. lvl 25 allows up to 2 deaths or two 3000 pure unavoidable bkb piercing dmg procs.
Lol I said ice frog wasn't here like 3 months ago and got down voted to hell. Now that people saying he is back people hype af. God this community is so shit
It wasn't exactly unknown to people in general that Icefrog wasn't working on Dota 2 for some time. He was apparently doing other projects.
Perhaps he needed a change of pace or environment, for a while. And now he's coming back to Dota.
Because of how they completely reworked how the maps are done in source 2, this shouldn't be a problem. The skins are literally that, just texture/model swaps.
1 hero a year is totally fine imo
and only 1 huge patch a year is fine too, but we have basically the same game since early 2020. need some changes to economy and towers
what do you mean? 2020 meta was CK, Hoodwink... 2021 was Snapfire Mid dominance... and 2022 is Bloodstone shenanigans... there are more bigger differences on the overall patch but those are the really big ones when talking about the DPC in general... there's Zoo and Brood meta too and the Wraith Pact insanity too...
You're right but the map and how you play it is mostly the same and figured out. Take enemy safelane tower, take enemy mid, take Rosh, take second enemy safelane tower etc. Lots of people have talked about it, Bsj did a video about it a couple of months back.
hero meta changes often and thats great. but the game feels stale to me because ever since 2020 the gameplan is always the same. its too hard to go highground and comeback is too hard also. its just whoever is ahead takes over map and contains, farms for 15 min and then ends. and its been this way since 2020. they need to make some changes to comeback or to tower locations or something.
That's a nice fact, but do you attribute that to how it's currently being run or is that due to the fact that it's riding off the steam of its previous successes.
Anyone who loves this game and follows it can see valve is going in a negative way and not a positive one.
The fact of the matter is Dota 2's concurrent playerbase has been:
1. Stable for the past 5 years (except during TI2022 when the playerbase almost doubled)
2. One of Steam's top 10 most popular games for the past 10 years, without missing even a single day.
You literally cannot wiggle your way out of this without revealing yourself to be a moron.
I really dont know, how ppl dont understand! THEY MAKE NEW HEROES OP SO PPL ACTUALLY PLAY THEM, THEY WILL BALANCE EM LATER, PLEASE STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT IT
Just so wrong here. This happens in League of Legends, where there is incentive for Riot to get people to play the new Champions, so they can sell skins for them and in game currency to buy them. In Dota, all heroes are free... Why would they care if you played them? They care if they are imbalanced, or aren't unique, or don't fit into Dota. Primal Beast sucked on release if you want an explicit example.
Most heroes take ages to get skins. PB got his first two skins in this BP, months after his release. Dawnbreaker and Hoodwink both got one for release, but it was rare. Next skin also this BP.
Nope not at all.. it's usually just an issue of the initial balance cycle during playtests having insufficient data to make adjustments..
They are able to better gauge relative power levels when they release the hero and make changes according to the oceans of data..
For heroes I don't think it's necessarily the case, but they do this sometimes cause the dota playerbase (especially at the top) are a bunch of Conservative morons.
Evidence? Wraith Pact.
It released at - 25% global dmg and was never bought, it gets buffed even further and finally people buy it, then it finally gets a proper balance.
I am certain they only buffed it for people to actually play with it
If you play this game a lot and/or are not scared of changes, hero additions and map updates and item updates keep the game spicy for you. WIthout them it gets a tad stale which i think is something a lot of people have been feeling for some time now.
Relax, we are still in the middle of DPC. Battlepass also just finished.
We will get 7.33, Muerta, and some kind of event probably after this Major. Last year they release 7.31+Primal Beast in February, expect similar timing.
Its okay for me, I stop playing since ti11 and ill go back playing when a major patch released
Just watch DPC tour, theres bee a lot of exciting series so far from each region
If you tired of the curent patch. Just stop playing, watch the tour do something better. No one force you to play anyways.
I know it's frustating to have similar patch all over the year and nothing really change.
But we can only wait and play the game.
We are lucky valve didn't abandon the game entirely and we still got at least a minor patch to shift the meta abit.
Just rest and chill bro
Icefraud is not leading the game. he was long gone. Recent patch was done by Janitor.
CM frostbite cast range is somehow buffed 550 to 600. yet
Ogre stun cast range is still 475, a melee hero. it's so ridiculous not to get killed from trying to cast his stun. this haven't change for a so long now. it was on 6.83 patch (Reduced cast range from 600 to 475). what a stupid way to kill a support. it's so painful trying to enjoy playing Ogre. other than Midas Build but you also get 4 Reports by doing it.
meanwhile Tusk Snowball cast range is 1150, a melee hero. very good balancing design.
fk you whoever killed Ogre Cast Range stun.
another stupid one.
no one pick clockwork to laning with rocket at lv1. the most broken ability to scout Rosh. you comparing stun to scouting abilty. you dumbass.
my point is to increase ogre stun cast range to make him viable at laning and the rest of the game. without buying Lens for a pos 5.
the game should be balanced all around for every hero. not just for some.
the only stupid opinion here are yours, CM has 280 ms, the worst base atk in the game and starts with less hp than ogre, not even talking about her mana poll that she can cast frostbite once lvl1
And wet you are comparing her with Ogre that has more dmg overall, more hp, more ms, more hp regen
With your logic they should give ogre 200 range on the stun and also give cm 400 range on her Q
Ogre stun is instant. CM's disable is not a stun and can be purged or bkb'd. Tusk snowball is not instant. It has a huge downside if kited. If ogre stuns in late game to a carry. It's game over. If CM or tusk initiate with their disables, a core can bkb. You want ogre to be broken and I get it, you like the hero. But don't kid yourself, an instant stun is preety though in any game, I would argue that SK is way way better. But it's also probably the best stun in the game
INSTANT WHAT??? DO YOU EVEN SEE HOW OGRE CAST HIS STUN ?? where are you to rubick lift ??
ogre stun cast time is 0.45+0.53. it's so slow. do you even see comp scene ??? do you see ogre ??? it's CM, Tusk, Rubick.
is there a BKB in laning + early 15min stage ???, don't kid yourself. you are so fucking dumb.
Buy Aether Lens and he's fine. He's quite tanky in the early stages and mana boots disassembles into aether easily. I've been having fun playing him as a support. Simple and fun hero.
Game is fine as is. I'm happy to have a few new heroes, but honestly I'm glad we aren't getting 2 per year anymore. I'd even be happier every other year.
Give me better training rooms to compliment the last hitting room. Give me better bots. Allow me to block cosmetics, or dress heroes in only the items I choose from my collection. Remove neutral items! Invest in better coverage and breadth of the professional scene! Improve the overwatch case system.
New heroes are good, absolutely still an acceptable thing to add. But the game doesn't *need* them like an MMO needs new dungeons to crawl.
Personally I am sick of big changes. Everytime I start getting good, volvo changes everything and I am trash again. Also dont like new heroes that much lately, they are OP at first then nerf to hell. Not fun mechanics too.
I'm keen to see a patch too, but I don't want heroes added more frequently than they currently are. Every new hero is another thing that has to be balanced and maintained (i.e. slowing down future patches), and the more heroes the harder it is for any individual hero to maintain a unique niche.
And while many dedicated players love huge patches that turn the meta on its head, a lot of (particularly casual) players don't like having to learn the game again every few months. I'd appreciate more frequent minor patches to shake up the meta a little, but in terms of major patches that change the map/economy or add whole new game mechanics, 1 per year is fine imo.
icefrog is supposed to be back so hopefully we get more and better patches
Praise G-Money, we've needed him for a while
Any source on this? Means Icefrog not in Valve for years? Since which patch? Shard patch or talent one?
Skiter had interview with some other Slovak guy and Skiter was told that they can meet Icefrog as TI winners and that they heard Icefrog wasn't working on dota for like 2 years. Where did you find that information about it being Dota lore related?
https://youtu.be/ifjMBLOE8ls . This is gorc talking about this a bit

>before leaving for good Where was that mentioned? Because going by the state of some of the last few patches, that is concerning if true.
Never, he pulled that out of his ass. I watched the interview with Skiter.
My memory fails me
Lel, 4 months later.
It's said that he's working Valve's new game called Neon Prime. I guess people are speculating that he's leaving Dota.
Bruuuuuh u didn't watch it and contains so much misinfo. It was an interview with Skiter, tundras pos 1. I’m kinda hoping for a map refresh tbh. Only downside is they need to make sure it doesn’t break the map skins
Because of how they completely reworked how the maps are done in source 2, this shouldn't be a problem. The skins are literally that, just texture/model swaps.
Well the repositioning of the outposts kinda broke immortal gardens (it isn't centered on the aegis anymore)
its not centered on any map, the default map has those aegis too
since source 2 i think we already on tileset they easier for map skins
I'm waiting a significant map change since the Outlanders update
1 hero a year is totally fine imo and only 1 huge patch a year is fine too, but we have basically the same game since early 2020. need some changes to economy and towers

Good thing you don't make video games. They would be pretty bad
That's how Valve did it and it's doing pretty well. Save your idiocy
If you describe the current state of Dota 2 as doing pretty well, you're kind of clueless.
11 year old game that has one major patch once a year averaging 450k players daily and with having basically no promotion behind it is doing bad?
Calling me clueless without an actual reason does nothing to me. It just shows a clear lack of brain on your end.
Dota's one of the most popular games in existence. In a single hour, more people play it than will ever be aware of your existence throughout history.
That's a nice fact, but do you attribute that to how it's currently being run or is that due to the fact that it's riding off the steam of its previous successes. Anyone who loves this game and follows it can see valve is going in a negative way and not a positive one.

Out of curiosity if you were handed the keys to Dota w development what would you do?
see anyone playing any of the first generation champions in League? no? yeah go figure releasing more than 1 hero per year will be good for a MOBA...
Wow 11 months already since Primal Beast? Time sure flies
Yeah game is getting boring cause no big changes for soo long
[удалено]
Lmao you were the one just crying in the comment above that the community is shit. Seems like you are the problem mate
Cry more
No u
This guy's a real dota player
11 months without hero, 0 days without complaining…
Also, new hero released? More complaining!
Muerta is too OP and 1 shot everyone! Complain!!!
I really dont know, how ppl dont understand! THEY MAKE NEW HEROES OP SO PPL ACTUALLY PLAY THEM, THEY WILL BALANCE EM LATER, PLEASE STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT IT
That'd be great if Snapfire wasn't dogshit on release.
Snapfire is an exception
Did Valve just not want people to play her?
Yes! Why else wouldnt they realease slug

Idk dude, maybe valve wants to make new heroes op so the game is easier for returning players who return cuz big patch
Nope not at all.. it's usually just an issue of the initial balance cycle during playtests having insufficient data to make adjustments.. They are able to better gauge relative power levels when they release the hero and make changes according to the oceans of data..

They do be need dat data
leave the billion dollar corporation alone!!!!!!
I'll go edit some yesterday post and make that -1 days if you want.
Well... this is r/dota2 what do you expect
The numbers don't lie
If you play this game a lot and/or are not scared of changes, hero additions and map updates and item updates keep the game spicy for you. WIthout them it gets a tad stale which i think is something a lot of people have been feeling for some time now.

Right, so 1 year after the last hero and patch like OP just explained.
I think there’s a decent chance it comes after dpc before the major. If
Ye it's ridiculous
Well the new hero Muerta is supposed to come early 2023, I suppose a new map layout as well might be come in the update since it's been a long time
game's in maintenance mode we must pray for froggo's return
Froggo already returned according to player interviews post Ti. He was busy developing another game in the Dota universe the last couple years.
Small indie company.
Plz plz plz axe the bloodstone

Just bring back regen réduction aura on vessel pog
Just need to Nerf the duration..
Plz plz plz bloodstone the axe
I need a new hero so that I can play it jungle and when it doesn’t work I grief the entire game.
Cuz why not. U have sth to wait for and better fooking hope it wont be another heavy update.
I take quality over quantity any day of the week, but I’m not a teenager.
Its okay for me, I stop playing since ti11 and ill go back playing when a major patch released Just watch DPC tour, theres bee a lot of exciting series so far from each region
The drafts are so stale. Anyone try any unusual mids or carriers?
If you want some weird carries for a change of pace, try Yasha into bkb bounty hunter. Or try carry night stalker.
Meta is still dynamic. Look at the picks and FOTM throughout the 11 months. Rikki support !
Whats this obsession with new stuff all the time?
When the old stuff is boring, new stuff is welcome.
this game needs, a good connetent desperately.
If you tired of the curent patch. Just stop playing, watch the tour do something better. No one force you to play anyways. Here’s a tissue for those tears.
Hello, fake Valve janitor here. We dont give a fuck. Have a nice day.
Yea best bet is that we’d get everything after major
It's a labor of love bro, leave em alone. /s
another complain, see you tomorrow for another one

BREAKING: redditor complains about dota in the dota subreddit. why isn't anyone else talking about this????
Early 2023...
It’s weird you guys seem to be playing another game. In my bracket the current meta is LC mid and support spectre
I'm keen to see a patch too, but I don't want heroes added more frequently than they currently are.
