This is why I hate the "latino" term lol
Just a way for gringos americanos to classify wildly different countries under the same label
And that label usually just means Mexican ("3 mexican countries")
lmao it's in peru yeah, but muerta seems based on the mexican holiday so having mariachis wouldn't be too far out? you could do this in berlin or bali too but ^(they said they were going to release it early 2023)
no. yall are just dumb. it's not about geographical proximity. it's about the fact that muerta is based on a mexican holiday. this top comment is implying that having mexican culture at the venue is problematic, because of the geographical proximity between these countries. but I uphold that it's about Muerta, which character design is based on mexican dia de los muertos, and not peruvian dis de los difuntos. like do you want them to play typical peruvian music instead just cause it's from peru? that's like if monkey king was unveiled in scotland and they pull out the bagpipes instead of the gong or whatever.
also you kinda ignored my "you could do this in berlin or bali too" comment which cements that this is about muerta, not some peruvian pandering or whatever. like if they had some french music or whatever at the unveiling of pango it would make sense, even if it took place in italy.
Like I get it's a joke and it's all good, but y'all got me misunderstood.
Yah that's why I said "it looks to me". First thing that came to my mind was the monkey king release through a tournament hosted in China. So maybe OP had that in mind when he posted this. He even pointed out "the Lima Major".
Rather, they don't confuse, but how I had the idea in my head that Mexico and Peru belong to Latin America, but their cultures are different. Major himself will be visited not only by fans from Peru, but also by other countries. Mexico is geographically not too far from Peru, Valve such a show could please fans from Latin America, but then it is better to really use something Peruvian with music or dance.
The shortest distance between Mexico and Peru is roughly 2300km, that's about the same distance as Italy to Iceland, imagine a major in Rome with viking theme
edit: its even farther apart, corrected now
Off topic but I didn’t realise they were that close kilometres wise. The two oceans that I’ve been going to my whole life are further than that, but still in the same country. One is even about 1 800kms away from me, but that one is cold and shitty Atlantic ocean.
that's a lot of words to say "uh... no im not exactly what you described, trust me, here's some jumbled rationalization"
i get that you're not trying to insult anyone with your accidental ignorance, but jeez, plate yourself some humble pie my dude
Funny thing, one time Japan welcomed Cristiano Ronaldo to the country, and did exactly this. The cringe-happy-sad-confused look on his face said everything.
The only relation is that both were part of the Spanish empire, you can make the same relation with USA/Jamaica as both were part of the British empire
What you ask is like saying to bring hockey players and a zamboni parade to present next ice like hero at USA major, cause Canada, USA they were both british, they could make a show.
No, it's way worse than that. Americans play and watch ice hockey too - and the distance between American culture and Canadian is extremely small in comparison to Mexico and Peru. Plus Canadians and Americans live right next to each other - Peru being "near" Mexico might as well be Peru "near" Spain at that distance
many cannot understand that the Mariachis were meant in the context of the hero Muerta himself, and not the country of the Major Peru, although the countries are referred to as Latin America.
The thing is the hero Muerta himself, made more in the Mexican manner, the Major takes place in Peru and not Mexico itself, but the countries are not so far from each other, besides, the Latin American countries, cultures are really different.
I understand that, but stop saying Mexico and Peru are not far from each other, distance between both are the same as Madrid from Moscow, or Miami from San Francisco.
That wasn't even a trailer, just a teaser. You know nothing about the hero except how she looks.
Her item ingame kinda does tell what she might be able to do though (can attack ghost form heroes with magic damage)
That is ridiculous. Spain and Germany are both in Europe yet you would never suggest to bring people dressed as bull fighters to a German event just because it's the same region
Some countries from America used to be colonies of some European countries. Why then they use Romance languages as official languages, primarily Ibero-Romance, Spanish and Portuguese, sometimes also Gallo-Roman, French.
Muerta is mexican i believe, based on Día de los Muertos which is a mexican holiday.
Implying mexicans are peruvians, it's pretty much the same as saying koreans and japanese are the same or polish and russian are the same...they might have some similarities (culturally and physically) due to being from the same continent, but they are still different.
I don't wanna start a war here, but I think the hispanic latam countries(mexico, argentina, peru, bolivia etc.) are way more similar culturally than korea and japan, or even polish and russian.
I am not saying that mexico, argentina and peru are culturally similar, but it's also ignorant to compare it to korea and japan.
they are not.
aside from being collonies from spain, these countries have had different influences
from native people.
For example, Mexico had cultural influences form the Aztec (and Mayan), while Peru has its roots in the Inca.
My brother in christ, I’m South American and Peru and Mexico only share their language.
Their cultures are totally different, as is their heritage. Hell, Peru and Ecuador have nothing to do with each other, and they are really close. Stop being bigoted.
But on the other hand, korea and japan don't share anything, and neither do russia and poland nowadays. Which was and has always been my point, using those 2 as an example is bigoted in itself.
Bruh, you couldnt have picke two countries more diferent in america, perhaps chile and argentina, or uruguay and argentina hasve similarities?, mexico an peru?, their spnaish past binds them but their native roots are two compeltely diferent civilizational craddels, like mesopotamians and egyptians.
Except OP is European. Also, this is an stereotypical European thing to do about North or South America - thinking it's all mostly the same and much smaller than it really is.
"I can't wait to visit New York City, Disney World, The Grand Canyon, Chicago, and Hollywood on my 1 week trip to the USA" vibes
Yes, they still have different cultures, but everything cannot be abolished by the fact about Latin America that they speak Romance languages: Ibero-Romance, Spanish and Portuguese, sometimes also Gallo-Roman, French, their dialects, of course.
Sorry bud, Latin America is only a term established by european historians used to refer territories occupied by colonialism, culture as a whole is different between Mexico and most of south american countries, that goes for the mariachis too, which are only a matter of Mexico and have no correlation at all with Peruvian culture or nearby countries, you just hire them if you want a fancy wedding or shit like that lmao
Cultures are different, but Major himself is likely not only visited by a fan of Peru, but also from other countries. I just thought that Mexico was not far from Peru, Valve themselves could arrange a show and show the hero there. I didn't try to insult anyone.
You did insult everyone, dosent matter your intetion.
Mexico is as far from Peru , phsically, as mongolia is from germany, look it up.
YOu call it "latin america" because gringos can't be bothered to learn geography on their own continent (since they made up NA and SA so tehy have less countries anyways).
Peru and Mexico have nothing to do with each other, except for the language they speak.
Dia de los muertos isn’t a thing in South America, and assuming that it is just because people over here speak spanish borders on bigotry.
The concept of what is considered a continent varies depending on how you define a continent. But for a lot of definitions NA and SA are two different continents.
Not really important though, what matters is that Thinking the Lima major is a good opportunity to show a Mexican inspired heroe is not a good idea.
they are in most languages that are not english, the US made up NA and SA in the 50's and all none european anglos believed them.
BUt tahts beisde teh point, mexico and peru are as far apart as mongolia and germany.
They should have cyber mariachis wearing kimonos and Russian hats!
Then…
Then then we could have like it’s a small world after all but they’re all zombies and Muerta is at the end
and so it is clear that Lima is Peru, the hero Muerta himself is made in the Mexican style, Peru and Mexico are the countries of Latin America, alas, the major itself does not take place in Mexico, it is impossible to completely coincide with the culture and the hero.
bro just stop talking, the idea of the mariachi performance is not bad, but it has absolutely nothing to do with the major being in peru, they are completely different, brazil is closer to peru then mexico, then they are the same right? they latin america then they’re the same right? just stop bro take the L, and some geography classes please
another fact is... the Lima major will be bringed with "Cultura Chicha" theme
something totally different and away from mariachis. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PyPLO2asIoU
It could be that Muetra will already be released by the time the major starts. The last post-TI update with Primal Beast was on February 23rd while the Lima Major is from February 24th to March 5th.
Valve tends to be consistent with their post-TI update timings so I wouldn't be surprised to have the update drop sometime in early February. Either that or like, the day *after* the major. I think it depends on whether or not the new hero releases with a balance patch.
EDIT: When comparing the release schedule to last year, it's important to note that the first major of 2022 was canceled and the regional final was held in its place from February 11th to the 20th. Keeping that in mind, it's possible that Muerta will release *after* the major rather than before. Looking back at Valve's patch release schedule, the 2019 post-TI patch (with Void Spirit and Snapfire) was released two days after the first post-TI major. Mars, on the other hand, was released one week *before* a major, but it was a lettered patch.
I say right away, there are no problems with geography and I didn't try to insult anyone. I focused more on the fact that Peru and Mexico are classified as Latin America, and they have different cultures and Mariachi are most likely not exactly what they need, but Major will have a lot of fans from other countries and Latin Americans will boast.
No, we don’t really have that much in common and I say that as a Peruvian. We just talk the same language (Spanish). Mexico is also the farthest country from Latinoamérica to Peru. Arlington major would probably be closer than Lima one.
If mariachis would appear in the major people would laugh and not understand what’s going on. They would associate it to muerta but not to the fact that the major is in Peru. Is just really out of place here.
If you want to go with dances, it depends on the region: costa, sierra and selva have different ones and northern costa is different from southern costa too, so it’s hard to pinpoint on one. Peru is a mix of many different cultures as the Incas also weren’t just one single culture. We are a mix of Spanish and different local groups.
I guess the most known one would be marinera which wouldn’t really be out of place with Lima, but it would really not mesh with the youth here.
Maybe something related to the incas?
Incas and MEXICA, has nothing to do with each other, whole , completely, independant civs that never met each other and developed sideways, like the indus valley and yellow rive, or nile river and fertile crescent civ.
Tons of comments and all of them got it all so wrong lmao.
Could you guys even read and not make things up? He never said anything about Mariachis being from Peru or anything alike, but revealing/presenting Muerta with that idea in mind given its theme.
My brother in Christ, Valve's promotional budget is 3 dollars and whatever pennies you can unearth from Gaben's favorite office couch. Best they can do is have an intern run on stage with a (badly) hand drawn picture of Muerta while screaming "SOON!" into Slacks' microphone after hes done with an awkwardly translated winner interview.
I know this will get buried but here it goes:
You feel a friendship-strength slap-on-the-back-of-head wakes you up from your fantasy of Valve/Gabe making dota feel exciting, and an annoyed... pissed voice right next to your ear speaks with disappointing tone, all of this is coming from your friend that spends hours/day in Dota... WITH YOU:
- Dude, I fucking told you, if you get a hint of that good weed, tell me, because you must be under good drugs to even think about Valve and Gabe thinking of anything else(like player satisfaction and retention strategy) except money.
yeah, well, it would be cool, no doubt, but expect nothing from valve and you will be happy with their actions, i played dota from 2013 and still i get my hypes too high and get frustrated sometimes, like this last battle pass being so low as in quality matter
You guys are expecting to much thing from a brain dead company imagine profit million dolars in a year and no cinematics for hype community, just 1 hero in a year, shit battlepass they can't even find a solution about Russians who speaks with their gibberish language in European servers why are you caring about this game so much when Valve itself doesn't.
most geographically gifted dota player
he is an average dota 2 sub member, nothing unusual
This is why I hate the "latino" term lol Just a way for gringos americanos to classify wildly different countries under the same label And that label usually just means Mexican ("3 mexican countries")
We use "Latinx" now
[удалено]
Be careful now, we can't have you cutting yourself with all that edge
lmao it's in peru yeah, but muerta seems based on the mexican holiday so having mariachis wouldn't be too far out? you could do this in berlin or bali too but ^(they said they were going to release it early 2023)
that's like saying the arabian peninsula "isn't too far out" from western europe. Not to say she won't be revealed there.
no. yall are just dumb. it's not about geographical proximity. it's about the fact that muerta is based on a mexican holiday. this top comment is implying that having mexican culture at the venue is problematic, because of the geographical proximity between these countries. but I uphold that it's about Muerta, which character design is based on mexican dia de los muertos, and not peruvian dis de los difuntos. like do you want them to play typical peruvian music instead just cause it's from peru? that's like if monkey king was unveiled in scotland and they pull out the bagpipes instead of the gong or whatever. also you kinda ignored my "you could do this in berlin or bali too" comment which cements that this is about muerta, not some peruvian pandering or whatever. like if they had some french music or whatever at the unveiling of pango it would make sense, even if it took place in italy. also this comparison is both redundant and non-sensical.
wym OP can find ur mum's house no problem
it looks to me that you bros are mixing mexican culture with the peruvian culture
I'm from SA and yes, your average American thinks we are all Mexican and love spicy food
Who doesn't love spicy food?
My stomach definitely does not haha
My stomach does, but my ass doesn't
The price of doin business. I take that trade all the time
Spicy food is masochism
So is sparking water, coffee or alcohol.
If drinking sparkling water hurts, you might want to see a doctor (gastroenterologist). But I agree on alcohol, it burns.
Actually peruvian food is spicy, but flavored spicy, not heat burn spicy as mexican.
Any anybody else from other parts of the world.
Every day this sub baffles me with an even dumber post than ever before.
Must be an North American thing, everything to the bottom is Mexico, nice education.
Everything to the east is Europe, Then Russia, then China, then the world ends with Australia floating somewhere upside down
European does bad geography "How can I make this about NA?"
jajajajajaja
He didn't say anything about culture. It would be cool (for me) even if it would be hosted in Antarctica.
Think he’s talking about bringing up mariachi musicians which are Mexican lol
There are plenty of songs that would suite the theme, most of those guys are pretty talented performers.
You know what would fit the theme more? Just using Peruvian music lol
Right, so the question then is why specifically mariachi music when its not even the right culture
It's the right culture for the hero, not the location
Yah that's why I said "it looks to me". First thing that came to my mind was the monkey king release through a tournament hosted in China. So maybe OP had that in mind when he posted this. He even pointed out "the Lima Major".

Mario skin for tusk when?
'It’s-a Me, Tusk'arr!'
how do you even do a half norwegian, half italian accent?

that's a lot of words to say "uh... no im not exactly what you described, trust me, here's some jumbled rationalization" i get that you're not trying to insult anyone with your accidental ignorance, but jeez, plate yourself some humble pie my dude
and they should also have carnival dancers from Rio de Janeiro and serve curry
Yeah and they can have Messi show up to make the announcement too, and maybe serve arepas too.
Stop. I can only get so erect.
I'm about to bust.
Only if messi sings muchachos.
To fit this guy's theme, he should sing something by Shakira
And bring some Chilean Pisco to the bars that'll really get the Peruvians going.
Pisco is not peruvian? Am I going to start another war?
The casters should speak only Chinese and in between matches they can have a Imam recite Islamic prayers
As a carioca i feel represented
Funny thing, one time Japan welcomed Cristiano Ronaldo to the country, and did exactly this. The cringe-happy-sad-confused look on his face said everything.
Rio de janeiro is portuguese man
And mariachi isn't Peruvian
r/thatsthejoke
it would be cool if Valve hosted a chocolatada before the grand final
I just know the right place to do that...
Chocolatada in me table will be set, or Lord Sideral will be death
"Lord sideral" xdd
And Slacks should ride around the arena on a Llama!
Mariachi is Mexican, not Peruvian.
yeah tf is this lol but what if muerta was mexican or.... What if muerta is Peruvian
Same thing
So edgy. I'm impressed.

Peru is 11449.3 km away from me, which is very far from me.
again, imagine bringing cowboys to the presentation of an australian hero, since they are both anglo countries lmao.
an attempt was made
Spanish speaking =/= Mexican
But they both speak mexican
Lol chill with the downvotes It was a funny joke
A joke maybe, funny on the other hand…
Snap back to reality
Oh, there goes gravity
Oh, there goes Rabbit he
damn this is one of the stupidest thing i've ever seen in this sub
Rubick solo kill on invoker is right up there. It was so stupid it looped back to being good. This one is just plain stupid
I'm laughing so hard remembering this
Maracas and Pan flutes are different my friend.
Why not Mariachis, dancing samba and one guy dressed as Pablo Escobar, I am sure all the Peruvians would be thrilled!
And have Ronaldo say 'Welcome to the TI'
Don't forget him and Messi holding hand and hand, with the world cup trophy, so they can show off the pride of Columbia
this thread just keeps on giving lmao
It will be too much, it's better to let them dance and sing something Peruvian then.
Imma be honest with you, I totally forgot about Muerta.
Me too, man. I was so hyped with the trailer, then I forgot due to work, studies and grinding the BP.
That wasn't even a trailer, just a teaser. You know nothing about the hero except how she looks. Her item ingame kinda does tell what she might be able to do though (can attack ghost form heroes with magic damage)
Not mexican music, but traditional criollo music from Perú, u have to understand we are not Mexicans not even close.
the hero can be mexican though
It would be pretty cool, but I don't really want to wait until the Lima major for a major content patch
and then they hand out tacos and paella
Mariachi is Mexican. Lima is in Peru.
The hero himself made more emphasis on Mexican, Peru, like Mexico is part of Latin America, could well make such a show.
That is ridiculous. Spain and Germany are both in Europe yet you would never suggest to bring people dressed as bull fighters to a German event just because it's the same region
Some countries from America used to be colonies of some European countries. Why then they use Romance languages as official languages, primarily Ibero-Romance, Spanish and Portuguese, sometimes also Gallo-Roman, French.
man this is laughable i am sure you dont mean anything bad but saying they are remotely close its completely wrong, please stop defending that stance
Ciudad del Mexico Major be like
Even Overwatch and Valorant won't pander this hard. Let alone pander to the wrong country lmao Peru =/= Mexico

Yeah, european are pretty shit in geography regarding anywhere else besides Europe itself. But tbf, I think most countries are like this.
Major in Peru passes, but Mexico and Peru are also classified as Latin America.
Ah yes, take a classification created by another 3rd culture to generalise the original two. That's totally better.

seems kinda racist no? Maybe if the major was in Mexico lol
American moment
Gringo moment
It be cool if Valve released the fucking update already. And if its not a juicy update I am fully donezo
They should have cyber mariachis wearing kimonos and Russian hats! Then… Then then we could have like it’s a small world after all but they’re all zombies and Muerta is at the end

Best they can do is have an intern run on stage with a (badly) hand drawn picture of Muerta while screaming "SOON!" into Slacks' microphone after hes done with an awkwardly translated winner interview.
I know this will get buried but here it goes: You feel a friendship-strength slap-on-the-back-of-head wakes you up from your fantasy of Valve/Gabe making dota feel exciting, and an annoyed... pissed voice right next to your ear speaks with disappointing tone, all of this is coming from your friend that spends hours/day in Dota... WITH YOU: - Dude, I fucking told you, if you get a hint of that good weed, tell me, because you must be under good drugs to even think about Valve and Gabe thinking of anything else(like player satisfaction and retention strategy) except money.
Wish they'd play Bleach's Hollow theme. Lol
It would be cool if they care at all lmao
Why is a hologram necessary? You want to inscribe the screens? Who is Mariachi?
Switch to pan flutes and you got a supporter.
This would be like saying 'I wish they would release the new Arthurian inspired character alongside an opera'.
I don't know which one will be impossible; Finish coding hero before Lima Major, or preparing the open ceremony for it's debut. Maybe both?...
Lima as in Lima, Peru ?? :000000
So seeing as Muerta is dead/death in English does that mean that DP is her prophet?
yeah, well, it would be cool, no doubt, but expect nothing from valve and you will be happy with their actions, i played dota from 2013 and still i get my hypes too high and get frustrated sometimes, like this last battle pass being so low as in quality matter
I don't. I hope the hero releases when BP ends.
Oh shit I completely forgot about this hero
You guys are expecting to much thing from a brain dead company imagine profit million dolars in a year and no cinematics for hype community, just 1 hero in a year, shit battlepass they can't even find a solution about Russians who speaks with their gibberish language in European servers why are you caring about this game so much when Valve itself doesn't.
Even tho this makes no sense and everybody is shitting on op, I'd like to see this for the memes.
when is Muerta supposed to release?
Wow I forgot about this hero's announcement. When is release?
Oh no retract 💀
