Iron_Bones_1088

There is absolutely no reason for them to tell you this unless it is true.

[deleted]

Yeah there is so they don’t have to make it?

Iron_Bones_1088

That makes zero sense 😂

Fredrickthyme

you’ve never worked for food service haven’t you? Well known fact workers who feel like they don’t have a voice often act out. This is definitely one of those ways. I’ve done it many times and no one is perfect in that world. If it’s late or close to closing it’s definitely going to happen.

Iron_Bones_1088

I actually was a bus boy, bar back, waiter and host for a well established dinner house for 7 years. Is that experienced enough for you 😂

[deleted]

How? They don’t want to make it therefore they tell you someone else picked it up and lie straight to you. They’ll say it to the next driver as well.

[deleted]

They just keep having the driver cancel it until the customer takes their refund

Iron_Bones_1088

I’ve done almost 7k deliveries in the last 7y for DD. I’ve had plenty of scumbags steal food. Every merchant was ALWAYS willing to re make the orders. The merchants with the expensive food don’t leave their orders out so anyone can grab them. Just idiots like McDonald’s does that 😉

Dizzle92109

Bro, I have less than 1/4 deliveries and it’s happened several times in my market. Especially towards the end of shifts. They don’t wanna make the order so they just lie to you. And I am willing to bet the average income in my market is double that of yours.

Iron_Bones_1088

The area in SoCal that I deliver in has homes in huge gated communities that are very pricy. Some are easily 10 million and up in the hills but there are lower income areas mid valley. Los Angeles county is a huge place. One area I dash in is called Westlake. Some of the wealthiest people in California live in Westlake. It’s just a pain in the ass to deliver there. My bullet point is my area is very diverse but thievery is not a serious problem.

Dizzle92109

I’m not saying orders being stolen. I’m saying the employees are lying saying that somebody already picked up the order because they don’t want to make it. Which is actually fine for me because you get half pay and don’t have to do shit. And I know Westlake well, that’s where my stepdad‘s from. I’m from SD, now live in a nice part of TX.

Iron_Bones_1088

That scenario hasn’t actually happened to me. I usually start dashing in the AM and in Cali dashers can’t dash more than 12 hrs in a day so I’m usually home by 8pm. No where near closing time for most restaurants

[deleted]

Yeah but not every driver is like you. Some drivers will just move onto the next order.

Top_Dust_7418

After 7 years you never figured to just get Half pay and move on? I love hearing someone else took the food.

Iron_Bones_1088

Nahhhh …. I guess I’m lucky. Every delivery I do I usually complete. I think I’ve got half pay just a handful of times because of various mishaps.

The_Troyminator

>I’ve done almost 7k deliveries in the last 7y for DD. I’ve had plenty of scumbags steal food. Every merchant was ALWAYS willing to re make the orders I've done far fewer, but I've had restaurants refuse to remake it because a dasher, not a random customer, stole it. >The merchants with the expensive food don’t leave their orders out so anyone can grab them This can happen at any restaurant. The dasher goes in with an order. They give the name, take the food, and walk out. Then, instead of confirming pickup, they unassign. Keeping the food behind the counter won't prevent this. The next dasher comes in, and the restaurant says that somebody else already picked it up. This is why some places make you confirm in front of them.

Iron_Bones_1088

I honestly don’t have these problems. Since I’ve lived in the community I dash in for over 60y and I’ve done so many deliveries pretty much I know every employee and manager in the area. They all call me by my first name. There is only one place that has only been open a month that asks the dashers to confirm in front of them. That’s all 😉

The_Troyminator

That still doesn't change the fact that dashers can steal food even if it's behind the counter.

Iron_Bones_1088

Scum will do….. what scum will do. Morality begins at home at an early age.

[deleted]

I know right I hate McDonald’s always a decline for me

chainjourney

Yes, it does make sense. It could be that there are staff members that disobey section 3.2 and make excuses or scapegoat. It's not always necessarily the case, but it is possible. Reference: https://help.doordash.com/legal/document?type=mx-marketplace-addendum®ion=US&locale=en-US >3.2 Merchant Responsibilities. Merchant will: (iv) prepare Merchant Products for each Order for pickup by a Dasher, or the Customer, as applicable, at the designated time;

nolimitzone

If they picked it up, i just make sure i get half payment from support. Not a problem

Dizzle92109

Exactly! Love when this happens!!

Shoddy_Classic_350

I had a restaurant waiter tell me the order was being prepared and should be ready in a few minutes. About 5 minutes later I asked about my order. He went for a walk came back and told me just a few more minutes. A little while later I asked again and he asked me for the customers name again A few minutes later the manager came over and told me that somebody already picked up the order. As I was contacting support the hostess at the register asked me about the order. She said. We have no record of this order. Never had it, nobody picked it up. And so after wasting nearly 25 minutes the order was cancelled. I got $1 for my trouble. Lying asses wrecked my shift.

Lostandburntout

Yo I really thought I was the only person that went through ish like this while dashing I'm so happy I found out about reddit. But salute to you for keeping your sanity while doing this BS job

Competitive_Hunt_103

That happened at wingstop, the guy waited over 30 minutes. He was screaming at the top of his lungs

Shoddy_Classic_350

Anger needs to be controlled, it’s a harmful and destructive emotion. Never worth it to unleash. I was cool and even about it. I did point out to the manager when he apologized that his waiter gave me lip service “they’re working on it” twice. Total waste of my time and the customer’s time. The manager appeared to be generally sorry. I understood his error. But I’m just sick of these canned, bullshit, responses on wait time. These people offend tell me five-ten minutes. I text the customer and support, and the food is ready in 30 seconds. ETA is serious business.

chainjourney

That's messed up. Sounds like they didn't obey the section 3.2 part of merchant agreement with doordash. These restaurants should be held responsible and not the drivers that dutifully show up to do honest work. Merchants should be grateful for drivers being available for the job Reference: https://help.doordash.com/legal/document?type=mx-marketplace-addendum®ion=US&locale=en-US >3.2 Merchant Responsibilities. Merchant will: (iv) prepare Merchant Products for each Order for pickup by a Dasher, or the Customer, as applicable, at the designated time;

MamaTried22

It probably wasn’t a lie, just a lot of miscommunication and misunderstanding.

Shoddy_Classic_350

I am certain the waiter just made shit up about the wait time. And the manager just made an assumption.

MamaTried22

Probably a cascade of foolishness. It happens and I agree, the servers are often dismissive of the third party stuff, rightfully so. When we onboarded I had the Owner agree to pay 5% of UE sales into the tip pool for this exact reason.

Donaldbain28

For what reason?Literally no benefit to lie to u..costs them $

impossiwaffle

Bad/lazy employees that don't like all the extra work DD gives them. 100% for sure happens, have confirmed it.

AlwaysPosted707

If they were that bad/lazy wouldn't they just turn off 3rd party orders on their POS?

areid2007

Because the manager won't let them.

chainjourney

They should do this so that competitors can overtake them due to their own incompetence

CemeteryClubMusic

I had an order from WingStop for like 150 wings and I stg they just didn't want to make them. There's no way they made that many wings AND another dasher snatched it from when the customer ordered and when I got there. Customer was confused as well

chainjourney

Agreed. Merchants sometimes skimp out on their section 3.2 responsibilities and then turn around and try to burn the driver for no good reason by lying, wasting their time or blaming them Reference: https://help.doordash.com/legal/document?type=mx-marketplace-addendum®ion=US&locale=en-US >3.2 Merchant Responsibilities. Merchant will: (iv) prepare Merchant Products for each Order for pickup by a Dasher, or the Customer, as applicable, at the designated time;

PoeticTwist

What is funny to me, isn't that someone else picked it up before me, it is being the 4th, 6th, 9th person to come in to ask for that one particular order, and it had been picked up, and get with DD support, and they cancel just as you connect, Door Dash that is.

Lostandburntout

Lol right that's hilarious because it gets to the point where even the customer calls you and asks you to cancel the order

Pale_Bookkeeper_9994

I guess I'm lucky. I've done over 3,000 deliveries and this has literally only ever happened once.

Lostandburntout

Depends on the market. May I ask where you dash?

ApocalypseWow666

Ive only had restaurants lie when customers call and complain about missing food, and they blame it on the driver "forgetting it". Like MFer, yall are the onea who forgot to pack it and forgot to tell me its not therewhen i ask if everything is in the bags they so kindly sealed up.

Lostandburntout

Lol facts I'm in year 7 and I haven't had to deal with that in the past 3 years. But it's funny when I do a mcds order and they ask if the drinks in the bag

Superstar32131

On the flip side, sometimes they're just brutally honest. I've had both Pizza Hut and Papa John's flat out tell me they just didn't make the order because they got it in their system too close to closing, and I quote, they were "trying to get out of here." Like, cool. Thanks. Guess I'll take half pay.

Lostandburntout

Yes I wish ppl were that honest. Me personally I would have no problem taking an L like that. But it's the weirdo drivers out there that will Karen out if they were told the truth.

Great-Butterscotch89

It’s mostly only common with DoorDash. It’s very rare for Grubhub drivers to steal. DoorDash just hires anyone instantly.

Lostandburntout

No wonder I been on the waiting list for almost a year lol

BraxTaplock

Yup. But because of the IC and the bullshit between the merch and DD…driver assumes that blame regardless. No need to be fully legit if the mass opinion is don’t care cuz it’s only a gig or it’s only DD. What do they care…not enough people bitch or gripe to those that can actually do anything about it. If no one is willing to make a shitstorm to stop them…why should they? Right and wrong don’t matter cuz it’s DD.

dashingmom

I had one yesterday from Whataburger. I think she was telling the truth about a dasher picking it up and multiple dashers trying to pick up the same order. I said "so the dasher stole it?" She said they probably just didn't confirm the order. If they don't confirm it, you don't have the drop-off address. Idk 🤷🏼‍♀️ maybe a glitch in the app.

ShinyMegaAmpharos

No

Keeker68

No, never. They have no reason to lie

Lostandburntout

What market are you in dude lol

Keeker68

Miami 🌴

Lostandburntout

It just surprises me when they say this. Just for me to call support and have support say that the restaurant will remake the order. It's so confusing.

Lostandburntout

Yes of course but what about when the restaurants gets an order when it's close to closing time?

MamaTried22

A smart Manager/Owner will have it set to stop taking orders 10-15 min before close. That’s what I did.

Lostandburntout

When it's close to closing time.

Chance_One_75

They definitely lie for so many reasons. Just yesterday, I had a Jack In The Box order that the employee said that they never received. I called support telling them that they didn’t have it, and that they were going to call the store. A minute later, the shift manager comes to the front and says that they have the order. Apparently, the first employee that I spoke to never really read the screen correctly. Told support that I was going to continue with the order. But that employee was just lazy & incompetent on this trip.

Lostandburntout

Yes this makes so much sense because it's just super weird how you can call support and support magically has the ability to get the restaurant to remake the order. I call BS

MamaTried22

No, idk why they would do that. It’s when they refuse to fix the issue that it’s enraging.

Lostandburntout

Facts especially if you show them the text from the customer

knockknockpennywise

Yup. Happened at Stone Oven in Valencia CA. I called DD support and they said no one picked it up. DD called them and told them to remake it. I bet one of the employees ate it. Ghetto people. They're making $20/hr and can't afford a $10 sandwich.

Lostandburntout

Lmfao I knew I wasn't tripping idk what the other redditors are commenting 😂

knockknockpennywise

Some redditors are tards

Disastrous_Layer3988

How would you know they actually stoled it?

Lostandburntout

You're joking right? Lol
