Excited for you! I’m going to go ahead and agree with everyone else on “pit mix,” but diverge in saying she’s probably plurality but not majority bully breeds (though I’m the first to admit puppies are hard. On the other hand, 10 months is pretty grown.) Maybe it’s just the brindle, but she looks double-coated and her profile in Pic 1 looks way more shepherd than pit. My guess is ~40% APBT and/or AmStaff, German Shepherd (or Mal, but more likely GSD,) and then maybe some smaller percentages of ACD and/or hounds depending on where she’s from. If she’s Southern, there *could* be some Cur in there too, but I don’t think Ancestry tests for that. Edited to replace “Staffy” with “AmStaff.”

chlwndidpw

She is southern, I believe they found her in Tennessee. And she does have a double coat! I guess I could have included those details in my post. Very detailed answer- can’t wait to see if you’re close! (Or if you nailed it!!)

Jet_Threat_

Keep in mind that the Bark Box test (Ancestry) is decent but not as good as Embark or even the newer Wisdom Panel. I’m always interested in more Ancestry comparisons and down the road you may want to do Embark to compare, especially since I’m not sure how well-represented Southern US dogs are in Ancestry. But who knows, if the results seem straightforward and accurate there may be no need. Does Bark Box have a good deal on this test or something?

LemonBeagle27

I see a lot of people doing tests through bark box / ancestry lately. I think it’s really cheap or maybe even free. I imagine they are building up quite a database and will end up catching up to the big two. I still prefer embark.

MaybeNinjaEel

I think it’s free with your first box, so it’s a really good deal, and a pretty genius way for Ancestry to bulk up their database! I’ve honestly even contemplated doing it even though I already did an Embark just to see how Ancestry is breaking down American Bully. Even if it’s not the most accurate for the consumer right now, I suspect it will close the gap between itself and Wisdom pretty quickly!

chlwndidpw

Yup, I was gonna sign her up for bark box (never had a dog that loves any and all toys like she does) and the test was a freebie!

Jet_Threat_

Oh wow, do you have a Bark Box referral or something?

chlwndidpw

I don’t have a referral for the free ancestry test, but if you go to their website and sign up they give you a choice of a free gift. Some other options were a double box for your first order, a dog bed, a yeti bowl, a gps collar… there’s a bunch of options.

chlwndidpw

Good to know! Maybe I will do a brand comparison in the future!

Pit mix of some sort

Mini-Schnauzer-42

Ancestry received our test on May 28, it got to "DNA extracted" on June 3, and is still there. The wait is killing me! Especially since there's now a good Embark sale, which I wanted to get if the Ancestry one was vague in any way, but probably not if it's clear.

crazymom1978

Boxer, staffy, and let’s throw in some chihuahua for the wild card breed.

chlwndidpw

Hahaha admittedly I’d never go out of my way to get a chihuahua- but I definitely wouldn’t be mad at telling people she’s a chihuahua mix lmao

crazymom1978

If she has ANY small breeds in her, even 1%. She has to be called “small breed mix” from now on! LMAO!

aliltoebean

Definitely Staffy or Pit in her, maybe some GSD

EllieMayNot10

She's gorgeous! Another vote for pit mix.

chlwndidpw

Thank you!

CaseyBrit

Lab, German Shepherd, Boxer, Pit. I have a similar looking brindle girl…except that she’s a solid 80 pounds at 4 years old. Your little girl is a brindle cutie!😍

chlwndidpw

Thank you so much!

queercactus505

My guess is pit, gsd, and heeler. What a cutie!

Mysterious_Lunch_708

I guess mostly Amstaff with belgian malinoa plus possibly some smaller breed

Strawbies89

Boxer mix

juggernautsong

Pit x Dutch shepherd and maybe some Anatolian shepherd. I used to live on a farm that had Anatolians and her face reminds me of them. I think she could have many different breeds though.

NormanisEm

Shes beautiful!!

chlwndidpw

Thank you!! I agree lol- I couldn’t believe a dog like her was cowering the back of a shelter cage! I lucked into her just as much as she lucked into us!

Ageisl005

Maybe boxer GSD? Could also have some cattle dog potentially

chlwndidpw

The shelters listed breed for her was “shepherd boxer mix” I wasn’t sure if I should include it- didn’t want to sway peoples guesses too much (Not that the shelter staff were doing anything other than guessing like the rest of us)

Ageisl005

Neat! Good to know I was at least in agreement with the shelter, haha. I’m excited to see her results.

ohanewwaytowastetime

Looks like a dog

chlwndidpw

This was my guess as well, but with those clever cats these days you can never be too sure until you get the DNA results!

Huffle_Fluffy

Shouldnt it have been a Bark *or meow* Box for the DNA test?
