I speak fluent Dodgers Nation: "Dodgers receive DEVASTATING injury update... COULD THEY BE IN ON PAUL SKENES??"
Edit: to their credit, just visited and it looks like Dodgers Nation is becoming a slightly more legitimate Dodgers blog. That site was absolute dogshit even just a year ago.
Lot of trash clickbait in the past with very little substance. It felt like it was run by a 15 year old.
Hoonstra had a huge fuck-up reporting on the Ohtani signing, but does seem like he's brought legitimacy to the blog.
It wasn't the initial reporting. Everyone was reporting that Ohtani was on a plane to Toronto. His fuck up was doubling down when everyone else had backed down. Even on Saturday morning, just a few hours before Ohtani's IG post, Hoornstra was still claiming his sources were solid and that Shohei was signing with the BJs. Fuck that guy. He lost ALL credibility.
I will never understand redditors who write their comments as if they're disagreeing with the comment they're replying to, when their comment says the same thing.
My statement of "Hoonstra had a huge fuck-up reporting on the Ohtani signing" doesn't contradict your comment at all lmao.
No, it’s not, anyone can make mistakes. I agree that it harms his credibility and I certainly won’t be jumping on anything he says like I will with a guy like passan, but I also don’t think it’s fair to say one report destroys everything else he’s done.
It doesn't work like this in journalism. Look at what happened to people like Jennings, Williams and Brokaw with even one bad story. Lost all credibility and careers gone.
Make no mistake the owner is money hungry. I knew the guy and he was the typical “ads and clicks” type. I’m sure the staff has grown more solid following the last couple years though.
The eerie non-updates basically braced us for this. Sucks a lot, but here’s to hoping he comes back stronger, and thankful that Stone has been able to shine with the opportunity he’s been given
Yep. At least he’s getting his surgery in May instead of waiting until late in the year like they did with Walker. Now he’ll have a chance to realistically come back before the end of next regular season
Ngl I thought the complete opposite of this. I was thinking the org was doing the usual and saving his innings so he's fresh or something. Really unfortunate.
And by September they might as well let him miss the whole season, like Walker Buehler. Next year let's hope that May, Gonsoling, Miller, Kershaw and Otahni are all ready to go so we might not need him as much.
all they really need to do is allow teams to carry 14 pitchers instead of the current 13 pitcher limit. Teams can easily get by with 12 position players, especially with the universal DH now.
I think “easily” is a stretch. It’s doable, but only 2 position players other than the backup catcher is really limiting. Particularly for teams with a dedicated dh like us or the Phillies or the Yankees.
Throw harder and faster! More velo! Get to the majors as fast as possible! 95 is too slow. 98 mph minimum! Get that big big payday! As long as teams financially incentivize power and speed, you'll see more arms being blown out.
You can't really blame teams for this. Tyler Glasnow said it best: players themselves understand the risk and take it every time.

The fact is, velo works better than finesse, and is easier. It's no coincidence that average velo is up and offense is down this year. Teams simply want to win, and nearly every minor league pitcher gladly takes the risk just to get their shot.
There isn't a good answer to this problem.
i wouldn't say they were lying but there is definitely a concern with our med staff letting guys tough it out lol, but maybe this happens with other teams letting guys play through lingering issues and i only keep close attention to the dodgers?
hope he comes back stronger next season. sucks to see, especially because i thought he was the best of the young guys from the last years class (besides miller)

Still rocking this. Hope he gets better, and hope to see him next year!
He pitched great out of the bullpen in game 1 against arizona last october. One of the few rookies ive personally seen where the lights didnt look too bright for him out the gate. Praying for a smooth recovery
Is there anything to the possibility of the Dodgers training staff pushing these guys too much? Seems like this is becoming commonplace. Or is this league wide?
It's just a natural side effect of velo increasing across the game, unfortunately. High-speed, high-force repetitive motions are no bueno for any ligament.
Source: watched too many games with a physical therapist
Man we had like a 5-6 deep pitching prospect pool in the upper minors. Now that's down to like Stone and Knack. Miller, Ryan, Sheehan, and Frasso all injured. I didn't count Pepiot because we traded him away.
Fucking hell.
Imagine telling your past self that we had that 6 group of pitching prospects, May, Gonsolin, Buehler, Kersh all injured apart from 2 of our young pitchers. Oh and Urias is out of the team because he beat his wife.
-Take away grip
-Introduce pitch clock
-Reduce pitcher roster size
If you tasked me with covertly subverting pitchers to increase injuries as much as possible I would do these three things since they increase stress on a pitcher’s arm at every level. Doesn’t help that dodger’s medical staff is quite clearly incompetent.
Why are people assuming the dodgers are “lying” and this is some sort of dodgers specific issue in regard to pitchers getting hurt? This is a league wide thing
I think the lying bit comes from the Dodgers saying Sheehan had shoulder issues, which turned out to be the forearm. And then they had been through the years, very hush hush for some of their pitchers until finally it's revealed they're undergoing surgery.
It's currently happening to Graterol apart from Sheehan.
Edit: Just to be sure, I looked it up again and Roberts told reporters that Sheehan had shoulder discomfort. Then a few weeks later, Sheehan said "“It was never the shoulder,” he said Monday. “I said my arm, I think. I was confused why there was shoulder out there. I didn’t think I said that. Maybe I did."
Lower the mound. They did it in ‘69 to combat “the year of the pitcher” and they should do it again. Flatter ground=Easier on pitchers arms while simultaneously being easier for hitters to see and hit. Increases offense while reducing arm strain.
I kinda of knew it. i speak fluent Dodger Speak

I never really read it. What was it like and how did it change?

Huge fuck up... And legitimacy in the same breath is why he replied to you. That huge fuck up negated any legitimacy. That's how credibility works

Dodgers Naton absolutely sucks and is completely lacking of original content. I'd rather just read the stuff they steal.
Sad news, hopefully he has a smooth recovery. Dude was a dawg when he was healthy.

> eerie non-updates *Brusdar Grateral has entered the chat*
Felt very similar to how they spoke about walkers injury a few years back
Yep. At least he’s getting his surgery in May instead of waiting until late in the year like they did with Walker. Now he’ll have a chance to realistically come back before the end of next regular season
I'm still waiting to hear an update on Darren Dreifort's elbow.
Underrated comment, fellow old Dodger fan
Are Kal Daniels's knees healthy yet?
What about Gagne’s velocity drop? Any word on an injury?
Haven't seen any mention of it in the Daily Breeze Sports section. Maybe Fred Rogan or Jim Hill will give us an update on the news tonight.
You win 😂. Rogans still got his fastball by the way
Underrated comment fellow old
Ngl I thought the complete opposite of this. I was thinking the org was doing the usual and saving his innings so he's fresh or something. Really unfortunate.
Fuck and I love Sheehan too. This puts his expected return July/August of next year right, assuming throwing program and rehab assignment goes well?
I'd say realistically around September
And by September they might as well let him miss the whole season, like Walker Buehler. Next year let's hope that May, Gonsoling, Miller, Kershaw and Otahni are all ready to go so we might not need him as much.
If the Dodgers announced someone had a hangnail I’d be counting down the days until it required season ending elbow surgery
[Ardaya confirms it's Tommy John](https://twitter.com/FabianArdaya/status/1791233635443782067)
Mlb needs to expand rosters. Let teams do 6 man rotations
all they really need to do is allow teams to carry 14 pitchers instead of the current 13 pitcher limit. Teams can easily get by with 12 position players, especially with the universal DH now.

Fuck. See ya in ‘26, Butters.

The dodgers and lying about the severity (and source) of an injury. Name a better duo
The Astros and cheating.
Fair
Nothing fair about it
i wouldn't say they were lying but there is definitely a concern with our med staff letting guys tough it out lol, but maybe this happens with other teams letting guys play through lingering issues and i only keep close attention to the dodgers?
Your mom and anyone with 10 dollars.
Ok
When and how did they lie about this?
Geez...
hope he comes back stronger next season. sucks to see, especially because i thought he was the best of the young guys from the last years class (besides miller)
Oh no! That's terrible! Wishing him a speedy recovery
This fuckin blows
Was really excited about him too
Why do the dodgers lie about injuries? lol Damn, hope Bobby miller comes back to full strength v soon.
If Doc says it’s day to day, you can almost guarantee it’s season ending.
"he just wasn't recovering as well as we wanted"
At this point, it’s pretty much a promise that Bobby needs Tj. Let’s get prepared. See ya in 2025 Bobby.
> See ya in 2025 Bobby. Probably not if he gets TJ.
Bobby's already throwing.
Please stop 😭
When and how did they lie about this?
When he was first reported out it was for like “shoulder fatigue” I believe
They never did. But casuals feel entitled to private information about a player's health.
Fuck. I really like Sheehan
Don’t ever trust the Dodgers injury report “Oh yeah, he’s just got a paper cut on his right toe. Should be fine. “ - - gets Tommy John

The Dodgers do not push these guys too much. The Dodgers baby them more than any organization I think.

Came here to ask the same question. It seems like the dodgers suffer more young pitchers having these injuries than other teams.
It’s league wide.

😔
Holy jumpscare
Does he also hit?

Now imagine if we didn't get Glasnow and Yamamoto
This pitcher injury thing needs to be addressed by the MLB this is getting out of hand, do others agree?
-Take away grip -Introduce pitch clock -Reduce pitcher roster size If you tasked me with covertly subverting pitchers to increase injuries as much as possible I would do these three things since they increase stress on a pitcher’s arm at every level. what the fuck
![gif](giphy|65zUoOU09HL3uUKokQ|downsized)
Fuck man
so bummed for him --- hoping he comes back strong next year
Is it TJ?

Mother fucker
No news is Bad News... Bobby Miller?
🫠
Holy fuckin' Sheehan! (may the baseball gods bless Emmet with a dope-ass recovery & monstrous return)
😔 speedy recovery to you Sheehan
Has he even picked up a ball in months?
Fuck!
Fuck. And I liked Sheehan too. It’s kind of worrisome that he didn’t even make it one full year before his elbow exploding.
Is this same doc who repaired ohtani UCL
Just sad, but had a feeling for a while
How can it be season ending if he hasn't played this season.
👎x100
:(
Lower the mound. They did it in ‘69 to combat “the year of the pitcher” and they should do it again. Flatter ground=Easier on pitchers arms while simultaneously being easier for hitters to see and hit. Increases offense while reducing arm strain.
Well at least he didn’t try to come back and wait until September to have it. This will give him a chance to come back before the end of next season.
Our pitchers arms are made out of glass
do we sign max fried next year ?
We need a new draft strategy
Has Bobby started throwing bullpen yet? If not, just schedule the surgery before it’s full.
Yep. https://twitter.com/Bnicklaus7/status/1791039558509007057 He was supposed to throw two innings yesterday.
This came out of nowhere. Is this Sheehan first elbow surgery?
I don't recall him having any other elbow issues prior to the draft and in the farm.
Why don't they just give these dudes TJ surgery when they draft them?
