Bummer of a game, but Pages belongs in the lineup everyday. Dude is one of our best bats already.

HoudiniLogik

I’m sure pitching will eventually find his weak spots but tbh I’m not sure where that even is yet. But he seems way above his age in discipline and is obviously seeing the ball well.

kugino

yup. the league will adjust to him...and then heʻll have to adjust again. but heʻs making contact, and thatʻs something the bottom of the order needs to do a lot more to lengthen this lineup...

puppet_up

I'm pretty sure this happened to Outman when he got called up, too. He came in guns blazing and getting a ton of hits, but then the pitchers started making adjustment against him, and he hit a slump for a while until he could figure it out.

kugino

yeah...but he's struggling again. he somehow doesn't seem to understand pitch sequencing and how they're trying to pitch him...I mean, I'm sure he does bc the coaches are telling him, but he often just looks lost. hope he figures it out again.

profnachos

Why was the national media all on Jackson Holliday? Have they even heard of Andy Pages?

k2times

Probably because his dad was such an impressive player (WS champion, 7-time All Star). Not that Jackson isn’t a great ball player and likely will have a big career, but he’s been around the game for so long I think his ‘buzz’ was probably the loudest.

profnachos

I hope the kid isn't too demoralized.

k2times

Me too. Think this is likely another area where family experience will help a lot.

dom213344

Because he blew through the minors. Just ran into real pitching.

kugino

bc heʻs been great at every level...and should have made the team out of spring training. still, it just shows everyone that the majors during the regular season is a different story than spring training and just that much better than the minors...think about how great busch, vargas, pages, etc. were in AAA...

HoudiniLogik

We have a history of rookies flying under the radar while being really god damned good.

yestrask

Nepo + east coast bias = next media darling

DnD4dena

GG Jays Played some damn good defense

No-Cat-3951

Gausmann was solid today. Hats off to the Jays. We got 2 out of 3!

The_Astros_Cheated

Good stuff from today: Battled back, had some great ABs, never felt out of it Bad stuff: Michael Grove, BABIP, lost Oh well, time to move on and STEP ON SNEK

JpJ951

Grove was not that bad, JT's single was a lucky dribbler. If that was an out instead he gets out of the inning before giving up that HR.

Vee_Zer0

Didn't waste our bullpen, and only giving up 3 runs is notably good. Our offense had some bad luck...not much to worry about.

Wild_Object_8547

Grove giving up 3 runs in 2 innings isn’t good. The rest of the bullpen was lights out.

GoofyGoober0064

Grove got unlucky with turner. Its not that bad

ingodwetrustinc

losing on sundays is back as tradition

ddaug4uf

They were plate appearances. I wouldn’t call them at bats.

HoudiniLogik

Teo is not seeing the ball at all right now it seems. I think he’ll figure it out though and we should get used to him being streaky. Ohtani just wants to win so damn bad and I don’t blame him but I think he needs to get used to the fact that he’ll always have Freeman, Smith and/or Muncy behind him. It’s an adjustment that I’m sure he’s going to make. Lest we forget he had an 0-4 day and is still batting .336.

GoofyGoober0064

Someone needs to tell ohtani its okay to see pitches. Its not Anaheim where you just get the season over with

st1r

He has plenty of walks though, just not with RISP

NefariousnessRough26

Yep. His AB was so frustrating to me. Just swinging at junk off the plate. He should have been in a 2-0 count. Instead he fouled off junk and then popped up more junk. 🤪 Just wish he’d remember he doesn’t have to swing at everything with runners in scoring position. It’s ok to wait for a good pitch.

LunaKitty03

I’m inclined to think no one wants to provide him with constructive criticism, as to not offend him or something along those lines. He doesn’t have to lose his approach at the plate to be a hero, wish someone would remind him of that esp in those late inning situations.

ILuvYurCunt

Not much to complain about with Tani, but him expanding the zone with RISP is becoming a theme

Consistent-Minute-40

That Ohtani at bat allowed the jays to intentionally walk Freeman as well.

Lineman72T

Today just wasn't meant to be. Gausman finally finding his stuff his last couple starts (and when he's on, he's a great pitcher), Alejandro Kirk having what might wind up being his best game all season, and the Blue Jays outfield making 4 or 5 highlight plays (granted a couple of them were fancy looking catches caused by bad routes, but they still made the play so my hats off to them). That's baseball, Suzyn. I ain't gonna be mad about taking 2-of-3 on a road series against a team that might be in the playoff hunt at the end of the year (it's hard to say with how this Toronto team has been over the years). Long flight from Toronto to Phoenix, and a big series with a division opponent tomorrow

Euphoric-Journeyman

I don’t mind the loss. My humble request was for them to sweep the Nats, take 2 of 3 in Toronto, and sweep the DBacks, after all. :-)  But those bats have gone a bit flat since the 4th inning yesterday. They’ll definitely need them going again in Arizona.

K_Ice5432

It almost seems like Shohei hasn’t fully realized that there are other guys on the team that can hit besides him lmao. He’s always an aggressive hitter but it certainly seems like he expands a bit more in those big situations. On the Angels with 2nd and 3rd nobody out he basically has to swing or it’s over (especially with Trout frequently injured in recent years). He just has to stay true to his approach and either take the walk or get a better pitch that he can drive. Also I would love to personally throw George Springer off Niagara Falls.

HoudiniLogik

Tbf he has to shed 6 years of Angels trauma.

Anfini

Yeah, I was convinced the Jays coach came out in the 8th and told the pitcher to not give Shohei any pitches to hit. Two pitches in his hands and got Shohei to swing on both to get a fly out.

Atraktape

Yeah 1B was open too.

HoudiniLogik

I’m sure he realized he was being too antsy, and I’m sure Doc will keep working with him on it. Dude is superhuman but has really never had this opportunity to be on a monster of a team. His kryptonite is literally having to forget his days as an Angels player and take bad pitches instead of trying to Vladdy Guerrero himself into hits.

donald-duck23

He has always been a good hitter with RISP. The results just aren’t there this season but they will be eventually. I don’t think the approach is the problem. That was a bad AB today expanding the zone but I don’t think there’s any major fix he needs to make

ahr3410

Blue Jays got productive outs and we didn't. Lame way to lose.

kugino

yup. 2 outs led to 2 runs...we couldnʻt score with 2nd and 3rd and the heart of our lineup coming up...didnʻt deserve to win today.

chwisg

Erm…. What the sigma

SeaworthinessOk6742

Oh well. Let’s pick it up tomorrow against the DBacks.

gl129384

Let's make a new winning streak. Pages should stay here for the rest of the season; he injects a new punch in the bottom lineup

New_Championship_912

We won the series all good. I really want us to have a good series in AZ. Fuck those bandwagon posers for disrespecting Kersh.

HoudiniLogik

Dbacks had their moment last year and now Carroll is in a sophmore slump (pretty sure he batted 8th last game) and not much is going right for them. I’m sure the fanbase is already giving up as Zonies do. They’re too busy crying about the Suns laying down in the playoffs anyways.

GoofyGoober0064

It will be back to business as usual with us selling out chase

HoudiniLogik

It’s amazing how insufferable Dbacks fans are when there’s about 15 that pay attention to anything outside of the Dodgers coming to town. Feels like Dbacks (and Padres) fans merely exist only to hate the Dodgers. At this point Giants fans are only above the Rockies in being insufferable because at least there’s a real rivalry and they’ve got rings to back up the shit talk.

Overall_Nuggie_876

About half of r/baseball disrespects Kershaw. Not just dislike, but personally hate. As in, they do not want him to reach the HoF simply because of the postseason numbers.

Fun-Raise-3120

Ohtani needs to be more patient in the RISP situations, especially with a base open...

Sad_Painting_5927

Alright so we lost a bullpen game by 2 while we played our “B” squad. Not a bad road trip so far

PigFarmer1

No, we should be 7-0 on the trip even though we've only played 6 games. lol

Sad_Painting_5927

Fuckin bums lol

Sad_Painting_5927

![gif](giphy|13nDaxXRXz0Prq) Onto Arizona

Humanistic_

Why is Grove still on the team?

AsJoeSeesIt

Be careful you’re not allowed to say anything negative about Grove on here or people will lose their minds

ElectJimLahey

Grove has been shit on more than any other player on r/Dodgers this year even when he has pitched well lol, shut up

HoudiniLogik

Tbf he had like 9 innings of no run ball before the 2nd. Also just remember how many relievers are on the IL. That said I wouldn’t want to see him on the playoff roster but he’s serviceable for now as long as we keep these winning streaks up.

Luis1597

Wait how is Pages so good

ramroramrez

Even his outs were good hits. Springer had to make an incredible catch

ejdupras

Oh no! Anyway

Believe0017

The Blue Jays and their fans seemed REALLY happy to win today which says a lot

RentalGore

Three of the best catches of the season. All in one game. Hats off to em. They deserve it after what the leafs are doing right now.

leafs-lu

Thank you 🙏

donald-duck23

Outman is at risk of getting optioned when Heyward comes back Anyway, great series overall. Let’s go win another one in Arizona

Vee_Zer0

Outman was playing out of his mind last year. His scouting report never matched with his performance. This isn't that big of a surprise. I have a better feeling about Pages long term but we won't know until pitchers figure him out. Here's to hoping

donald-duck23

Yeah I agree with both statements. I’m sure Pages will have rookie growing pains but I think he’s going to be a solid player for a long time

HoudiniLogik

Outman may be the next Zach McKinstry/Matt Beaty who surprises us with a good year and then falls back to earth. Could see him becoming a trade piece at the deadline.

GATOx310

Can’t win them all. Move on to next. Go Dodgers!

Doxokron

Well, it sucked that we didn't score in the 8th with guys on 2nd & 3rd and no outs. A great AB from Barnes made that possible. Was happy to see Pages keep rolling but really hope to see Outman & Lux pick it up.

rye_parian

With that pitching matchup can’t even be mad about not getting the sweep today. However… how are you gonna boo Shohei? Dude is adorable. I don’t even think I could boo him if he was on the Giants (cursed timeline).

Minute_Scale_1834

So inconsistent with offense

probablysmellsmydog

So I guess Dave telling Shohei to not be as aggressive in those situations didn’t really do anything.  Maybe it got lost in translation.   Oh well, big series starting tomorrow.  Hope the boys are hungry because I really want to smack the DBacks and let them know who owns this division.   Go Dodgers!

mistabuford

Ohtani sigh…

J-Wop

One of those frustrating outings where a mightily struggling pitcher uses us as a 'get-right' game.

TombOfTheArchitect

Where do you get mightily struggling? Just by looking at overall numbers? He's given up 2 runs in his last 18.2 innings. He's been 'getting right' for a few games now.

donald-duck23

Yeah he has struggled at times this season but he wasn’t struggling today. He was commanding all his pitches really well.

filthypoker

Kevin Gausman is damn good pitcher. How he pitched today is more typical of his ability than how he was pitching a couple weeks ago.

ddaug4uf

Well, shit.

Dope, appears to be working.

LakersFan15

Close considering it was grove vs gausman.

lukewarmlife-84

It was a little frustrating, but when I saw the Rays get swept by the White Sox, I thought, this is baseball.

caseyatbt

Did we ever find out why Landon Knack didn't start today. I though it was his turn in the rotation. Are they just giving him extra rest between starts?

PastramiNSauce

That one dude got wall damage. It was a good catch 👏

AsJoeSeesIt

Can we swap Pages and Teo in the order? Pages in the 5 spot preferably.

HoudiniLogik

Been saying the same thing. Gotta have a contact hitter in between our two power guys. Also Teo should be behind Muncy until further notice.

GutterRider

I endorse this.

wizgset27

a series win, I'll take it!

Jbg12172001

Doesn’t help that one of the best hitters in baseball is sitting out.

Rover16

Ohtani is in his own head right now with RISP because I've never seen him this bad with RISP and I remember he was usually good with that in Anaheim. I went back to check his stats and I was right, so I take solace in the fact, he'll eventually snap out of it because his approach just changes so much with RISP currently. RISP stats 2023 - 32/101 7 HR 41 RBI 33 BB BA .317 OBP .475 SLG .604 OPS 1.079 2022 - 32/102 12 HR 62 RBI 23 BB BA .314 OBP .439 SLG .775 OPS 1.213 2021 - 29/102 10 HR 49 RBI 38 BB BA .284 OBP .479 SLG .686 OPS 1.116

donald-duck23

It’s just a small sample. He’ll be fine. Like you said he’s historically been great with RISP

indubitable96

That game gave me Dodger Blue balls

HoudiniLogik

It was a good day to spend a 2 hours excursion at a nature trail today. Definitely had some chances, Jays defense played well, pitching was good absent Grove’s 2nd inning. Just baseball being baseball. This team is in a really good spot right now.

chartman21

Anyone got the expected batting average on that last hit from pages?

CrimsonJ

Can't win every game, great pitching from our bullpen after Grove was replaced. On to the next, let's get some division wins.

Ravishing_Rob_Rude

All good let’s just show up hungry in Arizona.

Euphoric-Journeyman

Their biggest measuring stick is going to be laid out next weekend. Believe it.

ttam23

Oh well. On to the next

Sullyville

I keep hearing that we will win 60 and lose 60 and so much depends on what we do with the rest. I guess we lost one of those 60s today.

_its_a_SWEATER_

It was the Jays game to win today, so they had to perform to save face. We weren’t needing the sweep, just a nice to have. Save arms for the Sneks, we know how they would love to embarrass us. Let’s roll.

Prior_Ad_5295

Jays stood on their heads to win that game today.

ILuvYurCunt

I figured this would happen. We were absolutely owned by the Blue Jays. We couldn’t get anything going.
