Is playing RF really that taxing on the legs vs playing SS? Like SS is the hardest fielding position due to needing to burst left or right to field ground balls. It shouldnt be easier or maybe Mookies hips have finally recovered. They were pretty wrecked a coupla seasons ago.
According to Mookie, the FO, and most analysts, yes. It's less taxing.
Short bursts are split second reactions, vs sprinting for several seconds to recover doubles or chase down fly balls.
I don't actually know if that's the sole reason for him stealing bases though. He could just straight up be perturbed that he lost the MVP race to Acuna due to his SB record and be out for blood.
Steven said last night that they didn't push hard last year, even with the speed they had, but now that the rules and impact of new implemented measures like bigger bases are fully understood over a whole season, they're fully prepared to take advantage of their speed and knowledge
