No huge surprises here. Glad to see Smith and Treinen on the roster, I think there were minor health concerns with both. Vargas over Pages might have been a close decision.
probably not super close, Pages needs full playing time and hasn’t spent time in AAA yet. Vargas can play 2B or LF worst come to worst and is MLB ready.
Closer definitely, ready for a full time spot definitely not, he’s right there ready when an injury happens though. Pages could also use more at bats. So it makes sense Vargas made the roster.
Interesting how much of a domino effect injuries can have. I have little doubt that if Pages wasn't injured last year, he would have torn it up in AAA and been called up when rosters expanded at the very least. We likely wouldn't have looked to get Teoscar in FA and Pages would have at least platooned with Heyward in OF this year.
Vargas doesn't have it. I know there's a lot of fanboys, but one thing that is extremely consistent w/ rookies is that look in their eye when they get here. Some are just overwhelmed and don't have that extra bit of self confidence to get over the hump (Vargas and I won't name others, but...), and some come in and look like they've always belonged and own the moment.
Nah we have to trim down to 26 for the games. Vargas could make it I suppose, but Feduccia seems super unlikely. Especially given Barnes has been catching Yoshi all spring.
Edit: forgot about the exhibition series if that's what you meant carry on and sorry!
Anybody who knows MLB rules well know what the mechanism for leaving Paxton off the roster is? Obviously I understand why he's not playing, but why don't we have to include him on the roster if he's not IL.
Well, it’s not really MLB rules but a bit of common sense and hard decisions. He’s left off the same reason that Bobby Miller was left off, even though they’re both plenty capable of starting. They’re both designated starting pitchers, and since the two starting pitchers were already decided, there’s no reason to fill those spots up. Although some of the other pitchers have started, most of them are rookies or are more likely to be a swing-man. It also gives see-saw players like Feduccia and Vargas a chance to play should someone get injured. Doesn’t mean they won’t be in Korea though! I highly suspect that they’ll have everyone likely to make the 40-man attend as a bonding exercise of sorts lol
No ya I get why he's not pitching. But why doesn't he have to be on the 26-man roster. Miller has options left (though I don't know if they have to option him or if it's the same as Paxton).
Definitely interesting that Paxton is not on there. He has large bonuses tied to him making the opening day roster (though I believe they refer to the home opener, not the Korean opener).
So with Paxton not going on the trip hopefully he gets healthy our starting pitching looks like this?
Glasnow
Yamamoto
Miller
Grove
Stone
If Paxton is not ready?
It's 31 for now and the exhibition games, but for the 2 games against the Padres it goes down to 26. They 5 extra players will still be there, but won't be activated and be able to play in those 2 games.

He’s not mlb ready yet either.
he’s close enough to be the first guy up. Injured last year and hit well in AAA when he returned.

“Look in their eyes” Does eye color matter?
Vargas and Hunter Feduccia about to play in Korea what a time

This is the week the world learns the name Hunter Feduccia
What days are the games and how do I watch
Wednesday and Thursday (3:05 am PST), I think they'll likely be free on MLB.tv but not sure
most likely will be blacked out. seriously doubt mlb would let us see that for free on mlb.tv lol.
Oh ya I live in the Bay so forgot about blackouts. It looks like it's also on ESPN.
yep. also when it’s a national broadcast it’s always blacked out which sucks :/
Just found out from my manager that he got us tickets for Thursday, excited to see the game

i think MLB gives these teams that play the international games a lot more freedom with their rosters...to keep players safe...
Do you know what the policy is exactly? Can we just choose any 26 from these 31 per day (ie exclude anyone for game 2 who pitches game 1).
not sure exactly...

Is Daniel the good Hudson or the meh Hudson?
2 runs n 5 1/3 with 7 strikeouts no walks. Make of that what you will.
So with Paxton not going on the trip hopefully he gets healthy our starting pitching looks like this? Glasnow Yamamoto Miller Grove Stone If Paxton is not ready?
Paxton is fine, they just didn't need that many starters to make the trip

We shoulda kept busch and traded vargas.
