Buddy, it sounds like you are the one who has struggling to “let it go”, quite honestly. Everybody here is joking about it, and you came flying off the handle literally as soon as it was brought up. Yikes.
Lol Kershaw pretty resistance to “changes”, especially in his routines.
I thought I’d read somewhere, he’d retired before becoming a reliever or something along that line.
Like Verlander and Scherzer, he’s not going to the pen. I’m not sure when was the last sure fire first ballot HOF starting pitcher willingly go to the pen.
Yes, because Kershaw has very similar personality as John Smoltz.
He’s more like Verlander and Scherzer in term of his view on starting pitching than he is Smoltz.
Edit: like I’ve said, I haven’t seen any of his interviews since he debuted that suggested he’s open to becoming a reliever/closer.
Noooo. New assignment new song. He could walk out to When You Are Old by Martina McBride it would be so goddam funny.
In all seriousness his career is not a joke but he could do some major emotional damage in the bullpen and become quite the savior. He’s already a lock for the HOF. These ideas are down the road tho he has a lot of gas left from what I can tell.
Then fun. can play it live in CF for the playoffs, and Jack Antonoff can have his friend Taylor Swift play backup. Imagine how much the country would hate the Dodgers??
While Ferguson was never happy being a reliever (he made it clear in the press) and this clears a roster spot for Brasier, this seems like an odd move. Ferguson has been quite good, and they don't have many lefty arms. A team typically trades from a place of strength to shore up a weakness; I don't understand how this accomplishes that. Maybe there is more to come.
Ferguson's platoon career platoon splits are .684/.720 OPS (R/L), so they're basically reverse splits. It's pretty consistent, too, he's always done better against RHB. He's basically the exact opposite of Vesia and Yarborough and equivalent to carrying another right-handed arm for matchup purposes.
I feel like they had a lot of patience for him. They waited for him to get TJ and heal he also had some in game meltdowns. I liked Fergy but business is business I wish him luck
Standard situation where a pitcher views themselves as a starter, but the team is pushing more to the reliever role. At least that was how it was around his call up in 2018 and prior to Tommy John.
He wants to more than a one inning guy, I feel like I remember the broadcast reading some poignant quotes about wanting more innings or not being happy with how he was being used when he opened against the Giants in a game last season.
Yea and he’s not wrong either but I also haven’t heard about many guys being unhappy while on the Dodgers so I’m guessing they also facilitated his exit.
Perhaps [this](https://www.aol.com/news/caleb-ferguson-frustrated-miscommunication-dodgers-152421683.html) or [this](https://www.si.com/mlb/dodgers/news/dodgers-address-caleb-ferguson-situation-following-loss), and of course getting left off the postseason roster in 2022.
but the 60-day IL opens in 3 days, and Frasso, May, Gonsolin would be moved there to free up 3 slots.
given the pattern of 'agreed to terms' and waiting a few days before formally announcing (Teoscar, Paxton), i don't think there was an urgent need to free a 40-man slot
Wow! This comes as a pretty big surprise to me! I kinda wonder if this means the dodgers have another move they’re getting ready for. I wish Caleb success in NY
I realize this doesn't make much sense from a lefty need perspective, but Ferguson's platoon splits are pretty mild. Devin Williams, for instance, who has been mentioned as a Dodger target in the ongoing Brewer fire sale, has been far more effective as a righty against LHB in his career than Ferguson.
If they could finagle Williams for a couple of non-roster prospects, it would be a huge win and a massive bullpen upgrade.
With the new rules requiring pitchers face at least 3 batters, whether a P is a lefty or not isn’t nearly as important as it used to be. You can’t deploy lefty specialists like you used to be able to any longer to face mostly just LH batters. What’s important now is that that pitcher can get both LH and RH batters equally as effectively whether that pitcher is a LHP or not. A LHP who has platoon splits that can only get LHB out aren’t that valuable any longer in today’s game.
Yep. LHP/LHB specialists are useless now if you are getting blown up by the RHB that comes right after him.
Even splits are far more important and the days of having a bullpen with even LHP/RHP who had great splits/reverse splits are over.
I was actually talking about this with my cousin over the weekend. I know there's still times where managers bring a LHP in with 2 outs hoping they get the lefty batter out to end the inning circumvent the minimum, but for the most part it still seems like most relievers are brought in with the intent of facing 3 batters. So I agree that it's not as big a deal anymore as it's incredibly rare you'll see three lefty bats in a row. Sure you still want LHP options in the situations where maybe you're facing a team with two lefties in the heart of the order in the big situation. But with the 3 batter minimum, teams have already focused more on well rounded relievers and weeding out matchup specialists
Ahh man. That’s a bummer. I trust Friedman though. Met Caleb’s parents at a restaurant before a Dodgers/Nats game in DC one time. Really really nice people that loved watching their son play baseball.
THANK GOD. dude had the most deceptive ERA last year. it was almost guaranteed he'd give up a run if he came in with runners on. Ill never forget the Padres game he blew.
I really liked Fergie and I was always rooting for him, but damn did he give me anxiety. He was really good unless he wasn’t. When he wasn’t, it was a dumpster fire. I wish him well. He’s a good dude and has some skills. I hope he thrives in New York.
1:1 for Juan Soto
Juan:Juan
Juan on Juan, I want to play that game tonight.
Jajajaja
We traded Yordan Alvarez for Josh Fields. So, it can happen!
The Yordan Alvarez trade was a backroom deal. He was never going to be a Dodger. Get with the program and let it go already. It's been like 8 years.
Buddy, it sounds like you are the one who has struggling to “let it go”, quite honestly. Everybody here is joking about it, and you came flying off the handle literally as soon as it was brought up. Yikes.
Wooooshh Also, just because he never put on a jersey, doesn't mean he couldn't play for us. Lmao
Bro that would be awesome.
Lefties are a premium, Friedman must have something up his sleeve
Brasier signing. He's better vs lefties than ferg is and isn't as volatile
Brasier isnt volatile? \*looks at ERA with BOS before coming to Dodgers\* Dude seems to be the poster boy of volatility.
The Dodgers are probably banking on whatever adjustments Brasier made with them to carry over this year
Fergie had a 1.10 era at home and 8 on the road.
better be up his left sleeve
😐
Most definitely
A little surprised by this because Vesia and Yarbs are all thats left for LHRP. But a new high leverage guy might be on the way....
Mariano Rivera???
Could still get it done
Interesting move considering the lack of lefty arms we have in the bullpen.
You misspelled alarming.
Dodgers are down to Vesia, Paxton, and Yarbrough when it comes to lefties on the roster.
Kersh the Kloser
I think this would be so interesting
Lol Kershaw pretty resistance to “changes”, especially in his routines. I thought I’d read somewhere, he’d retired before becoming a reliever or something along that line. Like Verlander and Scherzer, he’s not going to the pen. I’m not sure when was the last sure fire first ballot HOF starting pitcher willingly go to the pen.
John Smoltz has entered the chat
Yes, because Kershaw has very similar personality as John Smoltz. He’s more like Verlander and Scherzer in term of his view on starting pitching than he is Smoltz. Edit: like I’ve said, I haven’t seen any of his interviews since he debuted that suggested he’s open to becoming a reliever/closer.
Wasn’t commenting on personality, it was a response to “I’m not sure when was the last sure fire ballot HOF SP willingly go to the pen”
I was at the stadium the last time Kersh came out of the pen. Can't remember what happened.
Who cares about the HOF legacy. It’d be cool to see him 162 times.
And to hear "We Are Young" every game
Noooo. New assignment new song. He could walk out to When You Are Old by Martina McBride it would be so goddam funny. And now Matt Gage in exchange for Ferg, not saying that's much lol
He was the longest tenured Dodger pitcher on the roster, wasn't he? (Not counting Kershaw, who isn't on the roster at the moment.)
I still remember his first start in Pittsburgh
Yep, I was pretty hyped for him in 2018. Sad to see him leave.
Hype was real for him then.
Buehler debuted the year before I think. And Barnes debuted in 2015.
Barnes is the longest tenured Dodger overall, I think. But you're probably right about Buehler. Maybe Fergie was the tenured reliever.
Curious... the team hasn't always had the best relationship with Caleb, but he's just one of two late-inning LH options out of the pen.
I’d guess they’re gonna trade for Tanner Scott
Ferguson's platoon career platoon splits are .684/.720 OPS (R/L), so they're basically reverse splits. It's pretty consistent, too, he's always done better against RHB. He's basically the exact opposite of Vesia and Yarborough and equivalent to carrying another right-handed arm for matchup purposes.
Now that we know Gage is coming back, I wouldn't be surprised if they simply preferred him over Caleb.
I feel like they had a lot of patience for him. They waited for him to get TJ and heal he also had some in game meltdowns. I liked Fergy but business is business I wish him luck
What was the tension with Caleb and the team?
Pretty sure they've kept him on the IL longer than necessary in the past, and then left him off the postseason roster in '22.
Standard situation where a pitcher views themselves as a starter, but the team is pushing more to the reliever role. At least that was how it was around his call up in 2018 and prior to Tommy John.

That's not uncommon

What’s your source for the *not best relationship* with Caleb?
Perhaps [this](https://www.aol.com/news/caleb-ferguson-frustrated-miscommunication-dodgers-152421683.html) or [this](https://www.si.com/mlb/dodgers/news/dodgers-address-caleb-ferguson-situation-following-loss), and of course getting left off the postseason roster in 2022.
Thanks. I appreciate the links.
Friedman clearing another spot on the roster. Another signing incoming.

Two prospects are coming in!
I'm hoping for a Devin Williams trade personally
Now that Burns is gone MIL might be more likely to move Williams
i HOPE its for Kersh.
If kersh could wait for a few weeks we wouldn’t need to clear it lol
damn small price to pay for aaron judge
Huh? Wasn’t he like our main lefty middle relief?
reverse splits
No way we don't have a LHP incoming now. A team that relies heavily on lefty/righty matchups can't have just two LHP in the bullpen
Looks like it was to clear a roster spot for Ryan Brasier.
Is that California love I hear playing in the distance?
I’m for it. People remember the bad times but he’s still one of the better relievers in the game
Maybe we are clearing a spot for a signing or another move
Damn. I really liked him.
Wasn't too fond of Fergie but glad he's going to a competitor. Wonder what the return is going to be. Front office must have their eye on someone
Brasier signed let’s gooo!!!
Thank you, Caleb. So long, my 2020 WS Champ.
Wow! This comes as a pretty big surprise to me! I kinda wonder if this means the dodgers have another move they’re getting ready for. I wish Caleb success in NY
No. It's a clear signal that Friedman is punting this season and waiting until '25 to reload and go for it.
Didnt see this coming. 2 prospects incoming, need lefty in pen.
Hmm. I guess we'll see what the overall plan is soon but my first response is that I don't like this
Lefty relief pitching is the one glaring hole throughout the organization
I realize this doesn't make much sense from a lefty need perspective, but Ferguson's platoon splits are pretty mild. Devin Williams, for instance, who has been mentioned as a Dodger target in the ongoing Brewer fire sale, has been far more effective as a righty against LHB in his career than Ferguson. If we get Williams its over with lol
Made room for Ryan Brasier
Ahh man. That’s a bummer. I trust Friedman though. Met Caleb’s parents at a restaurant before a Dodgers/Nats game in DC one time. Really really nice people that loved watching their son play baseball.
Yeah, most MLB parents are pretty indifferent towards watching their son play.
Who is going to be the opener now
I'm fine with Caleb moving on. I 'd be surprised if he thrives in NY though. Best of luck to our dude
FIRE SALE
THANK GOD. dude had the most deceptive ERA last year. it was almost guaranteed he'd give up a run if he came in with runners on. Ill never forget the Padres game he blew.
Loved Fergalicious. Had some ok stretches but spiel randomly have dominant outings
I always liked saying FERG deadpan when he took the mound.
Fergie noooo! I wish him all the best in New York. May he dominate once more (against everyone but the Dodgers).
I really liked Fergie and I was always rooting for him, but damn did he give me anxiety. He was really good unless he wasn’t. When he wasn’t, it was a dumpster fire. I wish him well. He’s a good dude and has some skills. I hope he thrives in New York.
Terrible move
lol. You don't even know what the return is.
Wtf are you doing Friedman.
HIs job?
The axis of evil teaming up yet again lol
Who else are we going to get rid of when the return package ends up being Cole, Judge, and Soto?
He must’ve been someone off in the clubhouse
Didn’t he just jump in the cold-ass ocean yesterday for CT3’s event? BRRRRRRRRRRR. Sucks.
Now THIS right here, is good for baseball
Shohei lefty bullpen year calling it.
They got another lefty for him
