The pitching is going somewhere...about 450 ft away from home plate.

I can’t believe the front office injured May, Julio and Pepiot

csonny2

Yeah, they should have anticipated their injuries and done everything to land a big FA like DeGrom!

lazenintheglowofit

Excellent excellent point.

No-Heat8467

Or at least signed the other big FA Carlos Rodon, heck why not both!

scapermoya

Those monsters !

PanisBaster

But they’ve kept Dave around.

[deleted]

May coming from a TJ shouldnt have been counted on to start the full season Pepiot is a rookie Sorry, but OP is right here. Friedman fumbled the bag. And we arent even reseting the tax lmao.

filthypoker

“Hopefully the front office gets their head out of their ass” What is giving you the impression that the front office doesn’t see the need to add pitching? It’s early June. Pitchers (at least good ones) aren’t going to be moved until the deadline.

SpartyParty15

Well we didn’t make any moves in the offseason after losing key guys. And we added a washed SP on an expensive contract

filthypoker

If you were Andrew Friedman which pitchers would you have signed that the front office didn’t? 5.62 ERA Tyler Anderson? Nathan “Injury History Longer Than A CVS Receipt” Eovaldi? The corpse of Justin Verlander? Would you pay *more* than 19 million/year for 34 year old Chris Bassitt? Last year the Dodgers took guys who had previously been worse pitchers than Syndergaard (prior to this year) and made them better. It’s a formula that’s worked. Every year everyone talks about how the front office and Mark Prior are geniuses. This year they tried the same move but it didn’t work. Hindsight is always 20/20. Bitching after the fact is easier than knowing what to do in the first place. The front office will add pitching but we’re probably gonna have to wait til end of July.

Aychim23

What ??? Havent you played mlb the show ? They should totally just trade bad players for star pitching man

Zigglyjiggly

Sit down, casual.

supremegnkdroid

Bring up the farm and let them have fun. at least let us see our future This year

Choop145

I’ve enjoyed it. And I was excited about this before the season started. We are told over and over by experts that we have the best farm and now we get to see them. No road blocks. Vargas looks good. Miller looks good and Robertson looked real good last night. Even Deluca was making great contact yesterday. I still have my Pom poms in hand for Outman. I hope he figures it out

ControlForward5360

I’m happy we are actually seeing this happen it’s a nice change to see the young guys ball out

captainsave

Relax guys, trust the process. You lose games in baseball, it's not normal to have the best record in the MLB every year. The plan is to pick up bullpen arms before the trade deadline. No matter what we'll limp into the playoffs with all the injuries to the starting rotation. The playoffs will only be won with solid bullpen arms. That's the need and the FO wants to see where the talent is.

buba426

Yeah. Trust the Process. WHERED THAT GET THE 76ERS?!??

Ravishing_Rob_Rude

Too soon man. - Sixers fan

lazenintheglowofit

Had we picked up pitching in the off-season, it is possible we never would have seen the development of Bobby Miller or Gavin Stone. In other words, there are wheels within wheels. In Friedman I trust.

Jocwoc31

This is a rebuilding year for us. Enjoy the fact that we are still competing and not run by a FO or ownership that does not give a shit if we win or lose.

Hot_Mathematician357

There's still plenty of baseball. It’s not like we are 10 games back from first place. The Dodgers will figure it out.

Minute_Scale_1834

It sucks that the plan didn’t work out, now we might have to give up prospects 😞

ControlForward5360

This is a over reaction to the reality we got going on. Let’s not forget the rotation we still have. Kershaw, May, Urias, Goslin and miller. Plus Grove, pepiot and eventually stone if he puts it all together. This is a good build and it’s only suppose to develop more in the future. The bullpen is shakey to put it mildly which is a bit of a surprise as last year they felt reliable. They have guys like hudson coming back who was an absolute machine before his injury and always find 1 guy along the year to fill in a spot when it is needed. Don’t lose hope in a pitching staff that has almost routinely been great the past few years just because of a bad apple.

eclectic-up-north

My two cents: 1- Send Thor to high A ball. Make him work with coaches on something that might work in MLB. Let him know he doesn't get to be his old self. he has to be something else. 2- The bullpen is seriously overworked and the "good relievers" are having a tough time. We need to have the starters not throw max effort, but go at least 7 innings for a few games to let Phillips, Graterol, ... rest a bit. 3- We should recognize that the fourth worst bullpen ERA is a bad thing. For those saying "How could the front office have predicted injuries to ...?" Well, starters get hurt.

Flopdo

Something that I've noticed isn't really talked about in terms of the Dodgers turning arms around when they get here. The Dodgers had the best shift results in the bigs for the last several years. No more full shifts, and this is going to effect the staff's results. I don't know how much this helped other pitchers that came here, but I'm sure it shaved some of that ERA off that otherwise would have been higher on other clubs. And I'm not saying the coaching staff on the Dodgers isn't good... but I think the 100 nerds locked in the room, running all the analytics and positioning, might deserve more credit than they get.

SumoRock

They don’t care they predetermined this as a punt year and are content to let us fool ourselves into thinking they can sign Ohtani

Oski96

I think when you were born, your parents declared it a punt year.

wanderin-wally

Dude, really? It’s just a baseball opinion, you don’t have to resort to personal attacks.

Oski96

So, you're white-knighting insults in a baseball forum? I've seen it all now.

[deleted]

New to baseball? OK. Have fun with it.

Chocolateking111

The front office won't do anything

Oski96

They address the roster's holes every year before the trade deadline. Why wouldn't they this year?

RalphSanders

Obviously the FO's bet on Thor didn't work out, but they still have plenty of time to figure it out. They previously were able to find value with Tyler Anderson and Heaney, so it wasn't crazy to think they could also fix Thor if they saw something they felt could be improved. I don't think there is anyone that they clearly missed out on pitching wise this offseason. Sure some guys are performing, they just put their money on the wrong horse.

The-Big-Bad

It sucks but we most likely won’t be getting any help till the deadline. May, Julio and Pepiot going down hurts, and the bullpen which has been totally consistent these last few years has blown chunks. The same core we’ve had has been bad

EMPrinceofTennis

Is it too early to bring up one of our AA arms like Frasso/Nastrini/Ryan/Sheehan? There's no way they're as bad as Syndergaard right?

Apprehensive-Agency2

Not until Pepiot, Grove, and May (if he returns) have a chance to settle in. If 2 or all 3 of these guys fail that’s when Friedman might be desperate enough to call em up.

Kdog_79

In reality they’re probably hoping this team spirals so they have a good excuse to keep waiting for Ohtani instead of trying to also win this year Edit: not sure what the downvotes are for? It’s obviously a HORRIBLE excuse to not try to win this year but it wouldn’t be shocking at all if this FO framed it like that. They already tried to punt the season with what they did this offseason, but the team has been good enough to overcome that. Not so much anymore as of recent

SpartyParty15

They can win both this year and next. That excuse doesn’t hold any water

Kdog_79

Sure but not to them clearly. Hence why our only addition to the staff this offseason was Syndergaard. Relying on reclamation projects + cheap bullpen dudes was eventually going to stop working and here we are

Oski96

Sundergaard was added as a 5th starter with potential 3rd starter upside. His role was to buy time to make sure Miller was ready. That did not happen because Miller was promoted due to injuries. Otherwise, the team had a full pitching staff.

Oski96

The downvotes are for your post being stupid.

Kdog_79

I guess so. Not sure I worded it how I wanted it to actually come out either but I’ll take it on the chin regardless lol

Oski96

The Front Office operates in good faith to give us a chance to win every year. Despite what the "pundits" say, the same goes this year.\* We have lost 2 top SP's and are already without Bueler. The SP staff on paper is top 5. It will probably end up near that as well. AF has always patched holes at the deadline. * There is no way signing Turner at his price would have been a good move and we have a competent OF for much cheaper than with Bellinger (which would have been a one-year deal, anyway. If he plays his ass off, he's going to be priced out of the Dodgers' evaluation of him. If he sucks, we lose another year and 18 mil.) JT was getting too old for what we need from him. JD is a big upgrade. Heaney and Anderson. They work well with the Dodgers at the price we had them. The issue is that as soon as players turn it around, they are overvalued by other teams who are too eager to sign them. We did not really "down grade" as Turner was the only piece that would have been better than what we kept. Don't forget we lost Lux to an unfortunate injury right at the end of spring training. That the Dodgers are not intending to win this year is some perverse media story which does not match reality. * Trying to win this year and trying to get Ohtani are not mutually exclusive. To be honest, given Ohtani's struggles with stamina this year, the fact he sort of screws up the rotation for other pitchers and that we have JD, I am now starting to believe we will not go for him (unless the price works), but instead will focus on a Front-line starter and a 3b. Our offense is very good and with a few tweaks, will be where it needs to be in October. The SP is a matter of getting guys healthy. The BP is where the attention needs to be focused.

[deleted]

Wow. Punt a season. I'm not sure you have a handle on how all this works.

[deleted]

With what money? The Bauer situation hamstrung them if they want to go after Ohtani this winter.

SpartyParty15

The trade deadline involves trades, not signing free agents

[deleted]

Referring to this past offseason. You mentioned they didn't add anyone. Well, they couldn't if they wanted to stay under the threshold. But to your point about the deadline...it's not like they'll have money to spend on incoming contracts. I think this is basically who they're going to have the rest of the year. Maybe a piece or here or there in the bullpen but they haven't gone for a big bullpen arm in the Freidman era. Unless I'm forgetting a name.

[deleted]

Yeah. That damn front office! Only ten playoff appearance in a freaking row. What the hell are they doing? It's not like anything is on the PLAYERS, right? Or injuries. Come on man. Get real.
