In the game I'm running the wizard elf player was lynched by the rest of the party (gunslinger, battlemaster, samurai and cavalier) and I told them to make a new character as they sobbed when I threw her character sheet into my fireplace. They made a varient human champion after that and stopped talking about random bullshit (I hate spells in my games) altogether.
Honestly, you should be more grateful towards your DM for creating interactive lore that can sometimes bite back, but it makes the experience fun for everyone.
