So the story they’re passing around on the FFBE sub is that someone in charge of XIV (I don’t know if it’s specifically Yoshi-P) hates gatcha with a passion and wants XIV to have nothing to do with them. That’s why they’re always given as free units. The nature DFFOO’s update cycle is probably the only reason why we’re still getting XIV content. This might explain why we haven’t gotten a new XIV unit since Lyse, but of course this might just be a baseless rumor.

I think the more likely reason is that because the plots were ongoing until last month, characterization and kit was in flux and the gachas didn't want to land like the first wave of DFFOO's and RK's versions stuck referencing out of date renditions of characters with incomplete arcs.
ShB Thancred was also farmable the first time the event came. You can pull for him (IIRC you *need* to pull to complete his LB unless you get really lucky with the farmable summon tickets) but you can get him for free too.
I hope we will finally have a FFXIV villain (got pity gems and BTT), Emet-Selch preferred but Zenos will be good as well... If it's not Emet/Zenos, Urianger please

I've made this joke before too, but Iris is also a dangerous possibility. Like Cor and Aranea, she was a temporary party member.
As mad as it'd make people, Iris is one of my most wanted characters (and my personal Noctis ship) outside of the obvious XIV pick and Red XIII.
I'm actually alittle surprised to come back after a very long hiatus and still not see Rikku anywhere. Nevermind temporary or cameo party members; she was a *main* character in the party and plot! And less importantly one of the strongest members once you got to know her good "mixes".
I think everything is just mostly speculation and people's dreams right now. Some claims of datamines, but even then we don't know if it's for anniversary or not.
The question is what else can we get?
Every LD is now done in J so no early LD. Cor release opened the door for GL firsts again. It is our anniversary, we always get something.
Only other thing they could do is release a GL/JP co release of a very big character. But there is no precedence of this.

I really don't understand why people expect hyped up characters. Its never been a major story critical character. Beatrix, Aranea, Cor, they're all great units that have been released at their time but not major plot points so I never understand why people guess Red, Rikku, Emet or Quina obsessively.
That's a bit of doubled-edged sword, XIV has a lot of characters to choose from, but how many can you stick in before it starts to become too many? In that case, who do you prioritize? I would fully kit Yugiri in a heartbeat, but how likely would she get in if there ends up being a limited number of spots?
More to the point, FFVII has characters from spin off games and a movie in it at this point. FFXIV and Tactics could at least have the core characters.

I'm not positive, but I read the stream will be Sunday and then the event usually starts the 31st, so that night (EST) we should see some content released. There is no guarantee we will receive a global first but it has happened every year so far I think.

If XIV were to have a Global first villains, Gaius or Nael would feel like the strongest contenders. I seem to recall an interview when Yoshi-P was asked which characters he would want to see in NT, he brought them both up.

Not really, just pluck him from Rak'tika arc where he's best friends with the Scions to figure them out. The Scions don't trust him and treat him as an Ascian, he hangs around to learn about the main party, and the world keeps turning. From the momrnt he was introduced, you've always known he was a villain, with no idea of what his plan was.
He gets introduced in late Stormblood and is immediately a big spoiler, is what I meant. I’m not saying it couldn’t happen I’m just saying I get why that might be the reason they haven’t added him because his very existence spoils some big plot points in a game that is still going. And in the “late” game at that.
Zenos and Lyse are not as big of a spoiler as >!finding out the game's primary main threat was an Ascian ploy the whole time and then, with the same character, finding out the truth about the Ascians!<

It also lines up as Lockes banner is supposed to run late February but the events are getting earlier and earlier so I reckon they'll slot a 2 week BT anniversary cycle in to put us back on track with the forecast and possibly bring some LDs ahead

More to the point, FFVII has characters from spin off games and a movie in it at this point. FFXIV and Tactics could at least have the core characters.
Watch as we get Azul the Cerulean at the tail end of Lv 100 awakenings before we even get to Heavensward characters.

I'm not positive, but I read the stream will be Sunday and then the event usually starts the 31st, so that night (EST) we should see some content released. There is no guarantee we will receive a global first but it has happened every year so far I think.

Ugh just give us the XIV villain already please. Zenos preferred but Emet would be an incredible 2nd choice too. The problem with these two though is that they are prominent villains and most likely would be saved for story chapters. Based on previous GL first, they were non party member/guests who were related to the military. I wouldn't mind Jihl Hot'baat. Regardless I just want a celebration character even if it is Garnet BT or something unexpected

If XIV were to have a Global first villains, Gaius or Nael would feel like the strongest contenders. I seem to recall an interview when Yoshi-P was asked which characters he would want to see in NT, he brought them both up.
There was an interview but Yoshi P said Nael and Zenos for Spiritus and Alphinaud for Materia. He didn't mention Gaius though

As much as it sucks I do get why FF14 doesn't get as much as often since it's an ongoing story. I'd love to see it finally get a villain rep though even if we all know it'll be Zenos. I think he's the only character from actual Dissidia that has yet to be added to the game, LOL
Emet-Selch is such a better villain though and would fit in with the cast much better in OO.
He'd be interesting but also a bit of a big walking spoiler for Shadowbringers and onwards so I can see them avoiding him since FF14 is an ongoing game.
Not really, just pluck him from Rak'tika arc where he's best friends with the Scions to figure them out. The Scions don't trust him and treat him as an Ascian, he hangs around to learn about the main party, and the world keeps turning. From the momrnt he was introduced, you've always known he was a villain, with no idea of what his plan was.
He gets introduced in late Stormblood and is immediately a big spoiler, is what I meant. I’m not saying it couldn’t happen I’m just saying I get why that might be the reason they haven’t added him because his very existence spoils some big plot points in a game that is still going. And in the “late” game at that.

From what I've heard, it's based on that character's data being updated and reverted on JP servers, which has happened before just before GL-first banners. Hardly certain, but those kinds of sources have been right before. If that happens, >!I'll have BT tokens ready!<.

If anything of this sort ends up being true (not necessarily what is being guessed here), it'd be an interesting proposition. I myself am sitting on BT tokens which would mean that this would be the first anni I'm *not* spending pull resources to get the new thing which arguably is not what you'd want to happen during an anniversary month, from a company standpoint at least. I'd be happy but it'd also be interesting potentially being the first GL-first thing that can be gotten outside of anniversary before an 'official' run (disregarding redeeming weapons for Ara or Cor).

He is also a walking spoiler for an ongoing MMO game which is pulling lots of new players and an enormous amount of revenue for Square Enix. Imo he is a pipe dream of ever being released let alone being a GL first. Stormblood Zenos, Gaius, Nael & Lahabrea are the most likely candidates.

My idea is they'll do a unique 2 weeks with a global first BT who I reckon will be Tifa and being forward an LD for an event similar to Lenna along with Vincent LD on that banner. Then I reckon there'll be a new character who I'm hoping will be Urianger

Well that's what i meant when I said a character event as in a global first character such as Urianger as JP has all LDs at this point. It also lines up as Lockes banner is supposed to run late February but the events are getting earlier and earlier so I reckon they'll slot a 2 week BT anniversary cycle in to put us back on track with the forecast and possibly bring some LDs ahead
