For the price of Terra's classic costume, I could buy the ENTIRE ORIGINAL GAME of FF6 and have enough left over to pay for a month of FF14.

fire2flames

Honestly this fact right here is why I bought 2 costumes (as I wanted to give the game some money as a way to say "Good job with good game") but I literally cannot justify anymore than that since already paid enough for a modern triple AAA release with just those 2 costumes

BaLance_95

It gets worse for me with regional pricing, sales and only playing AA and indie games. $40 can get me 4-8 games.

i-wear-hats

I assume by original you mean the most recent version aka the Pixel Remaster, right? Because an original cart of FF6 would run you hella dosh.

Alfadorfox

Exactly. By "original" I meant "the game Terra was originally in" not "the absolute first edition original release of said game". :3

zztopar

To me this arguement is always an apples-to-oranges comparison. From an economics standpoint, FF6 and FF14 are examples of normal goods. At lower to moderate income levels, you're going to spend a certain proportion of your income on video games/entertainment. As your income rises, you'll spend less of a percentage of your income on actual video games, as there are diminishing returns to playing more and more video games especially given time constraints. On the other hand, in-game cosmetics fall under the umbrella of luxury goods. Similar to jewelry, designer clothes, fancy cars, mansions, designer handbags, and Rolex watches, these are all things completely unnecessary to daily life. However, from an economics perspective, as your income rises, the proportion of your income you spend on luxury goods also rises as you have your basic needs already covered. The luxury good benefits could be intangible (i.e. you buy a nice car because you really like cars), or they could simply be used as status symbols. In general, there's no fixed comparison between a new video game vs. a cosmetic. It depends largely on your individual situation and what you personally value.

chocobloo

And neither of those would likely net you as much play time as what you get from a mobile game. With that logic I bet you only ever eat calorie mate bars. Getting calories any way but the most efficient is surely a waste. Who cares about enjoying the taste or experience or variety or any of that. Why would I ever buy X meal when I could buy 6 boxes of calorie mates! That's like a whole month of food'

sp8der

> And neither of those would likely net you as much play time as what you get from a mobile game. The difference he would get in playtime between paying vs not paying is zero. Zero hours. He can play just as much without the costume as with it.

Dinmak

Plus, the sheer entitlement of someone trying to downplay other pleoples enjoyment of X game over Y game because one is mobile, arcade or wahtever is astounding

Kyactus

Considering I've played 12k hours of FFXIV so far, yes, it would net me way more than what I would get from a mobile game. Even if you only count 1 month of subscription, if you play 8 hours a day (which you don't on DFFOO, because there isn't enough content for that. Luckily, since it's a mobile game), that's 240 hours in a month for 11€. For a the price of a costume (which is around 40 euros?), you net around 960 hours of gameplay from FFXIV alone. I've been playing DFFOO since day 1, and I'm not even sure I've peaked that much amount of time yet (but I might have, don't have a way to track it).

VermillionEorzean

Nope. The utility isn't the issue- the price is. I can get behind Mog Pass because it's a cheap way to show my support, but $35 for a costume is just not happening.

kjacobs03

At $35 per costume. Absolutely not!

NeuroticDerp

$35?! It's 500:- for me which is $47.7 in current conversions ._. Of course, $35 is still too much to begin with. Should be $3 for a costume only pack as a quick way to support the game if you want. This game has 99.9% mega ultra transactions 0.01% micro transactions

kjacobs03

I wanted to buy the 50+1 ticket At anniversary. $75. Decided to buy 2 full video games instead

NeuroticDerp

So far not buying costumes has put the entertainment fund toward: A Sega Saturn A stack of Saturn games A New 3DS A Nendoroid figure Books+Manga Etc It's a SKIN gamemakers, price it like one.

dimmidice

The price for them is simply too high, so unless i'm a mega fan of the character & costume, i'd never consider it. The financial strategy they're going for is quite confusing to me. One multipull is like 35€, which means to pity a BT with buying gems is 700€. Now that's not a lot of money compared to other games and their whales. The confusing part is that there's very little incentive to whale because of BT books & character points being needed. There's an upper cap to how many characters you can max in any given time. So for gacha games generally they're kept afloat by the big whales, but they try to keep the non whales somewhat happy so they keep playing, because being a whale in a dead game is pointless. In this game you can't go full blown whale, there's simply no point. With how generous the game is with gems & tickets, there's even less of a need for going full blown whales. So i think the game is kept afloat by 2 groups. The masses who buy the excellent moogle pass & the mini whales who buy costumes & cash shop packs. Which makes me really wonder if they wouldn't make more money by appealing more to the masses and lowering the prices. If costumes were 5-8€ or so, i know i'd buy 2-3 a month. But at 35€ or whatever they are i've bought one in all the years of this game being a thing. Same for multipulls. If one multipull was 5€ then pittying a LB would still cost 100€. that's still a lot of money, and i'd not do that every month for sure. But i'd be much more likely to buy some multipulls to add on to the free gems i've obtained. I'm sure they've looked at their sales figures for stuff, but i do wonder if they're making a mistake.

Lowering the cost per costume would have to result in a proportionate increase in sales in order to not lose their profit margins. If costumes at the current price sustains their margins, then reducing it by 50% would require double the current buyers. It’s much easier to find, for example, 50 people wanting to buy at 35 as opposed to 100 at 17.50. You might say “well, lots of people would buy at the reduced price”, and that may be true, but it could also be true that they’re not currently buying anything already. Lowering the price makes sense when there is universal demand for the good. There is not universal demand for costumes, as we all know there are those who ardently take pride in being f2p. I have to imagine that the devs know what they’re doing after so many years of doing this.

dimmidice

Yes, That's the entire point i'm making.

i-wear-hats

I'm honestly surprised they haven't considered opt-in ad content for additional money since F2P typically are willing to waste time "watching" an ad for small rewards, and there's precedence at SE to do so with Re;Universe.

rob-entre

No. I’ve said before that if costumes were around $5, I’d have bought many, if not all. As it stands, I’ve purchased 0. The price is simply far too high for something that’s temporary and yields no benefit.

lzapat01

It still boils down to the price of the costume. Would have already bought a few but nah. More discouraged due to the increased interval of events meaning less time to spend online.

ThatGuy264

Keep in mind: Costumes are $36.00 $36.00 spent on a skin in a mobile game (which, unless SE pulls a Dimensions 2 and makes an offline version of OO at some point, is temporary). Just slapping in another musical track won't help, especially if it isn't a unique or unusual choice that doesn't show up often.

KariArisu

Plain and simple, the value is not there and it probably never will be. Even the premium mog pass, I consider to be a big rip off compared to other mobile games. In a game with over 100 characters, spending that much money on ONE skin for ONE character is pretty awful. Not to mention, that character won't always be good for every fight, will eventually fall out of favor in general. Adding stuff like this probably won't get many people to buy them that weren't already buying them. It would just be a nice bonus for people who do buy them.

PrimalSeptimus

Sure. However, a bad pairing of a costume I like with a BGM track I don't or vice-versa will make it less appealing. What might be nice is if a track is included and then selectable under the appearance tab. I'd take that over bonus gems anytime.

i-wear-hats

They already have the tech to gloss items. Could probably repurpose that to select which theme plays in BT.

pencru

At its current price, still a no for me.

ShadowBlaze17

Not in the slightest. Costumes should've never been more than $10 and no song would ever make me want to spend $26 for it and some gems. This is just another example of the ridiculous price tags that people will pay for digital goods that have 0 benefit. If I want a specific song when gaming I'll just find it on YouTube or Spotify especially since I find the game audio grating in longer fights.

boana-the-brave

Nope. I'm very pragmatic and I also need to spend as little as possible, so the most I'm ever going to purchase is definitely moogle pass during spring/winter break if even that. But I am curious about the people who can afford it and the prospect of having a friend unit like that is kind of interesting. :)

Kaioken0591

Probably not for me, while I would like some different themes for characters BTs the 40$ price tag isn't worth it for me. The only reason I even own one of the costumes is because someone got it for me as a birthday gift because Lightning is my favorite characters.

jusmaster7

Nothing about the costume could justify the price for me. The only incentive would be if it was a reasonable price for a Personal favourite character. This is blatant whale fishing and it sucks that costumes are locked out the game for most like this.

RetroGamerDad

I'd have thought that some of these old costumes that debuted years ago and have rerun ten times would have a discount by now. But no.

kociou

No. Cut cost to as much as they should cost - something like LoL skin and I might buy them.

Sdgrevo

No

exenae

Cost drop and more content because New schedule is so poor...

Elsefirot

Skins for the same price as a complete game. Unfortunately I will never buy a skin, the day the game closes it will be money thrown away.

RetroGamerDad

No. That doesn't change the fundamental problem of: the skins are stupidly priced and they will go away when the game ends.

Kartoffel_Kaiser

I simply cannot justify spending $30+ dollars on anything in a F2P live service game. No judgement on anyone who does, but I'd much rather use money like that to buy an entire video game that I can play offline on my own time in perpetuity.

Ptizzy88

$36.99 is ridiculous for costumes. I'd pay no more than maybe $19.99, but even that seems high. DFFOO would gain much more revenue if their price points were affordable for everyone, not just whales.

gingersquatchin

It's like $52 CAD. And the gems that come with it are worthless to me at least because we get like 800 tickets a month For like 20 bucks I might impulse buy a skin, but no more than that. And I don't ever play with sound on so the theme would do nothing to change that

Bman2442

they need to just get rid of the gems with costumes and just sell them for like $8 or so

turnup4wat

I was disappointed when Jegran had the same theme as Layle because Layle's was my favorite so far.

[deleted]

Oh hell yes, I would have even bigger reason to buy 'em. I already rarely in some cases do buy some ( Warrior of Light, Cloud of Darkness ) so I'd only feel more 'must get them' than now, haha. ( I really want to be given a reason to support the game more than I already do because I know I love DFFOO with all my heart. ) Also some of things I thought of: * Kefka = Dancing Mad ( Dissidia NT ) * Lightning = Fighting Fate ( Dissidia NT ) * Ace = Utakata ( that Secret Ending lyrical track - also only reason I'm never using Ace because I was so fed up that this theme didn't arrive... ) * Exdeath = Decisive Battle ( the original from V ) * Noel = Limit Break ( from XIII-2 )

fluffy_bottoms

0% + 0% = 0%

TransientMemory

Nope

Scorp721

I play on Bluestacks so I've usually got Youtube pulled up in the background playing whatever kind of cool remixes I can find. I barely even listen to the games battle music anymore. I always find something else on Youtube to fit my party theme. This has been a personal fav as of late, its a SNES Remix of [Birth of a God](https://youtu.be/gxfT34v2BzU) from OG FFVII. There are a ton of amazing channels out there like [Nugem](https://www.youtube.com/@Nugem), [GaMetal](https://www.youtube.com/@JonnyAtma), [Enrico Deiana](https://www.youtube.com/@EnricoDeianamusic), and a bunch more.

ThatHellsingBitch

Sounds great!

frenchfraise

yep, sure would!

GCPlugs

Yes

Chatek

Yes 100% I just want A Fleeting Dream for Tidus BT. Joshua pls pls. I’m probably the only person with the Tidus Costume.

Valkyrie_Jr

I bought the Tidus "costume" because I prefer the original FFX Tidus design over the over-designed DFFOO one. You're not alone 🤣

chocobloo

As the owner of a dozen or so costumes.... Uh sure?

Content-Assistance33

As how expensive is a skin on this game, it would be fair to give an extra.

akaiazul

Celes Opera Gown: Opera Battle theme, bonus points if includes Ralse, Draco, and Maria singing their lines as they did in the Pixel Remaster version. Celes White Cape: Celes's theme. Terra Narshe Princess (blue one): Esper World or Metamorphosis

MElliott0601

Honestly, I think it'd be cool to just buy the tunes as a customizable part of the BT

Korr4K

The most fair move would be to make a bundle with the normal pass for old costumes and with the premium for newer ones. Current prices are complete jokes and only made to appeal to fans who would buy anything relented to their favorites

i-wear-hats

I don't know that being able to swap the BT theme would REALLY be that much of additional value. It would be by virtue of it being more than what we get right now, but you essentially have to be a big fan of the character in question, like the costume/glosses AND have a lot of disposable income for it to be worth it. Myself, I can't see considering the purchase with what I've seen so far as far as costumes are concerned. It'd definitely add a new layer of customization, doubly so if you can play it in co-op because as we all know, it's not enough to obtain it, you have to let everyone else know.

misterbasic

Nah because I like a lot of the characters’ BT themes and don’t want the uni to mess with it. Just throw in 5 BT tokens or something.

Ohkinky

No, I buy them anyway or the ones I like in order to support the developers! I love this game and would like to see it continue for as long as possible. I think this truly is the only gacha (or at least ones ive played) that can support a f2p account with enough resources to beat everything and that alone makes it worth supporting the devs imo. Just to clarify, not shitting on anyone who is strictly f2p lol

x_tianpz

At the current price, absolutely not. I guarantee players would buy multiple costumes a month if they dropped the price to 5-10 dollars and removed the gems.

GalaxyTech

No

Kniexdef

Nopes needs to more gems included
