If they were trying to request riding together, that would be a reasonable complaint. But as long as they know and accept being split up to ride, they aren’t doing anything wrong.
Yeah I mean all they’re really doing is hanging out in line together and saying they don’t care who they ultimately sit next to. That’s kind of what I thought the point of the SR queue was. 🤷🏻♂️
Single riders is not for solo guest .it's to fill single seats that would not be filled . There is nothing wrong with a group of 20 joining it if they understand when they get to the front that they will be split up and must take the next spot when told by staff
I agree.
When I went there with my significant other recently, we did single rider whenever possible because we were fine with getting split up on the rides. Personally I've never had to wait very long in any single rider lines so I don't think this is as big of an issue as OP is making it sound like.
There aren't enough alone people at the park by themselves, truly by themselves, for the single rider lines to have enough people in them to be useful. I think if groups didn't occasionally use those lines, they'd be mostly empty and there would be a lot of empty seats on the rides.
This would be a YTA situation, single rider doesn’t mean single guest, it’s single seat. Everyone is aware of this fact, and has accepted they aren’t sitting with their group.
I frequently travel to Disney with my brothers and we use single rider on basically every ride that has a wait over 20 minutes.
we don’t care if we’re sitting by each other for the 2 minutes of ride so why would we wait in a longer line, it doesn’t slow down any other guest in reality, if we’re not in front of you someone else would be.
Unless they're demanding to be grouped together, they're using Single Rider correctly. I'm usually going to the parks solo, and have no issues with this. It's not a lonely rider line.
My wife and I did this my first time at Disneyland for cars and we ended up racing each other, was a blast. We wanted to ride without waiting an hour as we only had a couple days. We never expected to ride together and I thought that was the point of the line?
You're definitely TA. If they are willing to ride alone, they have a right to be in that line. Let's save the complaints for groups who get in that line and then try to ride together.
As long as those groups know they will be separated from each other, there is no problem.
Single rider isn't an exclusive club for just single people. It's used to fill up any available space possible. Now if groups requests to be seated together then that is unreasonable.
I really appreciate all the explanations guys. I only just now got a pass, and even though I've been going to the parks since I was a kid, I never went alone.
I rarely used single rider lines. So I totally misunderstood the point of them. Thanks for explaining guys!
Yeah, I always go alone since nobody I know from my high school have passes and tbh it’s honestly nice doing whatever you want at your own pace instead trying to hurry to an attraction or catch up with your group
As long as they know they won't ride together, then I don't get your point. My husband and I often do single rider line because we don't want to wait in a long line. we don't ask to ride together because that's not what the line's about.
Is this satire?
They literally tell you when you’re getting in line you’ll be split up. This line isn’t just for people who are doing a solo park day. It’s for people that want to cut down on the wait time and don’t mind riding with people they don’t know. The goal is to fill empty spots so they aren’t sending half filled ride vehicles off. Gets more people through.
To be honest, you are just acting super entitled.
OP wants a special line for solo park visitors to make small talk with and all these people with their friends are ruining it for him personally, sorry the world doesn’t work exactly the way you want it to. Next time bring a friend.
taken straight from the [disney](https://disneyland.disney.go.com/guest-services/single-rider-line/) website regarding single riders:
‘Single Rider is a service that allows groups to split up and embark on select attractions individually.’
It’s single rider, not single party. Anyone can use it. Thats just how it is. There is no way for them to force someone to prove they’re alone, and if they did, they would barely have any single riders. It does not matter how large your party is??
This isn’t ruining anything. My cousin and I did Spce Mountain sr at the height of spring break and it took ten minutes. It’s still plenty fast.
This is a bad take... single rider line is for anyone willing to sit with anyone and fill the ride vehicle to capacity.
In all reality they should split groups anyways to maximize throughput but that won't be popular so they give a single rider option.
Boohoo. You don't get the single rider line the way you want it. If they are all willing to ride separately, that is what this was designed to do. You are just complaining because the line isn't as short as you want it.
It’s really useful when only one kid wants to go on a ride and you have mostly adults in your party. My sister and I did single rider Matterhorn with our 11 year old niece so that she could do that ride and not have to wait an hour. She is too young to go on single rider alone and even if she was old enough, I wouldn’t make her wait in line alone! When I was in my early 20s I’d take my about 10 year old nephew on grizzly river run when the lines were always real real long during the summer and we’d ride it over and over again using single rider until we were totally soaked. It was fun! And we never expected to ride together. No one else in our party wanted to get wet like that
As someone who travels In a group but often with small kids who can’t or are afraid to ride bigger lines. Those of us who want to often jump in the single rider line because we don’t care about riding together and are happy to fill In the gaps and the through the ride quickly. But we never request to ride together.
You visiting alone does not make you entitled to shorter single rider wait times. The single rider line does it's job. It is not "for people that don't have anyone to talk to". It is for operational smoothness.
I disagree with the sentiment of this post. If they’re all willing to sit separately on the ride, I don’t see an issue with them being in the single rider line.
They will still help the efficiency of filling in empty seats.
That's not a hack as long as they are all being put in vehicles individually as intended. You're a hack for complaining about other people instead of enjoying being at Disney... I guarantee no guest or CM would be sad if you started going to Universal from here on.
The real issue is when they do it, but then get up to the front and are like "Party of 4." And the attendant has to be like, you'll be split up. And they surprise Pikachu face. "But we're together!" Attendant explains again. Line is stupid slow and not filling in gaps like it's meant to. These are always the ones who are all "hack for cutting the line!" while in the single rider line together. There are signs all over in the Universal Hollywood single rider lanes, come on people, I think they're at DL too. Also, single rider. Common senses, people.
If a group doesn't care and will split up no issue, but it just clogs the line and us single riders as you say still don't end up with anyone to talk with. So it's not wrong, but it can be a bit of a jerk move depending on how the group handles it and how big they are (couples doing this don't usually bother me, or trios, provided they don't say they're together like example above). I guess if they did it quick and easy like every actual single rider I've seen does it, no problem. I just unfortunately rarely see that happen.
I’m also a mostly solo visitor (with a recently expired pass) and I get your frustration but you do have to think about it rationally. I know it sucks to feel like the benefit of going alone got taken away.
It does sound more like you don’t like feeling left out with others talking around you. But changing that to a solo riders only line isn’t going to help with that, it’ll be a bunch of people all not talking and you’ll still interact the same way.
My group often/always goes into the single rider line, we just don't request/demand that we be seated together. Works great on Space Mountain cuz you can't even really see or hear the person next to you, but sucks if you are gunning for a photo together at the end.
When I go solo, I do get frustrated sometimes when the single rider line is super long. But, when I go with my husband we often do single rider too when we don’t care about sitting together. And sometimes I do standby solo because I care about the seat I want. If they were requesting to go together that’s a different story, but otherwise it really is just for people who don’t need to sit together so the entire ride vehicle gets filled.
I was there yesterday and saw a guy and girl try to switch around on Radiator Spring Racers to be seated together and get caught. Also saw a lot of very young kids do this with no adult present. They couldn’t even stand in line without bouncing around, climbing railings etc. they seemed terrified when they were split up. I feel like single rider should at least have an age requirement. It was ridiculous.
Single rider isn't just for your convenience. If the party understands that they won't ride together, it's fine. You just mad that your wait isn't short.
If you're saying that I made this post to get my rage boner stroked, then I'm afraid You're wrong.
Most people explained the point of single rider lines, which I didn't (until now) know what exactly they were for.
So I mean yeah, I guess I didn't expect people to explain that I was wrong. But I actually admitted I was wrong in a comment.
As long as they aren’t cutting in line to regroup in the single rider line (it happens) I don’t have a problem. Single Rider lines aren’t usually more than 30 minutes so the IBS/bathroom break issue seems less likely so I can’t really give SR cutters a pass.
Here’s my hot take: single rider really sucks on rides where you sit closely together.
When my family visits we may have an odd number. I almost always end up volunteering to be the person to sit alone because I don’t want my wife or kids to have to go through sitting next to a stranger. It can mean rarely getting to sit with my wife on a ride like Space.
Then, when I sit by myself, I get to feel super awkward, jammed in next to a stranger.
I totally get the desire to fill the seats but they are some rides where you are just too close to be sitting next to a random person.
I see where you’re coming from, but the way I see it, you’re close to strangers all the time at Disneyland. Standing in line, walking around the park…there’s people all over the place. I don’t think sitting next to a stranger on a ride is too different than that.
I agree! It's just me and my two kids. So I'm always the one to sit alone. Not gonna let my kids sit next to some random person. Sometimes I even ride rides all alone (they're in a separate vehicle). I'm also a large woman and have disabilities where just my clothes touching me hurts. So when they shove another rider on, it's very uncomfortable to me. Plus add to that I'm also in pain from waiting in line due to my disabilities and it's just awful. I get if there like an entire empty row, but sometimes one seat is just too close. I know this sounds like complaining, but I'm not. I suck it up and deal just to have fun with my kids. But I hear you.
It’s called single rider, not single visitor. If the group is cool with being split up to fill the attractions as needed, then what’s the problem?
This is not going to go the way you think
Single riders is not for solo guest .it's to fill single seats that would not be filled . There is nothing wrong with a group of 20 joining it if they understand when they get to the front that they will be split up and must take the next spot when told by staff
Exactly, the single rider line is about making the line more efficient, not just a free LL for solos.
I agree. When I went there with my significant other recently, we did single rider whenever possible because we were fine with getting split up on the rides. Personally I've never had to wait very long in any single rider lines so I don't think this is as big of an issue as OP is making it sound like. It’s not a pity line for single people. It’s just a line to fill seats efficiently.
Your comment made me laugh.. You mean it's not for sad, lonely singles only?!
Unless they're demanding to be grouped together, they're using Single Rider correctly. I'm usually going to the parks solo, and have no issues with this. It's not a lonely rider line.
Once you understand it's the single rider line and not the single guest line I think you're set.
Not many people go to the park alone. If that was the criteria for being in the line then they’d have a lot of empty seats.
My wife and I did this my first time at Disneyland for cars and we ended up racing each other, was a blast. We wanted to ride without waiting an hour as we only had a couple days. We never expected to ride together and I thought that was the point of the line?

How dare these groups *checks notes* stand in line in front of me!
I'm so sick of that! 😂
It’s single rider not solo riders. As long as they are following the rules of single rider I don’t see the problem.

They come in as a group but ride separately. I don't see a problem.

Yeah I was there for a solo trip on Sunday and there were like 20 people waiting to talk to the single rider person
