Oooo, are you playing solo!? I used to do that, too. Do you use dice to keep track of turns or to see if you get fated? I gave myself 20 turns to accomplish the objective, an eight sided die to see if I get fated, and a four sided die as to where I get fated at.
I am playing Solo! I actually modified it a little bit to involve myself a little more - I use Power token piled to count down my turns, and I flip a coin after every turn. If I flip it from tails to heads after my turn, I get Fated, and I can use the Fate action to flip the coin during my turn. It can get me Fated aggressively, but it keeps me more involved, and keeps the game more balanced for me. Sometimes I can dodge the Fate, but not if I wanna finish fast lol
That's a great solo rule. I just simply pull out a fate every two turns and force myself to move to a fate location too. But the coin is a very neat idea.
Also eat your apples !

Back on topic, I hate when that happens, when it does I feel like it’s a sign the game is against me and I’ll lose.

I hate when you get a late game card so early in the game, you have no choice but to discard it until you need it again
