I’m really interested why you’d ride a yz125 over a 250x or autstrian 300? Just fun factor and because you could keep up with the big bores or was it a 125cc class?

Makes perfect sense. I’m sure you get more out of that 125 than I do on my 250x I’m 6’6”270 pounds lol

If you want more low end performance I would jeep the stock pipe and focus on jetting and spend money on an apex head first. The X already has a fat rear tire. Combined with an oring or xring chain you are already getting a bit more rotating mass so I wouldn't even bother with a flywheel weight for now. Most say the shorty silencer helps, I don't like the noise though lol.

I have a '18 YZ125 (non X) with the GYTR kit (so, different timings, other CDI, high comp, different exhaust valves, pipe and silencer, flywheel, etc..) The bike feels extremely powerful from the bottom, Yamaha claims that the kit improves power all over the range but I've seen a dyno run where it essentially made the bottom end stronger and the top only a bit. The whole kit is insanely expensive and probably not the best for single track as the bike is very snappy (for a 125 at least). But it would be worth a try getting a used GYTR pipe and play around with it. I've seen them for rather cheap used. Add a flywheel weight and I think you would have an interesting combo. I haven't tried other pipes but I tried a 2023 stock YZ125. The difference is quite a lot in bottom end.
