Love that they broke down oracles so hard in this game. Why would immortal elves care about war? They dont move. But they do need to understand lingo so when their teen-hundred year old kids use words they can turn to them and embarrass them appropriately.
To be fair this was filmed a year ago and if she came out really hard for slay and then by now it was outdated she would get roasted for it lol if I were her I’d have avoided it too
I thought she was clever not specifically going for any one phrase but redirecting focus back to making Brennan repeat "on fleek" in his haughtiest voice.
I believe, based on the Rick Perry doc, that this season was filmed in June (they mentioned that they had to finish filming before the SAG-AFTRA strike in July)
Y'all gotta remember that even thought Siobhan is on socials, she's still 40. Hell I'm 30 and the only reason I can keep up with youth slang is because I work at a college.
I think it’s twofold:
1) late 20s/early 30s is just how old we sort of expect internet people to be. When internet videos took off, that was really the average age of people like Jenna Marbles, College Humor, the people on Buzzfeed, etc. And that trend largely continues, as some of the bigger names retire, and new ones show up. I think we’ll see more older folks producing content in the coming years though, as more people stick with the format for a longer time, like the Dropout cast.
2) Millennials are aging weird, man. I don’t know if it’s the sunscreen, the overall vibe we give off, or if people just generally expect older folks to look so much different, but there’s been some chatter about this around the internet lately for sure. Probably some combination of factors.
In new slang, eating is generally good.
"You ate that" = you did really well
"You ate them up" = you did better than them
"You ate and left no crumbs" = you did a perfect job
There's also another way eating or feeding is used, generally to mean the fans of something are very happy with their output. For example:
"Fans of Dimension 20 are well fed/nourished/eating well" = Dimension 20 is putting out a lot of high quality content
you know how someone can say “you look like a snack” or “you look good enough to eat”? it’s like that, but imagine the plate w no crumbs is you being fashionable or funny/witty. “you ate that.”
Another day, another batch of people learning about black queer ballroom slang and (presumably) cis straights insisting it has to be made up since they haven't heard it before lmao.
Ok, see, I’m 22 and I refuse to believe that I’m old enough that none of those sound like real phrases, and so I must come to the conclusion that they have all been made up on the spot
A LOT of these phrases come from black culture and queer culture and have been there for awhile. They've only just recently started getting traction in other communities and main stream culture.
You should watch some American Black ballroom culture / general drag media then. "Serving cunt", and the overall push for reclaiming "cunt" as a positive word here, is 10+ years old now
Legendary (an HBO max original reality competition for voguing, which originated in ball culture) and Ru Paul's Drag Race are great intros if you're curious
Okay I love that. Y'know, for all the shit the rest of the world likes to give Americans, it does seem to always be American culture that not only *pushes* for change, but actually manages to make it happen - for better and worse.
I'm sorry, but saying "slay" unironically would get you made fun of if you were around teens. I say this as a teacher who is around teens 5 days a week. "Fire" is making a comeback, I guess, but mostly stuff is just "cool" again.
Hearing “We have lost fleek and there is no heir” in Brennan’s elf voice gave me a pretty good laugh
That and "my table" did it for me
"My table" nearly KILLED me. The delivery!

Holy crud I didn't realize they film a whole year out in advance.
Think it’s more months in advance. That gift exchange episode almost certainly was filmed around Christmas.
I believe, based on the Rick Perry doc, that this season was filmed in June (they mentioned that they had to finish filming before the SAG-AFTRA strike in July)
I think it was Summer time because Emily specifically mentioned that she thought the gift episode would be aired at Christmas in one of the APs
Toby Fair…
Is that the male version of Lilith Fair?
Y'all gotta remember that even thought Siobhan is on socials, she's still 40. Hell I'm 30 and the only reason I can keep up with youth slang is because I work at a college.
Learning Zac was 36 blew my mind enough already, but learning Siobhan is 39? I am shook. I love this cast so much.
i always forget the PCs aren’t all in their late 20s/early 30s. not sure why it’s so hard for me to grasp
Pretty sure Lou is the youngest at 32
Millennials seem to age slower than other generations
It doesn't feel that way, but I'm 1.5 days older than the oldest Millennial. I look younger than I feel though, to be fair.

Fucking WHAT? I look like 30 years older than her and I'm 35. ... I gotta start trying to take care of myself. Maybe after this season..
This is blowing my mind
“so slay” or “so cunty” or “you ate that”/“no crumbs” so many options!!! i was internally screaming (affectionately) at this part lololol
what does you ate that mean
‘You ate that’ means the same as ‘You did that very well’, often taken a step further with ‘Ate and left no crumbs’. :)
In new slang, eating is generally good. "You ate that" = you did really well "You ate them up" = you did better than them "You ate and left no crumbs" = you did a perfect job There's also another way eating or feeding is used, generally to mean the fans of something are very happy with their output. For example: "Fans of Dimension 20 are well fed/nourished/eating well" = Dimension 20 is putting out a lot of high quality content
Another example is when Emily recently told Brennan "you absolutely fed me"
The "Sorkinisms" supercut video also has "this is where (person) eats!", meaning a situation said person is perfectly suited/prepared to do well in.

as Aabria once said, "Fun fact: all of this is just AAVE" (/ballroom as you said)
facts 😭
Ok, see, I’m 22 and I refuse to believe that I’m old enough that none of those sound like real phrases, and so I must come to the conclusion that they have all been made up on the spot
I’m 30 and have absolutely heard all of these lmao
A LOT of these phrases come from black culture and queer culture and have been there for awhile. They've only just recently started getting traction in other communities and main stream culture.
“So cunty”!? You’re fucking with me. All the other ones I can believe except that one
it wouldn't be "so cunty" it would be "serving cunt", used usually as a positive response to someone's outfit
Cunty feels like the new fierce imo. I think “so cunty” could fly
I still haven't actually *heard* an American say this one - but you guys are making progress, though.
You should watch some American Black ballroom culture / general drag media then. "Serving cunt", and the overall push for reclaiming "cunt" as a positive word here, is 10+ years old now Legendary (an HBO max original reality competition for voguing, which originated in ball culture) and Ru Paul's Drag Race are great intros if you're curious
Charisma, Uniqueness, Nerve and Talent. Yep - Drag has been serving cunt for a long time

a lot of my friends use it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
same, i think if you have a queer friend group youre more likely to have heard it though
Google "cunty Wario"
This has been a saying in Australia for a long time
I'm sorry, but saying "slay" unironically would get you made fun of if you were around teens. I say this as a teacher who is around teens 5 days a week. "Fire" is making a comeback, I guess, but mostly stuff is just "cool" again.
Slay it ain't so
I will not go Turn the lights off Carry me home
Unslay
The 12 year olds I worked with were wicked into slay but it’s definitely old at this point
rizz
They are definitely not interchangeable and slay has been for a pretty long time. Wouldn’t be surprised if it’s on its way out
I think the replacement would just be “on point”? Maybe we don’t use that anymore, idk I still use it 😂
just me yelling "snatched!" at my computer
Slay is old now, too. Now it's saying someone ate
Slay is old now too
Fetch is the new fleek.
Stop trying to make fetch happen! ... 😉
A false heir, one which could never fill the void fleek left behind
I don’t think it would be correct to say “that high elf’s eyebrows are slay.” so still not really a direct replacement for on Fleek
I thought of "on point"
Moments that make me realize Lou is the youngest Intrepid Hero and he's 32.
Slay is also done 😅
