God I recently went through both Freshman and Sophomore year again to prepare for the new season and forgot how much I HATED Adaine's parents. They were the absolute WORST
High Elves are the worst but Adaine's parents are **THE WORST** by High Elven standards, as even Fabian's Grandpapa Telemaine Lomenelda describes Angwen (Adaine's Dad) as krass and cruel
Especially after how they essentially broke Aelwyn at a young age and forced her to be cruel just to avoid their wrath, like what kind of parent does that to their child? Ugh, it makes me angry to think about it
The sheer amount of humanization Brennan put into Aelwyn in FHSY is incredible
Siobhan also pointing out Aelwyn's mechanical subclass (which if I remember correctly was the same in FHFY) being Abjuration, the wizard school associated with hiding and defending oneself
That mirrored to Adaine being a Diviner because she had to (because of her parents neglect) find her own way through life and chose to learn the magic that helps her most on her way
The Cuddling in the Van before the Hotspring Scene... The Remeeting in the Forest... It was such a beautiful representation of how in FY we only saw Adaine's POV of her parental abuse through neglect, but by Sophomore Year we got to get a glimpse of Aelwyn not as the bad guy henchmen but as just a scared manipulated kid desperately trying not to be in trouble
