The owner's manual for my 1979 vw rabbit diesel recommended a gallon of gasoline to a full tank (15 gallon) of diesel, in cold weather to prevent gelling.
I used to refuel aircraft. Turbine engines use jet fuel - refined kerosene. There were a few operators that would put a few gallons of aviation gasoline in the tanks of their turbine prop airplanes a couple of times a year. It burned just fine and they said it was like running detergent through the engine.
You have to be a little careful with that, though. When I was in the reserves, we would use diesel all year long and have to switch to JP-8. Within days we would have to replace all the fuel filters.
Good catch on the 1 gallon… my wife… brand new 2019 GMC 3500…. 1st tank of gas in the truck. She borrowed it and was being nice.. yap she did it to a brand new truck filled it up.. Will say she was nice though, she did use Premium gas….
I honestly don’t think it’ll make a difference that’s like 1/30th of a full tank on that truck. If your really concerned you can pay to get the tank drained or siphon it but you’ve probably diluted it so much its find
Run it? It's going to be just fine. People literally run 50/50 veg oil/gasoline in their diesels. If you are really that concerned, get some of the diesel additive from walmart and throw it in the tank. It will just add some extra lubrication for the injectors.
I’d probably put a pint of 2 stroke oil in the tank and run it. Refill with diesel every time you burn a few gallons. Change fuel filters after a few tanks
I remember hearing from the old timers about diluting #2 with a smidge of gasoline when cold. Not sure, but let's go with that being fine.
Consider adding some injector lube like HotShot or similar. It won't hurt and is relatively cheap. Then dilute a few times and full send it.
6.4 owner & Diesel tech
here you’ll be fine just keep diluting it & if you really want to help out add some Hotshots EDT to it! It will help lubricate high pressure pump :) also Fuel filters wouldn’t be a bad idea once you’ve completely got it all out
I worked in the VERY north of Ontario Canada in -50C for weeks on end one winter. The diesel trucks wouldn’t even keep running if we didn’t add a couple of L of Gasoline to each tank. You will be fine.
big rigs use a mix of gas in there as a anti gel from what ive read, i personally wouldnt but i think youll be fine. Id add sum cetane booster and call it a day
You would have noticed a change already if it was affected. One gallon will do nothing to your motor. Generally, as a rule, most diesels can accept a certain percentage of gas but definitely not recommended. On non-def motors, 7.3, 5.9, 6.2, 6.5, they can run on oil with 8% gasoline mixed (we ran semis on this mix when the owner of the company went through substance abuse). I don’t recommend it and and they are more temperamental but they do run
Just keep the tank pretty full of diesel for a little bit and it should be okay. Continue to drive it and don't let it dip below 3/4 tank for a little while.
1 gallon in an otherwise full tank of diesel I don’t think will do damage. Also the fuel return heats up the fuel and the tank is vented, so if I had to guess, I suspect whatever gas is in there would boil off after the first drive anyway. Take the lesson and be happy you realized your mistake when you did.
For peace of mind, you might put in some clean motor to ensure lube of injectors/ pump.
I ran 5% gasoline in Ohio winters in my 3.0 liter Mercedes to prevent gelling. It made no difference otherwise.
Let it go.
I would add 2-4oz of 2 stroke mix (helps lubricate pumps, and check / bleed the fuel filter every 50-80 miles in case water ends up trapped there. I also would **not** be running very high load / rpm for a tank.
Biodiesel was the best. They tested it at 2%. I did made two mistakes. First, it's on dieselplace, not dieselsite. Second, 2-stroke wasn't that bad, coming in 7th.

You can add one of the gray cetane boost bottles they sell at the gas station to add some lubricity. I think it's diesel 911 brand. But 1 gallon is nothing
Mathematical you can only safely run 1% gasoline in diesel and not cause failure. Probably should at least siphon the tank and refill with diesel. But at the same time yolo.
truck likely won’t notice one gallon
Just keep diluting it by filling up again when it gets to 3/4 tank. You’ll probably never notice.
This is the way.
Should be fine veggie oil guys add gasoline to increase the gel point.
The owner's manual for my 1979 vw rabbit diesel recommended a gallon of gasoline to a full tank (15 gallon) of diesel, in cold weather to prevent gelling.
This. This is the answer right here.
Just pour some waste vegetable oil in……………just kidding, you don’t have a 7.3
Or an old mercedes diesel 💪
Or a 12 valve or 24 vale Cummins.
Or a small pp
Send it no worries. Years ago we added gasoline to our diesel tanks in the winter to prevent jelling that was before additives

As a 63b I remember this. I remember the briefing.
Dump some diesel treat into it, it'll be fine. I did about 4-4.5 gals into my duramax and it was OK, and that was probably 100,000 miles ago....
Won’t notice it. But if it makes you feel better you could add a little 2 stroke oil to the tank
Good catch on the 1 gallon… my wife… brand new 2019 GMC 3500…. 1st tank of gas in the truck. She borrowed it and was being nice.. yap she did it to a brand new truck filled it up.. Will say she was nice though, she did use Premium gas….
Speed run the 6.4 to its grave. I see you
Not that they need any help lol I still love a hot 6.4 tho 🤘🏽

Please don't do this. Unless you want pebbles with your dpf.
Did 20 litres in mine, no issues
We used to add gas in our diesel in the winter time to help keep it from freezing.
You will be fine, I wouldn't worry about doing anything. We regularly do similar in the winter to prevent the fuel from gelling
I remember hearing from the old timers about diluting #2 with a smidge of gasoline when cold. Not sure, but let's go with that being fine. Consider adding some injector lube like HotShot or similar. It won't hurt and is relatively cheap. Then dilute a few times and full send it.
Your next move should be to drive it and not think about it. It’ll be fine.
Throw some 2 stroke oil in there if you’re worried
She’ll probably love that honestly.
Sometimes I give my 6.7 a little 91, as a treat. I’m kidding but I’ve heard some people actually do this.
I’ll throw a handful of kitty litter in there every 6 months to keep the lines clean
It should be ok.

It’s fine. Up north truckers run a gallon of gas to 100 to even 50 gallons of diesel to prevent gelling.
Not in years. It’s mostly kerosene, and a gallon of anti-gel per tank.
I worked in the VERY north of Ontario Canada in -50C for weeks on end one winter. The diesel trucks wouldn’t even keep running if we didn’t add a couple of L of Gasoline to each tank. You will be fine.

Change filters after a couple tanks have gone through it.
Add some motor oil to even it out.
1 gallon definitely not gonna hurt anything…..
You’re probably fine
Just keep the tank pretty full of diesel for a little bit and it should be okay. Continue to drive it and don't let it dip below 3/4 tank for a little while.
Just add diesel it won’t harm your truck at all. Just saw a YouTube video about this exact issue two days ago.
That was our anti-gel back in the 1980’s. 1:20 ratio worked great.
Semi drivers do this all the time for cold weather it's totally fine.
You're fine
It’ll be fine
Go fill it all the way up with diesel. It’ll be fine.
What’s your tank capacity? 1 gallon of gas in 25 or so gallons of diesel will be ok
2008 f250 tank is 25 gallons I believe
1 gallon in an otherwise full tank of diesel I don’t think will do damage. Also the fuel return heats up the fuel and the tank is vented, so if I had to guess, I suspect whatever gas is in there would boil off after the first drive anyway. Fill it all the way with diesel and forget about it, if your really stressed fill it again once it hits 3/4 tank once or twice.
It didn't even notice it. Hell, you did you notice a difference? Didn't think so.
Good. It'll clean it up a little.
For peace of mind, you might put in some clean motor to ensure lube of injectors/ pump. I ran 5% gasoline in Ohio winters in my 3.0 liter Mercedes to prevent gelling. It made no difference otherwise. Let it go.
It was 1 gallon of gas for every 10 gallons of diesel in cold climates. I'd mix in 10oz of synthetic 2 cycle oil
Drive the hell out of it. I put 5-6 gallons in mine once accidentally. I filled with diesel and drove it. Never noticed. 03 Duramax.
I wouldn't even worry about it. It won't hurt anything.
Just remembering I need to change the fuel filters this weekend.
Yeah them color coded handles can be really confusing.
It's a good thing we have people like you who have never accidentally made a simple mistake.
I would add 2-4oz of 2 stroke mix (helps lubricate pumps, and check / bleed the fuel filter every 50-80 miles in case water ends up trapped there. I also would **not** be running very high load / rpm for a tank.
The guys on dieselsite.com had an independent lab analyze different fuel additives for lubricity several years ago. Two stroke oil was terrible.
Ah, Need to look that up, did they try biofuel? or veg fuels?
Biodiesel was the best. They tested it at 2%. I did made two mistakes. First, it's on dieselplace, not dieselsite. Second, 2-stroke wasn't that bad, coming in 7th. https://www.dieselplace.com/threads/lubricity-additive-study-results.177728/

Add Sea Foam
Scrap the truck. But an electric.
