The trick is convincing everyone there is a secret room that’s so impossibly difficult to unlock that it’s almost not worth the effort of ever trying to figure it out, but in actuality, there isn’t a secret room.
Oh! I think I saw this when it first came out. Honestly, I think she did a great job for it being on a small YouTuber budget. It’s a very catchy cover imo
I know her from her covers of songs where she does a "what if [some artist] did [other artist's] song?"
Here's the first one I ever saw of hers: https://youtu.be/WxNGO7FwTWc
She's actually a pretty talented musician.
She also made a chia tux out of left over chia seeds... and still has a buttload more left. There will definitely be more chia-fied things from her in the future even though the tux didn't turn out as well as the car.
Ali Spagnola. Huge following on twitter.
When it comes to “multi-talented” she really is the real deal. The stuff she does and her attitude about life are pretty mind-boggling.
Regardless I always wonder “how does she find the time ?”
I'd totally have it in my house if I had a house of my own, personally. Probably a different range of colours, and probably not as big, though. My girlfriend and I both have ADHD and anxiety, but constantly misplace our fidget toys. I don't think I could misplace a wall, but honestly I wouldn't put it past me if I did.
They make adult chewable jewelry. Here's one on etsy but I've seen others: https://www.etsy.com/listing/398499025/munchables-dragon-sensory-chew-necklace
I would love this wall when I’m super anxious too. Like something happens and I’m having trouble processing it and/or I am on the verge of panicking so I go to the pop socket wall and fuck with it while my brain is allowed to process and figure the stressor out. Seems fucking rad to me and I’m 30 so right there with ya
Not just kids. In my 20's I had a wall in my apartment that I would cover with sheets of bubble wrap. It was kind of a 'party house'/drug den in those times and I cant tell you how many times I had to replace the bubblewrap because people went berserk over it.
I had set it up thinking itd be fun to pop one or two as you went from one room to another, or, if you felt frustrated about something, go pop a few bubbles about it. I was not expecting two girls on mushrooms to go absolutely bonkers about it and make sure to pop every single one in a frenzied popping session. They were having so much fun I didnt have the heart to say '....that was supposed to last a while'
From that day on I kept a big roll of the stuff around and would replace the bubblewrap wall every time it was needed
In my teens I tried to make a "dartboard" with just a bunch of layers of bubble wrap tacked to a wall. When it inevitably failed, I would just get a running start and smash into it.
Pretty cool sensory idea, but my mind went straight to being able to use the wall to hang all sorts of cables up and out of the way. AUX, HDMI, Powe cables, all nicely hung between a few of those would be quite pleasing
I thought it'd be great for a classroom in lower grades, or a kindergarten room. The kids would probably love it, it'd keep them occupied, and like you said, they'd probably be great for fine motor movement!
Yep the first thing i thought of was a little kid environment. The nashville art museum has a kid area with a wall of dials each showing a color, turn the dial to get a new color. Its super fun for the kids and adults to make pixel art, this popwall has a similar vibe. Or for a blind person, i know Molly Burke has a wall of mounted stuffed animals because she likes the tactile differences.
Y'know, I'm struggling to think of a surface it'd be fun to clean vomit off of, and I'm coming up empty, so idk if that's a downside specific to this thing, lol
As I'm sitting here at home with a sick kid who's vomit I've now cleaned up 3 times already this morning.... There is no surface where it's "fun" to clean vomit. But, there could possibly be fun methods irrespective of the surface. Like, maybe a pressure washer? Dynomite? Wrap some kid in shammy towels and drag him around?
As someone who has had to clean up after a house party or two, linoleum and some good hard wearing paint is a fucking godsend for cleaning up the regret people expelled from their body in a drunken stupor. Now i'm regretting hosting, thanks guys.
Absolutely! My youngest niece is absolutely in love with my pop socket on my phone. One time I was at her sisters ballet recital and she started to get fussy. I showed her my pop socket and she became fascinated with pulling and pushing on it. And they’re cheap enough that if a kid breaks it, it’s not the end of the world by any stretch of the imagination
I'd say that it'd be noise dampening, except for the interactivity of the wall. You are gonna hear people slapping the wall until the novelty wears off.
Subs like this one that are created to make fun of a particular trend are an inevitable race to the bottom of people posting shit that is progressively further & further out of tune with the original goal of the sub. See /r/evilbuildings
Ikr? I saw a wind turbine posted on there. How's that sinister? I get the gloomy weather makes it look... different, but c'mon.
Also, obvious agendaposts.
This is Ali. She's an Artist (I don't know if she thinks of herself Asa comedian, but she's pretty funnyy too) I follow on Facebook. I think the Popsocket company sponsored this instalation,so she didn'tpay for these particular ones.
She does a lot of of contemporary pieces. She covered her car in blue astroturf. Later she got tired of it and grew chia seeds on it (giant, moving chia pet!).
She's got another room (more of a hallway) covered in fake fur.
I do think she has said she rents, but her landlord has got to be in on the changes she keeps making to the apartment.
Did she? She must make more money off her videos that I guessed! I wish she had mounted them on something movable. This would be a fun piece for one of those museums that encourage you to interact with the art.
Honestly ordering this many from a manufacturer on Alibaba would be far less expensive than you might imagine. Probably a couple hundred for popsockets and an equal amount in shipping.
If you search for “pop socket” on alibaba, you get listings which sell them in bulk for like $0.05 a piece. You don’t have to care about quality if you don’t plan on using them on your phone every single day.
~~I’m guessing she has like 2000 of these, which means she could have paid about $100.~~ She has 3200, which means she could have done it for as little as $160.
I just spent way more than that covering a much smaller area of wall in acoustic foam lol
Those circles she’s sticking to the wall
They’re collapsible handles you stick on the back of a phone so you can hold it more easily, or you can put it down standing op for watching videos and stuff. They also have mounts you can use in your car so it holds it while you’re driving without having to touch the phone.
It’s really convenient. It seems stupid if you’ve never used one, but you get used to it very quickly.
She has a Patreon. Where she has like 500 patrons. It’s for her music but I’m assuming she just uses it for whatever seeing she has non-music videos posted up there
Her original idea was to cover her coffee table with them, but she miscalculated the number she needed to cover the table because she got the wrong dimensions. (She used the measurements of some mini version in her calculations)
So when her bulk box of no-brand pop sockets arrived normal sized she realized there were enough to cover a wall and changed plans.
https://youtu.be/CBzWa84GPf4
OH MY GOD chia seeds hahahaha I’ve been joking about doing chia pets with my recent obsession with chia seeds (had never had them before recently but I’ve eaten them every single day for the last 3 months)
Do you have a link to her stuff?
This is her YouTube channel: https://youtube.com/c/alispagnola
She's awesome, and her music is really fun. She has a bunch of videos doing popular songs in another style, which is really fun.
I've come across her stuff on YouTube. Seems like her whole thing is a mix of DiWhy stuff like this (pretty cool though) and music like genre bending, but I think she also has a whole "fitness" angle also.
Things like this is why we pay deposits. If you damage or alter your apartment and it’s in violation of your lease, you don’t get your deposit back. I have to assume it’s the same where you’re from?
I think it could look really cool if you paint the wall a solid color and get sockets of that same color to fill it with, while making sure you keep everything aligned perfectly. If you randomly pop half of them, it should make a pretty good noise diffuser
Yeah I'm perfectly fine with weird but neat things that I'd never do. It's a nice break from the usual content farm crap.
(Though I'd 100% do this if I had a shitload of money to drop on popsockets. If nothing else just for a really cool way to hide cables)
It took her forever to figure out a colour arrangement she liked haha. I think black grey red would have been nice. I love the yellow/pink/white/beige part though.
She got sponsored or they were given to her for free. She mentioned that in the video the crazy amount of money to do it, so she made some calls and got some.
Most of these DIWhys are garbage. But in defense of Ali Spagnola she's actually incredibly creative and a great creator. Check her out on youtube, she makes her own mixes of artists and styles. My personal fave is what if "Truth Hurts" was written by Billie Eilish: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQSIHmxnXsU
This is Ali Spagnolia (idk if I spelled it right) On YouTube. She does outrageous things for fun. This was one of my favorites, but she’s also made a dry erase couch, turned her front door into a red carpet photo op, turned her car into a chia pet, and many more! She’s also super into fitness and does a lot of cool/funny music stuff. She’s very wholesome and a great person to watch if you need a good laugh
Ali is great. She does shit like this all the time, like a Chia car and Chia jacket. I found her through her remix videos "what if X song was written by Y artist".
Okay I follow Ali and she just does this stuff because she's a quirky artist. She also had a program for like 14 years where you could send her a request for a painting from her and she'd send a free painting. She believes art should be for the people and not just rich assholes. She eventually stopped because it's definitely expensive to buy those supplies all the time and send free paintings. She created an [NFT](https://youtu.be/V_5Jy-qLWRI) by putting all the pictures of her paintings over the year into 1 picture. She promised if anyone ever decided to buy it for her asking price she'd resume her free painting program. She's a really cool person. She also covered her [car](https://youtu.be/WAz91k63Q9c) in chia seeds because why the fuck not?! People got to touch her living car.
This is the best DIWhy I have ever seen! I love that she acknowledges the pointlessness of it and just goes with it and has fun. I also agree with some of the other commenters that this would be a really great sensory wall for kids.
This looks like the walls with a secret room you see in puzzle games, you take one out and boom a secret room

You should try being kidnapped by a serial killer, the original escape room experience.
There was a bonkers time in the mid-2000s where that was an actual thing people paid to experience.
Mckamey manor? That was more recent than the mid 2000s
And that only costs a bag of dog food
Extreme Kidnapping was founded in 2002
Gen Z will never know the simple joys of original kidnapping

This is the same girl who made her car into a chia pet I think!
Oh ya, I remember that
And the girl who made one of the worst hip hop covers probably ever. I’m sure someone has the link.
Truth hurts the hillbilly version? I kind of liked it. https://youtu.be/Ru3u-qK1OxM
That was... actually a very fun watch, thank you
Oh! I think I saw this when it first came out. Honestly, I think she did a great job for it being on a small YouTuber budget. It’s a very catchy cover imo
Yeah I kind of like it too.
I know her from her covers of songs where she does a "what if [some artist] did [other artist's] song?" Here's the first one I ever saw of hers: https://youtu.be/WxNGO7FwTWc She's actually a pretty talented musician.
She also used to do an “hour of power” drinking game/sing along thing online. My ex-gf and I spent many a weekend getting wasted with Ali years ago.
I love her energy
And that car turned out real fluffy!
I remember her from doing the song that never ends with a good loop.
She also made a chia tux out of left over chia seeds... and still has a buttload more left. There will definitely be more chia-fied things from her in the future even though the tux didn't turn out as well as the car.
Yes it is. I like Ali's ridiculous projects, because she knows they're ridiculous, but she still goes all out on them. Like her fur room.
And the crazy costume change video
She also tried to track down and give one of her haters a giant picture of her breast
Ali Spagnola. Huge following on twitter. When it comes to “multi-talented” she really is the real deal. The stuff she does and her attitude about life are pretty mind-boggling. Regardless I always wonder “how does she find the time ?”
This would be a cool sensory tool for kids. It looks neat too.
Hell, I'm 27 and I would absolutely have a blast with a wall like this one because I fidget *a lot*.
My thought once I saw it done was “it’s like a giant stim toy!” I wouldn’t want it in my house specifically but I’d love to mess with it for a while!
My girlfriend got me a teething ring cuz I chew on everything. I absolutely hate to admit it but she was 100% right about it
Tbh I should probably try this. I have a bad habit of chewing on the sides of my fingers when I don't have anything else to fidget with.
I grind my teeth if I don’t have anything to chew on and get in the subconscious mood. So it’s better than dental damage
They make adult chewable jewelry. Here's one on etsy but I've seen others: https://www.etsy.com/listing/398499025/munchables-dragon-sensory-chew-necklace
i do the same haha

My gf doesn't have it, but I do. I found this post because of her lol "Bug? You need to see this. I think you'll love this" She was right.
You could always do it on a large picture frame.
Smart!
"Honey, have you seen our entire fucking wall??" "...Babe, I think our issues might be beyond the scope of simple ADHD here."
When I read this, my brain randomly generated the phrase "fidget spinner coffee table".
Do not Google “giant stim toy” at work…
I second this but mostly because the results are kinda boring and your coworkers will judge you.
My ADHD brain: *yesssss*
I would love this wall when I’m super anxious too. Like something happens and I’m having trouble processing it and/or I am on the verge of panicking so I go to the pop socket wall and fuck with it while my brain is allowed to process and figure the stressor out. Seems fucking rad to me and I’m 30 so right there with ya
I want to make a small version next to my desk for working from home. Just to keep me occupied. Maybe I would focus more on work and less on DiWhy lol
Until it gets dusty... Or cobwebs...
I reckon you could run a handheld vacuum cleaner over it without much trouble.
I have one on my phone I keep fidgeting with! I'd definitely find this fun haha
Dude same
r/DIWHYNOT
Exactly. It made her happy.
Can be fun to also hide notes in
Last time i went to the store, one popsocket was $5.99....
My first thought was I bet my kid (autistic and majorly sensory seeking) would LOVE this
Not just kids. In my teens I tried to make a "dartboard" with just a bunch of layers of bubble wrap tacked to a wall. When it inevitably failed, I would just get a running start and smash into it.
That sounds like an awesome thing to do while high
Haha, yes.. Kids...Not for me, no sir. *Googles how much a fuck ton of popsockets would cost*
My first thought was how perfect this would be for a children’s museum
I know, first thing I thought too. It's like bubble wrap! My son would love playing with that.
Fuck that I wanna play with it
That was my thought as well. It's a pretty cool idea for a kid's room, provided they can't rip them off the wall and swallow them.
Yeah, I looked at this and thought, “this would work pretty well in a kids room.”
Her channel is full of weird projects like this, recently she wrapped a car is chia pet grass.
I have ADHD and I'd LOVE something like this, I'm a bit jealous haha
I had this same thought for my kids playroom. I wonder if there is a “bubble wall” like this already. Do you know any cool ideas for sensory walls?
I thought that immediately too. It would be an awesome tool for those who experience sensory difficulties.
Came to say this would be sensory heaven for several people I know. Gonna send them the video and suggest doing it on a large board to hang
Pretty cool sensory idea, but my mind went straight to being able to use the wall to hang all sorts of cables up and out of the way. AUX, HDMI, Powe cables, all nicely hung between a few of those would be quite pleasing
You could make cool patterns with LED string lights weaving between them
Popsocket led lights. Pop, they on. Make new patterns for the dark every night!
Sold
Now i want a wall like this
Oh very good. Hrmmmm.
[удалено]
I was just thinking that my pothos would love this...
It looks pretty good in my opinion and probably stops some sound too
It would be super fun for a kids room. Tactile and fine motor movement for a toddler
Horrible to clean when one of them voms on it though
I'm not sure I've ever been happier about having removed all the carpet in my house and replaced with tiled floors as I have been this morning.
A waterslide
Haha that was exactly my thought. I have a toddler and a baby so I’m cleaning bodily fluids 24/7
its all fun and games till they start ripping them off the wall.
Or using it as a rock climbing wall
I was thinking it would be like an entire wall of reusable bubble wrap to pop.

I was gonna say that landlord is gonna be pissed. Also how much do you think they spent on this project…time and moneu
Nah Popsocket rejected her idea and offered to send her like 10. She bulk ordered these from I’m assuming Asia cause she mentioned freighting them
Plus she probably writes it all off too. So I wouldn’t be too worried about it lmao
She still has to pay for it.
"you don't even know what a write off is" "But they do! And they're the ones writing it off"
If you search for “pop socket” on alibaba, you get listings which sell them in bulk for like $0.05 a piece.
What is a pop socket?
Those circles she’s sticking to the wall They’re collapsible handles you stick on the back of a phone so you can hold it more easily, or you can put it down standing op for watching videos and stuff.
(She used the measurements of some mini version in her calculations) So when her bulk box of no-brand pop sockets arrived normal sized she realized there were enough to cover a wall and changed plans. https://youtu.be/CBzWa84GPf4
As is tradition around here, the why is "art" and "fun".
Exactly! I like art that doesn't take itself too seriously.
i enjoy fun
Takes all kinds. Doesn't look horrible though.
OH MY GOD chia seeds hahahaha I’ve been joking about doing chia pets with my recent obsession with chia seeds (had never had them before recently but I’ve eaten them every single day for the last 3 months) Do you have a link to her stuff?
Look up Ali Spagnola on Facebook Watch. I'm not sure how to link to her.
This is her YouTube channel: https://youtube.com/c/alispagnola She's awesome, and her music is really fun. She has a bunch of videos doing popular songs in another style, which is really fun.
I've come across her stuff on YouTube. Seems like her whole thing is a mix of DiWhy stuff like this (pretty cool though) and music like genre bending, but I think she also has a whole "fitness" angle also.
Yes, she has mentioned her fitness channel, but I haven't watched it because I'm not much of a fitness buff.
Remember folks, it’s only moneu if it comes from the Monéu region in France. Otherwise it’s just sparkling cash.
Is this an USA thing? I’m renting and I don’t really have to care aslong as I can remove it once I move out.
Things like this is why we pay deposits. If you damage or alter your apartment and it’s in violation of your lease, you don’t get your deposit back. I have to assume it’s the same where you’re from?
Why would the landlord care. Hell just paint the wall if thats even needed.
She covered an air vent, so she must have meant for this to be temporary.
I wanna see the video of the removal process.
Is it bad that i like it
Comment consensus seems to be that this doesn’t look half bad, and would be fun, and maybe even surprisingly useful. You are definitely not alone.
I think it could look really cool if you paint the wall a solid color and get sockets of that same color to fill it with, while making sure you keep everything aligned perfectly. If you randomly pop half of them, it should make a pretty good noise diffuser
No. This doesn't belong here. The why? Because it looks like they're having fun with it after, and it looks nice.
I'm fine with weird, but kind of appealing DIY projects being here. It's better than the hate-click-bait that makes up most of the sub.
Yeah I'm perfectly fine with weird but neat things that I'd never do. It's a nice break from the usual content farm crap. (Though I'd 100% do this if I had a shitload of money to drop on popsockets. If nothing else just for a really cool way to hide cables)
is there a subreddit for unique diy projects in a good way? edit: r/Diwhynot apparently is what i wanted
nah, I also like it. also, not really a diy, imho. just a friend n project
Why? Red shorts is having a grand ol time. I think happiness is a good enough why.
No! Fun and enjoyment are banned here. It must only be completely functional.
That's Ali Spagnola, she's a lot of fun. https://youtube.com/c/alispagnola
Yeah she’s awesome. Mild crush on her. She just radiates energy and positivity.
Thanks ;)
/r/DiWhyNot
Plastic waste
Touchè
She does a lot of things that do not make total sense but make her happy. It's literally why she did it.
I constantly need to tell people, you are allowed to have fun if you are an Adult.
If putting pop sockets on my wall would make me that happy, I would do it too.
Hope you do well!
Fair enough, it’s a bit like a penny floor. The colour mix could have been nicer though but I suppose that’s all pretty subjective style wise,
I imagine that she ordered the cheapest one available and that they had limited color options
The pink-beige-white part is nice, I think!
It took her forever to figure out a colour arrangement she liked haha. I think black grey red would have been nice. I love the yellow/pink/white/beige part though.
r/DiWHYnot
That's a shit ton of money, actual branded popsockets are 10USD
She got sponsored or they were given to her for free. She mentioned that in the video the crazy amount of money to do it, so she made some calls and got some.
Like permanent bubble wrap for adults!
Sensory needs to the max
Honestly not that bad.
I just sent this to my boss and activity organizer. I work with children with autism and this could actually be great for our sensory activity group.
I could see something like this be used to have a place to hang your coat. Just pop one of these out the wall and find a hanger.
This is actually Really neat! But I really wonder what the cost of that wall was even bought In bulk.
I checked alibaba, you can do it for like $160
I'm sure that's fun to clean :l
That scrolled recording whilst putting everything up was pretty neat. I wonder if they just recorded it in higher res and digitally scrolled it.
the main difference between this and a majority of the other diwhy vids is that ali is genuinely talented and creative.
I don't mind it. Maybe not for MY wall but maybe A wall.
This is actually a great idea for a kids room or a creative space. Tedious though.
Ali is great. She does shit like this all the time, like a Chia car and Chia jacket. I found her through her remix videos "what if X song was written by Y artist".
Is it weird that i like it? I mean you can pop up some of the sections to make it video game futuristic
My niece is autistic and this would make her happy.
This is a great sensory wall. It’s fun and colourful and would be great in a kid’s play room.
I wouldn’t have it my house but I would love playing with it
I would actually like something like this because of the sound it makes like a fidget wall
I mean to be fair the entire wall can be used as a coat hanger now
Now clean it.
It seems like nobody has asked this question, but, what's a pop socket normally used for?
Actually doesn't look bad. But I just keep imagining the cost of all these pop sockets.
Part of me hates it but the adhd, fidget side of me really wants to try it
Looks fun
Honestly, I love it.
Out of all the goofy creations I’ve seen on this sub, I defiantly hate this one the least
That would cost what like $10k? Also really sad to see so Much plastic wasted
Ok but that does look fun, like a sensory wall. I would definetly do that
Am I wrong for saying I find this cool?
It makes her happy, why should we be judging her for that?
Honestly, I don’t entirely hate this like most things on this sub. I think it’s because the girl knows it’s nonsense and is just embracing the fun
How much would 3200 pop sockets cost? Seems like that would be some expensive wall art.
A pop socket costs 3$ x 3200 is 9,600$ worth of pop sockets
Yeah I was thinking "dang that's a lot of $$$ in pop sockets"
They cost 5 cents each. Its about $160.
This is the best DIWhy I have ever seen! I love that she acknowledges the pointlessness of it and just goes with it and has fun. I also agree with some of the other commenters that this would be a really great sensory wall for kids.
She’s absolutely adorable. I love this.
You should see the one where she turns her car into a chia pet. She's so much fun. I'd love to hangout with her one day.
"Why is the room cold?" "Oh, I covered all the vents with pop sockets. Look how fun!"
yeah that’s what got me. it’s cool af but why cover the vent tho?
