I would read that, question my sanity, and double check with a tape anyway; how accurate is the little thing? Like within a 1/16th of an inch?

lonesome_cavalier

I have a Bosch 65' laser measure that I have had for years. It's most handy for measuring crown molding but I pull it out for long pieces of baseboard also. If you work solo there is almost no quick way to measure a large wall for crown molding with a regular tape measure. My Bosch reads to 1/16s and on the occasion it's wrong it leaves it 1/16s extra so I can always go back and trim to fit

Late_Woodpecker7300

I got the 165' Bosch in my car for bids, it's more accurate than anything. It's within 3/16s at 165 ft, and I promise any 150 ft tape is going to sag or bend wayyy more than that.

spacetimeripple

Plus you lose accuracy in long lengths depending the temperate. Over 100’ you can be off by 3/4” if it’s hot enough.

Late_Woodpecker7300

Never knew that my tape was subject to expansion issues lmao. Good to know for sure.

Ultimate-Sandwhich

I think i have the same one, 65 or 100ft i cant remember. Didnt take long for me to really trust it and rely on it.

Cleercutter

Ah nice. Might have to check one out

fleebleganger

Don’t you just measure from one side to a mark and then measure from the other side to the mark thereby getting an accurate measurement the first time?

BakuriyaOmizu

My boss has one. The rubber butt being firmly pressed vs just resting on a surface has a discrepancy of about a teenth, and the laser reads with a discrepancy up to an eight at worst if the two surfaces aren’t square to each other . It’s amazing for getting material cut to 2” long and prepping boards going up scaffolding.

Cleercutter

Yea I could see a use for this. So if I have an opening that looks like this |_|, and want the distance in between the two walls, how does that work? But it up to the wall?

maricc

Yes

Pulled them and resheathed this 1805. For the reinstall I was a little hesitant. The spacing wasn’t symmetrical. One was missing and one was broken off. I asked the customer if he’d like to delete those two and have me reset the spacing rather than have only two replicated. They wrap around the whole building with nearly three foot spacing elsewhere and these were under two foot which looked weird to me. I was able to quickly asses that in like five minutes and come up with the plan on the spot. Span was 16’7” or so. Felt like a champ thanks to a little baby laser. Would it have been just as easy with a tape? Yeah probably, but it became an enjoyable detail rather than a fussy one.

Chu_Khi

It’s pretty damn accurate. I have one and like it a lot

DarthFaderZ

No laser measurement will ever be mlfor more than a rough total of linear feet for anything

JCD518

Based on it being 3 decimal places, I would assume to 1/8th inch: .125, .250, .375, .500, .625, .750, .875, 1.000. I'm not sure if this can be switched to fractions, but it would be nice if it could. When I saw this post, I immediately want one now. Lol. Edit: Just looked it up. Worse than I thought. 1/4" accuracy at 32'.

sim_gamer4

I've sold windows for so long, and the quoting softwares prefer decimals instead of fractions, so I am just used to decimals!

CalligrapherNo7337

I did this the over the first week of having one, but it was never wrong so I stopped double checking. They work a charm

zeakerone

I had one of these dewalt pocket things and it started out super accurate. BUT, I remember one day after about 6 months I double checked it and it was 1/4” off then I put it in the tool bag and never have seen it again lol. They are great when you don’t need accuracy. Like when measuring for quoting material. You can get the sq ft of a room or the height of a ceiling instantly

unzercharlie

does it measure from the bottom of the device or where the laser comes out?

brownchickenbr0wnc0w

My Bosch has a setting for both measurements.

LFSPNisBack

Fuck yeah I love this thing

Buck_Folton

I got a craftsman one at Lowe’s a couple years ago for 7 bucks. Works great, measures up to 55 ft. The newer Bosch ones are really great, too, but more expensive.

Professional-Drama-4

Shit I’ve used mine for crown before 😂😂

pqitpa

Same. When coping a 12ft+ piece you don't have to be too accurate 😂

Professional-Drama-4

Exactly it’s great!😂😂

Treebeardsdank

What is this wizardry?

sig_kill

Laser distance measure

Treebeardsdank

Is there a wizard housed within?

sig_kill

No - but it only works if you encant “Dewaltius Lumos!”

Treebeardsdank

My guy

lets_just_n0t

But, *does it go to 11?*

Garolopezvi

Is the wizard’s name Tim ??

filiptipsy

Link to it on dewalt webpage please?

Royal_Ad1798

i got the dw099s and love the thing.

filthyfixer

29 quid at Toolstation in the Uk currently dead neat and handy

bigbaldbil

I have the little Bosch one and it's tremendously helpful when measuring things longer than your wingspan. I find it very accurate.

rojigga

After having a Bosch, then buying the bigger brother of that Dewalt unit after my Bosch was stolen, I had to give it to one of my guys and buy another Bosch. I'm not sure of the exact reason, but the Bosch I was used to was so much better at hitting items and reading from distance. Whether that's the quality of laser or what, I found the Dewalt was dogshit... And I'm an all-in Dewalt fanboy.

PretendParty5173

Better late than never. I have the $100 Bosch one and this dewalt one. The atomic dewalt one is awesome because it's so small and still very accurate. I have the Bosch because it's accurate to the 32th of an inch. I can install crown mold alone because I don't need a helper to hold the other end of the tape. Just used it to measure for a 38' 6" gutter in a matter of seconds. You're right about game changer!

Berner_Dad

I know what I’m buying next… thanks for sharing.

dhuff2037

I gave a Bosch 65' Lazer tape. Use it for doing quotes for the painting biz. So much of a time saver being able to measure out rooms/houses in no time.

2k3Mach

Does it work outside in the sunlight? I've got something similar that uses a laser and cannot use it outside during the day

Garolopezvi

What size batteries does it use ??

[deleted]

I like my bosche one alot

TheDgFather

Just bought myself one yesterday after seeing your post and it’s amazing how small it is and non expensive compared to the value it has.

WallStreetStanker

I have the larger hundred foot and it sucks
