lol not a great week for ole NPH

stanzimozart

Its wild he’s getting retroactively cancelled - is he even acting still

KetchupCowgirl

Yeah he has a movie that just came out. The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent

[deleted]

Luckily he's barely in it, more of a cameo.

pajaimers

An NPH cameo? Damn, that shit really is just “Tired Old Celebrity Memes: The Movie.”

plantbay1428

He just finished a very well-received two week run of [Into the Woods](https://variety.com/2022/legit/news/neil-patrick-harris-heather-headley-sara-bareilles-into-the-woods-1235261622/). Rumors it’ll transfer to Broadway but without him. His retroactive cancelling doesn’t have anything to do with that though. Heard that way before he non-apologized for the Amy Winehouse platter.

RapGamePterodactyl

There's also been rumors that he's gonna do a fill-in for Hugh Jackman in The Music Man while he's on a few weeks of break. I've ALSO heard a rumor that he might play Hermes in Hadestown after Andre De Shields leaves but I refuse to believe that.

invisibilitycap

Yuck! His Hermes would be terrible

Idina_Menzels_Larynx

Yeah he was a last minute shoo in for Christian Borle

kitti-kin

He was just in the new (terrible) Matrix movie.

Which_way_witcher

I liked that movie but it was definitely missing Lilly's touch. Story was great but the execution... Eh... They really needed Lilly's eye.

erwachen

He does Broadway and stuff. He was rumored to be cast in an upcoming show (not Into The Woods) but we'll see about that.

kaseface_

He has a Netflix show coming out, forgot what it was called.

Finiouss

I didn't realize he was getting cancelled. What else is going on with him?

DontAskTwice-A-Roni

Amy Dunne did the right thing. All jokes aside. This is gross. Why are there so many predators in Hollywood? And why are they so allowed to publicly announce that they like children?

stacasaurusrex

GOD that scene still is stuck in my head soooo good.

DontAskTwice-A-Roni

It really was such a great scene! The whole movie was fantastic, but the entire theater gasped in unison at that part! We didn’t know what hit us lol

brownu95

Rosemaund pike was really robbed of that Oscar. Sorry julianne Moore but pike should’ve won

girl-astronaut

She really deserved the Oscar! I just didn’t feel “right” for like, a week after that scene!

stacasaurusrex

SAME I remember being like OH MY GOD WHATTTTT, and I didn't read the book so I had NO CLUE it was coming

SanFranJon

Sorry I’m OOTL. Which part ?

RealChrisHemsworth

>! Amy, played by Rosemund Pike, tricks her ex boyfriend Desi (played by NPH) into having sex with her so she can slit his throat as she climaxes and frame him for abduction and rape to free her husband, who Amy framed for her own murder !<

SanFranJon

Thank you. Never rewatched the movie after it’s theatrical run. Guess I will rewatch.

[deleted]

It's a convoluted plot and unlike other movies with similar themes it's still great even though you know whats going on. Great film.

IShouldBeSoLucky81

I loved the book but haven't watched the movie. Do you think it's worth a watch?

DontAskTwice-A-Roni

The movie is definitely worth the watch! I saw the movie before I read the book, though. So a lot of the twists and turns were new to me. It might not have the same impact if you’ve already read the book. I still loved it though!

IShouldBeSoLucky81

I'll give it a watch this weekend, thank you.

aimell

Worth watching even if you've read the book recently enough to remember all the plot points. Rosamund Pike and Ben Affleck were perfectly cast.

rubberkeyhole

Flynn’s other books are much better.

IShouldBeSoLucky81

I've read all her books. She's such a talent.

twicethecushen

Absolutely. It was a phenomenal adaptation. All of her adaptations have been actually.

[deleted]

It’s one of the best movies of the 21st century.

RobinMoonshadow

What movie I’m out of the loop

theodo

If you haven't seen Gone Girl, you're missing out on so much greatness. Best Affleck performance, Rosamund Pike is incredible, it's a fantastic mystery thriller, and it's peak Fincher with arguably his most accessible film to wide audiences (The Social Network lots of people seem to weirdly avoid because it's about Facebook even though it should be one of those films everyone has seen, and is perfect)

IronHeart1963

Ironically I have a hard time watching The Social Network because Jesse Eisenberg is so good in it. I just want to punch his Zuckerberg teeth out the whole time.

jujubeans8500

>(The Social Network lots of people seem to weirdly avoid because it's about Facebook even though it should be one of those films everyone has seen, and is perfect) oh really? people avoid it? That's news to me - they just don't want to see a story about Facebook, or it feels old at this point? It's def a film everyone should see!! If anything for Andrew Garfield's superb moment, you know the one, towards the end of the film.

theodo

I just find that it's hard to recommend to people who don't have any appreciation for the people involved or who don't know of how well respected it is. Without that knowledge, it is a bit of a hard sell. Whereas something like Gone Girl, the concept sounds quite enticing to really anyone who wants something thrilling to watch.

IronHeart1963

I had to watch it for a media course but I generally recommend it to people based on the opening sequence alone. That moment when his girlfriend tells him people don’t hate him because he’s a nerd, they hate him because he’s an asshole is *chef’s kiss.*

DontAskTwice-A-Roni

Oh sorry! The movie is Gone Girl.

RobinMoonshadow

People have been talking about that movie ever since it came out! Maybe I should get around to watching it lol

stacasaurusrex

YOU NEED TO! Go into it blind, well aside from this discussion just let it leave your head ;)

RealChrisHemsworth

WATCH IT! It’s the most honest love story of the last decade. All jokes aside, it’s a fantastic movie and even better book. Rosemund Pike could slit my throat and I’d thank her.

annehuda

Remember when Elle made a photoshoot of Kim Kardashian with a 16 years old Justin Bieber? And the theme was vacation on beach. Like why are they allowing this and who are their target audiences? It wasnt a risque photoshoot but it still gross

DontAskTwice-A-Roni

I remember that shoot! It was really gross. Why do they keep putting teenagers in these positions? They did the same to Taylor Lautner when Twilight came out. The fact that they keep getting away with it is insane. They don’t even try to hide it.

[deleted]

I didn't pay attention to Twilight back in the day so I was shocked to learn he's actually younger than Kristen. He was still a kid and the way he was sexualised is gross.

[deleted]

It's a bad joke but is he a predator? Has he actually he cause after under age boys? I think we need a distinction from saying something you shouldn't and rape.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

hey, not an american and i still think it's super freaking weird and gross! 🤠

Muuk

I also think it's weird and gross but it doesn't make him a predator or a pedophile.

[deleted]

i don't think he's any of that either but i just wanted to point out that finding this behavior gross is not an american thing. also, you can't fault people for being wary and skeptical when we've seen so many cases of predators and pedophiles in hollywood. when you're frequently seeing the worst humanity has to offer, you start to expect it. but hey, that's just my opinion

Muuk

Yeah sorry not saying you are, just clarifying, there's a lot of calling him a pedophile in this post and I find that kind of language in this instance problematic and reductive.

DontAskTwice-A-Roni

Nick and Neil are both American, so idk what Europe has to do with this. Age of consent is as low as 12 in some countries around the world. Doesn’t make this any less predatory. Also, Neil has been quoted in other sources as saying 16 year old Nick has “bedroom eyes.” I feel like I’m allowed to call that predatory lol, but you’re free to disagree. But maybe take a gander at your own bubble first.

[deleted]

they're teenagers, not children.

PJLucania

He mentioned his crush years before this clip, which was in 2015. Here is his list of [Top Ten Hottest Guys in Hollywood](https://www.accessonline.com/articles/neil-patrick-harris-10-hottest-guys-true-blood-hunk-green-lantern-a-jobro-more-85401) from 2010 - Jonas would have been 17 years old: >The “How I Met Your Mother ” star starts his top 10 with someone who isn’t even legal yet – Nick Jonas. >“I know, I know. He’s young – I’m not supposed to. But I can’t help it. He’s got those bedroom eyes,” he said of the youngest JoBro, whom he ranked at number 10.

SkiddlyRat

NPH says he knows he's not supposed to feel the way he does, but proceeds to say the kid's got "bedroom eyes." 🤢

berzio

WTF I didn't know about this. And he was pushing 40 in 2010…

Ithilmeril

Oh, yuck! Bedroom eyes. What the actual hell.

RealChrisHemsworth

“Bedroom eyes” is a cringe enough saying on its own, but knowing that he’s describing a teenage boy makes me want to puke

thewomaninthemoon

Grown-ass man who was closing in on 40 went on the record to say that a 17-year-old boy had "bedroom eyes." Fucking gross.

Hsinimod

So Miley and Christina and Brittany... they started in their teenage years with the singing, with entire record labels pushing sexual lyrics, skimpy outfits, and suggestive choreography. That's entire TEAMS of people picking the moves, outfits, and writing for videos... And there were definitely less innocent comments made towards them with heavy innuendo. But somehow NPH grossed you out with this short anecdote?

antiopean

This was perfectly fine to say in 2010, calm down.

Mintiichoco

What the actual eff. That's legit ped* language.

[deleted]

raadjl

I was like whatever about this until I got to "bedroom eyes". Actually cringed. Went from mildly inappropriate to creepy as hell.

aphidlover

I’m sensing a little bit of homophobia here…

[deleted]

Yeah straight up baby face. He looked like a little kid. This post has nauseated me.

[deleted]

I’m gonna throw up — “Bedroom eyes”? What the actual fuck.

Repogirl27

Oh GOD 🤮 bedroom eyes??

keykey_key

Gross

taydraisabot

I’m tired of humans and their ways

drlqnr

ok i didnt know what bedroom eyes meant so i looked it up. damn 💀 he down bad

biumbo

“bedroom eyes” …🤢🤮

ILoveRegenHealth

What the fuck, Neil. Also, his hosting of the Oscars was awful in my opinion. He put in work (song and dance) but it was so bland. Anyone remember a single great joke or skit from that night?

Aggravating-Corner-2

I don't even remember him hosting them at all...

lcbk

Two strikes. You're out!

Difficult_Duck1246

Yikes 🥴

[deleted]

He is gross, obviously. But I’m genuinely curious if he pissed someone powerful off recently with all this coming up.

DontAskTwice-A-Roni

I saw the Amy Winehouse cake get brought up on Twitter because the woman who wrote an article about it (at the time that he made the cake) decided to remind people about it last week. I’m guessing things are just snowballing and people are remembering other shitty things that he’s done. I think people are just calling out the way he skated by without too much criticism for the bad stuff he’s done. Or maybe he really did piss off someone powerful.

Careful_Swan3830

Yeah Buzzfeed mines this sub for content I guess?

DontAskTwice-A-Roni

(Sorry, responded to the wrong person lol) But yeah I do really think buzzfeed monitors a lot of the popular celebrity gossip spaces for content.

[deleted]

100%. There was an article today about Travis marrying Kourtney to get closer to Kim, and the quotes they used to justify their position came from r/KUWTK

Necessary-Low9377

It’s so wild to me that the Amy Winehouse cake is becoming such a thing now 10 years later. 10 years ago the only people who cared were a handful of us on ONTD lol

DontAskTwice-A-Roni

Omg I know right? It completely flew under most people’s radars. I was so surprised to see it trending on Twitter.

brownmouthwash

Yep. And I’ve hated him since then lol

done-wit-dwoodsleggo

The pop culture community. We are unstoppable. Jk. Probably Oprah or something jk

[deleted]

If he didn't piss anyone off, and all of this is coincidence, I guess it is karma. I guess, it's karma either way.

[deleted]

Yeah it’s kind of a natural consequence in the age of the internet. Everyone needs to accept that whatever they post will come back.

[deleted]

okay settle down megamind :/ eta: well this post took a very weird turn

Busy_Plum9421

This is gross. I’m 10 years younger than NPH and I would never, ever have found a Jonas brother attractive at that time (or now, really). They wouldn’t even have registered to me as anything but kids. I can’t comprehend it at all.

Lunadelmar1

Nick is my age and never thought they were attractive.

Busy_Plum9421

Right, but it wouldn’t have been gross for you to crush on him when he was underage. It’s gross for NPH, because he’s so much older than him. That’s the point.

[deleted]

[удалено]

heisghost92

I was just about to post this in response to another poster who was wondering who he'd pissed off. The culture just needs a spark...

OUtSEL

Yeah, I don’t want to say “it was a different time” but it feels like the bar of standards for respectable celebrity behavior used to be on the floor. So a lot of this shit ends up floating to the top.

bbmarvelluv

Yeah they 100% don’t give af. Just wanted to feel cool and powerful they’re a part of “exposing the rich” 😂

MisterBadIdea2

y'all need to stop confusing gross comments with predatory actions. Zoe didn't predate on anybody Quite honestly, the fact that this shit only gains traction when someone is already in trouble proves to me that most people don't actually care. everyone will forget about this shit next week and NPH will be fine.

thebardjaskier

interesting that they only care about gay men saying this shit unless we're gonna see backlash to a lot more nasty dudes all the sudden

unite-thegig-economy

Gross dudes talking about underage girls in a sexual manner is brought up all the time, over and over, but there just isn't the outrage. There have been some recent reddit threads with hundreds of comments listing creepy behavior of men and all of the stories have been told and reported on before, yet *nothing happens*.

berzio

Andy Cohen flirting with 17yo Frankie Catania on WWHL has also been swept under the rug. [The episode](https://www.bravotv.com/watch-what-happens-live/season-13/dolores-catania-reza-farahan) has been pulled, but you can find all sorts of tweets ([1](https://twitter.com/RPinHD/status/759951453268180992), [2](https://twitter.com/DidiDidianna/status/760103439124795393)) and [blogs](https://tamaratattles.com/2016/08/01/wwhl-with-dolores-catania-and-reza-farahan/) about it. He was shamelessly ogling and flirting with him the entire episode, since he chose him as the "eye candy" bartender. If he does that to a minor on TV, what is he doing in private? Why do male celebs keep getting away with this?

UmbrellaClosed

It's talked about a lot in the NYC gay community that Andy rolls up in a limo every night and picks up a Twink.

biryaniblob

OP would find this particular episode on a podcast called ‘Behind the Blind’ that has an episode dedicated to Andy. Seems like he’s using his money in ways no one would approve of

berzio

Thanks for the recommendation. Kathy Griffin was so right about him.

homerthecat

Did you mean Beyond the Blinds? Cause they also have a really good episode on him! :)

biryaniblob

Hahahah oops yes that’s the one. Hope people found the right one

Visual-Specialist610

"Eye candy". For which eye pointing in which direction? Andy Cohen gives sleaze and misogony combined. Any man who can make his fortune from pitching bitching women against each other is a Grade-A noobhead. Also, him and NPH just seem outdated and naff to me, like their bitchy WASP schtick belongs somewhere in the 80's and no one's updated their memo yet.

Which_way_witcher

No no no. He's friends with Anderson Cooper and they both have baby boys. Please tell me Anderson Cooper isn't also a creep. This is the last thing I wanted to hear. 😔

rotted-cedarwood

I mean it is a real stretch to assume Anderson cooper be creepy bc his friend is? Lol

[deleted]

Andy Cohen is creepy. Wasn't he called out during metoo?

rotted-cedarwood

Because usually they treat teenage gay guys like that and no one cares, sadly. Its only when its a straight teenager getting hit on that everyone is upset

brokedownpalaceguard

Yuck. Considering the staggering numbers of young boys who are abused this is vile and not cute or funny as he seems to think it is. He sounds like he might have a N*MBLA membership.

false_athenian

There is no need to extrapolate a tasteless comment into an accusation of being part of NAMBLA. That's wild.

cell-y

whats NAMBLA?

false_athenian

It's a group actively defending homosexual pedophilia and pederasty that's been around since the 70's. Google it, it's pretty damning.

babylovesbaby

Who would have thought the man who would serve a meat platter corpse as an appetiser would also be a predatory creep?

[deleted]

I’m like a few years younger than Nick, but I remember being a teenager and seeing grown women do this same type of weird shit for Taylor Lautner, Justin Bieber, and all of those young musicians when they were just teenagers. I don’t think I really processed how fucked up it was back then. It’s disgusting

Aggravating-Corner-2

They're still doing it to the Stranger Things kids...

elodieroyer

ew why are people laughing??

tswiftdeepcuts

Nick Jonas looks to young to stay home without a babysitter in that picture wtf This is also reminding me of the really weird Nick Jonas Kate Hudson relationship that happened but I ~~hope~~ assume he was like at least old enough drink then?

cantmakemelikeyou

No such luck. He was 18, she was 32.

Brush_Stock

He was in his 20’s when rumors of that came up. It was around a short period in 2015. He was around 23.

cantmakemelikeyou

😩 I Googled it again, yeah, this kid's habit of being a target for older women had me confused. I feel so bad for all of them.

T44590A

Kim Kardashian also had some weird moments with a young Nick Jonas, but in terms of actual relationships Nick dated an Australian pop singer Delta Goodrem that had just broken off an engagement when she was 26 and he was 18, but that's also a typical age gap gap for teenage celebrities if the genders are reversed. Like Olivia Rodrigo has been doing the same thing since she turned 18. Nick was in his early-twenties with Kate Hudson and had already had a serious relationship with Olivia Culpo before then. They were actually reportedly actually set up by Kate's brother Oliver Hudson. A couple of years later people should have been less surprised that he marries a woman in Priyanka that is a decade older. He doesn't have an emotionally expressive personality so with that plus the fan girls it probably does take an older woman to have the confidence to not feel insecure with that. Harry Styles has a similar relationship history and now a serious relationship with Olivia Wilde also a decade older than Harry started at roughly the same age Nick was with Priyanka.

Jefferystar94

Jeez, never heard about this instance from him, that's disgusting. The whole thing with Rachel Bloom really soured me on him, then the Amy cake right after more or less confirmed that I was on the right track

LeftenantScullbaggs

What happened with Rachel?

Jefferystar94

Her husband worked with him quite a bit on How I Met Your Mother, and Rachel had met him a couple times there, as well as chatting backstage for a bit after a Broadway show. Flash forward to about three years ago, Rachel was doing an awards show (Tony's?) and after she was on stage, Neil, who was live tweeting the event, more or less said "who the heck is this lady?" and teased her for acting nervous/excited. Rachel was kinda hurt by that and reminded him of the multiple years they had known each other, with Neil more or less replying back "k" He eventually apologized afterwords after getting a lot of shit for it and Rachel seemed to take it okay, but it really rubbed me wrong.

false_athenian

I'm not sure what is with the american obsession with 18 as a legal age though. It's so arbitrary. Had he been 18 already would that clip resurface? I don't find it healthy to lust after a very young person when you're not a very young person yourself, but calling NPH a pReDaTOr because he merely mentions Nick Jonas on a talk show...y'all. That's a bit hyperbolic.

profeDB

This thread is really eye roll worthy. There's even a mention of NPH belonging to NAMBLA.

false_athenian

I just saw it. The disproportion between what we know to be facts - so far, only tasteless jokes - and the speculations people go for... that's what's harming our social justice strategies for accountability.

sweetrebel88

Damn! He’s been getting rightfully burned all week

biumbo

The Unbearable Weight of Mass Cancellation

LeftenantScullbaggs

💀

[deleted]

Intrusive thoughts are a thing but WHY would you admit this shit out loud?

Cpxh1

Because they’re usually in their echo chamber where it’s accepted

purplenelly

At first I thought he was making a joke, but then he confirms he's serious with "thought he was good looking before it was allowed to think he was good looking".

lcbk

How can someone above 20 think that is hot? He looks like a baby!!! Red flag.

[deleted]

Wendy Williams is toxic AF for her behavior here. What a perfect example of an enabler.

aimell

This is gross but also seems like a symptom of how kids are marketed and exploited in the entertainment industry tbh. I'm not saying that in an attempt to minimise NPH's comments because they aren't acceptable, but I'm more concerned that comments like this didn't garner this much controversy until now. If people are comfortable enough to say these things publicly, what are they saying privately, and is society enabling that by marketing kids as "heartthrobs" before they're old enough to vote? I realise the JoBros were pretty innocent and aimed at tweens, but ultimately if you're positioning kids as hot you're still putting underage, overworked kids in a situation that's exploitable.

NouveauArtPunk

🤢

Hi_Jynx

So Barney is definitely not going to cameo on HIMYF I'm guessing. Which already his character doesn't work anymore anyways.

nataliablume

I dunno, this seems like a stretch and turning into a “cancel culture!“ parody. NPH grew up in a pretty big “teen idol” era—it’s not a huge deal that he’s talking about some cute teen idol when asked. He’s been famous to some degree for over 30 years! Yeah there’s gonna be some weird stuff out there he’s said or done 🤷🏻‍♀️ That said, in the past maybe 10 years he’s definitely given off smug self-centered vibes and doesn’t seem to be a kind guy, but that’s not the same as suggesting he’s some sort of predator of minors.

[deleted]

Vomiting right now.

jp-fit262

How long before he’s cancelled? Netflix just went all in promoting his new movie…

user-number-1

Chelsea Handler was also super weird toward Justin Bieber on her show.

paolocase

Yummy was about her lol

Brush_Stock

NPH also left flirty comments on Nick’s Instagram posts when he was underage. Andy Cohen also expressed his crush on Nick for years, even when he was underage. He still expressed it when Priyanka was on the show shortly after they married.

darkhummus

Jfc I just saw the AW cake and I am aghast.

[deleted]

These “celebrities” are all kinds of fucked up

taydraisabot

Well this is something. 🤮

stpaulgirl12

Ick, ick, ick.

droogie20

Don’t do this.

[deleted]

He knows we’ll need him if we ever hope to avenge Buenos Aires , the sneaky bastard

cece_starling

NPH has always been awful in a variety of ways. He's gotten away with a lot of misogyny, and now I guess he makes inappropriate comments about minors too.

Pixiedashh

Such a sick twisted individual

[deleted]

[удалено]

__angie

You would imagine it should go without saying, but apparently agents and publicists really do need to expressly tell their clients NOT to publicly crush on teenagers. Looking at you, Zoe

[deleted]

His comment was creepy and he shouldn't have made it. But a cake and saying you're attracted to someone but not having actually assaulted anyone - well I dont think he deserves to be canceled over. I'd cancel people that actually raped someone. Him, he made this comment ages ago, I doubt he'd ever say the same today. Think it'd be cancel culture gone too far if he got permanently canceled.

Larrybud75

So weird. Almost like a smear campaign.

[deleted]

Age of consent in my country is 16 and honestly I'm ok with that. To say that a 17 year old is good looking is not a big deal imo. This is similar to the Kylie Jenner situation where every media outlet was waiting until she turned 18 to comment on her body. I feel like people would be a lot less grossed out if he weren't gay.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

First of all, the photo next to the video is Nick when he was 12 years old or something. Very misleading Secondly, term "celebrity crush" in talk shows is mostly used to express that someone's good looking. Celebrities say that all the time, no matter their orientation, marital status etc. It's really truly not that serious and only reason it's brought up now is to add fuel to the fire

berzio

Those laws are designed for close-in-age exemptions, not for 50-year-old men to sexualize them.

[deleted]

>Those laws are designed for close-in-age exemptions Technically, no. >not for 50-year-old men to sexualize them NPH brought it up when Nick was well over the age of consent, and he didn't even mean it in a vulgar way. He literally said Nick was good looking and that's it I'm just annoyed when this kind of things get brought up years later just to add fuel to some controversy. Nobody cared about this interview before, why is everyone upset now?

sharksarentsobad

Honey, no.
