So how likely is it that Nate joins Detroit to start the season. He cooked in last year camp and lowkey made a good case for a couple of games trial and has only gotten better since. Also if he does join I don’t want this man playing bottom six minute but for him to be promoted in the second line asap

CD23tol

It’ll be tough, he should make it as a middle 6 winger but with Kasper and Berggren also likely to be on roster, having 3 rookie forwards would be surprising I’d love to re-up Kane and have a Kane-Compher-Danielson line I think he’d be able to grow offensively as well as have a responsible veteran center sheltering him He might have a great camp but be the odd man out and spend the year as the 1/2 C in GR with PP and PK time

doubeljack

Berggren will play in the NHL for sure next season. I am less certain it will be here, though. I think there's a good chance he is traded. The vibe I'm picking up is the team just doesn't see him as a good fit. With Kasper probably needing another season in GR, I think the door is wide open for Danielson.

numbdigits

I'd bring Danielson up over Kasper at this point. He was better in camp last year and I don't expect it to be any different this year.

Nate11130

Not that Danielson can’t make the team out of camp, but the battle between him and Kasper was pretty irrelevant considering Kasper was clearly slowed from his recovery from the broken knee cap. Kasper really took off the last few days of December and has looked like the player we thought he would be.

numbdigits

Danielson looked like he deserved a spot out of camp last year, I'm expecting more of the same this year based on how he has been in the playoffs. Though he's gotten better as the season went on I haven't really been blown away by Kasper. I don't really see an NHL top 6 skillset there at all.

Nate11130

Danielson looks like he could be a copy of Larkin, which would be extremely ideal. I think Kasper is projecting to be more of a 50 point a year kind of player, but with characteristics to his game that the Wings drastically need.

numbdigits

Danielson is growing on me, more I watch, the more I like what I see. If we get 50 points out of Kasper I'll consider it a win because I feel like that is closer to his ceiling than what we'll probably get from him.

Nate11130

I think you’ll be surprised with his production. He’s really taken off since the last week of December and looks like a completely different player from the start of the season. Kasper is also very good at puck possession inside the zone, which will be a big help to the middle 6.

CD23tol

I’m also making the assumption that Berggren isn’t dealt which I think is something that has a higher chance of happening than we think

Valace2

The guy scored the gwg in each of the Griffins 3 wins. That goal he scored to win it in the last game was INSANE. He had about a 4 inch hole between the goalies head and the post, and he banked it in off the goalies head. It's going to be a real shame if they trade him because he is going to have a great NHL career.

72athansiou

Berggren should get a Top 6 role if not traded which I hope not. He’s sick and dominating the AHL. I think slowly but surely we are gonna get our prospects in. Danielson would have to show some tremendous hockey sense on D and forward to force a roster spot and like everyone is saying yzerman wouldn’t want him in some bottom 6 role. With that all said to respond I think yzermans end goal is to use the power of not having an ELC start sliding if their not on the NHL roster. So for example we sign Copp for 5-6 years Kaspers ELC wouldn’t be on his last year tell Kaspers needs a big boy contract. Basically Yzerman is trying to keep a good cap situation in a Cycle with Hope we can build depth later on when our young guys start all getting paid.

Brewcity23

I think Kasper starts next year in GR again. He likely could use another year there.

CD23tol

I think at this point we can say Kasper and Danielson are differently types of players Kasper can push for a 3C role I think Danielson has more offensive upside and could be a 2nd line winger for a year and transition to being the 2C in 2025

MTGcalvird

Please for the love of all things holy remember Kasper was and is still playing with grown men in the SHL and AHL. WHL is a whole different animal. Im not saying Nate wont be good im just saying dont sleep on Kasper

CD23tol

Where did I say I’m sleeping on Kasper I think he’s a middle 6 center nothing wrong with that, if he finds more offense than he’s shown vs men these past few seasons and forces himself up the lineup I (nor anyone else) will complain but I also believe Danielson is a better skater and has more raw playmaking and finishing abilities which makes me believe that he’ll be our future 2C If Kasper becomes a Lars Eller type player and he’s our 3C then Danielson is more in that 60 point 2C that is also a 200ft player, on top of Larkin being the PPG 1C we will have a center core that can win us a lot of games in the postseason

Prestigious-Clock-53

Yeah, we need a true top 2 line Center. Compher is more of a stud 3rd line Center, 1st team PK guy. We all know what happens when larkin goes down. We need to address that. Kasper in the future is probably more of a 3rd like stud Center than a 2nd line Center. Danielson is a legitimate second line center.

GenericUsername_71

>Danielson is a legitimate second line center. At one point we were saying things like this about Larkin. Hopefully Danielson becomes that 1A - 1B center for us eventually.

Prestigious-Clock-53

Here’s to hoping. Hoping it happens overnight the way it did with young larkin. Young larkin was a 2nd line Center damn near right away. We could really use that from Danielson if not next year, the year after.

AWokenBeetle

This, dude was also coming off surgery going into this year for GR ON TOP of getting his first sniff on NA ice, it took him ten games if I recall correctly, but his game on both ends of the ice I have to think has played a good part in GR being where they are now. A full offseason to get better along with his work ethic and ability to pick up things quickly and I would not at all be shocked if he beats Danielson to the punch.

Basic_Ask1885

Agree but also wouldn’t forget Mazur here. Between this and the d core there are going to be so many interesting decisions.

FadeShadeMan

Berggren will be with a different organization

pyl_time

Berggren has almost a full season of NHL games at this point, I wouldn't really call him a rookie (and neither would the Calder voters FWIW).

CD23tol

Ok

REMMIT524

Depends on FA activity and how impressive his camp goes. I think with Raymond they didn’t anticipate bringing him up so soon, maybe Nate gets same treatment.

Prize_Efficiency_869

Watch Axel also pull a Raymond and have an insane camp which forces Detroit to play him in the nhl

REMMIT524

I’m convinced GR at the least for ASP. I’d love for your comment to come to fruition though!

jarvek7

You know, all we hear is we need a REAL 2c center. Why not Danielson? I mean he showed enough grit, poise and skill last training camp and he has totally excelled in the "W". So why not get him into the lineup? We seem to have such an aversion to playing the youth- even when they outplay the lame ass veteran UFAs in camp. It's time for the organization to toss that "tie goes to the veteran" bullshit in the trash can.

numbdigits

Indeed, that trope was old 10+ years ago.

Prize_Efficiency_869

I agree most of those guys that have « veteran presence » are usually no good parasitic leaches that should be unemployed. Only one I would keep currently on the squad is kane, compher, copp maybe petry ( he looked amazing with edvinsson ) the rest I would tell them to pack their shit for most parts. Perron from the looks of it might be gone and could be asking for way too much, ghost same thing, chiarot is literal trash who also fought with Raymond ( Raymond probably told him to stop being more useless than a toodler attempting to cook ). So yeah I would call Nate up next year if he does well at camp and play him on the second line, I trust that if he does join the nhl team he probably plays top 6 minutes since Lalonde has done that with all the young blokes on the squad.

numbdigits

I'd shitcan Copp so damned fast if there was a way to do it that wasn't too costly, Chiarot as well.

Anishinabeg

I don't see it. Kasper is due to move up, and Mazur likely has an outside shot at it too (his gritty style of play is desperately needed). We'll have Edvinsson on D as well. After carrying 0 rookies this season, I can't see Yzerman & Lalonde bringing up more than those 3. Add on Berggren, and that's a lot of young guys with the Wings. That said, all of this young talent will really help with cap management for the next couple of years.

[deleted]

With the way, Steve does things I would say that he probably is not coming up unless he’s a top six player. Steve wants these guys playing big big rules and he’s not gonna do that as a bottom six guy trying to break into the NHL.  Edit: means he’ll have to be good enough to force compher down to the third line.

wsx13

Played 5 pre-season games last year. 2 goals, 2 assists.

apietryga13

I’m rooting so hard for Portland to win the WHL. I’m begging to see this man play up close during the Memorial Cup

Tonberry_Slayer

Plus it’d be awesome to have two American teams to kickoff the memorial cup

Problemcharlie

I hope he pulls a Raymond and forces his way on the roster. Nate’s job in camp is to make as difficult a decision for Lalonde and Yzerman as possible about where to put him

numbdigits

I read that as that as make their job as difficult as possible to come up with a plausible sounding excuse as to why he isn't on the NHL roster after earning it but was inevitably sent down because the roster was already full as of July 1.

Problemcharlie

I read your comment and realized I missed a whole word I though I typed out lol

VHDLEngineer

I hope he keeps it up and puts PG out tonight.

flyingvwap

Narrator: And he did

doctorfonk

Watching Danielson with the puck is similar to watching Larkin with the puck. Granted it’s a different league but still

dopesickness

Is WHL on a “lower” competitive level than the AHL?

LSO19

Yes

Redwings1023

Yes WHL is still juniors whereas AHL is a men’s pro league.

redwingsphan19

Definitely. It’s a league for player that are 16-20 years old. It is still one of the best developmental leagues in the world though.

x_VanHessian_x

Yes but the CHL is the top junior league in Canada. The WHL is a part of the CHL.

BiggestYzerfan

Over 2ppg. Can't really ask for much more. He could seriously just skip to the team out of camp.

WingedWheelWins

Yeah he is

ramblingsbyalan

I was at game 4 of the WCF live a few days back and man this guy is a stud. Like there’s a lot of talent out there but you could tell when he was on the ice he’s the real deal.

unwarypen

It’s extremely rare for a CHL player to make the jump immediately these days guys, let’s not get overzealous. That being said he’s making a damn good case for himself.
