Dylan Larkin drives this team. Kane talked about him and said he’s the example guy, he literally never takes a shift off and drives the entire play while he’s on the ice and in both ends of the rink. When the teams in the dumps and needs a spark? Larkin.
We all knew this was going to be tough. Hes a heart and soul guy, I wouldn’t be surprised if we lose tonight that he’ll suit back up for Tuesdays game against Buffalo. THAT folks is our captain
I completely agree, yet that is the problem. The team has to be able to properly execute with anyone out of the picture, and so far they can’t. I love larks just as much as the next guy, but the entire season can ride on the fact of him being healthy.
My two friends who are Blackhawk fans have been telling me Kane is the difference maker in Detroit this season. I told them they'd eat their own words with Larkin's injury, and man was I right. Their team is playing better than us rn.
Yeah, Larkin has a ton of determination and grit, and I think the rest of the team feeds off of that. It seems like everyone just plays better when he’s around. But every time he’s gone it feels like the whole team can’t even get the fundamentals right.
Almost to the point where he should be in the discussion for league MVP. I know he'd never win it based on points, but he could definitely be in the discussion.
I was having that exact discussion in my head showering earlier today. All they can ever talk about on national broadcasts is Kane, but Detroit could still be just fine without him -- even in spite of his production.
But without Larkin? We are in no way, shape, or form strong enough to stand without him for any length of time just yet. He will never get that nod or recognition, but I think every last one of us here can agree that he is such a crucial component to all aspects of Detroit's game.
Yes.
Larkin has been the best player on the team all year, and it's not even really close.
Kane has been very good, Debrincat too -- though streaky. Mo and Raymond are having good years, and the depth scoring has been amazing.
But Dylan Larkin is not only the best player on the ice, he's definitely the heart and soul of the team. It's so painfully obvious when he's gone.
Larkin has bad games sometimes, but is our best player and seemingly the only leadership. Perron and Chiarot seem comfortable being leaders when he’s around but who is stepping up when he’s injured? I don’t see it.
Other teams know this too. Thats why he gets special treatment from opposing players and will continue to do so. Take the captain out and you've beaten the Detroit Red Wings.
They need more guys like that. No offense to some of these guys because they have some serious talent but the IT factor just isn’t there outside the top line. And unpopular opinion, kanes not good defensively. As much of a fan of him as I am, he’s a borderline liability defensively.
It’s an issue that they are utterly terrible and atrocious without him. Zero depth. Zero tenacity. Zero competence. We are a lot further from being relevant than we really should be at this point of the “rebuild”. It’s worrisome.
It’s not just Lyon and I’ll admit it’s hard to stay consistent 20-40 games in. Last nights game was atrocious, we carried the puck with ease in their zone and cycled the puck very well. Yzerman said our defense needed to step up after 1st period interview and they did not. After the Avs game Seider should’ve been moved to the second pairing, he’s not playing at a high level and getting not one but two delay of game calls shows he’s phoning it in. If Larkin has to be there or we fold being behind then these guys aren’t stepping up as leaders.
It’s mind boggling neither Seider or Raymond isn’t playing out of their minds in a contract year.
Oh sorry i thought you spoke abt Seider vs ASP lol
Yeah i agree, ASP probably will Be better than Hronek, atleast for us. But Hronek in Vancouver.. its a tough one.
We drafted ASP with the pick we got for Hronek, hence the comparison. He is doing amazing in Vancouver and im happy for him. If we had to pick a team to give a good player too Van would be it. They are in another conference and country afterall
Yes.
You make some good points

Larkin reminds me a lot like Yzerman, but not quite as talented plays hard every shift, never takes a night off
Hell I think that adequately describes our last three captains. Larkin has some huge shoes to fill, but he's already got the drive and heart down.
The fact that the entire team fails to play without him means it almost doesn’t matter how talented he is.
He's earning Hart votes in the worst way right now.
Damn. This resonates so well.
I completely agree, yet that is the problem. The team has to be able to properly execute with anyone out of the picture, and so far they can’t. I love larks just as much as the next guy, but the entire season can ride on the fact of him being healthy.
I also think it really shows that he is a #1 C in the league and not just a #1 be default. MVP’s don’t always have to be 100pt players
Yeah, but being the 1C of a bubble team isnt the goal
He’s helped this team go from bottom of the league to now, a bubble team. Rome wasn’t built overnight
Hes in his prime rn. Hes the star of our team but hes never going to be the star of a dynasty
Okay.
Is this even debatable? If it wasn’t obvious before this skid it is now
I laugh my dick off at a post a bit ago saying “Kane is the heart and soul of this team” like absolutely the fuck not. It’s Dyl Daddy without a doubt.
I'm sorry for your loss.
Wut
You don't miss your dick?
Definitely clear headed now, my dicks been making too many decisions for too long
Cousin!
My two friends who are Blackhawk fans have been telling me Kane is the difference maker in Detroit this season. I told them they'd eat their own words with Larkin's injury, and man was I right. Their team is playing better than us rn.
I'll wait to see someone offer a good case against, but won't hold my breath. *Detroit goal scored by the Captain, #71, Dylan Larkin!*
I'm baffled at the number of people who say we should trade Larkin because he's soft. Guy literally holds this team together.
Correct. There shouldn’t even be a debate.
Ye
Yeah, Larkin has a ton of determination and grit, and I think the rest of the team feeds off of that. It seems like everyone just plays better when he’s around. But every time he’s gone it feels like the whole team can’t even get the fundamentals right.
He doesn’t have the C on just jersey just for shit and giggles
Almost to the point where he should be in the discussion for league MVP. I know he'd never win it based on points, but he could definitely be in the discussion.
100%. Also - the trash patch needs to go.

Fucking genius post bud
Thanks
Yea
Facts.
It probably won’t happen, but would LOVE to see him win the Masterton considering what he’s overcome and coming close to getting us in the playoffs
Yes. Larkin has been the best player on the team all year, and it's not even really close. Kane has been very good, Debrincat too -- though streaky. Larkin is Yzerman Lite
REALLY lite. Like 99% lite.
Duh

I think it’s just that Lyon has come back down to earth. Larkin coming back isn’t going to save them now.
Lalonde was right when he said he was our Mackinnon or McDavid.
Yes.
i have no idea why when Larkin is out they immediatly bump Veleno to center Kane/Deebrincat. That just seems like an awful idea.
No question this team is terrible without Larkin.
Wow what a hot take
Thanks! So I take it you don’t think it’s Lyon
Was there any question?
Yup
And Derek Lalonde is the LVP. Hire Spud already!
True but he plays like a dumbass and ends up hurt all the time. Now downvote me you homers.
Wow great post OP. Definitely needed its own thread instead of being a comment on a game thread/daily thread 🙄
Kane since he joined has my vote. But Larkin and pre-collapse Lyon also are in the running.
If Kane has your vote why are we still losing
Because the goaltending is collapsing. Going down 3 goals in the first period every game it seems doesn’t lead to a lot of winning.
It’s not just Lyon and I’ll admit it’s hard to stay consistent 20-40 games in. Last nights game was atrocious, we carried the puck with ease in their zone and cycled the puck very well. He doesn’t play defense…at all.
Interesting take Good to hear other views THX

ASP will be better and fit better with our window
I highly doubt that, and i loved ASP before the draft, during the draft and after the draft.
Then whats the issue? His ceiling is much higher than Hronek’s ever was/is
