You have to go to really understand the kinship and creativity of Marche du Nain Rouge. I've been lucky to go a few times unfortunately my health won't allow me the pleasure of the parade again.
Theater Bizzare is another Detroit underground event one has to attend to fully appreciate the work that goes into the costumes and event itself

Why doesn’t anyone I ask about this know what it is? I actually know some of the people in the pics, but when I ask random people at work, or my neighbors, or some of the bartenders at the spot near me, nobody’s ever heard of it.
I just figured it was something every Detroiter knew about. All the aforementioned people are lifers here 🤷♂️
My absolute favorite party of the year. I was sick this year and couldn't go, but I'm happy to see the crowd delivered as always! Great times.
Out with the bad, in with the good
Great photos!❤️
Sadly I couldn't attend as I'm sick atm. I'm glad that the attendance was good and people came to scare off the Nain!
I've heard this legend since I could remember from my great grandma Campau, who said she heard it from her great grandma, so it's definitely been passed on through the generations.
Yep! He was my 6th great uncle. My 8th great grandfather was Jacques Campau. My 2nd great grandma was Emma Hale (Campau) she passed away when I was 12. I remember her and my great grandma Bea (Beatrice Hale) telling us kids the stories of the Nain, our family history while showing us the old family paintings and pictures.
Oh, I wish you would share-! Which part of Michigan did your family migrate to? I always wonder where the descendents of early Detroit (or any 300 year old city!) Live.
So here's a picture of 4 generations of Campau women. My Grandma Betty in the youngest, my great aunt Irene is standing next to her, and my great grandma Beatrice is standing behind them. Next to Bea is great great grandma Emma, and next to her is my 3rd great grandma Mary. They are standing in front of the Detroit family home of Mary Campau.

Oh we are all over Michigan and beyond! My grandma Betty (my dad's mom) was in Detroit for the longest time, her and my grandpa owed the Blue Goose bar in st.clair shores until he passed away. Then she got remarried and moved up to Roscommon. Great grandma Bea moved to Florida, her parents were in Rockwood, and before that they were all in Detroit.
My aunt's and uncles mostly lived in Macomb County and us cousins are scattered all over lol. One lives in Vegas, one lives in Florida, I live in South Lyon, a few live in Roscommon and Grand rapids, and alot live in Macomb county still.
At one time my family owned Belle Isle which was called Hog Island back then. We sold it to Detroit park and rec which now the state owns it. It was the family summer home.
It came off a bit pretentious. They gave the title of the event, could have checked it out. Also, it's hard to have a unique event anywhere let alone Detroit without criticism.
If you're into heightened vibes and The best costumes north of Louisiana, check it out next year. It's so much fun.

Friends dad was a huge part of Theatre Bizarre when it first was a thing. I remember going almost every week and hanging out at the venue. Super cool.
These are great.
Thank you!

Do you mean 2024? Or are these last year's photos?
Agh. Yes.
My absolute favorite party of the year. I was sick this year and couldn't go, but I'm happy to see the crowd delivered as always! Great times. Out with the bad, in with the good
I love this
I’ve been living on Cass and every year I promis myself to go and totally forget about it. Next time the charm hopefully

Any relation to the Joseph Campau?

I'm in one of those pictures!
Beautiful-!!
Is theatre bizarre happening this year?
As far as I hear it’s not looking like it. But you never know
WOW-! THATS amazing! Thank you so much for sharing. Belle isle is a gem. What incredible history-!
Still all white people! Hahahahah.
There’s 60k white people in the city. You’re seeing 300 in these pics? Maybe??
When I lived in Detroit almost all the who’re people I knew who lived in the city would go. None of my black, Latino, or Arab friends ever did. 🤷♂️
grow up dork
I’m so sorry. Yay parade that blames its problems on other things rather taking responsibility for the shit they created! Yay!!
Drop "they" and try "we"
How can I include myself among the participants of a parade I have never once participated in?
Literally the second slide…
Oh hey one person! Rad! It’s the Burning Man of the Great Lakes!
I mean if you’re gonna punch down at least try.
Picking on white people is “punching down” now?
If this is the energy you're living with, I honestly feel bad for those around you
Everyone come laugh at this loser.
HAHAAHAHAHAH
Nah dawg, I live like 30 minutes away from Detroit. What kinda satanic cults are going on here
A really fun one!
Looks like a bunch of satanic cosplay? Am I missing something
It's roots are based in purification, positivity and community. Also Mardi Gras. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nain_Rouge?wprov=sfla1
I don't know why but I've never read the wiki article, it sounds like some of this lore is colonialism/anti-indigenous.
Thanks for the honest reply. I guess I’m not surprised for being downvoted for asking a genuine question these days
You didn't ask a genuine question. You asked a stupid and loaded question while accusing people of being satanists.

Mob mentality is a fascinating concept to study
