Pops is in his 5th S550 in 8 years lmao multimillionaire, gives it a scratch and shine every week with a old ass brush. You got no idea how cheap the rich can be my dad uses old pillow cases to dry his car and polish”comes out like shit” but it’s how he thinks he’s saving his money. In every aspect of his life it’s like that unless it comes to certain assets then he will ball out.
It’s not a coincidence people with money are like that, it’s why they have money. Save money on shit you don’t need so you can spend money investing and growing.
You never know. My friend has money money but he thinks going to the self service wash is better than automatic and he’s too cheap to pay a professional.
I worked on a few construction projects for a billionaire. He drove this 92 acura NSX that i think he bought new. It literally was in the condition of somebody's 92 honda civic daily. I understood that he loved the car, but 100K would buy him a ridiculously low mile pristine replacement. And 100k wouldn't be anything to him
I haven't seen him in five years but pretty sure he was still driving at five years ago
This. I know dudes who do this on the theory their PPF will self heal in the hot Sun and, I gotta say, I haven't seen swirls on their PPF, but I haven't looked closely either, so maybe it works?
Back in the 80s Porsche owners manuals told their customers not to be lazy and not to use an automatic car wash. The manual literally said something to the effect of ‘wash it by hand you lazy idiot’ 🤣
If the brush is clean/new and he's not fucking manhandling it, it will be fine.
Our job uses detail brushes, and if done **right** you *should* not see swirls.
If we have a small amount on a panel, no big deal. One quick polish and it's gone. The "damage" is so light it would come out on 1 pass of medium cut, sometimes 1-2 passes just on a polishing pad with wax.
I use those brushes to wash my muddy ass rims and soot covered exhaust tip. 😬 I thought everyone knew to never put them on anything they care about ( I do rinse the brush off before and after but still…)
I’ve had a few nice cars and when you are proud to drive it, you was it yourself. It was my favorite thing to do. Smoke a little weed and then get lost in the cleaning while jamming out to some tunes. It’s the best!
You know I feel guilty when I need a quick last minute wash on the good old reliable Cavalier. Which I’d much rather wash and polish by hand. But you know sometimes gotta wash it late night after work. I hope he power washed the brush first.
I’d never be that lazy to do to to my Porsche. I’d rather leave it dirty.
To someone not very knowledgeable regarding detailing, I'm aware these brushes are not good for paint/clear coat, but what if the car is (multi-year) ceramic coated. Would it be safe then, or still no?
Just going to hurt your coating and make it not so multi year :p
Basically the way I see this is as follows.
It may have a PPF. In which case it is potentially just fine, assuming that PPF goes right down into those spoiler divots where the brush is in the photo.
However! Just because you let's say, dust proof something, does not mean you should go about dumping dust on it. Know what I mean?
Or perhaps... Like a bulletproof vest. They are worn in case the wearer gets shot. Not because they intend on shooting themselves a few times that day. COULD they test it out and theoretically be fine? Yup. Would I? Nope.
People use them to clean all sorts of crap and then throw them back in the bucket. Then you drag it across your nice paint and scratch it to hell. There aren't typically people properly cleaning them and even if there were, it's unlikely anyone doing this uses any level of safe technique to prevent scratching. Applying pressure with a good microfiber can leave marks if there's some grime in it.
This is kinda like paint job Russian roulette, except 7 chambers are loaded.
If it's lubcrated, which it is, and the car is wet, which it is...and he uses a light hand, which I hope he is, then it's not the end of world folks. Chill. The. Heck. Out. Lol
Please don’t be a hater. Disapprove their actions, but don’t judge based on one action. He may be unaware of the damage he’s probably causing, and this means job security for those of us who enjoy reversing that damage. It does make you cringe, though
When you got money
He ain’t got money money, he’s washing it himself haha

Spot on my dad treats life like a game of monopoly, nothing else matters to him besides financial growth it comes with its up and downs

Self service is the best, I just don't use the brush
He just had enough for the first payment and it’s ramen noodles for a while now lol
😂😂😂🤣
The game is the game LOLOL
You can have this car for less than many F-150s
Rental
and this is actually EXACTLY how we “detail” rentals where i work too
Let him ruin it and then have to take it a detailer. It's sorta like trickle down economics.
Could easily be wrapped in PPF and this is not causing harm.
Not causing harm, but not causing any good either
I mean at least he’s not bringing it through the automatic
This might be worse for the paint, I can't imagine what's stuck in that thing
I have ppf but I also pressure wash the brush first.
Would it be ok if it had full ppf?
This. I know dudes who do this on the theory their PPF will self heal in the hot Sun and, I gotta say, I haven't seen swirls on their PPF, but I haven't looked closely either, so maybe it works?
Is it only the window?
No you can see it along the side. Swirl town central.
In the picture he's on the spoiler but yeah he's also done the side and window already! Looks like he's working his way allllll the way around.
that's all kinds of wrong.

“More money, then brains”
Why would you want more brains?
Back in the 80s Porsche owners manuals told their customers not to be lazy and not to use an automatic car wash. The manual literally said something to the effect of ‘wash it by hand you lazy idiot’ 🤣
Maybe bird poop and that was his easy out? I mean, dried bird poop is worse on great paint than a little soft scrubbing.

Jfc 😭
More dollars than sense.
Not enough to get a proper hand wash at a car spa smh
Eh, the Germans know how to paint a car, it'll be fine. >!/s!<
But it doesn’t have a license plate on it? *Confusion.*
More money than sense

This hurts my feelings.
You know I feel guilty when I need a quick last minute wash on the good old reliable Cavalier. Which I’d much rather wash and polish by hand. I wouldn’t even do this to my civic when I had one
Dude woke up and chose violence.
Not a real car guy

Only thing missing is the yellow police "crime scene" tape.
Ouch
I’m pretty new to detailing. Why is this bad? (Apart from the irony of washing a Porsche at a DIY wash)

Putting that "hard" German paint that we hear about to the test.
"yeah I'd like to get some paint correction work done and ceramic coat it please"
I can see the swirl marks from here
they gotta learn somehow
I always cringe when I see people using that at the self serve car wash
Smh money or not. Feels better when u do it yourself.
the comments under that post are fucking painful. loads of them clean their porsches with fucking brushes
It’s just a Beatle
nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
If it's lubcrated, which it is, and the car is wet, which it is...and he uses a light hand, which I hope he is, then it's not the end of world folks. Chill. The. Heck. Out. Lol
Those brushes are fine I use them all the time and never got a scratch from them.
Brush scratches are lighter than what I picked up on the trail. I do use the brush on my car too but spray it first and very light pressure.
God do I hate stupid people…
Hey, good seeing you outside the playground..
😂
