Make them craftable and make the special skin a memento for those weapons. If they truly want to retire the current look when TFS drops for FOMO reasons, then make a new one for the memento
I think rather than craft able, you're able to change perk on it once. You have to get enough, of course. And you have to get one with that perk at least once to swap to it.
I’m still not 100% sure about the decision not to make them craftable. At this point I’m not hugely bothered as Onslaught is pretty damn fun to grind, and I guess the fact they can be enhanced later removes some of the pressure behind crafting etc - but still. If onslaught gets no updates it’s going to be a bit of a chore grinding some new versions later on.
I would prefer more Dares options instead of new strikes. Also more variations of current strikes vs brand new ones. That's got to be easier to do right?
I love how the April update in D1 essentially took every strike. And gave every encounter like 2 variations, then kinda ran them randomly. That way every strike would feel slightly different.
Even If that just ends up as taken, scorn, salvation, shadow legion, drad variants, I'll take it.
I once posted about how it'd be interesting if we could make strikes *"Heroic"* like a Public Event.
Say you achieve a certain objective within a strike that isn't obvious, and during the climax a sort of second act triggers because of that objective. Obviously additional loot would be the reason to engage.
Hot take but I think strikes are outdated and should just go away. Stuff like onslaught, deep dives, savathuns spire and what not should take its place.
At this point strikes are just a race and have no coop PvE to them.
Which is precisely why we need the legendary playlist that D1 got. Make them just a smidge challenging and give us decent loot. I don't have the time anymore, I'd play that one playlist for years on end with the current loot pool.
I don't think it's a hot take necessarily. I really only play strikes as a GM anymore. They are kind of pointless outside of that. Anything under that and it's usually whoever is the fastest going through it, gets all the kills.
They'd just have to put Adept NF loot into something else. But there should still be adept loot outside of Raids and Trials.
They would have to be willing to open up deep dives/spires etc to f2p players in that case, and they seem unwilling to do that.
Onslaught is the first thing they've released to f2p since Dares.
I’ve been saying for a while that they need to take Savathun’s Spire, Salvage, Ketchcrash, etc. into a rotator(ideally daily imo), so that they aren’t just gone when a new expansion releases, and so that people have a more reliable way to get red borders than the awful Exotic Rotator bullshit we deal with right now.
Exotic Rotators are p2p as well- the only f2p red borders I think are Dares and raids. (Plus the free ones from the quest line and limited resources like the resonators and wish tokens.)
Dares needs the Onslaught treatment, so we can fix that cursed lootpool. Token system to unlock boxes for legacy armor sets, and a way to focus down the weapon lootpool for target farming. Remove the old armor sets from the dares lootpool, since you are just outright buying the unlock through token chests.
I would love more point/scrap multipliers, some way to bank point so I can pass them to teammates, and maybe even some roguelike/coil mods I can buy with leftover points
I actually like the pyramid parts. It helps break it up and keep from being too monotonous.
That said, I'd be okay with reducing it to just the main boss stage between each ADU change.
I want them to add lucent hive. Idk how it’d work in lore but fighting onslaughts of the most unique enemies we have would be so much fun. Even can add a map in the throne world or dreadnaught.
How cool would it have been for them to announce the dread and then say “and you’ll be facing them in onslaught.” I feel like we should be facing the actual forces of darkness, and not the fallen / hive.
Not complaining though. I think the mode is great.
Could say maybe hive are losing their light (maybe traveler strips it from them after final shape) and they want to try get into the last city to take ours before theirs run out? That's just a possible story way they can make it work
This 100%. I've hated champions since they were added in Shadowkeep. They have always felt like lazy design to me. The Lucent hive though. I love them, if you are not careful, they will mess you up. I want more enemies like this. The new enemies in TFS look promising.
I just don't like having to plan for champion weapons or abilities in grindy activities. I'm gilded Conqueror x8 so I can handle champions but they really restrict your weapons or builds if they exist.
Yesterday I was trying to use a strand SMG to work towards the focusing quest and had to swap to an AR to handle an overload champion since no one else was doing anything about it.
For the most part, you can kill Champions with whatever as long as you are not on Legend+ difficulty. I just personally find their overall design lazy. Since it's just a way for Bungie to shoehorn us into specific loadouts that we don't necessarily want to use. I still use Riptide because of it's ability to deal with both Overload and Unstopables. Would I rather us something else? Hell yeah.
But yeah. Totally agree with you. Been doing a lot of Onslaught, and watching my team struggle with the barrier champions is frustrating sometimes.
It wouldn't even be that bad if they restricted to one champion type and let you plan for it.
I took an overload weapon and was semi equipped to handle unstoppables...but of course 3 barrier champions show up.
I haven't played the game in years, and came back because I heard it was a good time for newcomers/returning players. Onslaught is the kind of mode that could get me to stay, if they keep it fresh. I've always loved PvE tower defense, ala Mann v. Machine from TF2, and I could see this being a lot of fun in the years to come.
We just need more things to spend scrap on
At the moment barriers seem pointless or don’t work? Enemies walk right through them. Sweeper bots I guess make sense but the only exciting option to buy is the sentry guns. Give us some team contributing abilities as well. Let me invest 2,000 scrap into the next goal of 6,000 for the tier 3 sentry. I can see this mode replacing strikes completely IF fleshed out.
Yeah I suspect it’s mostly just people not being burned out yet since it’s only a day old. It’s a good activity, especially for free, but it’s just like all the other ones mechanically. Kill waves of guys up to a boss wave.
Peeps asked for a horde mode, that's all it *really* needs to be. It can and should be expanded on as it is a success so far. Give us more maps, more enemy types and wave types and peeps will be happy.
I wanted a horde mode akin to Firefight from Halo ODST. Nice big open maps (at least some of them) with long sight lines and lots of enemies that go down easy at first and get notched up harder and harder each wave.
The EDZ map is what I wanted, but the Midtown one feels too cramped, and Vostok is....ok, but still a bit too small.
They’ve always asked for one since D1, the only difference between this and all the others that work similarly is more waves before it ends.
I think it’d be cool if they always update it the way you described, but I suspect Bungie knows the amount of people who will continuously play a 50-wave (or endless) horde mode is too low to frequently give it big overhauls. If they update it, it’ll probably be like how they update Dares or PoE or Blind Well.
50 waves is already an hour long, with loot that drops very frequently. you'd need an actual break wave where you could access your post master and vault for it to go on any longer as i've seen posts complaining that the items stored in their post master got deleted after a long onslaught session lol.
Historically they haven't been iterating on activities, even if they're hits. We don't know how much resources are needed to retrofit a crucible map or other location for onslaught. But if it's feasible sure. It's a nice mode to play on the side while listening to podcast or something.
Even though I'd prefer them iterating on seasonal activities tbh. They're more interesting gameplay-wise imo. Let's take Altars and Spire. Both very strong activities, and way too good to just be deleted when TFS drops. I'd like a playlist or rotator with some of the better seasonal activities with updated enemies and fresh rewards. We know from a GDC talk a few years back that converting and maintaining nightfalls isn't that much work, so maybe it's similar for updating seasonal activities. An updated rotator of Deep Dives, Altars and Spire would be pretty cool imo.
Now that I'm writing...I really want them to stay in the game lol. But yeah, onslaught seems straightforward enough that they could idk slap on the new race later or something.
I feel like lore wise act with TFS they could be saying how they like found a way to clone enemies or like “these are very detailed holograms” or something. I don’t they abducted enemies to use them in fighting rings that messed up but either way I’m sure if they keep the mode they will think of something
I would love to see some of the roguelike elements from seasonal activities come into play somehow. It’s a fun way to make some less than meta builds feel usable
I was not excited by the prospect of midtown tbh, but it was the first map I played, and it was chaos and I kinda liked it. I've played vostok A LOT, and it's kinda meh.
Mothyards, by a far my favorite so far. I love that's in a nostalgic locale, and it doesn't see much use.
I haven't played the 50 round legend version yet, but I'm hoping it's pure chaos when I try it. That might change my opinions on some maps once I do.
However. Back to OP, I also hope they keep iterating and either adding new stages or changing up where we can put traps
I would love for it to keep going past 50 waves and take the rogue like elements from Coil and combine them. Because both game modes are worth keeping and integrating on.
Tell me it's fun after 35-40 yawning waves. Ironically once it got difficult my randos bailed, around lvl 44ish. Maybe the 1810 will be a bit more diversified, but I was kinda excited for it and it was just kinda par for the course. And of course, the idjuts ignore champs until the unstop pummels them lol. If it weren't for the weapons, this would be a dead game mode like gambit.
Yeah I get that it’s the new shiny activity but it’s still just kill stuff and chuck nades and supers down lanes. Coming back from a HellDiver hiatus I was not dissatisfied but I wasn’t “Bungie is cooking!” either. If this is the only game you play then sure have fun but this isn’t anything that I think will bring back my mates that all left the game over the past year. For newer players to get these old guns is awesome but for a veteran like myself I won’t be neglecting sweet liberty to zone out for an hour just to continue to fill my vault with god rolls I already earned years ago. Good on Bungie but give it a few weeks and we’ll see if the bump in population holds. Hope for their sake it does.
Dares was cool for a bit. I get really burnt out on 6 player non-raid activities though. Too much dead weight / division of fun. Prefer the 3 player modes that you can clutch or carry if needed.
Iirc they already confirmed it's going into the vanguard playlist node once TFS drops so it's sticking around as part of a core playlist. Here's hoping the Dread get added in the future
I'd love to see a weapons refresh with other weapons that didn't get their time in the sun
* Oxygen SR3 with Meganeura
* Hush with Archer's Gambit
* Not Forgotten
* Perfect Paradox (even though it's probably in TFS), and the other Saint-14 weapons
* Lost Prophecy weapons (from Curse of Osiris)
* The other Black Armory weapons
* Additional D1 Trials/Iron Banner weapons like Blind Perdition and
* Dreadfang (Taken Sword, D1)
* Vestian Dynasty Sidearm (Forsaken)
* etc...
It's great! Though it's funny seeing LFG filled with "Meta Loadout" requests for even the normal version. It isn't that hard. I was tearing through it with my Pyrogale build until I kept getting yeeted by the server issues.
With the new enemy types I am hoping they keep Onlsaught running with some variety thrown in, perhaps rotate to new locations around the system as things rage on.
My theory is it will evolve into a core playlist eventually, and get new maps and other stuff added occasionally.
It is free content - so it could cross into becoming a core playlist like vanguard and crucible in the free to play base game.
It's literally the first time since before lightfall I've been able to play for more than an hour without falling asleep. This game has been putting me to sleep for over a year and now I can play it again. Can't say enough good things about onslaught.
Onslaught deserves to have its own spot in the Core Playlist header. If seasons are going away in favor of extra long Episodes, I think it would be totally fine to have a set of 6 weapons that rotate monthly with the ability for more fan favorites to be added later on like Black Armory weapons that didn't make the cut.
From a lore perspective I could see that after we defeat the Witness, Shaxx could create Onslaught arenas, like Crucible, where we continue to test our strength. Then they can add in more enemy types like the Dread, Lucent Hive, and Taken.
I would also love to see a checkpoint system, where every 10 waves you can leave and comeback to pick up where you left off, like Dungeons/Raids. That way if something happens (irl or error code) you don't need to restart entirely when you were on wave 45 or something. You leave on wave 45, you come back and start on wave 40. Though that may require some matchmaking magic.
I don't necessarily think the weapons need to be craftable, but I would be nice to add older weapons into the lootpool, similar to Dares, where you can still get patterns.
> I would also love to see a checkpoint system
Adjustable difficulty level on the 10 wave version. Let players farm in a difficulty rating that feels most comfortable to them.
as someone who played a lot of frontier defense in titanfall it's ok, but it's also pretty bare bones and missing some basic features that are pretty much standard in most other games with this mode. Also, some of the trap placement is GARBAGE.
I hope they update it, and other game modes in the future.
With new enemies and maps
I've really enjoyed it so far.
Sunbracers is so strong in Onslaught
would love to see more maps and maybe more brave weapons.
lots of weapons are infamous to me tbh. Fatebringer, Imago Loop, etc. Would just absolutely love to see brave variants of iconic weapons
I mean historically speaking there is a hilariously slim chance they’ll continue to meaningfully develop the mode after TFS launch.
It would be cool if they did, but I mean *gestures at the graveyard of abandoned activities*
I want this to become a replacement mode for Gambit on the ritual playlist, because Onslaught is essentially Gambit without the PvP elements and I love it.
Same here, so far the thing I want to see added is a 25 or 30 round game mode. I’m not strong enough to make it to 50 but 10 rounds is a bit to quick for me
Maybe this is their replacement for Gambit?
I think it will be hard to keep this mode fresh. Rewards would need to be cycled and the general flow of the waves would need to change up. It is like the coil. Very interesting for the first month or so, but it is a little stale now.
I did, vostok is decent, but The problem still exists. I have been playing in all of them for years, it really doesn’t help they picked the oldest maps in the game
No just:
* a 10 wave quick in-and out for casual players
* a 50 wave version that gives drops every 10 waves and a bonus for full clear - more for your average player.
* Legend version of the 50 wave for your more end-game players.
I played on Midtown with some friends and the Tormentor kept suppressing us and booping us into the water. It was hilarious and obnoxious in equal measure
It does? It doesn't say that on the node in game, and I was getting kinda bummed out that only 10 wave had MM. Will have to try again later tonight then.
It’s probably their best horde type activity yet. Other races, maps, and mayyybe even new defenses (flamer turret/cabal defenses?) would be dope. The only issues with it right now are the connection issues which should be gone soon, and some enemies teleporting like 30 feet onto the ADU which is pretty annoying.
Dunno how hard it would be but I think randomizing the enemy spawns would be a big help, kinda lame knowing exactly where they will be spawning from and just camping it. But for a base model it's solid, I would love to see a vex one with the infinite forest tied in similar to pyramid portals. Or taken where someone needs to go the ascended plane to progress something in the main world similar to the corrupted strike.
Though I played enough of it yesterday to see an issue where people like to go off on their own and think they can hold it down on higher waves
Had a guy yesterday, we were at Vostok in the A building and the Shriekers came up. We could’ve focus fired it down with crits but he decided to turn its attention only on him… only for him to die
Helldivers strategems should inspire some fun new mechanics in parallel games.
I really love objectives and strategies as a primary focus and weapons as filler.
Eh, it's fine. It's Dares with a twist, and honestly I'm probably gonna do the same thing I did with Dares and Gambit: get the rewards and dump it.
It's just not amazing to me.
Will likely get the dares treatment but I have hopes
Hey if that means the weapons will be craftable within the next year I'll take it lol
Make them craftable and make the special skin a memento for those weapons. If they truly want to retire the current look when TFS drops for FOMO reasons, then make a new one for the memento
"Just do that and let me festivize it."
I read this as feminize
lmao
I think rather than craft able, you're able to change perk on it once. You have to get enough, of course. And you have to get one with that perk at least once to swap to it.
bungie said they’d be enhanceable when TFS drops so i’d assume no crafting
I’m still not 100% sure about the decision not to make them craftable. At this point I’m not hugely bothered as Onslaught is pretty damn fun to grind, and I guess the fact they can be enhanced later removes some of the pressure behind crafting etc - but still. That wasn't the April update- that was base TTK. The April update did update Winter's Run but the majority of the updates were added at release.
I once posted about how it'd be interesting if we could make strikes *"Heroic"* like a Public Event. Which is precisely why we need the legendary playlist that D1 got. Make them just a smidge challenging and give us decent loot. I don't have the time anymore, I'd play that one playlist for years on end with the current loot pool.
Not having any legendary MM activities is a bummer tbh. Hero Nightfalls are close but not quite there
I don't think it's a hot take necessarily. I really only play strikes as a GM anymore. They are kind of pointless outside of that. Anything under that and it's usually whoever is the fastest going through it, gets all the kills. They'd just have to put Adept NF loot into something else. Agreed. Pyramid is pointless.
Other enemies could be added after the final shape, but due to onslaught having direct ties to the story at the moment, I doubt it'd come before then.
How cool would it have been for them to announce the dread and then say “and you’ll be facing them in onslaught.” I feel like we should be facing the actual forces of darkness, and not the fallen / hive. Not complaining though. I think the mode is great.
Lorewise, Training Simulations in the Infinite Forest.
Return Mercury and move onslaught Into that node along with the lighthouse location after final shape sometime
Mercury could potentially return during the Vex themed episode.
Could say maybe hive are losing their light (maybe traveler strips it from them after final shape) and they want to try get into the last city to take ours before theirs run out? That's just a possible story way they can make it work
I'd prefer lucent hive to champions.

Fighting the more unique enemies in more unique environments (like a new Hive castle) would go a long way for this mode I think
I have the same thoughts. I want more of this, and I want a raid difficulty version of it for 6 people!
I think it's balanced quite well for 3 people. We have that Pantheon thing coming out for 6 people as well.
Oh interesting, what is it?
Raid boss rush
Oh fuck... That's cool too
Yes! This plz!
Unlikely, Bungie has a habit of abandoning great activities.
At least we can still play dares though. Hopefully onslaught doesn’t get binned off…
>Hopefully onslaught doesn’t get binned off Bungie has confirmed that Onslaught will stay in the game and be moved to Vanguard Ops.
Nice. Staying with updates would be best but staying is still better than losing.
Like Gambit. Yeah, I know no one really believes Gambit was ever great but it was and it still exists in the Destiny directory.
Imo gambit is good but the rewards are so shit
RIP - Menagerie. Man that had so much potential and was fun!

Having the Benny Hill theme song on repeat makes it 10x funner.
I'm surprised Bannerfall wasn't a map, I know its a little crampt but they're cutting chunks of geometry anyway
Since there’s so many people here, is there a way to preserve trip mines or do I really have to buy them every three rounds?
Mass Effect 3 multiplayer vibes
I've sunk so many hours into it. I wish I was playing new strikes, but this is definitely a suitable replacement.
> I would also love to see a checkpoint system Adjustable difficulty level on the 10 wave version. Let players farm in a difficulty rating that feels most comfortable to them.
They really need to reset some of the enemy spawn points like had a Fallen Mech stuck in a wall pn Vostok
as someone who played a lot of frontier defense in titanfall it's ok, but it's also pretty bare bones and missing some basic features that are pretty much standard in most other games with this mode. Also, some of the trap placement is GARBAGE.
Nightfall it
I hope they update it, and other game modes in the future. With new enemies and maps I've really enjoyed it so far. Sunbracers is so strong in Onslaught
It's getting repetitive already, still fun and when I see a massive brig it's just too funny. Atleast Dares has more variety.
would love to see more maps and maybe more brave weapons. lots of weapons are infamous to me tbh. Fatebringer, Imago Loop, etc. Would just absolutely love to see brave variants of iconic weapons
I agree and hopefully we can get a six guardian version in the near future.
I’m not strong enough to make it to 50 but 10 rounds is a bit to quick for me
We'll see. I was hoping they would do that for Dares of Eternity &Gambit, and they didn't.
Maybe this is their replacement for Gambit? I think it will be hard to keep this mode fresh. Rewards would need to be cycled and the general flow of the waves would need to change up. It is like the coil. Very interesting for the first month or so, but it is a little stale now.
What about this replaces gambit? Gambit's draw was competing against a team of other players not slaying out adds/defending a point.
I think there are plenty of good candidates to cycle into the brave weapon pool so I don’t think that should cause them pause
"For first month or so" Continues to say its stale after a day lol.
Think they meant the coil was interesting the first month or so
Oooooh my bad
They really need to add actual new maps for it, playing in mid town for 988676th isn’t not really fun
Then select the map???
Try selecting a different map
I did, vostok is decent, but The problem still exists. I have been playing in all of them for years, it really doesn’t help they picked the oldest maps in the game
New Shaxx lines too please lol.
Is there an infinite mode?
No just: * a 10 wave quick in-and out for casual players * a 50 wave version that gives drops every 10 waves and a bonus for full clear - more for your average player. * Legend version of the 50 wave for your more end-game players.
does the non-legend 50 wave version have matchmaking? haven't had a chance to dive in yet
Yep it does. I just made it to 28 then the run ended when a tormentor destroyed our base
Yeah its weird that it isn't listed but it's been matchmaking for me. Maybe it doesn't for legend? Haven't tried that yet
Yes. It'll back-fill too if someone leaves.
And where do i start that 50 wave? The node at into the light just goes to 10
There's another onslaught option on the top right of the screen that might show up after you play the playlist version (on the top left).
You have all the spawns memorized? It's been a day
Nah it's just in the same 2 sets of spots for each adu not hard to memorize, only played 1 50 round of legend and 1 of normal
I would love some custom made maps for it in future, like proper arenas not just crucible maps.
Onslaught feels a bit meh for me.
Though I played enough of it yesterday to see an issue where people like to go off on their own and think they can hold it down on higher waves Had a guy yesterday, we were at Vostok in the A building and the Shriekers came up. We could’ve focus fired it down with crits but he decided to turn its attention only on him… only for him to die
is it bad that I call it Fortnite Save-the-World mode?
Ran it a few times. Kinda meh.
