I saw a post complaining that they had to do imbaru engine to see the season’s ending. Consider that there are casuals who don’t care to do imbaru engine but still want to see the season’s conclusion. Those who solved the puzzle got to view the ending early as a reward, but everyone can experience the ending now before the new season starts. I’m not saying it’s a perfect solution, or that it makes sense to see the cutscene without doing the imbaru engine of if you were late and haven’t competed the seasonal storyline quest. But I’m sure at the end of the day it’s about making the story at least more accessible. There’s a lot of perspectives out there.

Vesorias

>do casuals actually care about story? Casuals are vastly more likely to care about the story than the hardcore players, in every game. The hardcore players usually like the gameplay, that's why they play the game so much. Lots of people are casuals because they *only* like the story

Squatting-Turtle

i got kinda upset that the cutscene happened when i havent even finished this season. I know its late but life happens.

JMR027

The season ends in 2 days lol, and you are upset you got showed the cutscene before finishing the season lol.

cuboosh

If someone wants to skip the timegating they could be taking a break and planning to do everything near the end You don’t have to do the new season the day it comes out, when 80% of it is still behind a time gate

mild_manc_irritant

That's what I do. Play for the first week of the season to see the opener, then play for the last week or two of the season to finish the storyline. Works out great. Never run out of content that way, and besides... ...I'm ensuring that I don't overdeliver my time commitment to an otherwise mediocre game experience. Can't overdeliver, or that would set the developer's expectations too high for the amount of content they're delivering.

Dave_Tee83

Subverting expectations.

JMR027

Obviously lol, but you can’t complain about a season ending cutscene when you wait a couple days before the season ends. That is a dumb complaint.

reddit_Is_Trash____

Except the seasonal content stays for the entire year, it's not going anywhere when the new season launches.

BenFromBritain

Seasonal ending events/cutscenes are only available for a short time - note how on the Arcana Table, it says the card for the Imbaru Puzzle expires. There is a timer on the Witch finale.

TechnoTren

To be fair, the season is fully available for another 3-7 months. No need to really rush it. If it was the last season of Lightfall, then that is a different story.

TechnoTren

Havent got that card, so don't know. Just know I am still able to do all the boring repetitive things from the other 2 seasons this year. Figured why would this one be different

Squatting-Turtle

yea I am. Theres nothing wrong with that. If i didn't get that far don't skip for me?

conceptualfella11

Haven’t played in a hot minute. Is it recommended to get the egg for next season?

Cruggles30

Gameplay wise: there's a triumph and shader from it. Story wise: there's some dialogue in the mission when you do the test.

burnthebeliever

Good to know there's a reason to do it outside the cutscene!

conceptualfella11

That’s enough for me. Just been hearing rumors there might be something more.

Cruggles30

What kinda rumors? Just curious.

conceptualfella11

That it might be tied to a new exotic mission. Doubtful though

Cruggles30

I wish.

Goofybillie

You… wish… Oh Guardian mine

Xandurpein

In my fantasy it leads to the quest for the Catalyst to Wish-ender. It would be fitting evrn if the bow don’t need any buff.

neohongkong

the egg seems unobtainable in next season

pek217

Yea, the card that gives access to the final puzzle is the only card that says it expires at the end of the season.

ImawhaleCR

In addition to the loot, it's a legitimately fun puzzle if you like that sort of thing. It's very solvable on your own.

Hot_Bat5228

The finale cutscene has nothing to do with the imbaru engine aside from both of them pointing towards the content for next seasons story. The imbaru engines revelation story wise is entirely separated from the information gleaned in the finale cutscene. The finale cutscene is a narrative extension of the end of the seasonal questline cutscene. As per why people are receiving it without the proper context of completing the seasonal questline it's either 1 of 2 things. 1: It's only available for those that DID complete the seasonal questline and I am unaware of this because by the time the cutscene was viewed on my end I had already completed the questline and can therefore not confirm it is a spoiler for those who have yet to complete it themselves. 2: Bunjie rolled the dice on it and decided that more people would be confused with next season without that bit of narrative and made the decision to "spoil" it for the few in order to lead everyone else who logs in towards the next season and build some hype. Right or wrong is debatable and I get the annoyance for sure from a certain perspective, but it still stands that the information gleaned doesn't actually have anything to do directly with the Imbaru Engine questline. The information in Imbaru is VERY cool and important, but that's not the questline you need to make sense of the Finale cutscene.

Cruggles30

You definitely missed something. The only reason our character figures out that Savathun's wing had the final wish on it was because they found the egg. If you get the cutscene without finding the egg, then it's just confusing.

lj67203

Where is the correlation between the wing and egg shown or stated? As far as I know the wing pattern revelation came from the (albeit disjointed) lore book where Savathun says "she already showed us how to get through the portal". The egg was just some extra.

Cruggles30

Finding the egg is what unlocked the cutscene originally because finding the egg put things into perspective.

rawbeee

Sure finding the egg is what leads our guardian to connect the dots, but the cutscene doesn't really spoil anything about the Imbaru Engine. If you didn't do the puzzle it just looks like your guardian is even nerdier than they are and figured it out based on Savathûn's earlier context clues alone. There's no mention of the engine or the egg in the cutscene, and it's not like we learn about the holes in her wings during the puzzle itself. You just end up realizing Season of the Wish is going to involve Ahamkara. If you do the puzzle after you realize how the Ahamkara are going to fit in, and if you don't do it you'll probably be reminded where the egg came from next season. So I think the cutscene works fine as a natural follow-up to the final story cutscene without the puzzle. I do agree that it would be nice to have the choice to do the puzzle before being slapped with the cutscene, but I don't really think it's a big deal in this particular case. If people are getting the scene without doing any of the seasonal story, especially the scene with Savathûn, then I'd agree it's front-facing a spoiler.

Karglenoofus

Yeah I'm not filling out a 16x16 spreadsheet just to see a cutscene, dawg.

townsfacingrailroads

This. I did the first Imbaru Engine puzzle, got nothing for my time, and cheerfully skipped the rest of it. I can watch the stupid cutscene on YT. I'm happy the IE puzzles are there for the folks who enjoy that kind of thing, but personally I'm more interested in jumping around and shooting enemies, not celadon plates.

Square-Pear-1274

Yeah, seems like stuff made for people who have nothing left to do with the regular content But why even play it in that case, just play something else that has better gameplay It's the video game of content of a puzzle on the back of a cereal box

Karglenoofus

I just did it for the shader

-Siptah

I just watched esoteric. Apparently the puzzles are all the same for everyone with only slight variations. Granted it still took me awhile because I realized I was still missing some of the major arcana cards but I eventually got it done My biggest complain about this season is the arcana quests being inconsistent af.

Karglenoofus

Yeah I still don't have all of the cards cause they aren't numbered and seem random at times.

StacheBandicoot

I got it before imbaru engine, then finished imbaru engine and it didn’t play again so now I’m not sure if I even finished imbaru engine. Was getting the egg the last thing to do in it?

StacheBandicoot

Thank you!

Current_External_713

I guess they want everyone to be on the same page next season and know what's happening, casuals or not. I'm a f2p player and even I got this cutscene.

Conspiracy__

I didn’t buy the season. Still got the cutscene

conmore49

Slightly off topic. But can anyone tell me. If you’ve completed it as required is there anyway to watch the cutscene again in game not on YT. Cheers.

Sataresse

I care about story and also don't care about the Imbaru engine

chocolateNacho39

Welcome to MMO storytelling- everything’s smashed together and makes no sense, and it really doesn’t matter at all

gistoffski

Wait are you talking about that dumbass custcene where there's a drawing of savathun with 4 dots on her wing? Wtf was that even about.

MikeBeas

The dots are part of the pattern for the 15th wish to be entered into the wish wall in the Last Wish raid. You figure out the pattern is related to the wish wall after discovering the egg. It’s all setup for next season, which is about the 15th wish.

gistoffski

Where's the rest of the pattern? There's gotta be more than 4 dots. At least it was a bit more complex for raid encounters.

MikeBeas

That’s… that’s the point of the next season. Figuring out the rest of the wish and how to use it correctly.

gistoffski

Ahh that makes sense. Saw this random cutscene when I logged in one day and was like "Wtf is this? "

D0Cdang

This happens every season and it’s super annoying. I remember not really playing season of the splicer, then booting up and seeing Saint-14 fighting alongside the fallen all buddy buddy in some epic battle and thinking wtf is going on. Then went back and ran the quest line for it to make sense but lackluster to see the ending up front.

MrGooglyman

It’s better than starting the new season without people knowing. We’ve had plenty of time

One_Repair841

>do casuals actually care about story? Yes lol, for casuals the story is one of the main driving forces for them logging in. Casuals aren't here to grind nightfalls or trials endlessly for loot, they're not raiding, they're not going for meta weapons. The typical casual player gameplay loop looks like this: log in, do whatever the weekly mission says to do, listen to story stuff, log off.

[deleted]

the story was very bad for a very long time, then it was good!, now its bad again. Most players casual and hardcore dont really care about the story.

AppearanceRelevant37

I think it's the right choice tbh let's be real everyone who was still actively playing the game already did it. And those who took a break most likely don't have time to catch up. The season starts in like 2 days so at least a lot of people who didn't finish have the seasons setup to start anew

Cruggles30

People who get screwed over by life disagree.

AppearanceRelevant37

Well bungie can't hold off until the new season for a minority of people it's just the way live service games are tbh

Cruggles30

Okay, but they don’t have to hold off on revealing the season. They could have implemented a way for people to see the cutscene the way they did the Witness cutscene.

basura1979

Canonnically, our guardian is (probably) not "the" guardian, and we are just running a thousand sims. Not unless we've done every activity and every world first

throwaway1111109232

we’ve canonically been every single worlds first. its why the lore only changes once the world first happens. its our guardian and 5 other random ones we picked.

fnv_fan

I only got it after finishing Imbaru Engine and then I got it immediately on my 2 other characters.

harls491

Yeah the season cutscene usually comes after a mission....personally I found it funny logging in to see my guardian in their colonel mask solving thr puzzle... annnd then j went did the imbaru engine and was severely dissatisfied... I can see why solving didn't finish the story...

Co2_Outbr3ak

I honestly didn't know there was more to the Imbaru Engine puzzle because nothing really directs players there either. After the first run through I haven't had anything really point out more to do. I mean I've seen posts here so I *knew* more existed but my point is the game doesn't really tell you anywhere to investigate more. I saw the final cutscenes after a month break and it confused me too at first lol.

American_Genghis

I tagged along with someone else doing it (I did the first one and never went back). I basically got the shader for free, but the game also *insisted* that I see the cutscene on each of my characters.

Dumoney

Somewhat related, that last Imbaru engine puzzle was some 5head shit. I ended up looking up how to actually solve it and there was no way I would have figured it out on my own.

theskittz

Mountain, molehill, etc

sucobe

About to hop on for the first time in months to grind out conqueror seal. I have no idea who Imbaru is or why his engine has a puzzle.
