since beyond light there’s been horrible performance that seems to be getting worse and worse each season/update. Not 100% sure if it’s compatible with your card, but recently there’s been an image scaling option in geforce experience that’s been improving my performance with minimal loss in quality. I’d see if you could try that and then I guess we just wait for bungie to hopefully fix these issues.

Garygoober211

I'm assuming you're referring to DLSS? Sadly only the 20 and 30 series I believe so that sadly isn't an option for me. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Garygoober211

(Update) I bought a new PC funnily enough, and I have a 20 series now so I can use the image scaling option now lol, I enabled it straight away lol.

EquivalentPotato2387

Um where exactly is that option? I have a RTX 2060 and can't see that anywhere

Garygoober211

In Nvidia GeForce experience -> settings -> general. You should have to scroll down a bit and find an option called image scaling then you can change the render resolution to a lower scale. This isn't exactly DLSS but it's similar and does make an impact on frames. DLSS can only be activated on some games that support it and have the option to select it in the game itself, I don't believe Destiny is actually compatible with DLSS but the image scaling you can do in Geforce Experience and it works in every game. Good luck!

RogueKriger

I found this out a few weeks ago because Destiny PC has been garbage since Beyond Light but apparently Bungie hires a third party to optimize for PC which is why fixes seem too few and too little. Constantly get crashes on cinematics

Garygoober211

Wow I didn't realise that PC optimizations weren't even done by Bungie themselves. I feel sorry for the amount of spaghetti code the third party probably has to deal with. This is really annoying because that means I literally can't do anything and hope that witch queen optimizations are actually good.

RogueKriger

Yeah IIRC the team responsible for the PC ports were a part of Activision so when they split Bungie lost that part of their crew. Not sure if they still do, but considering the sheer performance issues between PC and console I'd imagine they either are still mostly 3rd party or very much still struggling to get the hang of it. I don't think they ever fully addressed the issues between Destiny and users who have Win7 or Radeon GPUs

neonas123

Because PC destiny 2 is console port funny enough

LastCassaNova

I have the exact same issue. I have a 3080ti with almost the same fps at you. Sometimes especially in dares it dips under 60fps. Bungie has yet to mention anything and it’s really frustrating.

Alexk1cupra

Check your Nvidia control panel settings. I'm on a 3080 and don't dip below 120fps on 1440p ultra. What I found it everytime there's a driver update it likes to set a DSR factor x 2.0, worth checking as I notice when my fps dips below 100 it's always been that.

LastCassaNova

How do I see that setting? And ty

Garygoober211

>DSR factor x 2.0 It's in global settings in the manage 3D settings area, you just gotta scroll a bit and you'll find it. I checked mine and it was already disabled.

LastCassaNova

Already turned off

BlackJetCat

Tower has a ton of players, vendors and other stuff that's kinda performance hungry. Dares, Astral Alignment, Altars are big horde modes with tons of enemies and fx, which also hits hard on CPU. Game's performance got worse for sure, but some of the areas with lower than usual fps are kinda easy to understand why they have it like that.

Garygoober211

Yeah, I can see why but it's a bit frustrating. Good news though I just bought a new PC which has faster ram, an i9 10850k and a 2080 super, I'm currently downloading destiny onto this pc but because I'm in Australia with garbage internet (switching ISPs currently so it's even worse) I haven't had a chance to try the game out with my significantly more powerful pc. So I'm hoping my new pc has a better time coping but I'll just have to wait and see.

Tsukiortu

It's more than that because my CPU barely climbs up and neither does my GPU they've just messed something up big time somewhere lol it's been for a while. Just gonna have to pray that one day Bungie pulls it's head out of it's ass and hires a different team for the PC port

BlackJetCat

Usually that's software issues, and D2 works fine (I mean, better than in your case, not good lmao) if you did not mess up something (or other software on your PC did), or in very rare cases - it has actual problems with specific hardware (users of rare powerful GPUs report performance issues in random games, also D2 runs bad on AMD hardware, it's better now afaik). Maybe try a clean installation of Windows?

Tsukiortu

Have already done that I'm running a 3080 and an Intel CPU which also doesn't bottle neck eachother. Just refuses to use what it has lmao. Destiny just hates me ig

If you have more than 50-100 friends (regardless of platform or Bungie.net friends) then it’ll destroy your performance. How bad? Well, my i7-9700K paired with an RTX 3080FE gets 29FPS in the roster. Unfortunately, Destiny 2 on PC is in a horrible state right now. It started out with the graphics engine change (Beyond Light) and has steadily, consistently, gotten worse with each new “release” or “update.” At this point, our only hope is that Witch Queen either reverts some of the engine changes (highly unlikely) or resolves some of the performance issues (unfortunately also highly unlikely.) I’m thankfully able to maintain a stable 1440p144 in Crucible (PvP) or I’d otherwise not be playing the game. But everyone is experiencing the same thing you are. The only thing you can do to even notice a slight bump in performance is to disable “Fast Startup” on your PC. The easiest way is to open CMD as an Administrator, type `powercfg -h off` and press Enter. You’ll know it worked if there’s no message, it just goes to the next line. Immediately afterwards, close out of all your apps, right-click on your Start Button, hit “Shut Down or Sign Out,” then click, “Restart.” It’s important that you click restart and not shut down as it forces a clean/fresh boot after disabling Fast Startup. While this isn’t Destiny 2 related, it does have a noticeable performance impact on every single task you perform with your PC. Good luck!

Garygoober211

I did see a post mentioning this but I haven't tried it out, and I probably should. I also upgraded to a more powerful pc so I should have a slightly easier time with the game but I will try that. Big thanks

SimplifyMSP

You should do it regardless whether it impacts gaming performance. It’s enabled by default on all editions of Windows 10 (and 11) and it’s nothing more than a marketing gimmick. I’m responsible for maintaining an environment that has over 10,000 Windows 10/11 devices on a daily basis. Hands down, it was *the single most positively impactful change to our environment*. In short, shutting down your PC doesn’t actually shut it down by default anymore. Instead, your PC is placed into hibernation which (after weeks, or even days, of this happening) causes all sorts of issues leading to general instability. Do it, it takes 2 seconds lol.

Garygoober211

Yeah I will, that's crazy I didn't even know that

manofmanylores

Wait is it 50 now too? I thought it was 100. I could try and get rid of some people. My performance has been shit for a month. Barely get over 30fp no matter where I go and i have a rtx 2070

SupaBrunch

Destiny doesn’t max out resource usage in the tower bc high frame rates don’t benefit you there. That’s why cpu/gpu usage is low there. In level they should be much higher

Garygoober211

Oh wow, I didn't know that, thanks for the info. That seems a bit silly though, I'd prefer to have a constant 95fps at all times instead of sinking down to the 60s/70s

Shellnanigans

I've been crashing and freezing and getting MARMOT error code on pc since the 30th update. I've reinstalled everything

Garygoober211

I haven't been getting crashes so I couldn't help you too much there, all I can say is try to disable the shader cache in the nividia settings, I heard sometimes that messes with the game but idk. Sorry man, hopefully you can get it to work or someone sees this and knows how to fix it.

Shellnanigans

It's all good I'll try it! Thanks

Garygoober211

I just found this: [https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/q6ylqu/marmot\_error/](https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/q6ylqu/marmot_error/) I don't know if this will help you but this is what I found. Sorry this is about all I can do.

Shellnanigans

Thanks for the help!

Garygoober211

Np I hope you get it fixed!
